The Evil Side of Evilness (IC)

Postby The Selkie » Sun Oct 09, 2016 7:05 am

Hello and welcome to the IC of The Evil Side of Evilness, a University RP of another kind. Please sign up here and be accepted before posting. Thanks.

After the Evil Side of Evilness claimed rulership over the University of Leuda by the Power of Cookies and Coursework, the University falling under the spell of Professor Fynn Ollamh of the Tribe of Monaghan, the Professor Who Must Not Be Named and his lackeys.
Earthwalls sprang up over night, student bodies were elected and held council in order to make and break alliances - and they were made and they were broken. The venerable University, one could day, descended into chaos.
Fleeing the campus, a sage called (or teching assistant, the terms were congruent anyways) onto the foreign students at the university, foreign teachers and staff - a group of heroes to liberate the campus from evil, hopefully without hurting anyone. One morning, our brave heroes stood at the Western entrance to the campus, the street to Leuda behind them and the campus, nestled into a small valley, in front of them.
Left of them was the building known as Med-House, the Faculty for Medicine. It had an earth wall erected around it, decorated with the scelletons from the closets and biology rooms, normal guards keeping watch as well - with brooms and bycicle helmets.
The street was unblocked and in the distance, after an open space adorned with flowers and the odd tree, was the Old House, the accompanying Office Tower looming over the campus - at the top, the sage had said, was the Professor Who Must Not Be Named.
It would be hard to enter and to overthrow him, the sage had said that as well.
They needed allies, friends, better equipment - and the heroes (hopefully) knew that, too. Otherwise... the world was lost...

Sophie Westerrmark walked into the University of Leuda, admiring the walls of soil that the students had built around the building. They looked to be built like some kind of crude medieval defensive structure - perhaps an extracurricular project. She glanced at her map, looking for the engineering building. The beauty of the campus was quite apparent, but she didn't want to be late for anything. Studying the scenery could wait.

The Fascistisk student had only just arrived, dressed in a feldgrau jacket and pants. Other people might think it was a bit ridiculous that she had to wear such clothing on her first day, but representing the Glorious Fascistisk Union was a very important part of studying abroad. She looked down at her map again. The engineering building looked to be at the other side of the campus, but it never hurt to make certain.

Sophie walked up to the first person that she had seen - a rather strangely dressed person in a bicycle helmet. Smiling enthusiastically, she tried to get the attention of the broomstick wielding student. "Hello! I am new to this University, and I was wondering if I should be attending any sort of orientation? Should I just head straight to the engineering building, or this there a information desk of some sort... Are you in a bicycle race?"

The guard on the earth wall saw the (admittedly good looking) young woman in the grey clothes approach.
In one fluid motion, he lowered his broom into a defensive position - every Selkie-child knew how to wield a lance and although that was not both tradition and part of PE-lessons, a broom wasn't too different from a spear to use similar movement patterns.
The student with the helmet frowned for a moment, then raised his improvised guarding weapon again in a relaxed position. "You startled me there for a second, Miss.", he answered and returned her smile a bit softer, "Thought you were one of Creachaire's Raiders... damned lot. No, I am not in a bycicle race, although this sounds like a good idea for next summer!" He laughed. "Anyway, you should come inside, the roads are not safe during this time of the day! Gate's down there!"
He pointed to his right, down the short wall, past two of his skeletal comrades and to a small open section.

Sophie turned around and looked at the university campus, scanning for some sort of enemy presence. If something truly dangerous was going on, then why was this student wearing a bike helmet? And carrying a broomstick? "Why would the roads be unsafe? Is something going on? Erm.. Yes, I think I'm going to come inside, if thats alright."

With a worried look on her face, she walked through the opening in the earthen wall.

"It sure is!", the guard called after her and then watched her go.
Yep. Really good looking., he thought underneath his bycicle helmet before turning back to his duty.
At the gate itself, the young woman was welcomed by four other guards, one who wielded a foam sword on his belt and looked her up and down as she passed freely - they weren't on alert and while she indeed was a bit weirdly dressed, so were they.
"Welcome!", a much more friendly looking person said with a huge grin, coming towards the young woman, his arms extended in a friendly fashion, "Welcome to Med-House! Judging by your appearance, you must be one of the heroes the Sage organized!"
Behind the wall, the faculty building stood, only three stories high and quite a sight to see: The windows were adorned with banners and cloth, tall tents had been erected in all colours of the rainbow, young people milled about, erecting further structures and expanding existing with relatively primitive means. Directly behind the gate, however, was a plaza - a market square, with stands of people with all sorts of merchandise, bartering and trading, ordered chaos, watched over by a small troupe of people with bycicle helmets.
Many of the people were young men and women.
It surely was a sight to see.

