John Glenn has died at the age of 95 according to the Ohio State University.
He was hospitalized yesterday.
John was the first American to orbit the earth and served in WWII as a marine pilot. After his service as an astronaut and marine he served as a US senator for Ohio from 1974-1999.
He will be missed, especially by me as he was one of my heroes.

That's sad, because Glenn was always a hero of mine. Talk about being everything that makes America a great nation... Marine, Astronaut, Senator...
He will be missed.

Sounds horrible and insensitive.
Proceed.

The necessity of a navy, in the restricted sense of the word, springs, therefore, from the existence of a peaceful shipping, and disappears with it, except in the case of a nation which has aggressive tendencies, and keeps up a navy merely as a branch of the military establishment. 1

Astronauts push the boundaries of human knowledge and exploration.
As to "incompetent", do you have any evidence that Glenn was an incompetent Senator other than trite, tired, knee-jerk "all politicians are bad" swill? The kind that normalizes bad politicians and undermines democracy by telling us we shouldn't expect any better?
If you're going to come into a memorial thread to insult the dead man, you should at least have real reasons for it.

I'm not insulting him. I've never even heard of him. I'm refuting the notion that astronauts, marines, and senators make america a great nation, which, you have to admit, is a pretty weird thing to say.

They all contribute to making America a stronger and better country if they do their job well.
Do you have any evidence that Glenn was incompetent or corrupt at what he did? Because I don't.
Glenn was one of the five U.S. senators caught up in the Lincoln Savings and Keating Five Scandal after accepting a $200,000 contribution from Charles Keating. Glenn and Republican senator John McCain were the only senators exonerated. The Senate Commission found that Glenn had exercised "poor judgment".

Again, I never said that lol. I'm just replying to something stupid that someone said.
