Tapatalk is going through and deleting/archiving old forums to the point they can't be accessed, especially after they have been converted.

So if anyone wants to be sure we retain bits of NS history from their old regions (beyond what we get in the wayback machine), they might consider looking into the really old forums before Tapatalk switches them off.

I think it was never converted in first place (so, offline since September rather than just now). The same happened to Old Blue and PRP's boards.

RIP the old forums. History will be lost.

It was able a terrible site to begin with McS. But yeah... Lots of NS history will be lost there...

Well as a bit dishonest to say the least.

Pretty much Proboards is the last remaining major free provider of off-site NS forums (from back when IF/ZB wasn't taken over by Tapatalk).

A lot seem to have migrated to Proboards or PhpBB now.

We should create a region called Tapatalk and condemn it.

There was a draft but the mods thought it would break 'Rule 4' or some nonsense like that.

I do not think that Tapatalk deleted the forums yet, but it seems that they no longer run the software that powers the old-style forums. Maybe if a member asks them with the URLs of their forums in question, then maybe they will do something about it.

The forum isn't deleted. It just has to be converted but I'm fairly certain that only the root admin can make that happen.

I've never liked Crapatalk to begin with. I was upset when Invision Free was taken over by Tapatalk rather recently, thus turning the simple, usable layout of sites like The 110 Club into complete junk that looks ugly and locks up frequently. This is just another reason to stick with either ProBoards or an independently hosted PHPBB forum.

Yeah, I've lost a lot of forums around with Tapatalk wiping them out too. Fortunately, my most recent previous region as well as the one I'm currently working on had their forums on Jcink, which I also highly recommend.

Honestly, it just seems a lot of regions are opting to not have a forums.

In the top 50 (actual) regions, 13 of them do not have a forum (26%)
In the top 150 (actual) regions, that spikes dramatically to 78 (52%)

These regions all seem to have a Discord though, that platform has completely supplanted the forum it seems.

Discord can certainly handle most of our needs, but it’s Knot a true replacement.

I strongly encourage self-hosting the forums these days. phpBB is open source, web hosting is not too expensive, and there is the backup option in phpBB, which I found out while playing around a little while back.

I could certainly flex my forum muscles. It’s been a while. I’ve been begrudging it since the fall of Zetaboards.

Not true - when browsing NS history and/or being a NationStates Miniver Cheevy, I emailed the support staff to restore the Central Defense Army's old forums, which were promptly restored even they I've never even been on NationStates in 2005 nor had an account on the CDA's forums, much less serve as any sort of admin or the root.