Sophie looked around at the walled faculty building, mouth agape at the magnificent sight. She was no stranger to scale and architectural prowess; Sophie had studied in the towering Fascistisk Fortress Cities of northern Norway and Sweden. But no one had died building these tents, no concrete reinforcements and artillery guns were carved in the building. These tents and banners seemed warmer, friendly. More inviting than the cold practicality of her homeland.

The Fascistisk student closed her mouth, and turned to the Selkie that had spoken to her. "Sage? I haven't spoken to a Sage... Oh, I think you have the wrong person. I am Sophie Westermark, an engineering student from the Glorious Fascistisk Union. The Swedish Member State, to be exact." She extended her hand, smiling rather nervously at the young man. "Um.. Is the University having issues with anarchists of some sort? Someone told me the roads are dangerous. Perhaps I should leave until order is restored?"

The man laughed, both at her comment and at the eyes of wonder the young woman had, as she looked what was behind the eart wall. It was a nice laugh, not an evil one.
"Oh, no, dangerous isn't the word I'd use! Yes, raiders and robbers are on the move, but their actions are limited to stopping you on the road and asking for your lunch money while rattling with their brooms - if you give it to them, you are free to pass, if not, you are free to pass as well, but you won't get a nice farewell.", the man explained with a smile and shook her hand, "Anyway... I am a mysterious merchant, who's role in this intricate game will only become apparant near the end and you sound like what we need, Miss Westermark! Come with me, you don't have to understand it right now, but a great evil lurks in the hallowed halls of this university..."
He leaned forward to tell her a secret.
"The Professor Who Must Not Be Named..." There was a pause, glancing up. "We shouldn't make such dramatic reveals in sunshine and by daytime..."

"It would certainly make more of an effect if a lightning storm was available." She thought for a moment, checking her digital watch for the time. "Are you sure there isn't an orientation of some sort that I have to attend? I really don't want to be late for anything."

Deric Gutyu leaned below the recently constructed earthen walls. His face was that of utmost concentration. Dirt soiled his baize trousers and blue flax shirt. Gripped in his hands was some very thick book, Every Medical Herb and its Effects, Volume II. He seemed quite intent on it. One might just think him a normal student. But this thought is quickly dispelled when one looks at the ground beside him. To his left is an empty 6 cylinder nerf blaster (Nobody really bothers with its name.) and foam sword. Upon examination of the scene, and the other people, it would not be hard to conclude who everyone was: the hero want-a-bees of the campus.

Of course, however, coursework still needed to be completed. He was currently struggling with the names of the Selkie herbs. He sighed,These Selkian names! They're easier then English or Latin ones, but still harder then Copesidian names. (Copesidian is the language of Our Ladia.) He flipped the page. It was the end of the chapter. Deric closed the book with a resounding thump, startling a few bystanders.

He then stood untop of a nearby crate. He peeked above the earthen wall. The Old Building rose ominiously in the distance. That was where He Who Shall Not Be Named had made his headquarters. He wondered what was in that building. Traps, cats, angry janitors, homework, and loot, lots of loot probally. Derric stroked his chin thoughtfully. He was ready for an adventure. He was sure others were too. The gate would probaly be a good place to look for volunteers.

After picking up his "weapons" and book, he jumped off the crate and walked toward the gate. He admired the colorful tents and windows. It remined him of a medival army being assembled for war. He made a note to get a tent himself. Sure he had a dorm, but looked boring. Besides, if he was in a tent, he could get to the action faster. He pulled out an index card and scribbled a note on it.

Arriving at the gate, he was surprised to see a young women, probally 20 or so, talking to the guards. He knew that she was not a Selkie due to her pale skin and frail body. But she did look pretty in her uniform. When she finished talking, Derric cleared his voice. He asked the group in his best mystical voice (Which was admittingly horrible, but still sounded somewhat cool with his Our Ladian accent.[Our Ladian sounds somewhere inbetween African, Spanish, and Scottish.]) he could muster,"Does anybody want to join me on an adventure!"
Nope, Our Ladia has yet to go to war with anyone.

The Mysterious Merchant scratched the back of his head.
"I am not sure... I know, that we don't have such things this semester...", he said and looked away, spotting someone by a cart. "Hey, Finny!"
The man by the cart, apparently Finny, looked up and nodded. "What is it, M-Squared?"
"Your girlfriend is with the engineers, right?" A nod. "Do they have orientation this semester?"
Finny shook his head. "Nope, not until Friday. But..."
That was, when someone, who already made a name for himself with defending the caravans and helping with the medical side of things made his presence known: "Does anybody want to join me on an adventure!", Deric Gutyu, Deric with the nerf gun that hurts your face, said into the round and most likely to the young woman especially.
The Mysterious Merchant smiled.

