According to the World, "the world contains 289,428 nations in 27,858 regions", while according to the World Assembly, "the World Assembly has 19,813 member nations and 944 Regional Delegates".

So we know there are at least "19,813 member nations" created by unique players, i.e. at least 19,813 online gamers internationally are playing NationStates. Let's be a bit conservative and assume ~20k additional non-member nations are controlled by unique players. So we have almost 40k international gamers playing NationStates, that's a lot. It’s not a just question of space, but time as well. Most nations are approximately modern, only taking place a few hundred years before or after today, but some are thousands of years away from the present. The fact that it would be impossible for many nations to exist at the same time and that nations can consider each other non-canon also means they have to exist in different universes. And this multiverse is weirder than you’d think: consider roleplay regions where some members may recognize outside RP as canon while others don’t. It’s either a question of theoretical physics or just plain unexplainable.
