On a random note, I'd totally pay to see Madame Vastra get a spinoff. Mostly for Strax. That guy cracks me up.

I didn't really hate it. It just felt like the throngs of Rubber Mask Aliens were the selling point, and the actual plot was secondary.

Quite.

I was pleasantly surprised by the girl's acting and singing, though. And the Doctor's speech at the end is great.

The episode would've been a lot better if they kept the mummy-thing as the main villain, and had his servants do a bit more.

That speech was pretty epic. Reminded me of Nine's little spittle flying rant from "Dalek".

I heard that Rings was commissioned without much time, and Cross was meant to only write one episode.

Which would explain quite a bit. I hope he comes back for Series 8.

Yeah, that would've been a good idea. The planet-God concept was silly. Though the main reason I like the episode is not because of how they pull off the reveals (they don't) but rather the acting and the 'what could've been is infinite' plot at the back of it all. I found the leaf thingy really beautiful.

The leaf thing was okay. But I found it a little underwhelming after the Doctor let that thing feed off of thousands of years of misery. Kinda reminds me of when kickers win Superbowls.

The leaf makes more sense later.

But spoilers.

It isn't terrible, but that doesn't make it good.

The big problem is that there is only one Ice Warrior. They change from clever soldiers to stomping idiots in small numbers.

The Hurt Doctor is actually the Doctor becoming a priest who believes in faith healing, thereby breaking the promise of being a real doctor.

Oh my god that would be hilarious. Hurt doesn't have the charisma to be that good at it. You'd need a proud southern gentleman faith healer and televangelist to do the job right.

Agreed, Pope John Hurt must be a thing at least by the release of Name of the Doctor.

Also, since I've gotta go, I'll probably miss page 500. Bummer.
