XX.XX.2023 | ISSUE NUMBER 1

Assassination, parties and who is behind them

We talked to a member of the I.S.S and how they have observed the situation

As many of you may be aware of the current climate within Indianapolisia, The previous Arch Duchess Lioletta first of her name, was sadly assassinated. This came after Indianapolisia was accepted as observer status within the League of Nations within Violetia. While the culprits are yet to be apprehended, the I.S.S. (Internal Security Service) Looks for leads as to who committed the heinous crime against the young Duchess; who was only 38 at the time of her assassination. There are several ideas that the I.S.S gave to us in an exclusive interview. The agent that we talked to said there seemingly is several factions within the upper class royalty. Most of which can be boiled down to 4 main groups.

The Conservatives
The Conservatives of Indianapolisia have a mix of small groups that are very strict in how they wish to see the nation progress, favoring the economy to be self sufficient and closed off from the world as best as can be, only interfering with the rest of the region when it is absolutely necessary. Mind you these groups are not the same as the militants, in which we will get to shortly but they do have similar ties. The Conservatives are most popular within the Ecclesiarchy, some counties in the North of the Duchy, and some Industrialists. We recently did a survey after the interview to see where the average member of the nobility lies within the issues of isolationism; it seems most (67%) wish to stay out of the League of Nations and only talk to foreigners when trade is involved. While the agent we talked to said he could not tell us any names that are believed to be apart of it, we can infer a few of them based on the outspoken cries and pleads to keep the nation closed off from the rest of the world. A few would include:

Duchess Lorraine of Etyler

The Militants
The Militant faction within the government is of course in some ways similar to the Conservatives favoring strict social and societal traditions and investing within the military. But unlike The Conservatives, The Militants seek expansionism, they wish to use the budget that they were given to make the nation larger and were rather neutral to the League of Nations but would prefer to keep the status of an Observer state or a non member state. Militants are very popular with of course the military, but surprisingly enough many of the young males within the nation. The prevailing theory is that with the changing of the politics withing Indianapolisia that groups are trying to gain power, and the military has on average the easiest time as all young men over the age of 17 must be conscripted and trained, then those that wish to stay have the choice. Otherwise the rest of the men are put in reserve and called in once a year for training exercises. That ends when the man is 40 in which he is given a small pension for the rest of their life. Beyond that The Militant groups are at the moment docile, and have a neutral opinion on the current status of the government. But some of the probable members of this group would be:

The Liberals
The Liberal faction within the nation is not an easy one to talk about, as they seek for the Arch Duke to relinquish power to the people, dismantling the round table and at best keeping the Arch Duke title as nothing more than ceremoniously, pushing for an end to isolationism, freer economic policies and allowing people to immigrate into Indianapolisia. While however they did seem to react positively to the hearing of Applying for Observer status within the League of Nations, the few outspoken liberals still do not believe it to be enough, instead believing that it's just a step in the right direction. It is hard to get much more information on this group as they have been driven mostly underground by Ex Arch Duchess Lioletta and her desires to crack down on dissent and freedoms of speech claiming "These individuals while meaning well do not understand the implications of what it is they seek." But as far as we are aware The Liberals have a tendency to be more popular with the disheveled members of the Duchy, which includes the serfdom. Some of the outspoken members that still are around are:

The Internationalists
The Internationalist group is a bit of an oddball when talking about major political factions. They seek of course opening to the outside world, but seek to increase economic superiority amongst the region, favoring innovation, immigration and expansionism to become a protector for the region. Those that favor this group are the main oddity in the sense that there are those that support this group from the lowest Serfs to the highest of the Nobility, rumors are that a member of the round table is apart of this strange and uncertain group. It seems they are the ones that have the least amount of actual power due to their inability to communicate with ease like many of the previous examples as there is not one large group. Beyond what they stand for and how odd they are we do not have much information on the group nor do we have any potential members on hand that we can infer upon...

