Tobacco Use Discussion Thread

Postby Ructar » Sun Sep 11, 2016 6:52 pm

"There's nothing quite like tobacco: it's the passion of decent folk, and whoever lives without tobacco doesn't deserve to live"

Wonderful, now that I have your attention I wanted to know how NS feels about tobacco use. Before I continue, I recognize that tobacco isn't necessarily good for you and I am not encouraging anyone to use tobacco.

So, what do you think of tobacco use? How do you use your tobacco?

Feel free to discuss any stories or other relevant information about tobacco.

Being the OP I'll start, I've been dipping/chewing tobacco for two years so far and I love it, what about you guys?

I do not do it, though I would be interested in getting a pipe when I'm old enough. :D

I'm not old enough to legally smoke/use tobacco products.

However, considering it's addictive cancer causing shit, I don't intend on using it.

I do recognize that it causes cancer, but I also have noticed that a lot of the studies that have been conducted typically tend to be over-exaggerated. For instance, a lot of sources tend to say that dipping tobacco contains fiberglass when it has been proven that it is sugar/salt.

Still, with the bevy of poisonous chemicals and gases, not to mention there's trace amounts of polonium-210, I'll definitely pass. I've been through a lot of smokers in China, whether in restaurants, in public places, in bathrooms, and even in a hospital.

Well, it's great as long as you don't mind exposing yourself and possibly others to carcinogens.

What are your thoughts on smokeless tobacco?

(i.e, Snus, Dip, Chew, Nasal Snuff, Plug Tobacco, Twist Tobbaco)

Turkish tobacco blends smoke best and usually aren't cured with all the chemical crap to bring it market faster. For pipes and hookahs a nice Cavendish leaf cut. As does a premium whiskey or cognac dipped cigar.

Ah. Peer pressure. To think such disgusting habits can occur, simply because people are desperate for social approval.

Both in general and as a former asthmatic, I don't really care if you smoke or not, as long as you keep the smoke the fuck out of my face.

I'd argue that tobacco is much more relaxing than products with THC, if thats what you mean. Its different for everyone, but in my experience, smoking shit like marijuana just makes me paranoid and anxious.

Yes, it's highly subjective, and your experience is not uncommon. Maybe try a different strand or weed with more CBD.

I have asthma yet I still long for that comforting warmth.

I thinkAmerican tobacco is tainted with "enhancers" which makes them more dangerous than what is smoked in Europe and the Mideast.

"It i's well-known that Europeans like to smoke. A recent European Commission survey (PDF) showed that 28% of Europeans light up, while this week's MMWR from the CDC indicates that 19% of Americans smoke. Therefore, one would predict that more Europeans die from smoking than Americans. But, you would be wrong.

In the EU, about 695,000 people die annually from what the EC report calls "tobacco-related causes." (The report also examined tobacco products other than cigarettes.) Roughly 503 million people live in the EU, meaning that the mortality rate due to tobacco is 138 deaths per 100,000 people.

In the U.S., about 443,000 people die from what the CDC report calls "smoking-related illnesses." (The report focused exclusively on cigarettes.) But, the population of the U.S. is much lower than the EU, about 315 million people. That means the mortality rate due to smoking is 141 deaths per 100,000 people. That's 3 more deaths per 100,000 people than Europe -- despite the fact that more Europeans smoke!"
http://www.realclearscience.com/journal ... 06403.html

“Not all cigarettes are made alike” says Dr. Jim Pirkle, deputy director for science at the CDC’s National Center for Environmental Health. He says this is the first study to show that “U.S. cigarettes have more of the major carcinogen [TSNAs] than foreign made cigarettes." TSNAs are “tobacco-specific nitrosamines,” the major cancer-causing substance in tobacco.

If it were not for asthma, I would still be smoking English Ovals and Herbert Tareytons. I like the mellow rich flavor.

I've considered using it because it looks cool in movies when people light up a cigarette before making a really serious point.

Do you consider vaping to be tobacco use? The FDA wrongly believes so since it will soon be regulated as tobacco.

No. Vaping is not tobacco use.