Sophie nodded, retrieving what looked to be a notebook from her uniform. She scribbled something into the small book, making note of the orientation. "Thank you for the information." she said, smiling once again at the group of Selkie. Placing her notebook back in her pocket and shouldering her backpack, it seemed that she was ready to move once again.

Then, she heard the new voice say "Does anybody want to join me on an adventure!"
She turned her head, examining the newcomer. He was rather tall, with dark skin and a lean muscled look to him. He seemed to be familiar with the other Selkie, but certainly not of the same country. His accent was distinct, different from what the merchant and Finny had been articulating. Perhaps grouping with another foreign student would be beneficial - he must have gone through the same confusion that she was experiencing right now.

"I suppose I'm ready for some sort of adventure; as long as it doesn't interfere with my classes. I hardly think my superiors would be impressed with the first Fascistisk student in the Free Lands failing her courses..."

Deric expectantly looked over the round of people. He noticed that the mysterious merchant smiled. Deric was not sure if he should be afraid of it or to ignore it. After all, it was the mysterious merchant in question. He was probally as kiniving as Erobi (OoC: Necronium female god of mischief She supposedly started WWII because she was bored of "small scale" wars. Nice gal huh?) A few seconds of silence passed until the pretty young girl with blond hair said,"I suppose I'm ready for some sort of adventure; as long as it doesn't interfere with my classes. I hardly think my superiors would be impressed with the first Fascistisk student in the Free Lands failing her courses..."

He grinned and replied ensuastically,"Don't worry, m'lady, the adventure I have planned should only last a few hours at most. He continued in a darker voice,"Besides, it is not safe to venture out at night around here. Mop mobs are everywhere when the sun goes to sleep." Brightening up again, he said,"But where are my manners?" He crossed his right arm over his stomach and curtly bowed. He lifted his head saying,"I am Deric Ere of the Gutyu Clan from Our Ladia. Who might you be, m'lady?"

Sophie folded both her arms behind her, bringing her boots together. She spoke a little louder, as if answering a roll call. "I am Sophie Westermark, of Fascistisk Sweden. Previous student of the honourable Skjult-Marshal Navn Ukjent, current student of the University of Leuda - Free Lands." She relaxed, letting her arms drop to her sides. "It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Master Gutyu."

Deric respectfully replied,"It is a pleasure to meet you as well, Ms. Westermark..
Its interesting how she stands when I ask her name. Its almost as if she is answering a roll call... I'm sure its some other reason.

Deric was about to explain his plan to scout He Who Shall Not Be Named lair when Finny piped in,
"Be it as it may be.", Finny interrupted with a smile, "You want adventure, you two? I'll be part of a caravan bound for Tycoon House later. We could use a few more people in case of a surprising raider attack. Central Park is teeming with them... those guys over at Soc House are far too occupied with themselves. Of course, you will get paid in one form or the other. You in?"

Deric pondered for a moment. That was a pretty good idea for an adventure. Granted, not as daring as his original plan. Then again, it was also a safer one. He did not want to be the first adventurer to be caught by the Evil Side of Evilness. He would never here the end of it from his brother, Sando Gutyu.

The want-a-be adventurer replied,"That sounds good to me mister, but what do you think Ms. Westermark?"

Our Ladia wrote:Deric expectantly looked over the round of people. He noticed that the mysterious merchant smiled. Deric was not sure if he should be afraid of it or to ignore it. After all, it was the mysterious merchant in question. He was probably as kiniving as Erobi (OoC: Necronium female god of mischief She supposedly started WWII because she was bored of "small scale" wars.
Mop mobs are everywhere at that when the sun goes to sleep." Brightening up again, he said,"But where are my manners?" He crossed his right arm over his stomach and curtly bowed. He lifted his head saying,"I am Deric Ere of the Gutyu Clan from Our Ladia. Who might you be, m'lady?"
(OoC: What is below is taking place after she told him her name and such. I will edit in her reply later.)
Sophie?"

The Fascistisk student listened carefully to Finny's proposition. She supposed she was moderately good at Raslåsskamp, so perhaps she would be a fine addition to the league of guards guiding this caravan. At the very worst, she wouldn't slow anyone down. On the other hand, she was sure that the government wouldn't be extremely pleased with participation in such games. Bah, she might as well try to have some fun here. The very reason she left Scandinavia was to experience new things - besides, orientation didn't even start till Friday.

"I think thats a fine idea. We would need weapons for this expedition, yes? I hear raiders are a dreadful bunch." she said with a smile.