Who could have done it?
While there are many potential suspects who could have killed the previous ruler, the main 2 that they believe could have done such a horrid act upon the nation is either The Liberals or The Conservatives. There are several reasons why either faction may wish harm upon the person they swear fealty to... In the case of the Liberals they are outspoken anti monarchists, that some extremists within the faction would possibly enjoy sewing the chaos within the monarchy to perhaps show the weaknesses of it, or maybe they simply wished to get a more impressionable leader that can make the change necessary to achieve their political goals. In the case of the Conservatives, the move to become an observer state within the League of Nations was a controversial and upsetting move. One that could let in spies and those that seek the destruction of the Duchy. It could also be due to the outspoken willingness to move the social constructs by pushing for women to do more jobs than just the ones they have right now... The latest news regarding the Royal Family have rumbled through the Kingdom of Firnea like thunder on the horizon, as it has officially been confirmed that Queen Saga I (19) has decided to relinquish the crown in favor of her younger sister, Skadi IV (13), and act as an advisor to her, with rumors that Skadi, who has mostly been shielded from the public might, in fact, be a child prodigy of sorts, intensifying massively.

"Princess Saga has decided not to comment on the matter for the time being", says Galmar Sigurdsson (41), speaker of the Emerald Palace. "We will guide the honored Queen-aspirant Skadi to greatness for her to be able to guide Firnea into prosper and peaceful days."

The coronation ceremony is expected to take place in the Emerald Place in two weeks from now, with royalty from all over the world being invited to the festivities.

"Mind over matter" military deal with Lunapoli imminent

Firnean Administrator of Defense, Lara Jenne Harbak (38), has reportedly met with Lunapolitan Empress Chiara II to sign a considerable military deal that provides Lunapolitan with CPUs and tech to support their missile shield and automated weapon systems. In return, the Lunapolitan government will supply Firnea with heavy military equipment, including tanks and artillery.

Experts have been quoted to rate the deal "reasonable both logically and geographically", seeing as how Firnea is considered to be one of the leading nations worldwide in terms of computer tech while Lunapoli has both the knowledge, as well as the resources to help ensure Firnea's protection in the eastern seas.

"We are striving for peaceful times, and yet, we are aware of the fact that, to our disdain, there are nations in the world that may disagree with a peaceful approach to geopolitics", Harbak said during an interview. "We hope for peaceful times, and that we may never be forced to make use of the equipment we've received. However, we will rather be safe than sorry."

Phoenix Bellamy re-signs with Raventide City until 2024

Strange Signals

Antique Radios Sing Across the World

Owners of antique radios across the world wake up to these once long dead artifacts roaring to life. Old radios, many of which have not been turned on in years, all simultaneously began playing at the same time. Reports have stated that the radios are playing a distorted form of 1930s Jazz. Periodically, throughout the distortion, there are muffled sounds of two men, one of them is screaming in pain, and the other humming a faint tune. It is unclear the meaning of the broadcasts nor the motive of them, however what is clear is that the epicenter of it is in Northwestern Lūdīsvija.

Lūdīsvijic authorities have begun investigating the source of this broadcast, however nothing has been found thus far. It is uncertain how they were able to access the radios or broadcast out as far as they did. The broadcasts have left many unsettled and resulted in many people trying to sell, or destroy, their antique radios to ensure they do not hear it again.

Sacha Nationalism

Die Falangistische Rapidly Rising in the Polls

Sacha nationalism has always been a potent force in Lūdīsvijic politics ever since they took power in a coup in 1929. Among most of the people of Lūdīsvija, Sacha nationalism is seen as extremely toxic and dangerous to the stability and existence of Lūdīsvijic democracy. Recently, since the election, Die Falangistische a Falangist and Sacha nationalist party, and the successor to the Schwarze Legion who ruled over Germany from 1929-1945, has surged in the polls increasing their position by six points, over doubling their support since the 2022 elections. With this substantial increase, they have surpassed the Christian Democratic Party coming into 5th place. While such a position does not seem like a lot on the surface, it does represent the largest amount of support for fascism in Lūdīsvija since the occupation ended in 1950.

There have been several attempts for the Lūdīsvijic Constitutional Court to ban the party however attempts thus far have all failed. Since the recent polls have been released there have been over 490 national and local lawsuits against the party requesting the nation's court to finally remove Die Falangistische from the ballot. Over 60 suits have already been dismissed due to insufficient standing however there are some cases that have the potential to go forward.

Augustia, New Toola - Prime Minister Beverly Vane, joined by New Toolan Ambassador to the League of Nations Martin Adebayo and Foreign Affairs Minister Grant Turnbull, announced the establishment of a new effort by New Toola to foster international science cooperation. Speaking to an audience of dignitaries and foreign service officers, the Prime Minister outlined the Forward, Together initiative launched by her government to bring scientific cooperation to the forefront of the wider international community. Acceleration in scientific knowledge has given way to significant changes in the lives of people all across the globe. That acceleration has also given way to fundamental questions about the nature and ethics of scientific and technological progress that remain unanswered in a cohesive and unified way.

