Islamist protests rock Lonograd (Open, Diplomat only)

After the banning of the Muslim brotherhood and its members being arrested and in some cases killed, thousands of Islamists, Salafists and wahhabists have protested against the secular Ba'athist government which has responded with violent crackdowns and the closure of several mosques. One of the leader of the protests, Imam Mohamed Aziz gave a public statement before his arrest, "Muslims of Lonograd, it is time for you to rise up! Kill the tyrant Bashir and establish god's Sharia! Raise the black of Islam over Riyad and behead the infidels! Takbir! ALLAH AKBAR!" It is now being debated if Aziz will be executed for his statement.

The president of Lonograd, Bashir Aaladeen gave a public statement on state television about the protests.
Image

"Greetings everyone, many of you have wondered about these protests and my response to them, well I am here to condemn these protests for they are not peaceful as several police officers have been killed and that many of these people are members of Al Qaeda and the Muslim brotherhood. I am now giving full permission to the army to fire on these terrorists and restore order to our streets".

With the protesters getting more violent with some beheading police officers and government officials and the government responding with more violence, some wonder if these could turn into a full blown civil war.

UNITED TAMRIELIC SOCIALIST REPUBLICS

TO: Lonograd government
FROM: Elder Council, United Tamrielic Socialist Republics

Dear government of Lonograd,

We would like to ask if help is needed in quashing the Islamist protests in the country of Lonograd. The Elder Council of the United Tamrielic Socialist Republic is deeply concerned about the Islamist situation and are wondering if a detachment from the Skyrim SSR's police would be needed to help Lonograd in their efforts. Nonetheless, the UTSR wishes Lonograd and it's government the best of luck in quashing these protests.

Signed,
High Chancellor of the United Tamrielic Socialist Republic,
Istold Siddgeir

Novorossitov notes the protests and announces support for the Lonogradian government. The leader of Novorossitov even does a speech on the protests, though it is, without doubt, one of his more shorter speeches, without as much eloquency.

RIYAD, LONOGRAD—The world is an amazing place. With hundreds of nations sprawled across our world, something is always happening and when it's not happening in one nation it's happening in another. Novorossitov dealt with some recent minuscule Neftyagnat¹ unrest, and we handled it rather well. They were homegrown attempts at riots that the police easily annihilated. Now, this seems to be the case in the small country of Lonograd.

Lonograd is a Muslim, Socialist state nowhere near Novorossitov and is not a concern to our nation at all, and yet our eyes, and international attention as well, has been brought with recent protests taking place all around the nation. Angry Neftyagnats¹ have been protesting, though more appropriately rioting, against the secular Socialist government in reaction to a recent banning of the Muslim Brotherhood in the nation along with its still-practicing members subsequently imprisoned and, in some cases, executed. Read More.

This has left most nations with a difficult choice, intervene or stay neutral, and the nations that chose the former an even more difficult option:
  • Support the Socialist Government,
  • Or support the Neftyagnat protesters.

While most thought Novorossitov would stay neutral, a recent "mini-speech" brought up during an interview on the subject of international events being held on our televised branch, The N. M. Observer Live has confirmed this is not true. A transcript of the speech is below.

Code: Select all
INTERVIEWER: "So, I understand where you're coming from Mr. Ryzhanov, but I simply don't believe that would be the correct decision. Of course, that is just my own opinion, and who am I to question the living version of God over here! *laughter* Moving on, it appears the next question concerns Lonograd. Have you heard of it?"

DMITRI: "I am aware of Lonograd. I do my best to know more about our world, political and scientific-wise."

INTERVIEWER: [Cut for Brevity]

DMITRI: "Very interesting situation, is there anymore information on this incident?"

INTERVIEWER: "No, not much. Lonograd is touchy on the facts, especially about events like this. You'll have to cope with what we have currently, and that's limited."

DMITRI: "Well then, I'd have to say that my stance on this would be supportive of the Lonogradian government. They are the lesser of the two evils and I must say I appreciate their attempts to remain secular in the face of the Muslim world, and, more importantly, in the face of Jihadists, an evil plaguing the entire Muslim world. Despite this, I condemn the brutal killings carried out by the government of a number of Muslim Brotherhood members that did start this whole disarray in Lonograd. I do not condemn the recent crackdowns on the rioters however, I believe that conveniently fits within the category of 'Death with moral reason,' and as a secular government I believe they had the right to close down those mosques. I also denounce Imam Mohamed Aziz as a terrorist and threat to secularism along with the Western world, including Novorossitov. I shall stand with Lonograd and if needed I would be happy to help them in quelling these riots."