"If you want to, you can use my.." Deric shook his nerf blaster,"...dart cossbow and/or sword. I have a wooden staff back at my dorm that I can use." Remembering that he was right next to a merchant, he added somewhat laughingly,"If you don't want to use any of my weapons, we do have a first rate merchant right next to us." He pointed toward the Mysterious Merchant and continued,"I can speak from experiance that he sells excellant swords."

The Mysterious Merchant nodded.
"It would be my pleasure to equip you, Lady Westermark, both with weapons, armour and equipment... for a price." The Merchant let a beat pass. "That all depends on your own favourites, though, if you prefer to fight close-up or from a distance. I won't charge you much, though, except a small... favour. Nothing too serious, I can assure you."
Fynn knew, what that was about - and it was serious.
The caravan assembled already, six horse-drawn carts and crew, waiting for the freight they had to haul around and the guard detail.

Sophie pondered borrowing the other foreigner's weapons - she didn't like the sound of that 'favour', but Fascistisk were not to accept charity. She would pave her own way in this little game, even if it got her into a bit of a mess. "I thank you, Deric, but I'll be buying from this merchant. I wouldn't want to rob you of any of your personal effects, it would only be bad for unit cohesion." She turned to the Mysterious Merchant, narrowing her eyes slightly. "So, mister merchant. Would it be possible for you to give me some sort of weapon? A sword or the equivalent to such a thing would be very nice. There is no need for armour, we do not fight with it in my country anyway. It is... Erm, 'weak sauce'."

The Mysterious Merchant nodded.
"That would be entirely possible, if that is your style.", he said with a nod and a smile, "Tell you what, the sword will be part of your payment - a minimal one, mind you. Come."
He led the young woman to his stall, tended to by a spunky First Semester Student, who grinned as her boss approached with someone in tow. "Welcome, one and all, to the Med's premier weapon's stall - we make your enemy need the Med!"
The Merchant grinned. "Morning, Gwenny. This young lady would like a weapon, a sword."
"Ah.", the young Selkie made and grinned, "I have just the right thing for you!" Her hands went under the stall, before she pulled out a small blade, maybe .75 meters in length with a small crossguard and a handle fit for one hand, a bit crude, if one was honest, made of wood and unpainted. "A wooden short sword. What do you say?"

"It looks wonderful - I am sure the blacksmith... Erm, carpenter, is very skilled." said Sophie, taking the sword and feeling the weight in her hands. She removed a black marker from her backpack, and scribbled a few little characters onto the blade. "Old norse, for luck. I hope thats alright. Do you have any sort of shield? I suppose I could just make one if you have any large sheets of cardboard lying around."

"Actually, woodcutter.", Gwen corrected with a shrug. "Apprentice. Anyway, give me a second."
With that, the seller went beneath her stall again, mumbling a few things to herself and shuffling stuff around underneath the stall, before she came again - with a small, round, wooden shield, green in colour and already a bit weathered. It wasn't large or much, but in the hands of a skilled fighter, it would do its job. Plus, it was large enough to be wielded without too much hindrance, still allowing for swift and agile moves.
Gwen looked out from behind it. "What do you say?"

Sophie looked over the shield, nodding to the apprentice. “This will do nicely, thank you. Green is my favourite colour.” She took both her wooden weapons, sliding the sword into one of the belt loops of her greatcoat. This was certainly a different experience than the universities in the Fascistisk State. She had sometimes gone to the university in Stockholm to watch the foreigners that studied there arrive - all the children enjoyed watching the silly newcomers face their first bout of mandatory Physical Training and drill.

In this place, she hadn’t even seen a member of staff yet. The wooden weapons and raiders were a bit childish, but it was a welcome change. Sophie turned to the mysterious merchant. “So… How exactly do we pay for things such as these?”

The Merchant looked at the foreigner with an appraising nod. She looked good - the green shield made her eyes glow.
"It's simple.", he said with a smile, "I did you a favour, you do me a favour - or rather two small ones." He made a short pause and took something from underneath the stall, a small wooden box without any markings, but tightly sealed. "For one, you escort Fynn's caravan to its destination and make sure, that they all stay safe. Once there, you deliver this..." He pointed at the box. "...to Liam Bosca. He's a tall man, blonde, blue eyed. You can't miss him."
He let a beat pass, holding onto the box.
"Do not, under any circumstance, open this box or let anyone else open this box.", he said in a low, threatening tone. "The result will not be pretty." He suddenly grinned. "Other then that, have fun!"
The carts in the background were now loaded up and the caravaners assembled to speak about the route, while the guard detail stood around. It really was not impressive.
All waited for the two foreigners.
