Islamic media tirade chases atheist journalist out of land

Bosnian journalist Lejla Colak told BIRN on Monday that she had received a series of threats of violence after criticising Islamic garments like the burka and niqab in a post she wrote on Facebook.

In her post on August 26, Colak, an atheist, compared wearing such garments in public to wearing a “strap-on dildo in the streets”.

“Religion should be intimate, just like sexuality. Keep it to yourself and the like-minded. Do not impose it on others,” Colak wrote.

After local Islamic news portal Saff.ba published criticism of her post, Colak began receiving threats via Facebook Messenger and in the comments section of the post.

“Are there any volunteers to rape lovely Lejla? … I will personally pay for it???” wrote one man, whose online profile says that he is a member of the Bosnian Army.

Two female social media users called for Colak to be run over by a car, soaked in petrol and burned.

It is pathaetic to see that not just the common people (which on it's own is bad enough) but an entire media complex is persecuting (sadly, with success) a person for telling their opinion.

It's the same with anything anti-islamic. You're called a racist, deplorable, fascist, xenophobe, SS member, and so on. Really, it's nothing new at all. Even if your critique is well founded (islam's positioning of women in society, for instance, or the slave trade that continues to this very day in islamic countries in Africa and the Arabian world) you will get chewed out as if you are mere moments away from grabbing the reins of an industrial nation and instituting a final solution. Sigh.

True, overly zealous populations will feel threatened if a single person expresses an opionion contrary to theirs, they will see it as a full blown "war" against them. In the US, some zealots will see the very existance of atheists as a war against christians, while, as I recall, the discrimination against atheists there is such that they can't hold office in several states...

She didn't deserve the abuse. Nobody deserves abuse on that level. This does not detract from the fact that her statements were stupid and unpleasant.

Why don't you go to a thread about a black person being shot by the police and write: "So if it's a problem with all police, where is the howling indignation whenever a white person is shot?"

Things like these need to be covered, that being said tho, the last comparison might not be that fitting. You will recieve far less problems with being an atheist in majority christian nations than in muslim ones. For all I know, no christian nation lashes you for disbelief. Of course, I am not defending christianity as a whole, am just saying christian populations are more tolerant of it.

All in all, criticism against islam is far worse recieved than the one against christianity.

Sad as it is, stubidity is not illegal, and besides, all of life is unpleasant at moments, you can not evade from it. People have the right to express their thought as long as it isn't proper hate speech (ie. calls for extermination or whatever).

You must have missed the shitstorm that broke out over Kony, who is a Christian. Or over the Westboro Baptist Church.

Kony was a genocidal maniac using childsoldiers and the WBC is such that the KKK had to highlight that they opposse them.
The "doing of reprehenisble things" from the side of Christians in this context was propably meant in the volume as the muslim media and uneducated folk reacted in this case, that is, negative outlash of Christians against someone criticising them.

Ah yes, saying that a person will spend eternity in agony and endless pain (ie. claiming them to be as evil as rapists, murderers etc) is equal to comparing one object to another. Great.

Besides, islam does not dictate the burqa, the burqa is an element worn by those who spread foreign savage culture as well as being directly linked to extremism (not to forget that a burqa is an immense security issue).
