Favourite Band Ever

Postby Aequilibria » Fri Nov 06, 2009 5:56 pm

Blind Guardian, hands down.
The one band that got me away from "Busted" and similar crap like that, 6 years ago... ;)

I've been a Die-Hard Metalhead, ever since.

I prefer the jam rock genre, my all time favorite band is/was called Jiggle the Handle, now the Gary Backstrom Band (the best guitarist I have ever witnessed btw) But as far as known acts? The Grateful Dead come to mind, The Allman Brothers Band, Government Mule...jam grass is a great genre too, Leftover Salmon, String Cheese Incedent etc...

Well since it's favorite band ever, it's a toss up between The Grateful Dead & The Velvet Underground. I don't think there will ever be another band that tours the way The Dead did. They were just awesome to see live. The number of songs they could pull out on a whim on any given night was amazing. I'm lucky to have seen Jerry Garcia play.
Now, I'm not old enough to have seen The Velvet Underground play, but basically, without their music, alternative rock would have never been born. In 67 when everyone esle was singing peace, love, & hippy shit, they were singing "herione, when I put a spike in my vein" & "shiney boots of leather, strike dear mistress, cure my heart". Pretty eye opening stuff for the day.
Now, if the question would have been "Favorite band playing now", I would have to say Ween, hands down, but the Pixes have been playing together again, so they would be a close 2nd.

My favorite band is Slipknot.

I do believe they are metal and if you're going to be a nit-picky nerd raging elitist about your disagreement you can screw right off.
Pro-democracy, pro-NATO, anti-authoritarian, anti-extremism.
Ex-leftist and ex-Muslim.

I stand with Ukraine and Israel.

Actually, it was more because I express the phrase "Oomph!" 4-8 times a day due to various causes, but that's beyond the point.

There's always too many choices, for example, Queen, Aerosmith, and Journey are virtually neck and neck in my book. I only put Queen on top by a thread, and the classicness of their songs seems to exceed that of the latter two quite often.

Other than that, they're equal to me, as are dozens of other bands like them, and even some contemporary ones I've come to like.

Oh, and I see you've gone back to your older flag.

The heart of metal is fat, bald guys with guitars who hate their girlfriends. That's how metal "works," anything else (the presence or absence of vocals, the presence or absence of talent, the presence or absence of a Hot Topic-going audience, the presence or absence of dragons) is just a gimmick.

As someone who has used that website for recommendations in the past, I can assure you of three things:
1. Black Sabbath and Trivium are mentioned there, yet you earlier excluded them from your list of "real metal."
2. There are far too many bands named goddamn "Decimation." Seriously, there's like six of them on that list alone, and that's just the tip of the iceberg, because ...
3. Their definition of what is worthy of listing is draconian and arbitrary.

My favorite band is the Delgados, at least they have the highest number of 5-star rated songs on my computer. I also have a strong fondness for Mogwai, Arab Strap, Mudvayne, Arch Enemy, Cat Power and most projects that Mike Patton is involved in.