INTERVIEWER: "I will have to say I agree with you. Mostly. *small laughter* Anyways, next question..."[END]

More shall come soon with updates on the situation and updates from the government with their opinion on these circumstances.

¹ A derogatory term for Muslims which was 'politically appropriated' as a [still derogatory] umbrella term for Salafists, Jihadists, and others of that type. It has roots in the Novorossitovian Russian translation for Oil Baron, a disparaging term for Muslims in itself.

Protests turn violent

Karim and thousands of other protesters were outside the presidential palace in the capital city of Riyad, they waved various Islamist flags and chanted, "Allah Akbar!" "Down with the tyrant Bashir!" Minutes later, Lonogradian People's Arab army soldiers or LAPA for short, aimed their AK-47s at the protesters and one of the LAPA commanders shouted through a megaphone, "Go BACK TO YOUR HOMES NOW! OR YOU WILL BE FIRED UPON!". The protesters responded by chanting "down with this evil regime!, down with the Ba'ath party!" The commander said to his men, "open fire". Within seconds of the order being given, the soldiers fired their weapons and tore hundreds of protesters to shreds, Karim and the surviving protesters ran back into the city square where some of them ambushed government forces and threw Molotov cocktails.

Videos of the protesters started to appear online

A video was uploaded online, in it a famous figure that has been dubbed the "new Osama Bin Laden" speaks about the recent events in Lonograd. He's known by his kunya(Arab nom de guerre) as "Abu Ibrahim al Masri", though his real name was never revealed to public. In it, Abu Ibrahim was wearing a grey qamis and a white turban, an AK-74 with a GP-25 grenade launcher was visible on the brown wall behind him. He started to speak in Arabic, though an English subtitle has been added.

"Bismillahirahmanirraheem, all praises to the almighty Allah, the most glorified, the most high. As you know, brother and sisters of Islam, the apostate government of Lonograd, the Ba'ath Party, and the kafir Bashir Aladeen (that has chosen his ideology over the deen), has for long ruled Lonograd. This apostate regime has for long, massacred Muslims, and clearly, have took people astray from the teachings of our religion. They are proud for their massacres, the blood of many innocent civilians are on the hand of the Lonogradian People's Arab Army soldiers. Now I say to the Muslimin of Lonograd, the Ummah, will you let this happen? Fathers, brothers, sisters and mothers alike are being killed daily by the regime, should we as Muslims let this happen? It is indeed our duty to defend fellow Muslims around the world, be it Palestine, Kashmir, Al Sham, Chechnya, or Lonograd. I call upon the Ummah as a whole, rise up, help your fellow Muslims in Lonograd, be it by donations, or even by an armed fight like what we have been doing in Syria against Bashar al Kalb, curses upon him. I also call upon the Muslims of Lonograd, will you let this happen? Will you let your own brothers and sisters, of your own kind be killed by the regime daily? It is indeed, your duty to rise up against the apostate regime of Bashir Aladeen. This has gone too far and too long, I call upon you, to rise up against the tyrant, I call upon you to wage an armed resistance against the regime, resist and do not stop. Your brothers and sisters around the world will soon join your fight. Fight, for the Ummah is on your side, and by God's will, we shall win. The army of Islam will not stop, the army of Islam will not stop, we are coming, until we raise the black flag of la ilahaillallah Muhammadurrasulullah above Riyad."

A massive online campaign was beginning for Al Ittihad, the call for Muslims around the world to join the fight against the Lonogradian regime, with social medias such as Setsuzoku as its medium.

Government forces were clearing out the remaining protesters in the capital city of Riyad, the army were brutal in their crackdowns against any political opposition, soldiers fired on anyone who was in the streets, men, women and children were slaughtered. Karim was hiding in an abandoned factory, he could regime soldiers shouting and the sound of gunfire, he then saw a soldier enter the building, he grabbed a piece of metal and whacked it on the soldier's head, causing his skull to crack which killed him imminently, he then grabbed the soldier's AK-47 and ran out into street, firing his weapon and killed two soldiers as he shouted "Allah Akbar!" Before he was mowed down by government troops.

The banned Muslim brotherhood gave a public statement in neighbouring Jordan where they would tell their supporters what to do next.

