Capital of Culture : Applications

Postby Susinia » Mon Jan 10, 2011 9:48 am

[Out Of Character]
I recently noticed that there isn't a thread about being a capital of culture, so I decided to set one up. I will announce my decision on February 2nd

[In Character]
Dear nations around the world,
The Royal House of Susinia would like to announce that they will be holding the first ever Capital of Culture. This is an esteemed honour to have been awarded but be warned that this will only be given to the best candidate. The city of culture will be determined based on this criteria:

Amount of theatres, art galleries, museums and restaraunts per person
-the amount of these infrastructures per person must be stated. An obsessive amount is just as bad as an inadequate anount. A happy-medium should have been maintained.
-if a nation has three of the above but not any of the fourth, then they will not qualify to become a capital of culture.

Quality of such infrastructures.
-the quality of these infrastructures and there services must be graded out of five BY AN INDEPENDENT SOURCE and this must be clearly stated in the bid.
-five would be the best rating of a service, one would be totally inadequate.

Events that have been staged in your city
-the more culturally orientated the events the better.
-a city would be more likely to be accepted if they have a balance of the genre of the events, as to suit the maximum amount of people.

In addition, the applicant must be a city and cannot be a capital city of a nation. Please also include the name of the bid council and their positions and also, if applicable, their logo and slogan etc.

Your application must include
Full nation name:
Name of city applying for culture capital:
Image / Picture of city:
Nickname of city (if applicable):
Bidding Team:
Logo and slogan of bidding team (if applicable):
Amount of theatres per person:
Amount of museums per person:
Amount of art galleries per person:
Amount of restaraunts per person:
Rating of theatres:
Rating of museums:
Rating of art galleries:
Rating of restaraunts:
Events that have been held in the city in the past (the more detail the better):
Size of city:
Transport details (accesibility, variety, routes etc.):
Hotel details (pricing, variety, accesibility, usage etc.):

We wish all cities good luck and the best for their individual bids.

Rating of museums: 4.9 out of 5
The museums are of top-quality on the city and I have found fact after fact about the city's (and the country's) rich history. The diversity of the museums in the city is phenomonal, with everything from wars, to the royals to the environment. Fantastic!

I really enjoyed exploring the three art galleries the city has to offer, one specialising in modern art, one in recycled art and one in animation. They are well maintained and the works they contain are fantastic. AIRA is so good, I would compare it to the Louvre!

Amount of people per theater: 39
Amount of people per museum: 41
Amount of people per art gallery: 43
Amount of people per restaurant: 15
Rating of theatres: 4.5 out of 10
Just went to the Okada Theater where the play "The Orphan of Bulsang Street was being performed, and the quality was excellent, and the theater was very well maintained. The play was just excellently performed, everything was just perfect and there were tears in everyone's eyes (including myself) after the play was over. The theater has recently been very modernized, with a great look. I give the theater and the play performed 5 stars out of 5.
Danny Park, editor for the SA Times

Rating of museums: 4.7 out of 5
Well I was at the West Museum last Saturday, and I will just say that I was just dazed and absolutely amazed. There were many things I learned, and saw many cultural treasures and artifacts of Arumdaum's past, along with many foreign treasures from nations such as Vuongquoc, Kagetora, and Stoklomolvi that were taken from war. The first musical records, and everything.... The entire museum is also shaped as an ancient palace! It was amazing, I'm hoping to visit again soon.
Vanessa Ming, visitor to the West Museum

Rating of art galleries: 4.9 out of 5
I've been to many of the city's just beautiful and grand galleries, but I would have to say that the Modern Art Gallery was the best. It was filled with just... to simply put it, pure genius. Ranging from simple shapes to the most complex things you have ever seen, everything was just full of awe. I felt like I had been enlightened, and it inspired me to start painting my own paintings. My dream is to one day get one of my paintings in National Art Gallery.
Moon Plant, Painter

Rating of restaurants: 5 out of 5
I was at Santa Amarilla the other day, to attend a concert, and I will have to say that the food was just amazing. I've been here many times before, and every restaurant is just absolutely AMAZING! There's lots of different types of food. I think though that Veggie House is just the best restaurant ever. Everything is vegan. No milk, cheese, meat, or any of that shit. I probably gained a few pounds on that day. Anyways, I hope to go there again, I loved the experience.
Nathan Park, drummer

Events that have been held in the city in the past (the more detail the better): Many music concerts are held throughout the year, with the annual Funkiwompa Festival being the largest music festival in all of Otcina, and drawing in music fans from all over the world. Surf contests are also frequently held due to Calibuena's (the region which Santa Amarilla is in) excellent and famous beaches and Santa Amarilla's having one of the best surf in Arumdaum. The city is fully supportive of the arts, (mainly modern ones), and also has baseball, football, and basketball stadiums. Fusion food contests are also held annually held to see who can make the best fusion food, giving SA one of the most diverse and delicious food in all of Arumdaum. The AMTV Music Awards and Arumdaun Film Festival also takes place in Santa Amarilla, and there is also an annual gay pride parade in the city.
Size of city: City Pop: 11,105,398 ; Metropolitan Area: 41,296,190
Transport details (accesibility, variety, routes etc.): Subway, bullet train, buses which are free for those under 21 and those over 60, old tram and new tram system (old one being a cultural treasure), two airports.
Hotel details (pricing, variety, accesibility, usage etc.): From cheap to expensive, most are in the downtown area, and near the airports. There are many natural hot springs and spa resorts about an hour's drive from SA International Airport.
Diversity of citizens in the city: Santa Amartilla tends to be a bit more racially diverse than the rest of Calibuena. 31% Arumdaumin, 16% White, 15% Latino, 13% Black, 12% Kagetorian, 5% Vietnamese, 2% Stelimov, 2% Filipino, 4% Other

Nah, crime rate and safety concerns don't really make your city more cultural place. Graffiti and that kind of stuff actually helps culture I think.

Meh, I'd gladly reply too but the cities in my nation aren't really the "capitol" of culture; sure there's a fair bit of culture but not enough to compete with the others.

If someone is going to ask the details of the hotels and how easily accessible the city is, then I would assume that there will be people from other parts the respective country and the world who will be going to that particular city. Now, in judging the capacity that a city has to accept visitors, I think it would also be beneficial to take into account possible problems and safety concerns for the visitors of that city.

OOC: This is about culture, not tourism. They're two different things. Also when does the thing start?

OOC: Because hotel details and transportation totally have to do with a city's culture. It's really not that big a deal, it's was a suggestion.

Okay, so we all know that Adama is the Capital of Culture for 2011. I would also like to award Uykesht a city in Padullahstan the second prize and the title of Secondary Culture Capital. I'm going to be doing a 2012 capital of culture, but shall open the sign ups a lot earlier to give more people a chance. The thread should be up by April :)!
