Well, if it's only for a few hours I doubt anybody goes insane from NS withdrawal. Periodic maintenance is necessary, so let's all just find something else to do in the meanwhile.

In my experience, ultra-realists in RP tend to be the sort of people who see an RP as a contest to be won, rather than a story to be told, but because they lack honestly any story-writing ability, they seek to lawyer their way to a victory by drowning everybody in statistics and demanding everything run strictly by a laundry list of statistics and figures they dig out of obscure field manuals and tech magazines.

Not fully back up. Work is still being carried out.

It's likely that when NS is back up, some elements (minigames primarily) won't immediately be fully functioning, and may come online a few days later. More details will be confirmed when they're known.

Violet has been working on this for over 12 hours straight now, and Eluvatar for several hours too.

NationStates is closed over Christmas because the database server blew up and it will take forever to restore everything from backup. We aim to be back online by the end of the year.

Finally I'm able to login to my account. When I tried yesterday it said I had entered in something wrong, but I had Chrome autofill on. Tried again with the same one using Chrome autofill and works. It's a weird thing that happens during the times when NS gets downed.

Login details are stored gameside, so if gameside is completely down, it cannot verify your credentials, so it just defaults to "incorrect password."

Obviously, the login verification system is restored now, even though most of the game's resources are still down. Just enough to keep the forum usable.
