Like I said, PC ego race.

Ego has nothing do with it. In order to unite against the antithetical forces of console gaming that plague the industry, PC gamers need a collective identity, similar to a national identity, in order to engender a sense of solidarity and motivation.

Well then, I suggest choosing something that doesn't sound as egotistical then, if you don't want me calling anyone who uses "PC master race" the PC ego race.

I know it's supposed to be a joke but it's getting pretty old, and it seems like people are beginning to use it seriously.

"It seems like?" I've been taking it seriously since day one! >:(

You see, you need to understand that identities need a sort of mythology behind them. Stories, ideology, and pomp create national and religious identities (which could be termed egotistical per your definition.)

Were the American or French Revolutionaries superbly masculine freedom fighters fighting in the name of democracy and all that? Nope.

Were the Allies in World War II the absolute good guys in fighting the evil villains of the dark side? No.

Did the Hebrew sicarii hold off the siege so long against the Romans so that when supplies finally ran out they chose to commit suicide? Not likely.

Were the Jews enslaved in Egypt? There's no archaeological evidence.

Did Mohamed fly to the moon and cut it in half while ride a unicorn with a human shaped head?Probably not.

Was there an Islamic Golden Age? Of course not.

But you see, such myths fuel the identity of those who hold it. People are inspired and rally under such tales.

I find it hilarious when someone uses the term PC Master Race. It's like someone's trying to compensate for something...

I do not approve of PC and console gamers needing to have their own collective identity, it's extremely divisive for the gaming culture.

Video games should unite us all regardless of platform. It has become a part of our social network, it has been ingrained in modern society and culture.

It's a rapidly evolving culture that transcends our current divisions be it political, religious, sex, gender, or just varying points of view.

It's a meritocracy, where your skills ultimately matter regardless of your physical characteristics.

It doesn't matter what games you enjoy or what platform you play on, we are gamers, and that's our collective identity.

Instead of bickering on about differences of platform, we should present a united front against our common enemy.

AND THAT IS APPLE.

-cue rallying cry-

And so, I end my rant.

I expect my windows shattered with your counter-salvos.

The differences of platform will always prevent a united front against gamers. PC and console games operate on different axioms.

You see, PC gamers all about the open system and platform. In purchasing a console, one consents through acquiescence to a closed system controlled by corporate elites (Not that that is inherently wrong or bad or anything). In that way, there is a dialectic between opposing ideas.

I'm sorry, old friend, but the clash between PC and console gamers will be always be an eternal struggle like Assassins and Templars Keepers and Hammerites, Alliance versus Horde, Imperium versus Chaos, Jacobites and Robespierres, Ultraquists and Taborites, Dreyfusard and Dreyfusites, demons and devils, vampires and werewolves, and all other groups with opposing values and ideals.

Besides, Macs and consoles are the same thing. Closed systems with restricted hardware and software that encourage loyalty to a brand.

Somewhere, someone ends up clutching his chest as a certain onomatopoeia takes over.

I'm more of a PC guy, but I have close friends who are more console gamers. That said, I've yet to witness us being particularly partisan.

I actually remember reading somewhere that PC gamers are more likely to be nonbinary in their political party affiliation. I'll see if I can dig it up.
