[AT VOTE] Repeal "Injunct Realm of the Whispering Winds"

Postby Skiva » Wed Apr 10, 2024 3:59 pm

Welcome back to the disaster in the Security Council that is the Realm of the Whispering Winds! In todays episode, we're tearing down the Injunction due to a myriad of reasons-- most notably being the fact that it directly inhibits our plan to get a governor. I've read it over and don't see any illegalities, though my eyes are not very trained in that regard so please do tell if you notice one.

The timeframe for the proposal will be a good ways off due to the queue being stuffed, but no matter when we submit there will be precautions in place to prevent another bout of SC proposals. I'm as tired of these as you are.

As for the proposal itself, something feels a little off to me, especially towards the end. If you have any suggestions to improve, I'm all ears. Thank you!
The current (second) draft is below.
Understanding that throughout the ever growing ocean, few ships have suffered as much devastation as the Realm of the Whispering Winds, hereby referred to as “the Realm”,

Recounting the story of the Realm as one filled with joyous plunder, yet marked by the tragic disappearance of Captain Halcyon Nova, ultimately culminating into skeleton crews and, in turn, repeated seizings of the ship,

Excited by the dedication of Captain Xvraks, resulting in a fierce desire to see the revitalization of the Realm coupled with a return to dominance over the high seas,

Gladdened by the manifestation of said desire in the form of Security Council Resolution #498, which, upon passing, would allow the crew to safely refurbish the ship,

Despaired by the fraudulent use of Security Council Resolution #498 by malignant forces, deftly evading capture by exploiting hidden vulnerabilities within the resolution, cementing the unfortunate circumstance of the Realm for the foreseeable future,

Grimacing at the failure to evict the boarding parties, prompting the passing of Security Council Resolution #499, thereby preventing the potential marooning of the Realm,

Groaning at the passage of Security Council Resolution #500 in an act of benevolence deemed necessary by friendly navies, yet contrary to the wishes of the native buccaneers,

Enthused at the abandonment of the ship by the nefarious interlopers, allowing for Xvraks to reclaim the title of Captain of the Realm of the Whispering Winds,

Cognizant that Security Council Resolution #500 prevents the permanent ascendancy of Xvraks to the position of Captain, inhibiting the safety of the Realm for generations of pirates to come,

Hereby repeals “Injunct Realm Of The Whispering Winds.”
Understanding that throughout the ever growing ocean, few ships have suffered as much devastation as the Realm of the Whispering Winds, hereby referred to as “the Realm”,

Recounting the story of the Realm as one filled with tragedy, starting with the disappearance of Captain Halcyon Nova and followed by repeated bordings of the ship, resulting in an increasing stagnation of the Realm, resulting in a skeleton crew,

Excited by the dedication of Captain Xvraks, resulting in a fierce desire to see the revitalization and joyous return of the Realm to dominance over the waters, which necessitated a brief retirement of the ship from the ocean,

Gladdened by the manifestation of said desire in the form of Security Council Resolution #498, which, upon passing, would allow the crew to safely refurbish the ship,

Despaired by the fraudulent use of Security Council Resolution #498 by a pack of wolves and a rival crew, resulting in yet another occupation of the Realm of the Whispering Winds,

Grimacing at the failure of evicting the boarding parties from the ship by foreign navies, resulting in the passing of Security Council Resolution #499, which prevented the potential marooning of the Realm,

Groaning at the passage of Security Council Resolution #500, contrary to the wishes of the crew, in an act of benevolence deemed necessary by the intervening navies,

Enthused by the reclamation of the Realm following the jumping ship of the boarding parties, allowing for Xvraks to reclaim the title of Captain of the Realm of the Whispering Winds,

Cognizant that Security Council Resolution #500 prevents the permanent ascendancy of Xvraks to the position of Captain, thereby inhibiting the safety of the Realm for generations of pirates to come,

Hereby repeals “Injunct Realm Of The Whispering Winds.”

I haven't spent much time writing SC resolutions so I can't really help you with the flow, but you might wanna fix the region tags on the Enthused line.

Full support, obviously. I had a look back at your RMB history recently and your region has a really fun vibe, I hope this helps you focus on that again.

