Val Z here! Just would like to mention a pretty funny name, that's all. For option 1, one that goes by the name of Björn Onion.
Valentine Z's first ever puppet.
• I really want to carry a kitten and pet it.
• A perfect balance between urban and nature.
• Ruled by a magical android from another dimension, always cheerful and smiling.

Hello. I report a thing that has just happened: in the issue #1173 "Thinking a Little Too Hard?" I have chosen the option 1, that allows some military research around the psychic powers and paranormal.
The issue I got after the choice is the #1595 "Plausible Deniability" that talk about the effects of paranormal military research in a remote village.

Maybe it was just a random chance, but they really seems related. So, as the guide actually does not say the issue 1173 choice 1 opens the issue 1595, pheraps someone else can check if it happens again, or if it was just random.

#1595 says "psychological", not "psychic". I think it's supposed to be less magic and more drugs and hypnosis (which has also been scientifically debunked, but whatever).

Also, are you talking about a puppet? The nation you posted with is not recorded as having answered either #1173 or #1595 recently.

EDIT: Nonetheless, I just spotted evidence (on Soviet Kat) that you may be onto something.

The following sentence is presented in Option 1527.1: "Our future 'queen' is as entitled to the right to marry someone of the same sex as any other Honeydewistanian!" Honeydewistanian should probably be replaced with @@DEMONYM@@.

Sounds like something similar that Pogeria wrote not long ago - a different issue but also one dealing with the military using psychic "stuff".

Testing suggests that #1595 follows up on #1173 option 1, and only #1173 option 1, not any other issue option, even #1173 option 2.

I haven't solved it either, but I do have a datum that might help someone find the solution. As far as I can remember, I have only received option 3 for fairly young nations. I don't think I've ever gotten it for a nation with a capital city, surely not one with enough population to get a custom pretitle. I have no idea how this might fit in with the text of the option - maybe it's just an accidental thing afflicting the kinds of puppets I tend to create. Still it might be an observation someone else could make sense out of (or refute, of course).

I guess I get to refute this now, or at least admit that the above is not always true. I just had a puppet nation receive #1521 as its 21st issue, and option 3 was not present. Its Policies in toto were Capitalism, Compulsory Organ Harvesting, Maternity Leave and Vegetarianism, none of which seems particularly relevant to the option. The Science stat was 24.49 and Primitiveness -24.49, which I interpret as saying the nation had a very small scientific bent, for whatever that might be worth.

I have this awful feeling that this mystery may never be solved.

Indeed - I also checked my own archive and on almost 100 encounters of #1595 I tracked down 100% trailing from issue 1173 being answered shortly before that with option 1, no exception. It does not directly trigger it, it only makes #1595 available. Sometimes there were a significant number of other issues in between answering these two. Good catch.

That is not what my research suggests. Are you sure those nations weren't answering multiple issues at the same time due to having them banked?

No, I only answer a single issue at a time at each nation (with only very few exceptions that are not covered here). But I wonder that too. After checking half of them again in the log I found that mostly the direct follow-up issue after 1173.1 was 1595, sometimes with a backlog of 1-2 other issues being answered in between. Only in one case I found 5 issues being answered between these two. As I answer my nations sequentially there should not be a single nation with a (significantly) longer backlog than the others around it. However, that was in early December 2023, I don't remember how that may have come to pass. Perhaps I didn't have much time then and the backlog wasn't at 1-2 but at 4-5.

I do, but to save space (and for ease) I only use one timestamp per "block of nations", not for each nation individually. So at least I know the date and time at the start of each block, which gives order.

I'm fairly sure that "#1373: You Should Have (Copy)Left My Software Alone!" should have random name macros. My results had names unexact to what was shown

It has been the practice of the SPOILER ALERT thread custodians since Jutsa not to randomise names that cannot be absolutely confirmed as random.

A new one, a new one!

#1624 @@CAPITAL@@ Coffinrail [Aphobeathesi; ed: Candlewhisper Archive]
The Issue

@@CAPIPTAL@@’s railway system has come under fire recently after relatives were allowed to ship their deceased family member in a baggage car.

The Debate

1. “Surely you can’t object to what we did?” asks the dead @@MAN@@’s sibling, looking strangely at ease considering @@HIS@@ recent loss. “Our parents wanted her buried in the family plot back home... and that’s a fair trek by horse and cart. The government should stay out of our business and let dead people on trains! So what if I put her in a mail bag? Coffins aren’t cheap, you know.”

2. “You can’t let this happen,” weeps traumatized city worker @@RANDOMNAME@@, who wasn’t on that train, and who hasn’t actually ever been on a train. “It’s surely upsetting to be forced to witness death up-close! Not to mention it must smell horrible, and is probably unhygienic. You must ban the transport of corpses in trains used by the general public!”

3. “There’s always a compromise to be had,” whispers @@RANDOMNAME@@, your pallid Minister for Transportation, touching your shoulder softly as @@HE@@ leans to your ear. “Many people have good reasons to transport dead bodies from one place to another, but not everybody is as comfortable with them as you or I. So we simply fund a separate train system. A train for the dead — in funeral colours — headed for the final destination.”

Sad to see the author in the graveyard, but maybe the nation can return someday.
