A song about the yearning for peace in a war-torn country. This does indeed seem patriotic and hopeful, but the lack of a tune somewhat lowers the score.

Rating:
7/10.

New Temecula's national anthem is the opposite of Arzastan's. That's because it has an instrumental, but no lyrics. Also, I made it myself! <(^<^)>

First of all, the song sounds really good and it's really catchy. It gives off a very relaxing vibe in my view. You've chosen instruments that complement each other well, you've written some nice melodies and harmonised them well, and you've kept some consistent motifs throughout the piece. Its length is also quite impressive at 3 minutes. And as will be pretty evident by the inactivity of this thread, the fact that you have an anthem at all is commendable; let alone one that 1. has music 2. isn't a song taken from real life and 3. isn't some AI slop. So it's already outstanding by NS standards.

But. The two elephants in the room. Firstly, it doesn't sound very much like an anthem, does it? I see that a commenter on BandLab has also noted this. You respond by saying that it's inspired by the Tibetan anthem. Although I recognise the similarities in serenity, I believe that the key distinction between the two is that the Tibetan one is composed with traditional instruments in a traditional style, a common enough theme for national anthems. On the other hand, Song of the Sun doesn't sound like anything traditional anywhere, let alone the location of New Temecula. It just sounds like a modern pop song - neither traditional nor anthem-like in the European/Communist styles. It may instill a bright attitude for a New Temeculan starting their day, but not so much a patriotic attitude for a New Temeculan soldier in battle (or a sports player in an international tournament if you're pacifistic like that).

And the second elephant. As you note, there aren't any lyrics! I know that some anthems like Spain's don't have lyrics, and I might by somewhat willing to accept a pop-style song as an anthem, but a pop-style song without lyrics? Preposterous. I feel that it really itches for some vocals to be added. Without them, the song just sounds like some corporate tunes for a commercial or something.

So, in summary: great song (far beyond my expectations of NS), but I'm not entirely convinced that it is suitable as an anthem. I'd give it a 8/10 on its music, a 2/10 for its sensibility, and maybe overall a 6/10.

For BN (if such exists): Grand Britanny's anthem is "Britannia" in this factbook and you can listen to it here. You may want to consult this factbook for unfamiliar words.

Woah. That's pretty great!

The melody, while simple, would sound very bold and defiant if it was played by a Grand orchestra. The lyrics are simple and easy to sing along too, while maintaining a sense of important and validity.

I quite like it! If you made the melody yourself, you have exceptional talent! Great work! 9/10

BN, here: https://www.nationstates.net/nation=lyc ... id=1980058

The lyrics are there and there is a vocal cover of yours truly at the bottom of the page. I'm not a musician so don't expect anything exceptional. Thanks! (Pleass don't one line me)

Well the Anthem is great, and same about the melody, just some little problems: first, why all of the Anthem is English except one santza?
And second, if Lycantine is "barely space-faring" why the anthem is all about rockets? Also, The anthem is more ideological(technocrat) than nationalist/patriotic, but many anthems are like this (example: official Anthem of Iran, Anthem of Soviet union, etc) so I wouldn't call that a problem. But Overall, it's beautiful so I'd give it a 7/10.
I think you already know that my flag isn't Italy or Mexico, right?

This is an awesome anthem. I can see that it rhymes very well from the transliterations, and the translations give me a sense of the beautiful meaning of the poetry. It fits very well with the themes of Arzastan as an ancient but wartorn nation, and does a good job in promoting patriotic sentiment. I even feel kind of proud to be Arzenese! :p My favourite lines are "oh the reason of my tears, I wish you will be relieved" and "no matter if we worship Mithra or if we worship rivers". I also appreciate that there are three versions of the song, each in a different language while still retaining a similar meaning and keeping a rhyming pattern. I'm pretty sure they're all conlangs, which makes this even more impressive.

I will have to deduct at least one point for the lack of a melody, but that's it. 9/10.

5/10; pretty average. I think it is fine, a little more like a patriotic war song than a national anthem, but who am I to judge? I wouldn’t use the F-bomb tho, kinda puts a tamper on the mode. A little too short as well, I feel like it could have been stretched out a bit more. But overall I like it.

8.5/10 I have no ide how someone would sing it but it's original! And it would fit perfectly before sports matches, TV programs, etc.

The title was exactly the kind of thing I expected, based on your flag. The opening lyrics had me immediately thinking of "Do You Hear The People Sing?" from "Les Misérables" - a similar melody would likely suit it well (edit to add: I noticed later that it's supposed to be set to that tune). It's well composed and not too long, patriotic, and calls to a proud past while also leading the charge into a bright future. An ideal mix -8/10

"The Rivers Flow with the Perspiration of Honest Toil" is in need of a melody at the moment, but you can find the lyrics (and a little history) here.

9/10 It's nice that it speaks about the wealth of your nation; very patriotic. Probably the only downside was the lack of melody.

I quite like "Voyage of Destiny". First of all, it rhymes and roughly matches the rhythm of its melody, which is always a plus. I quite like the melody, and it seems fitting for a song composed in the near future. The lyrics are nice, and I like the recurring metaphor of maritime and astronomical voyages, but overall I feel like it is a bit generic. Like if you switch "Saelmstica" with any other futuristic space nation it would probably still work well as an anthem; it doesn't seem to refer to any particular part of Saelmstican history, culture, etc, save maybe some vague connections to oceans and space.

Each verse seems to say roughly the same thing, just mixing up the concepts of stars, seas, unity, and progress. It feels like what you'd get from ChatGPT if you asked it to "Write a national anthem for the Stellar Marine Commonwealth of Saelmstica, a futuristic spacefaring nation built on principles of harmony and progress."; that is, verbose buzzword slop with no real message or direction. I dunno. I just think I wouldn't be very patriotically proud after listening to this as a Saelmstican. Then again, maybe Saelmstica wants to move beyond national chauvinism in which case this song would be rather fitting.

Still, I'd recommend adding some more specific references in the anthem. I think the three big things that anthems usually reference in detail are 1. landscape/geography 2. history 3. religion. Maybe a 4th one could be politics and government too. I think you do already allude to some geographical and historical features in the lyrics, but ultimately, as I said, they are too generic to have any meaningful significance. And also the line "the torch pass to us" seems to be grammatically incorrect; I think it should be "the torches pass to us", "the torch passes to us", or "the torch passed to us". But, overall, this is a pretty good anthem, especially relative to other NS anthems, even though I spent a lot of words nitpicking it. I'd give it a 7 out of 10.