The initiative is expected to be spearheaded by Ambassador Adebayo within the League of Nations. A rising star within the United Conservative Party since his appointment in 2021, the first Native Toolan to assume the role, Adebayo is seen by many as a potential future successor to the Prime Minister. Topeakan City Council Meeting Devolves into Chaos After Native Toolan Concerns Ignored In Favor of New Commercial Development

Commercial development expected to disproportionately impact Native Toolan neighborhoods

Topeakan, New Toola - The weekly meeting of the Topeakan City Council devolved into chaos as law enforcement and protestors clashed in response to the approval of a commercial development project that critics claim will disproportionately impact the city's Native Toolan population. In a 5-1 decision, the Topeakan City Council voted in favor of the new development contract in the eastern portion of the city expected to increase traffic and risk gentrification in predominantly Native Toolan areas. Protests erupted within the city council chamber gallery following the conclusion of the vote. City council members and attending local MPs were reportedly escorted out of the chamber by law enforcement.

Topeakan is regarded by many as the most heavily impacted city by previous racial discrimination practices that continued until the 1930's in New Toola. Rapid development in New Toola following independence in 1867 was not felt equally between the Native Toolan and New Toolan populations. Topeakan, the major city on the island of Erékùṣù was strongly impacted by its sharply divided population. Racial discrimination laws passed under Nationalist Governments were deeply ingrained in New Toolan society until the election of the Progressive-Labor Party in 1924 that marked the electoral demise of the Nationalist Party as a major party in New Toolan politics. Subsequent Progressive-Labor and United Conservative governments began the repealing of existing racial discrimination laws at various paces, concluding with the repeal of the National Zoning Law Act of 1914 that was infamous for enforcing racial red lining in major New Toolan cities.

Despite some progress in recent years, it isn't shocking to see the same Topeakan City Council that voted 1-5 against a citizen's advisory committee for law enforcement in 2022 vote for commercial development that impacts Native Toolans negatively. Protestors and law enforcement have seen flair-ups of direct clashes, with some community leaders expressing outrage over the lack of regard for Native Toolans and other community leaders standing by law enforcement and the commercial development, citing statistics indicating the positive growth it is expected to have. Topeakan Mayor Timothy Bradford and Prime Minister Beverly Vane have both called for calm in the wake of recent clashes.

Frankly, I'm unsurprised. I'm the only elected city councilor on this board that voted against this measure because time and time again, this city council fails the interests of the community. They cite statistics that show growth but growth for who? I am beyond tired of hearing excuses from my fellow council members as to why they cave time and time again to corporate interests. ADRIAN VICTORIS APPOINTED NEW PARTY MINISTER

Former Chairman of the Public Service Commission, Adrian Victoris has been appointed as the new Party Minister by the President of the State Council, Elesha Gustauf on this Tuesday. Victoris' appointment, coming in the wake of the arrest of the previous party minister, Dr. R. S. Huxley, has come as a surprise to many observers. The former minister was arrested under charges of sedition for his role in the recent riots that took place in the Capital.

Victoris is an experienced hand in the party, having served as the chairman of the Public Service Commission, which is responsible for hiring, transferring, and dismissing public servants at all levels of government. His experience will certainly come in handy as the country recovers from the recent events, but it is not known whether his tenure will be limited to a period of transition.

President Gustauf had this to say: "I have appointed Adrian Victoris, the current Chairman of the Public Service Commission, because I trust his abilities, and I believe he will be able to help us restore the unity and stability of the nation."

"I thank the President for his confidence in me," said Victoris. "It is my greatest honor to serve the nation as the Party Minister. I will work with the President to ensure that we return to the path of peace and prosperity."

The former Party Minister, R. S. Huxley had resigned from his position on April 14th after the riots took place. He was later arrested and charged with sedition.

However, it is not clear if the charges will stick or not. A court trial is set to begin in May, and it is likely that Huxley will be granted bail until then.

The Party Minister is the second most powerful member of the State Council, behind the President. He is responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of the government machinery and keeping the President informed about the day-to-day operations of the state.

Adrian is currently the youngest Party Minister, having been appointed at the age of 45. This makes him the second-youngest person to ever serve in this position.

