Fairly Modern Grimm RP Planning and General Chat

Postby Harbertia » Tue Sep 27, 2016 4:04 pm

Greetings, I am Harbertia, founder of the Fairly Modern Grimm RP Series. Fairly Modern Grimm is a an RP series involving a world inhabited by the decedents of fairy tale classics. Their Bloodlines have spanned generations and given them remarkable powers but also a compelling of the fates.

NOTE: This is both for planning RPs, and Chat in general so if you have something to say about the bloodlines do say it so the series can better it's self.

Bloodlines -WIP-
Boulbadour
Aladdin's descendants, they possess no powers of their own but are recognized none the less. The family has three relics a Ring, and two lamps but rarely have access to these relics as the family hides them away. The Ring gets the most use, and thus travels more then any of the other three.

Charming
Ancestors: Avenant Charming and Prince Charming
Yours is a lienage of daring heroes, of good looks, drawn to damsel's in distress, afflicted by dark spells. The first Charming awoke the Sleeping Beauty with a kiss. The two where wed shortly their after, another, Avenant Charming, was not so lucky, though he did much daring for Princess Goldilocks she wed another, and he himself was put into a tower by the King, only to have the Princess, by then a Queen, free, and marry him after her husband's death. Another notable ancestor is said to have revived Snow White.

  • Blessing of Twins: Charmings are more likely then any other bloodline to produce Twin offspring.
  • Always Handsome: Charmings can sustain any number of injuries to the face, and never suffer severe disfigurement. If they do gain a bruise, or scare it just complement's their features.
  • Love at First Sight: Charmings can literally fall in love on sight; which isn't the same as obtaining lust- no- it's more then that. A Charming will gain an instant concern for this one person, and always be able to sense when that someone is in physical danger. The thoughts of a Charming will be filled with ways to make their special someone happy, and impress them; to gain their admiration. Often this means getting involved in sports, though intellectual prowess has been shown from time to time. This bond has also caused them to conduct daring if not irrational feats to protect their special someone.

Children of the Bow
Image
Yours is a line that can be traced to Robin of Loxley, a noble who while off on crusade, had his holding confiscated by the state. His father's rivals refused to return the land, and concealed Robin's identity. Those in control of his estate where under the ruling of King John, who taxed the peasantry with out concern, while lavishing those lords loyal to him with wealth. Robin saw this, and in disgust began a campaign to return the wealth taken from the peasants, by taking it from the lords. Robin continued till the return of King Richard the Lion Hearted, who like Robin had been presumed killed in the crusades. With the rightful king returned to the throne, the Kingdom's status began to better, and Robin's title restored (though he continued to keep the company of Sherwood forest). His latter exploits involved the rescue of Maid Marian, and his eventually burial beneath a tree in the forest of Sherwood, which he considered his true home.

  • Forest Cover - When in the woods, you have a knack for using limbs, leaves, and high branches for the purpose of concealment. You also possess a fine directional sense, and will never be lost in a forest.
  • Three Times Bullseye - You are never off in your aim, able to hit precisely where you intend to, however no matter how good your aim may be your shots will never hit an individual of good alignment. Good being defined in this case as being either generous or just (fair).
  • To the Needy - Yours is a heart that goes out to the less fortunate then thy self. When coming into wealth by any means your compelled to give a hefty sum of it to those unable to financially support themselves. Failing to do so would fill your heart with a nagging guilt.
  • Companionship - It's hard to gain your trust, but when someone does you form tight bonds of loyalty with them. You are good in groups, and like organizations that have a sense of fellowship, rather then hierarchy.

