One of the details of the agreement is that Israel still refuses to let civilians move from the south to north, which increases my concerns about permanent expulsion (ethnic cleansing) of Palestinians from northern Gaza.

Ik this will come off as a filthy centrist position but I have a really bad gut feeling about what Israel and Hamas will do after this ceasefire, or if they even will respect the ceasefire (although this position is just me being too cynical)

It'll be interesting on what the 50 released hostages will say about their time as prisoners under Hamas, and probably give us more of an idea of how Hamas is treating their hostages. Am saying this because around a month ago, Yocheved Lifshitz did recount that her Hamas captors were friendly and "wouldn't do anything bad to" the hostages bc they followed the Quran, had a doctor visiting every 3 days and had food shared with her (although initial capture was hell), although her husband is still a Hamas hostage so maybe that would've affected her response.

On Oct. 7th 2023 during the holiday of Shimini Atzeret/Simchat Torah, Hamas Terrorists launched an offensive against the state of Israel which they have called the "Al-Aqsa Flood." During this attack Hamas terrorists killed ~1200 Israelis and foreign nationals, wounded around ~4500, and kidnapped ~200-250 individuals. The following is a map of the attack.

Since then, Israel has retaliated with a week-long bombing campaign of Hamas targets in Gaza. Further, Israel has started ground operations in Gaza basically cutting the strip in half as they seek to eradicate Hamas's presence from the strip. Additionally, Hezbollah which is an Iranian back Shiite Political-Party/Paramilitary group in Lebanon, Lebanon is to the north of Israel has traded fire with Israel since the beginning of the conflict resulting in a mass evacuation of Israelis in the north of Israel.

In most recent events, "srael’s cabinet has approved a deal for the release of hostages seized by Hamas in exchange for a pause in fighting in Gaza. The truce is slated to begin on Thursday morning, an Israeli official told CNN. The agreement would see the release of at least 50 hostages – women and children – in exchange for a four-day truce in Israel’s air and ground campaign, according to a government statement. And it held out the potential for an extension, saying that an extra day would be added for each additional 10 hostages available for release. 150 Palestinian prisoners will be released from Israeli jails as part of the agreement, Hamas said in a statement. Israel has also released a list of 300 Palestinian prisoners who could ultimately be part of a wider agreement to release hostages held in Gaza."

This entire experience, for me, has been incredibly jarring. I was in synagogue at the time of the attack in the United States. Because I am observant, I do not use my phone on Shabbat and Holidays. It is common in synagogue to say a prayer for the State of Israel, the United States (or whatever country you live in), and for protection of the IDF soldiers. Before that service begun the Rabbi of the synagogue (who wasn't me, I am not a pulpit Rabbi) left the room rather quickly. He returned about 10 minutes later to inform us that we would also be saying a prayer for Jews who had been kidnapped. During his speech after this service he told the congregation that the police officer who guards the synagogue gave him a rough overview of the events. We were all shocked/stunned/mortified/grief-stricken etc. etc. I wouldn't wish any of that on my worst enemy.

IMHO Hamas needs to be destroyed, the Western World should treat Hamas the same way that they should treat ISIS. When ISIS videos came out the shock/revolt reaction that the Western World had is the only reaction that can and should be had wrt Hamas. Hamas has long been an antisemitic pollical party and now it should be clear to the entire world that their plan (thankfully it will never come to fruition) is genocide of the Israeli population, whether Jew, Muslim, or Christian. Hamas must be destroyed and it's memory blotted out from under the sun. Hamas Delanda Est.

As for what happens to Gaza after, I hope that another political party, NGO, international group or whatever can control the strip and finally grant some prosperity and peace to the people living there. I am generally against an Israeli occupation of the strip as I am generally against an Israeli occupation of the West Bank. To use a crass expression, I think Israel needs to "piss or get off the pot." I absolutely do NOT
think they should piss, but if they are going to, they need to do it and not linger.