He is a graduate of the National University of Lakiras and has a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Vespera. He was previously a senior executive at the Vespera Financial Corporation and is a well-known philanthropist and social activist.

RELIGIOUS VIOLENCE OCCURS IN THE FLÜBHELM PROVINCE

Religious violence occurred last week in the Flübhelm Province, resulting in the deaths of three people. According to the authorities, a group of protesters broke into a local synagogue, where they were confronted by a group of armed men.

In the ensuing clash, five protesters were killed and another six were injured. The police were called in and managed to disperse the crowd. There have been no reports of further violence since then, but the situation remains tense.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon in the city of Schwarzenstein, where a large crowd had gathered outside the local synagogue. When the crowd started chanting anti-Aldeisme and anti-Semitic slogans, a group of armed men appeared and began attacking the protesters.

Police arrived on the scene and tried to stop the violence, but they were unsuccessful. The situation only worsened when a number of police officers were injured during the fight.

The local Aldeist bishop has condemned the attack and called for calm. He has urged the authorities to take action against those responsible for the violence.
In response, the local Aldissian Province Council issued a statement condemning the attack and calling for peace and harmony in the region.

This is not the first time that religious violence has occurred in the Flübhelm Province. Last month, a group of anti-Semites attacked a local synagogue, resulting in the death of one person and the injury of three others.
The situation is especially tense due to the recent outbreak of religious violence across the country. On April 27, 2022, a man was shot dead while he was walking down the street.

There have also been several attacks on Jewish communities, including a grenade attack on a synagogue in the city of Zell.

In response, the national government has pledged to step up efforts to combat religious violence and ensure the safety of all citizens.

However, it remains to be seen whether these measures will be effective in the long run.

End of an Era: The Last Love Hotel Closes

In a rural mountain village in Grand Mangata province, there stands the last of a kind. In the 1920s’ the creation of Love Hotels became commonplace across the country. Especially in rural areas. At their peak in the 1960’s 8,000 of these Love Hotels stood. These Love Hotels were created by Lana Delmar in 1921 as a place for young adults to be romantic out of the prying eyes and opinions of parents and older adults.

Author Jamerson Monroe of “Life and Death of Love Hotels” says, “You have to understand that before the progressive movements of the 1960’s and 1970’s, young adults in rural areas were married off by their parents. Not through choice of their own but by what was best for the family and the local church they attend. If you refused to get married to your parent’s choice, you were labeled as going against God and a disgrace to the family. Love Hotels were a place for those who didn’t want to get married off to explore through choice.The way Love Hotels worked was, you called the number or you went in person, you created a reservation for a night. When the night comes, you go to the hotel and get the room for the night. Many times people went alone and hoped to find a mate there. But, usually the couple would book the room together. To not cause suspicion, the two people were encouraged to not come together and come at different times. The hotel would host a dinner for all couples after sunset and a breakfast after sunrise. The couples were encouraged to get to know each other, talk to each other, and get to know each other in a romantic way.”

During the 1930’s and 1940’s Love Hotels were widely known and were often called Satan's Temple by religious and conservative individuals. In Urban Areas’s Love Hotels, while less common because of the more liberal attitudes in those cities towards love, were seen as annoyances. They were commonly used for prostitution, drug deals and usage, and even in a few causes murders. In the 1950’s and 1960’s tensions between the conservative and liberal ideals rose. During the 1960’s the divide reached a peak, often called the Youth Rebellion, causing great social change.

“The youth of the era now today’s conservative baby boomers, didn’t want to be controlled by the old traditions. The idea of going to church every Sunday and Wednesday, and getting married off to your parent’s choice wasn’t cool anymore. The idea of settling down with your family at age 20: the man works a 9-5 while the woman stays at home was seen as no longer necessary. The idea of not being able to vote until age 25 was especially unpopular, yet you are considered an adult at 18. The horrid idea of putting people in prison for being gay or cross dressing or committing adultery and in some rural areas people were put in prison for dating a person their parents or church didn’t like. Not being able to buy a house or a car until the age of 25 was just awful. We take all these things for granted today, but Westberg in prior to 1970 was a very conservative place. Even though Westberg during that time and still is today a democracy it really wasn’t for the young.”