Western Fox
Image
Ancestry: Brother Fox aka Brair Fox, Renard, Mr. Fox (The Story of Pino)

  • Shadow of the Fox: Your human guise is flawed for the moon light casts a shadow of your true self.
  • "I have hundred's of Tricks" said the Fox: Western Foxes have a quick mind that's able to come up with many ways out of a trap; may that trap be physical or social in nature. However they only need one solution. Only a Fox who has been in a lot of situations; one with great experience, can hone in on one solution over the various solutions that come to their mind. This none liner line of escapist thought tends to be a hassle for Foxes who lack experience.
  • Form of the Fox: All Foxes can return to their true form at any time, gaining all the attributes of the Fox. Western Foxes include all the foxes of Europe, North America, and Africa.
  • Persuasive: Foxes have a knack for gaining the trust of others- a certain level of Charaisma that makes it easier for them to make friends- or to simply distract or deceive someone long enough to take advantage of them. Foxes thus make great Lawyers, Salesmen, Politicians, and Psychologists even if they tend towards the less savory side of those professions. Most Foxes have an issue with authority that does not come from family, and a dislike for those who use power to keep others down. They prefer to be with the people, and often will attempt to avoid obtaining political power as it changes people; and among the Foxes this change is rather evident. So long as a Fox keeps their concern towards the well fare of others, they'll be just fine- but once that mission is lost- Foxes can become some of the most treacherously ruthless people on the planet.

Grimm
Image
Ancestor: The Brothers Grimm
Yours is a mysterious lineage laced into the fabrics of a thousand tales. Fate has a loose hold upon you, as if part of the pen is with in your grasp. You have a sense, an innate attraction to that which is obscured.

  • Your ancestors have been recording the secret world for centuries, chronically the lives of others under the guise of fiction. Due to this, you, compared to most humans, have a knowledge that escapes others. Access to a deep lore spanning thousands of years, lore you will know where to find, and how to read between the lines.
  • Sense of the Grimm: You will be drawn to areas where lore is soon to unfold, and possess the ability to feel other beings around you, though with out obtaining the lore, you will not be able to identify them.

House Grimhilde
Image
Ancestors: Queen Grimhilde, Snow White, and Apple White
You are descended from a branch of German royalty with kinship ties to the Grimms. Grimhilde was a powerful house, known for it's beautiful woman, and even hand. That was, till one Queen whose first name has been lost in legend. Queen Grimhilde was a sorceress who wrought out punishment's of the cruelest degree in a bid for perfect security. When informed by a magic mirror, that peered into a world beyond that she was nolonger the most even handed, and beautiful in the land; but that her daughter is she sinks to a new low, in vanity ordering Snow's demise.

  • Brewing: You have an instinct when it comes to old time elixirs, and potions; having a feel for herbs. When your mind is put into it, you can brew something that will work as you intend it to.
  • Mirrors: You have a quirky trait for talking to mirrors, as if someone, somewhere on the other side can hear you. Almost as if another world exist behind the reflection.
  • Way with Apples: Apples, for some reason, you have a sense when it comes to apples over other plants. As if Apples are something you can understand simply by grasping them. If you go into the planting of Apple trees you'll find you possess a gifted thumb, as they grow faster then they should, taking three, rather then five years to grow.

Huntsman
Image
Ancestor: The Huntsman
You are a Huntsman, but a Huntsman like no other. Your ancestor was a Hunter of a special kind, his quarry where bounties, and creatures of the night; hidden stalkers of men. He achieved great fame for his rescue of the original Red Hood, in all honesty, the girl was just their when he caught up with Old Greyhead, having finally acquired proof of the creatures deeds. This won him the place of Royal Huntsmen in the Grimhilde Royal Court, a position he enjoyed till Queen Grimhilde ordered him to kill her daughter, Snow White. A request he could not forfill, for Snow White was the most innocent of persons he had known. Thus he faked his actions, only to latter flee when the Queen discovered of his fraud.

  • Seeker of Justice: You have a desire to see evil punished; which had lead to many in your line becomes bounty hunters, vigilantes, or officers of the law. Hunters can never bring themselves to kill an innocent- mortal laws do not dictate what is right or wrong for them. Rather the nature of the heart with in an individual determines innocence.
  • Hunter's Awareness: You can detect the general location of any individual you have been in contact with in the last 42 hours. You are not aware of the specifics, but you have the direction in your mind.
  • Weapon Affinity: Hunters have an affinity for throwing knives, bows, crossbows, and fire arms. The Stoker branch, for example, are known for their unnatural knife throwing abilities.