Damn, that's a PAAAINFULLYYYY long resolution for a repeal!
Like, please, get to the point! You only need a few of these declarations to get to repeal an injunction, friend.
Generally, you don't need all that worldbuilding - RotWW is still a region like all others. Upon further review, I've seen you have made many resolutions of this style before. My condolences.
Overall, I agree, but you should really shorten and resume the resolution. Stick to 2-7 declarations. We all prefer a short, resumed, formal and understandable resolution.

Ah, a nation that has posted twice in the SC forum is now an expert on how long a repeal should be.

To the OP - full support of course, but it does need some work. The flow isn’t quite there, but you have a bit of time to be able to work on it, the SC queue being stuffed as it is.

I will try and do a full review in the next couple of days.

Edit: by the way as far as I can see the draft is legal.

Fully agree with the flow being off. With the help of rested eyes, I've spotted some trouble spots that I overlooked yesterday. Unsure if I'll be able to get a second draft up today as it is opening night for the school play, but I'll be working on it where I can to (hopefully) fix the flow.

Skiva wrote:Understanding that throughout the ever growing ocean, few ships have suffered as much devastation as the Realm of the Whispering Winds, hereby hereafter referred to as “the Realm”,

Suggested change from “hereby” to “hereafter”.

Skiva wrote:Recounting the story of the Realm as one filled with tragedy, starting with the disappearance of Captain Halcyon Nova and followed by repeated bordings boardings of the ship, resulting in an increasing stagnation of the Realm, resulting in a skeleton crew,

Repetitive use of “resulting”. Correction of typo.

Skiva wrote:Excited by the dedication of Captain Xvraks, resulting in a fierce desire to see the revitalization and joyous return of the Realm to dominance over the waters, which necessitated a brief retirement of the ship from the ocean,

“Resulting” again. The section highlighted in blue doesn’t make much sense on its own - needs either more explanation or removal.

Skiva wrote:Gladdened by the manifestation of said desire in the form of Security Council Resolution #498, which, upon passing, would allow the crew to safely refurbish the ship,

Fine.

Skiva wrote:Despaired by the fraudulent use of Security Council Resolution #498 by a pack of wolves and a rival crew pirates, resulting in yet another occupation of the Realm of the Whispering Winds,

I think my correction reads better.

Skiva wrote:Grimacing at the failure of evicting to evict the boarding parties from the ship by foreign friendly navies, resulting in the passing of Security Council Resolution #499, which prevented the potential marooning of the Realm,

Couple of changes suggested. Please don’t overuse resulting.

Skiva wrote:Groaning at the passage of Security Council Resolution #500, contrary to the wishes of the crew, in an act of benevolence deemed necessary by the intervening navies fleets,

Minor change suggested.

Skiva wrote:Enthused by the reclamation of the Realm following the jumping abandonment of the ship of the boarding parties by the interlopers, allowing for Xvraks to reclaim the title of Captain of the Realm of the Whispering Winds,

Some more suggested changes.

Skiva wrote:Cognizant that Security Council Resolution #500 prevents the permanent ascendancy of Xvraks to the position of Captain, thereby inhibiting the safety of the Realm for generations of pirates sailors to come,

Hereby repeals “Injunct Realm Of The Whispering Winds.”

I’ve changed “pirates”to “sailors”, as I’ve already suggested “pirates” for TWPAF, but you may wish to use another phrase to describe the residents. Scurvy knaves perhaps?

Might I suggest blackguards/blaggards? It's a delightful word that doesn't get used much.

Reworked the draft a bit! Cut some bits, incorporated some suggestions, and rewrote some sections entirely. The end result still feels a little bit lacking in certain areas, but I wanted to get more sets of eyes seeing as how I completely missed some major flaws in the last draft.

One specific concern that I'd appreciate feedback on is the ending. To me, the Cognizant clause does not complete the argument for a repeal, causing a sudden ending that isn't particularly strong. Curious to hear other thoughts on this!

Once this injunction is repealed, are we going to get another one by some defenders in the near future? Or perhaps we repeal the liberation, then there's another libjunction followed by the same repeal loop?
