Been playing Deus Ex lately. And boy does it still hold up. For a game from what 2000? it hasn't really aged a bit gameplay vise. I mean sure, you can tell its era by certain things such as too many controls or inventory tetris. But it's still very enjoyable and a good experience.

And to think that came out the same year as Daikatana! Truly strange times those were.

I've always liked inventory tetris since I first saw it on a Resident Evil game. I've always been sad that more games don't use it.

Personally I hate all forms of limited inventory. The tetris variety is the most tolerable, but I still hate it. There is simply no good reason to limit how many items a player may carry. The only thing it does is lead to awkward slowdowns in the game as all action pauses whilst the player has to waste time figuring out what to throw away.

You will be happy to learn that STALKER actually has a limited inventory, but it is easily modifiable. After playing it legitimately for a while, I decided to go nuts with it and changed the weight allowance from 60 kg to 2000 kg. I could carry the whole game world with me if I want to.

Although oddly enough I don't mind it terribly in STALKER on account of the fact that there are boxes in each region where you can dump the excess safely and the fact that most loot is actually useless as vendors won't buy damaged guns and repairing them costs so much you can't earn anything selling them afterwards.

- If your drops actually have a money value for sale (like ammo in STALKER or vendor trash in most games).
- If you have lots of unique items and you want one of each.
- If you have lots of consumables that you want to save for later.

I know you can keep it in some secure storage like with the Ecologists, but it's one of those cases where you would rather have it with you than storing it there and the game bugging out and emptying the stash.

I actually have original copies of Contra and Super Mario Bros. They're truly awesome games.

Bar SNES, my NES games are usually from those 9999-in-1 multicarts. Not that I embrace piracy, but piracy in Myanmar is so rampant and cheap games are how I got introduced to the wondrous world of gaming. I now buy my games through Steam, Humble Bundle, or Good Ol' Games (GoG).

Piracy was bad for companies, but in a positive twist, it helped us get access to them because it is just too damn rare to get electronics and video games (we were a tad late with technology). (More trivia: With cheap smartphones on the rise, this is how Myanmar now has one of the larger smartphone userbase - 90% out of the 54 million people).

In the States, it's more difficult to pirate games, so I buy originals or licensed ports.

I do not recall any such option being in STALKER. At least not by a button or something. You could do it manually by clicking and unloading each item one at a time but that's tedious. I'd love to have a "empty all weapons and pick up all but weapons" button.

I play with mods these days, in particular COC and you can buy bags there to set your own stashes up. I usually put one next to each merchant. Although most merchants already have a box next to them that's a safe stash.

As for saving artifacts just save those I act actually use. So Oasis, Compass (x2 if I can get it) and weight savers. Combined with power armor and not picking guns up I don't even need to cheat the weight limit by the time I get to the late game.

I enjoyed it. Almost all my people died and the last few survivors executed me.

I wish more strategy/city building games did stuff like that when you lose particularly badly. In Tropico they're just like "you're not president anymore" even if you got overthrown in a violent coup, in Democracy I know you can get assassinated if you piss off the wrong group way too much, but I want more games where when you lose you just get straight up executed.

Prison Architect does an interesting thing like that.
If you allow too many deaths in a short period of time you will be be convicted of criminal negligence, changing the game to Escape Mode where your goal is to bust out of the prison you have created.
