Ceremony - Rohnert Park.

That's the only album you'll ever need if you want to release frustration.

I play guitar, piano, and miscellaneous other stuff. The stuff I play is probably best classified as post-punk and post-rock.

Sonic Youth are probably very important to a lot of bands in your collection. Check out Sister or Daydream Nation. The Pixies are amazing too.

Since everyone is telling me to listen to Sonic Youth, I'll give them a try...

Frisivisia wrote:Only started listening to indie recently? Not interested in decades before this and the last?

I've been listening to a ton of everything within the last year alone. I just, even with my frequent listening habits, can only do so much.

I'm interested in pretty much anything from any decade, but I'm also fairly picky.

Meaning don't send me 80's hair metal or pop.

Capisaria wrote:Not entirely sure but I got nothing better to do...

I posted one of the lists, which was still a work in progress.

I have Best of (Certain years), genres, best albums ever, best albums of a year, and so on and so forth.

Cadonica wrote:1-25 or random order? If random, I might be able to participate in this list "sharing" :p
If in exact order, I can't really do that, too many too good songs :p

I'm having a hard time making an order, soooo...whatever works.

Volmachtia wrote:Groove metal is great when you're pissed.

I'm not sure I know much groove metal. I know more funk metal.

Angry music can be fun, though :P Especially trying to sing along to it when you can't sing worth a crap.

The REAL Glasers wrote:Also make sure to check out Superchunk. Nothing makes me happier than this video. Seeing my favorite artist of all time (John Darnielle) rock out and sing with them like he's their biggest fan gives me a feeling of glee that nothing else does. Their earlier stuff is far superior, but this video's a TV performance gem.

Will do.

If you want angry stuff, I'll recommend:
Napalm Death - On the Brink of Extinction
Unleashed - The Greatest of All Lies
Impaled Nazarene - For Those Who Have Fallen
Last Days of Humanity - A Divine Proclamation of Finishing the Present Existence

General genres, (at least for me when I'm angry), thrash and black metal and grindcore/goregrind.

So, I came across with this "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" list and decided to check what albums it has. I've alredy heard 47 of them and I own 19 of them. Might go through the rest 954 albums... at least the ones I've been meaning to check anyways, about 50 or so. Another "forever project" for me.
Anways, albums I've heard, scores, owned (if I own):
1950s

1960s

Doors – Doors (1st Album), 86/100
Hendrix, Jimi – Are You Experienced, 92/100
Hendrix, Jimi – Axis: Bold as Love, 93/100
Hendrix, Jimi – Electric Ladyland, 89/100
Pretty Things – S.F. Sorrow, 78/100
Creedence Clearwater Revival – Bayou Country, 97/100

1970s

Black Sabbath – Black Sabbath (1st Album), 93/100, Owned
Doors – Morrison Hotel, 82/100
Black Sabbath – Paranoid, 93/100, Owned
Doors – LA Woman, 92/100
Black Sabbath – Vol 4, 82/100, Owned
King Crimson – Lark’s Tongues in Aspic, 90/100
Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon, 52/100
ZZ Top – Tres Hombres, 90/100
Springsteen, Bruce – Born to Run, 84/100
Boston – Boston (1st Album), 100/100, Owned
Kiss – Destroyer, 72/100
Rush – 2112, 93/100
Kraftwerk – Man Machine, 90/100
Thin Lizzy – Live & Dangerous, 95/100
Van Halen – Van Halen (1st Album), 96/100
AC/DC – Highway to Hell, 98/100

1980s

AC/DC – Back in Black, 98/100
Motörhead – Ace of Spades, 97/100, Owned
Judas Priest – British Steel, 96/100, Owned
Iron Maiden – Iron Maiden (1st Album), 93/100
Motörhead – No Sleep ‘Til Hammersmith, 100/100
Rush – Moving Pictures, 97/100
Venom – Black Metal, 98/100
Springsteen, Bruce – Nebraska, 74/100
Iron Maiden – Number of the Beast, 95/100
ZZ Top – Eliminator, 96/100, Owned
Van Halen – 1984, 82/100, Owned
Springsteen, Bruce – Born in the USA, 98/100, Owned
Dire Straits – Brothers in Arms, 82/100
Metallica – Master of Puppets, 98/100, Owned
Megadeth – Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?, 90/100, Owned
Slayer – Reign in Blood, 86/100, Owned
Anthrax – Among the Living, 92/100, Owned
Guns N’ Roses – Appetite for Destruction, 98/100, Owned
Napalm Death – Scum, 98/100, Owned
Metallica – And Justice for All, 96/100, Owned
Aerosmith – Pump, 92/100

1990s

Megadeth – Rust in Peace, 100/100, Owned
Metallica – Metallica [aka Black Album], 95/100, Owned
Pantera – Vulgar Display of Power, 87/100, Owned
Slipknot – Slipknot (1st Album), 73/100

2000s

Every album of those deserve to be there, even if I didn't give 90+/100. Those albums with 85+ rating are on my "shopping list" without questions. Few lower scored albums are there just for the sake of being legendary.

EDIT: See the full list here

You've got some pretty great albums on your list a post up, and I agree with pretty much all of your ratings (except for Nebraska - 74/100? WHAAAAAAA?). I liked High Hopes a bunch too - I think 41 Shots might have been the best Bruce song of the last ten years.

Every now and again I must step back and marvel at the writhing mass of bands out there.
Reaming through old-ass bookmarks. A lot of it's shit, but there are gold nuggets here and there. Cream tends to rise to the top, though.

Anyone know a band that mixes harder alternative rock with progressive rock, and YES I KNOW TOOL

Hmm...Alternative rock/progressive rock isn't really a mix I see commonly, so I'm not sure if I have anything or not. Scrolling through some of my lists...

However, psychedelic rock and progressive rock seem to be a very common mix...Bands like Porcupine Tree CAME from being psychedelic rock to progressive rock, for example.

Serj Tankian?........I dunno, I don't really seem to have any good options (Other than Tool)

I think one problem with me "Going through" Tangerine Dream, as I mentioned, is that they have a shitton of albums...

So thanks for the suggestion. I'll find that album and give it a listen...

Their work on the Grand Theft Auto V soundtrack is pretty good, as well. Along with all the others involved, including the guys behind one of my favorite soundtracks (Red Dead Redemption Soundtrack)

Edit: Tangerine Dream has released over one hundred albums

Holy shit.

Indeed. Have you any curiosity, the prog rock band The Flower Kings has roughly 20 hours of music. And it's good stuff.
Have I listened to it all? Oh sweet HELL no. But i'm digging it.