Magoosai
Yours is an Inuit line descended from the Shaman Magoosai, who guided his best friend, along side his future lover to the paradise of Sarila so his tribe would no longer go hungry. In doing so he learned of the darkness the current Shaman, disheartened at the lose of his son, had become. For the Shaman had pledged himself to the lord of darkness; thus why the tribe had been starving. Upon returning to his people with food from Sarila Magoosai defeated the evil Shaman in a duel of the spirits with in a tempest.

  • Removing Fog: The Magoosai line can lift away fog with in three meters of themselves.
  • Fae Speak: Magoosai can speak with and understand all creatures who dwell upon the land.
  • Animal Empathy: The Magoosai line can feel animals around them; and sense their conditions- may they be injured, healthy, scared, or content.
  • Bone-mancy: Dead bone can be moved by the Magoosai simply with thought. Items made of bone can move under the Magoosai's influence.

Maghreb -WIP- (details may change)
Image
Ancestors: Jafar of the Maghreb the Vizer of Agrabah through his son who was to wed Princesss Jasmine Boulbadour
Aladdin was recruited by your Sorcerer ancestor, Jafar, to obtain a lamp, and was provided a magic ring to do so. How ever the plan went foul, and Jafar assumed Aladdin dead, and the Lamp and ring lost. But that was not so, and Aladdin appeared years latter in Agrabah where he used the lamp to create a new palace for the sultan who impressed turned down the Vizer's sons proposition to be wed to the Sultans daughter. Instead, Aladdin's offer was accepted. When the Vizer got word from his son about what had happened he went to see for himself, and recognized Aladdin for the Sorcerer and Vizer where the same. What followed was a series of events that resulted in both Jafar's death, and the death of Jafar's brother. Since that time your family has been attempted to recover the magic ring of the family, the lamp, and another lamp which houses a Djinn and had been in your families possession. In your favor are the powers of Sorcerery, a power the bloodline of Aladdin lacks- but even with this advantage the Maghreb seem to always be behind.

  • Serpentine Form:
  • Teleportation:

Musician
Your lineage is that of musicians, a passion for music like no other, attracting attention both good and bad, with an extreme affiliation to manipulation through music. Among the very first musicians, a piper, who was well-known in Hamlin for driving out its rat infestations. Next, a fiddler, who by playing his instrument attracted a company of animals, that he manipulated to get away from them.

  • Natural: Gifted in the musical arts, you excel at playing a single instrument of choice.
  • Beautiful Sound: Anytime you play an instrument of your choice, it plays such an alluring tune, that it attracts attention. Desired or not.
  • Music of Command: Your natural talent with music has come with a metaphysical understanding of it's effect upon the simple minded from animals to children (5-13 years of age). With 'simple' notes you can have such entities do your bidding, no matter the cost to themselves.
  • Scorn of the Ill Handed: You like to make deals, especially deals that allow you to preform your music as some service. Like any service, it comes with a price, and should any one dare not fulfill their end of the bargain, your more then willing to take vengeance for receiving the short end.

Red
Image
Ancestor: Red Cap

  • Conceal: You have nack for hiding your face, and remaining out of sight. It's likely you where very good at hide, and go seek.
  • Quick Heeled: Reds can turn on a dime while on the run in an unnatural kind of way.

Sleeper
Ancestor: Sleeping Beauity

  • Prone to Narcalepsy: While not everyone of the line suffers Narcalepsy they are prone to have it.
  • Guarded Sleep: None may harm a Sleeper while the sleep, and even their bodies do not age when they slumber. Hardly any noise can stir them- hurricanes, tornadoes- they can sleep though these events and survive- so long as they do not awake in a condition that can kill them; submerged or crushed for exampe- they'll be just fine.

