Excuse me if I intrude this conversation, I've been following this and just have to get my two cents in.

Netflix original "The Crown" gives a really good explanation on how a constitutional monarchy with a Parliament should work and how the monarch should interact with the head of state.

"There is the dignified and there is the efficient", the monarchy being the former and the government the latter. In the British monarchy, the monarch has the right to warn, the right to be consulted, and the right to encourage. According the Economist in their article about "The Crown", "The efficient has the power to make and execute policy and is answerable to the electorate. The monarch, the dignified, gives significance and legitimacy to the efficient and is answerable to God". With any constitutional monarchy there has to be trust and harmony between the elected government and the monarchy without overreaching each others' spheres

Maybe these role play monarchies should reflect that. A close friend of mine who also plays this game has been in regions where the monarchy tries to overreach its place and put its tentacles all over the political process, which causes tyranny and an autocratic system with the illusion of democratic-republic aspects in the political systems. Something y'all should keep in mind but of course I don't know much about your region to make any judgments

On Constitutional Reform

On Constitutional Reform

Five years ago we ratified the Book of the Dead, Osiris’s first constitution. Though it has long since been repealed, the devisiveness it bred left marks on Osiris that rippled through history.

I do not run from the past, nor do I hide the part I played in creating that divide. As Head Scribe of our first constitutional convention, I was one of the architects of the Book of the Dead - a document which history has deemed toxic and flawed. The former is indisputable, the latter is a misunderstanding. The Book of the Dead functioned precisely as it was designed; to invest power in an oligarchy and bury dissent. It was a constitution built on power, not on trust and when that power was threatened, it self-destructed. For that alone I deserved my exile.

But community is stronger than tyranny. Each time Osiris inched towards the brink, our community came together to rescue us from oblivion. It is our community that makes us powerful, not autocracy. I never wanted to be a tsar, nor did my predecessor, and this constitutional reform will dissolve the absolutism that has followed Osiris since our founding.

Henceforth the Pharaoh will be a head of state and counselor and a symbol of unity, not of power. The Chief Vizier, chosen by the people, will fulfill the great duties of state as Head of His Majesty’s Government.

I look forward to reigning along side my people, rather than ruling over them, and so it is with pride that I affix my signature to this document.

Many years ago, the Great Kenbet was tasked with the role of being Osiris' judiciary. In that position, myself, Zaolat, and Kain the Dragoon had the exceptional responsibility of framing the Osirian constitution, in its nascent days, setting down the customary law that would shape the ongoing state of Osirian law and order. I am pleased to say that, after much deliberation, Kain the Dragoon, Zaolat, and I, have resolved the question put to us in our inaugural decision on the question of Tim vs. Osiris. We hope that this will be the first of many fair and speedy trials conducted by the region of Osiris.

Upon deliberation with the Great Kenbet, we have considered the evidence available that Tim attempted to plan an invasion with the intention of overthrowing the legitimately elected government of Osiris, under the delegacy of Dalimbar.

In light of recent events, it has become clear to the Great Kenbet that the governance structures of Osiris are vulnerable such as to make an invasion conceivable. This has allowed the Great Kenbet to establish that, as an individual who has now shown an interest in and competence at conducting raiding and defending in a leadership capacity, Tim had both the material and the immaterial means to affect a delegacy change in Osiris. Furthermore, in considering Tim's future contributions to GP organizations, and in Osiris itself, we believe that it is possible to identify an interest in affecting systematic change for the purpose of undermining the existing political identity of those organizations. As a member of the Grey Wardens, his membership of a proscribed organization retroactively justifies the Great Kenbet's decision that Tim's interest in Osiris is fundamentally at odds with the current interests of the Osirian government. Finally, his cooperation and known relationship with long-term actor Bachman-Turner Overdrive (whom the Great Kenbet has recently identified as Durkadurkiranistan, a known agitator and participant in GCR coups) was crucial direct evidence that allowed the court to tie together the circumstantial evidence uncovered by the Great Kenbet.

Whilst the Great Kenbet understands that the delegacy of -St George- chose to push for a plea of "Charges not Proven" in its role as the prosecution, the Great Kenbet believes that this oversteps the bounds of any reasonable separation of powers in the Osirian government, as we believe was the intention of the Framers of the Osirian Constitution. As a result, we respectfully choose to decline the prosecution's attempt to pardon the defendant, and instead, in an unanimous decision of 3-0, find the defendent GUILTY. We sentence them to one year's hard labour.

