Or he just likes the show a lot, and has since he was a child.
But that means accepting that not just Tennant and Moffat, but a good few generations of the entire UK are shithouse rat crazy.
I think the reason Dr Who is so great is that a lot of the people making it are the grownup versions of the criminally insane fan boys that grew up watching it. I mean seriosuly, take Tennant literally almost all he ever wrote about in school was about Dr Who. And he became an actor specifically so he could play the Doctor. Oh and he married the daughter of another actor that had previously played the Doctor.