In 1970 under intense political pressure the Prime Minister passed the Youth Freedom act. You could vote at 18, you could date whoever you wanted and didn’t need a parents or church’s permission. You could buy a house or car at 18 if you wanted to and of course had the money. Being a homsexual was decriminalized, women were given more favorable pay. And employers couldn’t fire people because they got divorced or in a relationship or married without permission, or were a woman or were gay.

With passage of the act, the Love Hotel saw the writing on the wall. Between 1971-1990 nearly all 8,000 Love Hotels closed down. Many of them switched to being a regular hotel or motel or they shut their doors and sold their property. Some lay abandoned and are being reclaimed by nature while others have turned into apartments or office space. By 1993, only 10 Love Hotels remained. On October 31, 1994, a former Love Hotel was transformed into an illegal rave spot for teenagers. The abandoned Love Hotel caught fire most likely from a stray cigarette bud. The Love Hotel lit ablaze with upto 163 rowdy teenagers inside, tragically 148 died in the fire and the later collapse of the building. Nationally the remaining abandoned Love Hotels were demolished following the tragedy.

In the following years the remaining love hotels closed, with the final holdout as of 2008. Oddly enough,the Love Hotel is owned by the great granddaughter of Lana Delmar, Kerry Delmar Holland. In 2009 the hotel transformed into part museum and a limited bed and breakfast. As of today, October 31, 2023 the final Love Hotel closed with the museum remaining open.. The National Love Hotel Museum will be expanded in the coming years.

Lunapolitan constitution to be rewritten?

"Discriminating and antiquated", says Empress Chiara II

In a press conference held by the Red Palace in Astra today morning, Empress Chiara II announced the constitution of Lunapoli, better known as the Scarlet Oath, will be entirely rewritten during the next months or even years.

"The Scarlet Oath has been written and implemented in 1875, during a time where the great Empire of Lunapoli had been ruled by the oppressing humans entirely, negating the rights of faunus and people from abroad, not even to mention minorities, especially the LGBTQIA+ community. During the last year, we've been establishing new legislation to counteract the archaic, oppressive constitution. However, instead of patching holes and painting over where the color has dried off, it is about time for us to start pulling out the evil by the roots, rather than merely fighting symptoms."

Experts have estimated the rewriting process to take at least 8 to 10 months while others have mentioned figures going up to 3 years in total. Among the Lunapolitan population, the announcement has been taken mostly well, with conservatives and nationalists speaking out against the Empress' plans.

Gianna Renzo case declared "finished"

All four policemen sentenced to death

The Gianna Renzo murder case has finally been put to an end. The case has caused an uproar throughout the nation, as in July of 2021, Amethynian journalist Gianna Renzo (21) was caught filming four Lunapolitan policemen, researching for the well-received international police brutality documentary "You Have the Right to Remain Silent". As she attempted to make her escape, she was forcefully restrained and transferred to the main police department of Troia, and found dead the next morning, choked out by folded bed sheets.

When the case had first been brought to the court, it was dismissed almost immediately, with all four policemen involved - Antonio Sala (39), Marco de Angelis (44), Andrea Martinelli (46), and Daniele Rinaldi (50) - set free. Following the regime change, however, Empress Chiara II had personally ordered for the case to be reopened, and today, it finally came to a close, as Sala, De Angelis, Martinelli, and Rinaldi being sentenced to death for kidnapping, sexual assault, and murder of Gianna Renzo.

During the final day of trial, demonstrations have surged throughout the entire country, especially in the cities of Astra, Troia, and Vesuvia, with an estimated 300,000 people taking to the streets in order for the policemen to be convicted.

"I feel no satisfaction, much less happiness. Just relief, knowing my daughter can finally rest in peace, and we can move on with our lives, though they'll never be the same", Cecilia Renzo (51) answered to the press after the case was closed.

Princess Skadi IV extends invitation to Violetian leaders

Nails with heads are made, as Skadi IV (13), current crown princess and soon-to-be Queen of Firnea, has now officially extended invitations to all the leaders of Violetia to join her for her crowning ceremony in the Emerald Palace.

"Emphasis is put on the fact that all the government leaders of the region are invited, and not just royals", a speaker of the palace said. "Princess Skadi is excited to meet her fellow heads of government. It is supposed to be a day of diplomacy and delight.

People may underestimate her for her young age. However, Princess Skadi is not a normal teenager in the slightest, and she is looking forward to prove her capabilities as a leader, and a symbol of progress for the millions of Firneans that will be directly affected by the crowning."