Wolf
Image
Ancestor: Big Bad Wolf aka Old Grey Head
Yours is a lineage of savagery, and lust; of predator, and prey. Your ancestor's name has long sense been forgotten, or locked away in vaults of lore. All he is known by, is The Big Bad Wolf, or Old Greyhead by his neighbors. He was always lusting for something; most often for prey. From sheep, pigs, to young women. The latter of which, lead to his demise, though not before he sowed a few wild oats.

  • The Beast I Am: Your human form is merely a guise to make others comfortable around you; you are actually a large wolf. When in your natural form you receive all the attributes associated with the Grey Wolf.
  • I See Red: Red is a color that stands out to you; for all others are dull; almost grey to your sight.
  • I Hunger: You have a high metabolic rate which means you process energy from food, primarily meat, faster then others. You tend to get a cravings for red meat; such as pork- or at times mutton- assuming you've ever tried the flesh of a lamb. It's a flavor that's hard to forget.

Note: Mixed bloodlines, it is possible to share the traits of two different blood lines, but only two different bloodlines. When a character does share the traits of two bloodlines they receive all the traits held by both bloodlines, including weaknesses.

Suggestions: Have a mixture of common personality traits mixed in with physical characteristics. Do note that personality traits are tendencies, not absolutes. A wolf can suppress aspects of their nature as part of their nurture- the drives still exist, but the wolf has chosen to repress those drives. All personality quirks of the bloodlines follow this logic.

So I haven't been in an RP like this before and my primary experience is with Sisters Grimm and the whole Scarlet Hand story line which I personally love, would there be room for that?

Just a background, Scarlet Hand is a terrorist organization of fairy tale villains who want to destroy the barrier containing magical from the regular/boring humans and enslave them.
Once a Upon a Time is cool though, so I'm assuming we will be playing as descendants of fairy tale beings like in your fairly modern Grimm rp?

You will indeed be playing the descendant of a fairy tale being living in a modern day setting (like the show Once Upon a Time). The origin of this RP series lies in Grimm, Happily Every After High, Once Upon a Time, and Wolf Among Us. All four of those have a similar set up.

In Fairly Modern Grimm your character is part of a bloodline, and that bloodline not only grants you some interesting powers (usually) but also some personality compulsions. For example,

The current Apple bloodline is a rework of the first RP's Grimhilde bloodline. The Apples are descended from Apple White, the Daughter of Snow White, who was the daughter of Queen Grimhilde (the witch queen). The Apples have a green thumb when it comes to the crop of Apples, and a knack for Alchemy, but also are plagued by vanity, and jealousy.

Basically my idea is the head of a land-development company that has recently arrived in town. They claim to be here to build a new condo complex but they may be actually searching for some kind of artifact. Is that okay?

Yes :)

At the moment we are thinking of going back to the Avalon and Grimmsdale settings; so both towns will be in play. One of the new lines being considered for this RP is the Maghed.

The Maghed are decended from the Sorcerer Vizer of the Aladdin tales. Their ancestor use to possess a magical ring, and a lamp (his housing a Djinn). The Sorcerer sought to obtain another lamp from china, and it was there he met Aladdin. Tricking the boy's mother into believing himself to be a distant relative he manipulated the young lad into a dangerous delve into a cavern, and provided him with a magic ring to assist in the recovery of the lamp- but things didn't go so well. He didn't get the lamp, and the cave collapsed. Inside Alladin discovered the lamp's secret, a Genie.

Aladdin went from peasant to successful merchant quickly. He traveled east and met the Sultan of Agrabah, and the Sultan's daughter Jasmine Boulbadour who was betroved to the Sorcerers son. Aladdin ended up winning Boulbadour's heart, and impressing the sultan with a new palace. The sorcerer recognized the new comer, and angered by his possession of the lamp, and how his plans for family power where foiled by Aladdin-

Well- you can look at Wikipedia for an overview of the story, and what happened.

The main point here is that the Maghed still seek the Ring, and both Lamps as they believe this relics to belong to them. The Boulbadour family hides these relics from the Maghed, and the world due to the power contained in those relics.

