After the banning of the Muslim brotherhood and its members being arrested and in some cases killed, thousands of Islamists, Salafists and wahhabists have protested against the secular Ba'athist government which has responded with violent crackdowns and the closure of several mosques. One of the leader of the protests, Imam Mohamed Aziz gave a public statement before his arrest, "Muslims of Lonograd, it is time for you to rise up! Kill the tyrant Bashir and establish god's Sharia! Raise the black of Islam over Riyad and behead the infidels! Takbir! ALLAH AKBAR!" It is now being debated if Aziz will be executed for his statement.
The president of Lonograd, Bashir Aaladeen gave a public statement on state television about the protests.
"Greetings everyone, many of you have wondered about these protests and my response to them, well I am here to condemn these protests for they are not peaceful as several police officers have been killed and that many of these people are members of Al Qaeda and the Muslim brotherhood. I am now giving full permission to the army to fire on these terrorists and restore order to our streets".
With the protesters getting more violent with some beheading police officers and government officials and the government responding with more violence, some wonder if these could turn into a full blown civil war.
