Driving in YN

Postby Huswyae » Sat Aug 27, 2016 3:22 am

Huswyae's driving laws are the strictest in the world. We drive on the left, which is often the only thing car enthusiasts think about Huswyae. The speed limit in residential areas depends on the plane's classification. In cities, the speed limit is 65km/h, in towns it is 50km/h, and in villages it is 35km/h.

On the highways, speed limit depends on where you are. All highways have 3 lanes each side, and each lane has a different speed limit which ALL cars must drive at otherwise they face a hefty fine for driving too slow. The lane closest to the other side of the road is the lane used for long distance, and on this lane there is no speed limit. On the lane that is in the centre of the road the speed limit is 195km/h. On the lane closest to the exits, the speed limit is 115km/h.

Our highways always start with the letter H (which stands for Huswyae, not for Highway) and then a number. The longest is the H1 (Huswyae 1) which, if we talk mathematically, never ends, however the KM marker resets in front of the Libertas II Tower (where our government meets) in Lacrott City.
The Libertarian Provinces of Huswyae
We are Huswyae. We are an advanced nation and one of the most developed an successful in existence. But don't let this fool you, we are dodgier than we look. Corporations are allowed to veto laws they do not support. Half of our politicians are members of anonymous. Tell us we aren't corrupt!
We are libertarian, right-wing, Fiscally conservative, and capitalist. The current ruling party is Libertarian Capita, therefore Huswyae does represent my political beliefs! Proud Right-Libertarian nation!
It is pronounced Huss-wye.

We drive on the left, and there are no speed limits whatsoever. Pavements are always raised above roads and this prevents the need for traffic lights, when they are by the roads, pavements have lifts that lead to overhead bridges that cross the roads, eliminating the need for traffic lights.

All highways have at least 4 lanes on each side, with the usual being 7 lanes

The General Office
The Board of Roads

In Nortend, the road rules are somewhat different to that of other countries. In a country where there are fewer than 200,000 motor cars, vans and lorries, and around 40,000 motor omnibuses, yet more than four million registered carriages, coaches, traps and other drawn wagons, though only a fraction of them would be harnessed at the same time, it stands to reason that the rules of the road should apply to both motorised and horse-drawn traffic. In fact, all vehicles on streets are required to follow the road rules.

In Nortend, all vehicles with vehicles coming towards them must pass on the left side of the oncoming. This is why Nortend is said to drive on the left however on unmarked roads, provided there is no other traffic, a vehicle may drive anywhere on the road.

Goods in Nortend do not typically go by road, nor do people travelling often travel in private vehicles. There are a few main arterial roads in the country, built before the age of railways, and a secondary network of narrow local country lanes and roads. The railways and canals of Nortend are reliable and expansive and there is hence no demand nor desire for more roads. Country roads and lanes are often little more than dirt or gravel paths. Roads and streets in villages, cities and towns are usually surfaced with cobblestones or setts in order to provide a good surface for horse-drawn traffic.
In areas of great traffic volume, such as in towns and cities, there are often measures in place to regulate the traffic apart from simple traffic rules. Policemen and policewomen are located at busy intersections and direct the traffic using hand-signals in the day and lamps in the night. Road signs are also located throughout the country, for the benefit of both horse-drawn and motorised vehicles. All signs have black and white striped poles. Warning signs are surmounted with a red open triangle, order signs by a red open circle and prohibitory signs by a solid red circle. Halt signs are either a solid red circle or an open triangle in an open circle, and give way signs red circles with the words 'GIVE WAY' written upon them. Some foreigners question the need for road signs in a country where motor vehicles are rare, but the road signs in Nortend are of great important for horse-drawn traffic as well, which can be hard to stop when at high speed, especially at high speed and heavily laden.