This opinion by Siam Meow (The Grim Reaper), joined by Zaolat & Kain the Dragoon. This concludes the Great Kenbet's Discord-based deliberation on the trial Tim vs Osiris. We thank the Defense Counsel, Cormac, and the Special Prosecutor appointed by the court, Cormac.

Zaolat - Today at 12:19 PM: I find Tim guilty
The Grim Reaper - Today at 12:19 PM: agreed
L E O N A R D O [Kain the Dragoon] - Today at 12:39 PM: I vote alongside my fellow judges given the solid facts that are obviously irrefutable

It's a mighty shame the Kemetic Republic doesn't exist anymore, given I officially sanctioned its shut-down while I remained the last active member of it not in the OFO a few years back ;)

For the record, since there seems to be some confusion, the above post was a joke three former members of Osiris' long-defunct judiciary came up with. Nobody is actually attacking Tim. :P

With some people these days, you have to really clarify for them, you know? I appreciated the joke, though :P

Expulsion of Biyah from Osiris

Expulsion of Biyah from Osiris

We have often spoken of Osiris as a place for second chances. We look beyond a nation's past and where they came from in hopes they can find peace and contribute to our community. But there are limits to those second chances and what we as a region may work past - they may extend to in-game political immoralities, but they do not, and shall never, extend to OOC actions or characterizations.

Biyah has undoubtedly crossed the boundary separating IC and OOC, and in doing so has forfeited his right to live in our region and participate in our community.

Therefore, by Article I, Section 2(3) of the Scroll of Ma'at, we hereby request the Council of Priests to approve the revocation of Biyah's citizenship.

Our constitution also charges the Pharaoh with maintaining in-game security. Biyah's continued presence in Osiris poses a threat to our home, and so, by Article III, Section 1(3) of the Scroll of Ma'at, I hereby banject Biyah from Osiris.

We urge the Council of Priests to give this request their full consideration.

Never underestimate the power of cynicism, pessimism and negativity to prevent terrible things from happening. Only idealists try to build the future on a mountain of bodies.

The Thing to Remember About NationStates is that it is an almost entirely social game - fundamentally, you have no power beyond your own ability to convince people to go along with your ideas. In that sense, even the most dictatorial region is fundamentally democratic.

I concur with the decisions made by the Pharaoh and the Priests. These particular things are not what Osiris -- or any other region for that matter -- needs at all.

Hail the Pharaoh and Council of Priests!

A gentle reminder for those who don't understand why Zaolat isn't posting the content on the NS site: certain things are best left offsite lest one falls afoul of the NS rules. A further reminder that a link to an offsite forum thread post containing rulebreaking material can be treated as if the poster of that link had stated the things in that post themselves.

From the Office of the Chief Vizier

Osiris Flag Contest 3.0!!!

The Osiris Fraternal Order will be hosting a flag contest for a new design to be the next official flag of Osiris.

1. Any citizen, diplomat, or someone with a Guest Visa can submit a flag for the contest in this thread.

2. Flag submissions must include a flag for the region, and an equivalent flag with an alternative color scheme for the Sekhmet Legion.

3. Participants may submit flag designs in this thread from Monday, April 10th at 5:00 p.m. (CST) to Monday, April 17th at 5:00 p.m. (CST).

4. Any submission that doesn't abide by site rules will be disqualified.

5. Citizens of Osiris will then vote on the flag submissions over a three day period. The flag with the majority of votes will be deemed the winner.

6. The Pharaoh and Chief Vizier reserves the right to conduct a second run-off vote in the event of a close vote.

7. The Pharaoh and Chief Vizier also reserve the right to disqualify any flag that is regarded as offensive.

This thread will be opened at the time submissions open and will close again once they finish. You have less than a week until they open, so start designing!

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!

There will also be a contest for the worst flag! That's right, if you're not good at making a somewhat decent flag, or you don't really want to try, you can draft up one of the most memiest, silliest, horrible looking flags that you can think of. The winner of the worst flag contest becomes the flag flown by Syberis for the next month! All above rules apply, and voting for the worst flag will follow the conclusion of the general flag contest.