It is rumored that Princess Skadi will have "an offer to make" to the other leaders in attendance. What kind of offer this could possibly be is currently speculated upon, with no clear indication having surfaced so far.

Firnean trains on time 97 percent of the time

Customer happiness with Firnean state railroad peaked

The Firnean State Railroad has reached a punctuality rate of 97.0 percent during the year of 2022. By definition of the FSR, a train is considered on time if it arrives at its destination less than three minutes later than scheduled.

During an interview, FSR CEO Jana Althaus (45) said: "Investments have clearly paid off. Our railroad system has been extended, modernized, and improved in material quality, while we've optimized our schedules, and increased the general numbers of trains and train cars to ensure replacements are at the ready."

A recent study has shown that 91 percent of Firneans are happy with the FSR services, topping the previous record noted in 2019 (89.5 percent).

Phoenix Bellamy to be drafted for U-21 world cup?

Phoenix Bellamy (16), striker for current Firnean football champion Raventide City, is on the draft list for the upcoming U-21 tournament. This has been confirmed by Raventide City coach Ulrikke Svendsen.

"Yes, absolutely. Coach Eldegard (Thorsten Eldegard, 50, coach for the Firnean U-21 football team) has already contacted us about it, and it's a no-brainer, really. Phoenix is performing even better than last season, and she's already one of the best pro football players in Firnea. It would be nonsensical to not even consider her. She can make a difference in every match."

Coach Svendsen's claims are backed by numbers, as Raventide City leads the Firnean football championship with 25 points out of 9 matches (8 wins, 1 draw, no losses), and 28 goals scored, having received merely 11 goals. Bellamy has been in part of Raventide's starting XI in all of the 9 matches, having scored 9 goals and 3 assists.

CRACKDOWN IN FLÜBHELM, VOORLAND DOOMED ?

On Friday, the A-AC ordered the arrest of all involved parties in the recent Flübhelm violence. The decision was made after the government was presented with an abundance of evidence that the perpetrators were connected to the now-defunct Voorland Free State, an unrecognized terrorist state operated by the Free Front.

The Free Front is believed to have been responsible for the deaths of more than 50 people during the riots and subsequent government crackdown on the group.

"This is a victory for peace and order," said President of the State Council Elesha Gustauf in a press release. "We cannot allow terrorists like this to roam the country and endanger the lives of ordinary people."

The President added that the State would continue its efforts to apprehend those responsible for the attacks on Flübhelm.

"We have no reason to believe that the Free Front is no longer active," she said. "We will do everything in our power to prevent another such tragedy from happening again."

Flübhelm was once part of Eastern Voorland which was annexed into Aldissya after World War Two, but the area has had a long history of separatism.

As of now the violence has ceased and the region is back to normal. However, many have expressed doubts that the peace will last.

"I think we're seeing the start of something big," said one local resident. "People are scared and they're not gonna stay quiet for long."

The A-AC is currently offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of anyone involved in the violence.
In other news, the Free Front claimed responsibility for the bombing of a military supply depot in the northern city of Ghent, which left four dead and injured many others.

"We are fighting to liberate our brothers and sisters from oppression," the group said in a statement. "Until that happens, we will never stop."

In a separate incident, a bomb was discovered outside the main offices of The Sovereign, the country's largest newspaper. No injuries were reported, but the paper's editorial staff was forced to move to temporary offices.

"These acts are an affront to free speech and journalism," the editor said. "We will continue publishing regardless of the risks."

In the meantime, the government has increased security at public buildings across the country.

Stephenson, the highest scoring Amician submarine captain of the Second World War. At age 106, Stephenson was the last surviving captain of the former U-boat fleet, outliving Cpt. Dean J. Cohen of SV U-192 who passed away in late 2002.}

^{His family has asked not to be disturbed during the mourning period, noting that the intended service will be small, though occurring in assistance with the Navy. His passing has also led to increased calls amongst historian circles for the full unfiltered release of all submarine captain logs from the Second World War. KIBERIAN COUNCIL ANNOUNCES NEW FIVE YEAR PLANS
Developments to Include Health & Education Service Consolidation/Increased Manufacturing/Military Modernization Package