Image

"To the brave martyrs that are protesting, we say, don't give up! The dictator known as Bashir Aladeen must be overthrown! So take to the streets and protest against this secular tyrant and do not worry if you get shot, for every one protester that dies, a thousand more will take his place".

In the far east near the Lebanese border, a small group of men armed with AK's, RPG's and other weapons were sitting on pick up trucks, they had heard Abu Ibrahim al Masri's call and had crossed the border to overthrow the lonogradian government and replace it with an Islamic caliphate, some members of the group also took part in the Islamist insurgency which lasted from 2005 till 2007, they committed massacres against Alawites and Ba'ath party members before being crushed by the military, many of them were foreign volunteers from Afghanistan, Bosnia, Libya, Chechnya, Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

Although the government had censored most of the internet, more and more videos started to appear online.

Official Statement of the Hatayan Government

We have been closely monitoring the situation in Lonograd. Peaceful protests of jihadist-aligned groups have quickly turned to bloodbaths on the streets. Hatay will not support any regime that uses force of arms upon its people. However, Salafist groups have quickly rallied to violence and have prepared for a violent civil conflict. The Government of Hatay finds both groups to be detestable and deplorable in every way. As such, we will not involve ourselves in the situation unless the conflict threatens our country or our people, or radical new development takes place.

Aktar Army base

It was a hot day at the base, soldiers were doing their regular duties, cleaning their weapons, combat training and other military stuff. Three Toyota pick trucks carrying ten militants each, approached near the Base, carrying Kalashnikovs and rocket launchers like the RPG, they dismounted from their vehicles and imminently started to fire in the base. Their assault on the compound took government forces by surprise and ended with heavy casualties with 50 regime soldiers being killed in the fighting. The Rebels had now had thousands of boxes full of Ammo, hundreds of weapons, dozens of BTRs and infantry fighting vehicles, fifteen T-55 Tanks and twelve T-72 tanks, the Lonogradian People's Arab Army soldiers who surrendered were publicly executed and the video was posted online.

Image

The main man walked up and said, "Bismillahirahmanirraheem, we are here today to execute the soldiers of Bashir, the Tyrant and filthy Alawite who is nothing but a puppet of Iran, in'shallah we will behead this apostate and his followers, second we would like to express our solidarity with the mujahedeen of Hatay, may Allah free Mazeed Mansour who was unjustly imprisoned by the infidel government of Hatay and their master Ali Golofad. He then began to execute the prisoners as the fighters shouted, "Takbir!" "Allah Akbar!" And then the video goes black.

"My Lord, the situation in Lonograd has descended into anarchy." The king's eyes struggled open as he remembered he was being addressed, though by who exactly escaped him. Admittedly, he had dozed off a moment, and to prevent it from happening again, he propped up his pillows and hoisted himself that he may use them as a makeshift seat, and looked over the parliamentarians who dared to interrupt his mid afternoon nap. There was the Head of the House of Al'lah, Mau Adir, the Representatives of the sub houses of Sunni and Shia Islam, Sami Ramir and James Nateson, and a representative of the Muslim Brotherhood, Raul Al Abbas.
"There's a situation in Lonograd which has descended into anarchy," he slowly parroted. "And four of the most prominent Muslim men in the Empire have entered into my bed chambers. Something right tells me I ought to have my afternoon tea and whiskey before I hear what proposition you've got for me."
"We want to go to Lonograd. With a small delegation of Vaspai officers, we are more than certain that we can help to begin negotiations between the government and the protestors. At least, we can more appropriately gauge the situation if we were to venture there." Mau spoke to the king, who's jaw was slackened and full of confusion.
"If you've no fear of the consequences, and I assure you that I can make no promises on your safety..." King Tal'eu began. "Then the situation is out of my hands. Speak with the chieftain of Malkorat. If he thinks it wise, then let him sign you lot off. But honestly, about my afternoon tea and whiskey, if, on the way out the door, one of you would be so kind..."

Hail, and may God ever guide you.  I pray this message finds you in good health.  It has come to my attention , as well as that of those in higher and lower power in Sacheyenya, that a mass of trouble has emerged in your nation.  If it pleases you, I wish to send a delegation of eight men to your nation in order to both, calm rebels, as well as diffuse tension within the government concerning the standing of various Muslim groups in your nation.  I eagerly await your reply.

God Bless,
