BIG [Report]

Postby Sharania » Sun May 27, 2018 12:36 am

Multiple cases of:

Trolling/Baiting/Gloating: Trolling is defined as posts that are made with the aim of angering people. (like 'ALL JEWS ARE [insert vile comment here]' for example). Someone disagreeing with you does not equate to trolling. Intent is incredibly important and will be judged by the moderators to the best of their abilities. Honest belief does not excuse trolling. Disagreements are expected and conducting yourself in a civil manner is ideal. Trollbaiting is the action of making posts that attract trolls. A prime example of trollbaiting would be gloating over the results of an election.

And some outright flaming as well:

1) Threatening others with violence.

2) Posting memes calling for the genocide.

3) Telling another player to commit suicide.

4) "Joking" about willingness to commit genocide.

5) Ethnic slur for entire country

While I appreciate Sharania's dedication to the truth and desire for justice, extending even into ancient posts. I'd like to point out to the good sorts of moderation that this is clearly taken out of context.

The first was mocking the living document standard regarding as a cornerstone of liberal thought in the United States, showing the ridiculousness of the idea by putting it another context, a common technique among originalists here.

The second was friendly memri TV posting, translations of Arab TV that are popular memes. These are also rountinely posted in various forms on NSG, widely regarded as good humor. Should I be punished for a post like that nearly a month previous, then there would be quite a few other prominent posters who too would be nabbed by this sudden turn of events.

The third is also clearly good humor regarding Roman traditions. If one was a traitor as the Gracchi brothers were regarded, they got thrown off the Tarpian rock. The poster before said he might get the rock. By mock offering CM the option of taking honorable way out, I was showing my respect for him rather telling him he should kill himself.

The fourth is in reference to the plowshares project, a nuke repurposing program. It was the poster after who implied I'd keep the people there while executing such a project.

The fifth was one of the many nicknames I use for Germany. It was not used in a derogatory manner, indeed is was in the midst of a serious post regarding an important concept. It breaks up the monotony of using Germany repeatedly. I'm also fond of using Old Hans among other names.

It is well known that Sharania have a history. Even when I am gracious, they continuously press for more. I hope moderation will see this for what it is, an attempt to trawl through my posts, up to a month or more ago and from long locked threads in an attempt to get me banned. We've not had any contact since the last time they reported me and they have made only a single post since that incident, this is quite clearly not in good faith. I am completely fine if the mods insist on a request not to contact and foe list if need be rather than this zealous hunt for improprieties.

Interesting reading.

I've read the posts and as much of the context as possible and I'd say that a couple of those comments were in bad taste, but I don't see anything rule-breaking here.

Cheers,

Audio.

As a general note, three of the reported posts are from a month ago (roughly), one is from May 14th (the better part of two weeks), with one being from today. I see no reason to overturn Audio's ruling here, but I do want to make note of this...

Don't go digging for things to find actionable from the past. While actionable content is always potentially actionable, Moderation applies a reasonable expectation against folks just digging for things someone might have said/done after a considerable period of time has elapsed, and generally won't take action against such. If it was so pressing then, it should have been reported in a timely fashion. Of course there is a difference between a mild flame or a mild bit of trolling and, say, posting porn or obscene content, and there will always be extraordinary cases... But on average, don't go digging; if you see something that's actionable at the time, report it.

I'm almost scared to ask here, as two mods have ruled but, after seeing instances of posters doing this very thing the OP did, I'd like to inquire about possible rulings regarding this kind of behavior.

It looks like bad faith. Just going through a poster's posting history in the hopes to get something out of it to get them in trouble because they may not like said poster, seems petty and worthy of a close look.

If this is not the place, I understand and could I be pointed in the right direction for these kinds of inquiries? I'd appreciate it.

The question is fine.

"Bad faith" is very limited in it's applicability, which the behavior you have indicated would not fall under. What you're describing, if it became a habit, would be harassment and/or Mods-as-a-Weapon. In this case, I think the nice note I made regarding digging-up posts to be sufficient.

We take a very dim view of both harassment and MoaW, and if a pattern were to present itself, appropriate action would be taken.

Fair enough. Thank you, Kyru.

Just one question. Does it mean that the Moderation team approve of these Memri-TV memes, which often call for genocide, full of racist, mysognistic, homophobic and just plaint hateful messages, i.e. which, if posted, constitute flaming?

It means you've had two separate Moderators rule that the reported posts, to include ones at least a month old, are, in this context, not actionable. As always, context is key and instances are judged individually.
