There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

So, as an American, I know little about UK politics (though I am somewhat related to the former PM Disraeli), but I've been seeing a lot of these people going after those Just Stop Oil protesters. I mean, I probably would to, to be honest, but are they that bad and widespread?

Bad to the extent they slow-walk roads and disrupt major events. Widespread to the extent they only slow-walk roads in central London and disrupt major sporting events that aren't football. (They did go after football first with the locking onto goalposts but appear to have stopped just after they began.)

Well it certainly smells better than the standard 2023 beach holiday in the South of England, so I guess we'll stay here this summer.

Currently reading Roy Hattersley's biography of David Lloyd George - one of the most frustrating and difficult to assess Prime Ministers of the 20th century.

The reason I'm bringing this up here is for a detail that will raise a Huskar eyebrow. According to Hattersley, Lloyd George privately told Sinn Fein leaders in the lead-up to the 1920 Government of Ireland Act that while they would have to accept that partition was going to happen whether they liked it or not, the borders of the six counties of Northern Ireland were being deliberately drawn in such a way as to make Irish unification inevitable. Hattersley uses this as an example of Lloyd George's typical negotiating technique, but if true, then the Prime Minister never intended partition to be permanent. Or given that this is David Lloyd George, perhaps it would be better to say that the then-Prime Minister wasn't invested in the permanence of Northern Ireland, which he considered secondary to delivering his government programme in Great Britain; the Unionist (in the Westminster sense) members of his post-war coalition likely viewed the situation very differently, which was almost certainly a contributing factor (alongside the more immediate catalyst of the Turkish crisis) in the Conservative & Unionist Party discarding Lloyd George as PM in 1922.

There's no timescale offered over that Lloyd George assertion that Irish unification was inevitable, but the strong implication is that he was thinking of 20-30 years rather than more than a century.

The queue in Dublin when I flew on Aer Lingus to Chicago last year was monstrous (though worth it for then being able to just walk off the plane at O'Hare for my connecting flight to Detroit).

Honestly newspapers like the Daily Mail survive off exaggeration - hyperbole is like their sliced bread. Most newspapers follow the same formula of -

- A story about Meghan Markle (double points if comparing her to Kate Middleton).

- A story about how a household product can kill you - it probably can’t.

- A story comparing an aspect of UK politics to 1984 or any other dystopian society.

- [politician name here] vows to [hyperbole verb here] [controversial item here].

edit: I will trim some options from the poll though since i have a 10 option limit in the poll.

Even clearing US customs at mainland US airports isn't so bad. I flew into Boston back in June, and it wasn't a problem.

I'm off again on November 20th, so we'll see how bad things are with Thanksgiving just days away.

It’s half clickbait, half fearmongering really. A world leader can cough, and they’ll call it ‘a harrowing sign of world conflict’.

They don't call that mechanism the 'fear factory' because it is unproductive!