Since Kiberia's war of independence from Frandonia's past empire, the state has been at the forefront of Socialist ideals, and from this position had created a safe haven for its workers after decades of foreign capitalist exploitation. Kiberian resources were firmly Kiberian again, and the territory that would form modern Kiberia would be occupied by those unified in spirit and resolve. Since then industrialization had begun alongside the state's creation of an anti-authoritarian socialist direct democracy. While centralization was also necessary, its development was stunted due to the desire of the people to retain loyalty to local communities rather than the state itself. Previous industrialization efforts had been somewhat steered by the state, but it was local communities that developed their own systems of providing for human needs. A standard logsitical method was established in the 1950's which allowed for better economic regulation. Unlike the rest of the capitalist world, in Kiberia the economy is built around the needs of the people, rather than blind consumerism. The wage system was retained, yet the means of production were in the hands of the workers. Worker self-management was proven successful since the 30's in Kiberia and retaining a wage system made paying workers for labor easier than wage notes or other methods of earning. Taxes are designed to be primarily redistributive, while retaining very little differences in pay. Education, healthcare, and other services are entirely provided by the state at no cost to its people. This is the situation Kiberia finds itself in as its current leaders agree on a new five year plan.

First, health and education services were to be consolidated and given a standardized procedure/curriculum. Proper codes of conduct were standardized and were the first part of new regulations for health services. Further, all medical clinics, hospitals, and doctor's offices were all consolidated into a state-ran entity named "Servicio de salud de Kiberian" which would provide services across the nation and would be the sole provider. A similar reform was made for the state's education institution. A common curriculum was adopted and pressed into practice. Schools in Kiberia were geared towards promoting critical thinking, problem solving, as well as how to become a critical citizen. Colleges and universities were also consolidated into a single system, however were able to retain their unique names while the Ministry of Education was expanded.

Next, the state required a renewed and focused effort on manufacturing to ensure no shortages of goods or work were experienced. As all worker co-ops and state owned entities were more or less union ran, this provided excellent job security while retaining the ability to let go of workers who were sincerely lazy or simply were not qualified. The state also had conducted independent studies of the effects of human activity on the environment since the 1980's, and decided that a cleaner initiative was required. While heavy industry and goods production would not be slowed, a new plan would be put in place to turn to renewable energy as soon as possible. While hydropower, solar farms, and wind turbines recieved support, it was nuclear power that had been given the largest cut of the energy budget. While Kiberia had refused to work on any nuclear weapons during the latter half of the 20th century, this had also stopped any development of a civilian nuclear program. Now, steps were being taken to reverse this. Permits for surveying and extraction of local deposits of Uranium had already been distributed by the state, and the first step was taken. Hydroelectric dams would be established as the first energy megaproject of the 2020's, with dams being built in Toledia, Karabora, San Castilla, and Los Palmas. These dams are designed to have the capacity to power roughly 750,000 homes in total.

The economy itself would see little change in fundamental functions. Modernization was simply the aim of the state when it came to day-to-day operations. An improved internet system with a renewed focus on computers would be the first step, with the state offering worker co-ops trial runs with the promise of compensation should a failure occur and the co-op lose money. Other modernization efforts include urban facelifts. In an effort to encourge a more sustainable form of urbanization, buildings will be renovated with balconies added to provide a place for a biodiverse group of plants to be planted.

Finally, the state was forced to turn towards the military. The Kiberian People's Armed Forces had been purposefully neglected as tensions with the capitalists had cooled off, and money was spent into rapid industrialization. Now, the military's equipment was nearing 50 years old on average. The air element had suffered greatly as its fighters and bombers were from the early 80's, and even then those aircraft were designed in the 70's. The naval arm had also seen neglect. While designed for sea denial and defensive operations only, these older warships were simply outclassed. The nation possessed no aircraft carriers to speak of, no large capital warships, and only a handful of submarines. The naval arm did however contain aerial recon aircraft, but these too were old. The army was in the best shape, but not by much. The army had modern small arms, modern artillery pieces, and even self-propelled howitzers. However these were too few to really be counted on. Kiberian tanks were from the 80's as well, and could not be relied upon. Kiberian missile tech was somewhat modern, but still lackluster. All of this meant that serious funding had to return as it once did nearly 100 years ago. This plan relied both on potential imports, and domestic innovation. The Ministry of Defense had decided to design and develop its own new fighter and bomber aircraft, as well as modern tanks, but decided to look for international designs for artillery systems and missile technology. The hope would be to find a nation to cooperate with in development of these new weapons.