Would a Maghed character interest you?

Sure. Is it also okay if he uses his employees as henchmen? Also, do you have any good ideas for a company name that hints about his bloodline?

Hey Harb, did you know there's another Snow White story called ''Snow-White and Rose-Red'' (also known as the Ungrateful Dwarf) and in my head-canon I like to see it as a prequel to Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Apparently Snow White had a sister called Rose-Red who was much more lively and extroverted.

Perhaps Rose-Red could have a lesser know bloodline? Of course the story itself contradicts Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (both sisters being the children of a poor widowed mother rather than a Queen) but I think some editing could be made to explain this.

Also I've been reading the synopsis of a very interesting fairy tale called The Golden Key which even makes a reference to the original version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears called Silverhair or ''The Story of the Three Bears'' and.... its given me a few ideas I'd like to put out in the air to suggest.

The implication of fairy tale bloodlines in the modern world is that of a secret mythology that perhaps we could all collectively develop. What if there at some point existed non-human fairy tale creatures like, well, fairies and giants and dwarves. Of course by modern times they're all either extinct or believed extinct so this would be more relevant towards expanding the FMG lore rather than the RP storyline itself.

But perhaps some relics could remain, for e.g. non-functional magic beans in possession of Grimm families and other such artifacts - or is that a bad idea?

No 8) Otherwise it would be a Once Upon a Time RP and it's not. It's separate from that (and I've been behind on the show so I wouldn't be qualified to host an OUaT RP). Additionally, the characters are descendants in this RP where as in OUaT they are the characters. I wont allow one to play an actual character from folk lore.

However, your character can be deeply based on one from the TV show.

Sure. Is it also okay if he uses his employees as henchmen? Also, do you have any good ideas for a company name that hints about his bloodline?

Your character can indeed use his employees as henchmen, and I hope he is wise enough to select those who can be trusted with such a task. I think Vizor International will work for a name or Illumination Excavation- where the company has a reputation for archaeological patronage. Of course it'd need some historical reason for operating near Grimmsdale- OH! Perhaps some Native American sites. Thus would be the cover- maybe- hm.. maybe Vizor International is the more rounded idea.. do you have any ideas?

Islamic Republic e Jariri wrote:Hey Harb, did you know there's another Snow White story called ''Snow-White and Rose-Red'' (also known as the Ungrateful Dwarf) and in my head-canon I like to see it as a prequel to Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

Snow White and Red Rose could be the story of a descendent- much like how their are various stories of the three little pigs. In FMG it's explained as being about different pigs and different wolves.

Alternatively, if it is Snow White in both stories then the explanation is simple-

Their mother, the widow, caught the eye of a member of royalty, who by the time Snow was a young woman rather then a little girl had passed on. Leaving the mother to rule the kingdom.

Would a Pinocchio style character who failed in his quest to become a human, and is now grown up to be a common criminal be acceptable ?

eh...

During the first RP (link in the OP Post) someone petitioned to play such a character. Back then I was permitting players to create bloodlines. The line became known as the Animus.

I had issue with it because- bloodline, and, well, dolls don't have blood or any other construct and the idea of them even after years not being quite human was disturbing to me.

If one has seen an episode of Thriller, I think it was called, the House of Wax or Wax Works one could understand how it's disturbing. If you can come up with a different approach to the line then, well, what Animus was, then I'll consider the proposal. If not then thinking of another character is suggested.

Heh... *processing* *processing*

Sounds like it would have been an interesting RP because of the comic-folk lore mix. Plus, Rumplestilken and Red Skull hahha dang- that'd be a team up that'd end- in betrayal (considering Rumplestilken and Red Skull). But one that'd do some horrid harm.

Um... what character from OUAT did you have in mind?

I think Vizor Internation is a good name. Also, I said they arrived in town to build condos while using the site as a cover to search for the lamp and rings. Also, my guy could possibly have a feud with a surviving member of Aladdin's bloodline.
