While Katganistan already handled the announcements and explaining, we would like to summarize and re-produce it in our words to enable clearness in our preferences, reactions, and other applicable context in this post by Holtia.

To Make It Easy For Comparison and Stats, Here’s the original Version in a spoiler.

Players can no longer create regions or nations with names containing the word "nazi," and moderators will remove existing regions and nations with that word, except where it's obviously benign in nature (such as "Alliance Against Nazis").

What Hasn't Changed
Site policy has long prohibited content that appears to celebrate or endorse violence against real-life people. This includes creating nations in the image of Nazi Germany, because of its close association with the Holocaust. This remains the case, whether or not such nations or regions use the specific word "nazi."

What Has Changed & Why
(1) We've added "nazi" to the list of blocked words that cannot be used in a name when creating a nation or region. This was actually the case previously, but the word was removed from the blocklist in 2016 as some players wanted to use it in benign contexts (such as "Alliance Against Nazis"). (2) When determining whether a nation or region violates site policy, we now judge names on their own, regardless of context. This is a change because previously we've looked at the entire package of a nation or region to judge its name in context with its flag and other custom fields. The problem with this practice is that moderators primarily examine nations and regions when they are first created, and so sometimes nations or regions pass muster at first, then later, away from moderator scrutiny, adopt a more malicious context via flags, slogans, and other custom fields.

Summary

It is no longer possible to create or revive a nation or region with a name that contains "nazi."
Existing nations and regions with names containing "nazi" will be removed by moderators unless those names are, by themselves, clearly not an attempt to evoke Nazi Germany.
If an existing nation/region's name contains "nazi" in a clearly non-malicious way, it will not be removed, but if it ceases to exist through inactivity, it cannot be restored.

While Banning Something such as porn images and sexual sites are good moves, banning things such as certain political ideals sometimes can be problematic. The Nazi Community is a sizable one, with dedicated regions, nations, and even protecting their ideal even when many anti-fascist and Nazis militias raid and seize such powers.

Also Since NS is a political nation stimulation game, it should not interfere nor defy real political ideals. While I learn towards the extreme left side, I do feel for the right political people and how NS is briefly under-going a era of leftism because many right ideals are being banned, enforced more harshly and much others.

While Nazis has been a historical problem in many sites including NS, I feel like it should be enforced like QAnon, COVID-19, Hate Sites, Capitol Protests, and Election 2021. Just state that we do not endorse these groups, nor allow them to manipulate NS users for recruitment in crimes and terrorism, but do not straight eradicate them and let them keep their own political ideas. No Game, especially marked as such neutral should encourage / discourage certain political movements.

I would say “political movement” gives them much more credit than they deserve. “Supremacist movement” or “hate movement” is much more accurate. They’re not espousing ideas relevant to modern politics, they are glorifying the ruling policies of a totalitarian mass murderer. Historically, these people took power legally, so this ideology is clearly not above spreading hatred and discrimination within the bounds of the rules.

So, as a random fun fact, I am currently using the data of all the nations that I have obtained from Feb 2021. Said data was for my data analysis purposes in Got Issues, and as a random thought, I assumed that this would delete a great chunk of nations. Turns out, my filter shows that there were only 118 nations (as of Feb 2021) with the word "Nazi" inside.

They shall not be missed, I suppose. 118 nations out of 230,000+ is just a small drop in the database that I will work on.


It was quite fun while it lasted, though. Ah wells.

The vast majority of the regions we cleared were also trophies held by anti-Nazi factions. I think maybe 5 or 6 tops were active Nazi regions.

Out of curiosity, how large were those regions?

So I hate to be that guy, then would that mean this and this would have to be updated, since the rules have changed?
