What's wrong is that during times of war, traitors should be detained without question. That draft does not include any section on that issue.

It is my considered opinion that you should fight that battle in that draft, rather than producing an entire rival proposal of your own.

And in that case, you charge those people with treason so they're not being held without charge and their Habeas Corpus rights are not being violated.

I can be charged with treason anytime, and yes there are separate protocols. But wartime circumstances are sometimes strenuous, what if an entire state in my nation wants to secede. I want to be able to hold them to suppress unnecessary revolt. Will you concede this into your draft? I can help you write it, and will endorse your draft.

You have now been pointed to the drafting thread several times by several people, including (now) TWO site moderators. This thread is about the proposed repeal. It's not about you, your GA education, or your opinions on draft replacements.

Now, go do the reading I recommended earlier and make your points in the Draft threads before we have to give you a warning for spamming.

There is a balance of national sovereignty and individual sovereignty that needs to be made. If everyone has complete individual sovereignty, we will end up being a bunch of anarchistic states. On the other hand, no individual sovereignty would smack of totalitarianism. Where that line lies may vary as a matter of opinion for different member states and that's the real question. For us, the two go hand in hand and while we do support mandating Habeas Corpus on an international scale, we do not believe that its implementation should be micromanaged by the World Assembly.

Ideally, the purpose of nation-state governments is to protect individual sovereignty from infringement by others, rather than to infringe on that sovereignty themselves. For example, it is right for a member state to criminalize assault. This is not an infringement of the would-be assaulter's individual sovereignty; it is a protection of the individual sovereignty of the potential victim of assault from infringement by another. This reasoning refers specifically to violent offenses, but applies equally to certain non-violent offenses such as fraud.

However, some nation-state governments actually infringe upon individual sovereignty themselves, rather than protect that sovereignty, and such cases are where this Assembly must intervene.

Ambassador Flibble, and other members of this assembly;

Perhaps I may be so bold as to offer an explanation for the Orlean ambassador's bemusing antics. He does not understand the mechanics of ambassadorship in this Assembly. I am attempting to rectify that lacuna of knowledge, as I am currently in private communication with him. Should he agree, I shall be mentoring him on how best to act as an ambassador in these halls.

It would seem that the Quelashi delegation feels their standard "it was repealed, we'll just immediately submit a new one" tactic will suffice once again, it will be interesting to see whether the drafting skills of the author shall be required again.

I'd like to hope that that won't come to pass. However, I am keeping both of my repeal drafts (for this and for the Double Jeopardy Act) on stand-by should they prove necessary.

However, I'd prefer to not be semi-artificially inflating my passed resolution count by re-repealing the same faulty pieces of legislation over and over again. I hope that this time, the Assembly shall show greater wisdom than they did when these proposals were first submitted.

Please read the list of changes at the beginning of the new proposal thread to see which four of the seven points no longer apply (protip: "prohibiting" misinterpretation, illegal immigration, quarantine, and pre-trial detention for crimes not punishable by detention no longer apply; detention of children, detention of drunk people, and "exceptional circumstances" still apply, though those arguments are wrongheaded).

You could also just listen to all the criticisms that are being made of your resolution rather than going through a dozen rounds of repeals. What I see here is an assembly that wants Habeas Corpus but that keeps reaffirming that the Quelesh resolutions are deeply flawed. By refusing to take into account all of the criticisms, Quelesh is just dragging out this process even longer.

I share the hope of the previous speakers that the WA Electorate will vote down new Quelesh resolutions on this topic immediately.

Ms Yadoru;

As of now, I have received instructions from my Department for Foreign Affairs, expressely instructing me to withdraw all recognition of your current Government and all persons who work in their employ. This means that I am hereby withdrawing all recognition of you, and your ambassadorial team as well as your national Government. This is in line with current national policy towards Quelesh. We further state that all Queleshi persons who inter our nation will be classed as illegal immigrants - regardless of whether they have the proper paperwork - and will be detained indefinitely.

We withdraw this recognition because of Queleshi obstinacy regarding receiving criticism of her proposals. This withdrawal of recognition is also due to the deplorable habit of the Ambassador to ignore toehrs and submit her resolutions without consultation first -as is meant to happen!
