[PASSED] On the Artworks of Defunct Nations

Postby Drew Durrnil » Tue Feb 14, 2023 10:36 am

The World Assembly;

Awed by the vast collections of artwork across the multiverse, as well as the cultural or economic impact they may have on a nation;

Understanding that unique artwork of all existing nations continues to be produced, traded, and destroyed at a high rate, resulting in an international artwork market that brings together collectors of all ideologies;

Noting the undersupply of artworks attributed to nations that no longer exist, which are scarcely seen on the market as the find rate of such items reduces significantly upon those nations disappearing;

Especially frustrated by artwork credited to legendary nations who cease to exist, making these already valuable works even more inaccessible to the majority of gallery curators;

Exasperated by the fact that some of these artworks have sold for extremely high prices, often meaning that only the wealthiest artwork collectors can afford to buy these artworks when an auction does occur;

Lamenting unfortunate situations where no works of a nation are found in any national galleries despite the nation having known art credited to it, making the completion of some collections impossible unless a highly improbable find occurs;

Fearing that the rarity of these artworks and the price that they are sold at can easily discourage artwork collectors;

Believing that all nations should be given a fair chance to build their collections, especially since doing so encourages cultural exchange, collaboration opportunities, and trade across the multiverse;

Hereby:
  • Declares artworks of defunct nations to be among the rarest artworks in NationStates;
  • Encourages those who own or discover such items to either proudly display or sell them to collectors; and
  • Officially discourages hoarding, destruction, or inflation of artworks credited to defunct nations.

The World Assembly;

Awed at the vast collections of the most prolific artwork collectors, containing countless amounts of rare artworks;

Recognizing the unusual rarity of national artworks whose nations have since disappeared, with these artworks being much rarer than artworks of currently existing nations;

Seeing that some artworks of nations no longer existing are legendary artworks and are thus extremely rare and valued by artwork collectors, with the general consensus among artwork collectors being that these legendary artworks of defunct nations are the most valuable in NationStates;

Noticing that these artworks have sold for extremely high prices sometimes in excess of 1,000 bank, with the values and thus prices of these artworks drastically increasing upon their nation disappearing due to the rarity of finding defunct nation artwork;

Bemoaning that the high values of these artworks mean that only the richest artwork collectors can afford to buy these artworks at an auction;

Noting that the completion of many artwork collections has been hampered by the rarity of these artworks, causing many pains among artwork collectors;

Lamenting that many artworks of defunct nations have 0 owners, making the completion of a collection impossible until a nation eventually finds that artwork, and even then nations are often reluctant to give that artwork to artwork collectors;

Believing that the rarity of these artworks and the price that they are sold at can easily discourage artwork collectors;

Further believing that artwork collectors should be able to complete their collections if they put in the effort to complete them;

Hereby:
  • Declares artworks of defunct nations to be the rarest artworks in NationStates; and
  • Encourages owners of defunct nation artwork to sell these artworks to artwork collectors requiring the artwork to complete a collection.

The World Assembly;

Recognizing the unusual rarity of national artworks whose nations have since disappeared, with these artworks being much rarer than artworks of currently existing nations;

Seeing that some artworks of nations no longer existing are legendary artworks and are thus extremely rare and sought after by artwork collectors;

Noticing that these artworks have sold for extremely high prices, sometimes in excess of 1,000 bank, with the prices of these artworks drastically inflating upon their nation disappearing due to the rarity of finding defunct nation artwork;

Noting that the completion of many artwork collections has been hampered by the rarity of these artworks, causing many pains among artwork collectors;

Lamenting that many artworks of defunct nations have 0 owners, making the completion of a collection impossible;

Believing that the rarity of these artworks and the price that they are sold at can easily discourage artwork collectors;

Further believing that artwork collectors should be able to finish their collections;

Pineappleistania is known to be a completely unbiased commentator and is FOR this proposal after recent changes. There is no bias here. No puppetry. Nothing. You see nothing, but feel like you definitely most certainly will want to support this proposal, regardless of how you previously felt.

Against. I don't see any purpose in this resolution, especially with its unusually specific examples. WS failing to acquire AoCI is unfortunate, but there have still been 5 other legendary collections completed.

It's probably just as notable as saying the only thing stopping me from having 3 sets of legendary collections is 2 copies of AoCI. Some may even suggest that mine is a more impressive[ly brainless] collection being hampered so you should cite it instead.

I would certainly be more inclined to support a broader declaration on CTE cards, but using specific card transactions and collections may not be the right way to go since it'll be outdated quickly and the plight of 3 traders doesn't really sum up the impact of the other thousands of cte cards out there.

I like this for the most part. Support in principle. To start, two things:

Firstly, I counted and you say the phrase "artwork collectors" nine separate times. To be honest, I don't have anything wrong with that but in the "Seeing" line you say the phrase twice pretty close together. Once again, nothing wrong with it but I would recommend switching up the word choice (potentially using solely "collectors" or finding a synonym).

Secondly, a small stylistic change that does not have to be adopted:

Drew Durrnil wrote:Lamenting that many artworks of defunct nations have 0 owners, making the completion of a collection impossible until a nation eventually finds that artwork, and even then nations are often reluctant to give that artwork to artwork collectors;

For me, it's what's bolded. I'm not sure if, when reading out loud, "have 0 owners" sounds too fluid. Maybe "no owners" could work in its replacement. Does not have to be added to the declaration though -- just something that caught my eye.

Hopefully I'm asking this before you campaign for it, but I have a question for the mods/Sedge on this one. Does "find rate" fall afoul of R2(a)? It feels a little too close to the technical aspect of the game to me, but I could be wrong.

My IC interpretation is that the artwork of cte nations can only be "found" from the remnants of the fallen nation (as opposed to the normal rate where artwork is simply produced within the nation and easily found as a result).

Edit: wrong nation, oh well

I think it's okay, and can be filed under "quirk of the NationStates world" that nations find cards/artwork.