Driving any motorised vehicle, requires a driving licence of which there are three orders. A cheapest order, the third order driving licence, allows a maximum speed of 25 mph for all motor vehicles. This is the most common licence. A second order licence allows a maximum speed of 38 mph for motor vehicles both in and out of built up areas. A first class licence, the most expensive, allows the maximum speed of 50 mph out of built up areas, and 38 mph in built up areas for motor vehicles.

Driving is an expensive pursuit, and is far too costly for a typical person. Driving licences and motor cars cost a great deal of money, and thus means it is generally only the upper class and aristocracy who have them. People that own horses and carriages in towns and cities typically keep them in either public stables or private mews. Nevertheless, most families dwelling in the towns do not own a horse or carriage and either walk or ride a bicycle to get around. Even the middle class typically no longer have coachmen or liverymen, and rely on the stable’s stable-hands and drivers to look after their horses and carriages, and to drive them when needed. On the other hand, in the rural agricultural countryside, most people live on farms and thus own one or two working draught horses.

In the JSR, speeding is a hefty fine.

There are usually 3 lanes on either side, and 2 in residential areas. We drive on the right.

driving is usually done by people operating public vehicles such as buses, taxis and motorized tricycles and not by private cars. this is because of the government grossly exaggerating car accidents in propaganda in order to fadriotho some sort of prestige and edge over the autobahn. as such, due to the much fewer cars as well as actually experienced and smart drivers, car accidents are much fewer than even those found in the autobahn.

our roads are just a shameful exact copy of the autobahn in short, with public transport instead of private transport. there are no speed limits unless in certain areas; the right is used strictly for passing or turning, and passing a car in the passing lane in either the middle or left lane is illegal.

Laws on Driving

1) The Standard Direction is on the Right-Side of the road (With the exception of The Falklands and St. Martin).

2) Driving any motorized vehicle requires a license which can be received through passing a test at the age of 18 or through a graduated licensing program that can receive full permits by the age of 16

3) The various Republics set there own speeding laws and basic traffic laws. All are set in Kilometers.

4) The Federation's Highway-Five lane highway with no speed limit, similar to the Autobahn, that runs from Rio Gallegos in Argentinian Republic to as far as Anchorage, Alaska. It runs to most major cities along the way.

Rikana drives on the left side of the road, regardless of whether the road is marked or not. The average Rikanan family typically owns a single sedan, since according to the State Law on Traffic and Land Transportation a family may own up to only two cars at a time. Hence, traffic jams are a rare occurrence in Rikana's streets and traffic accidents could be minimized.

Strict speed limits are applied throughout the State. In suburban and rural areas, the speed limit is 30-40 km/h, in towns and cities the limit is 60 km/h, and on highways the speed limits differ. Most highways in Rikana have four lanes, the leftmost lane being used only in the event of an emergency or to exit the highway. The two middle lanes has a speed limit of 90 km/h, though the centre-left lane are prioritized for large motorised vehicles such as trucks and buses. The rightmost lane has a speed limit of 120 km/h and is used for overtaking slower vehicles.

Image
Highway SH-04 in Mitrakar, Rikana.

The Traffic Police branch of the Rikanan State Police enforces the State Traffic laws and constantly monitors major intersections and highways. Traffic policemen in Rikana are armed, and the average 2-man patrol stationed in major roads and highways are typically issued with a Nissan GT-R R35 unit modified for police use. Should a vehicle drive too slow that it impacts the overall traffic on a street or highway lane, a patrol may issue a warning that the said vehicle must drive faster. The same applies to a vehicle driving way past (>15 km/h) the speed limit.

To have a B-driving license (a license for the cars) you must 16 years old (with motor limitation, max 80 kw of power), from 18 yo you can drive all car under 3500 kg.

De Jure every canton have own road law, with own limits, abut all canton decided to mantain o common speed limits to not create confution to the driver

The principal road have number form (1-99) and no have a differencation of the number from Highway and Confederal Road (for example there are Highway n 1, doesen't exixts a "Confederal Road n. 1, and where a case tha a Highway can trasform in a Confederal Road or reverese, for exampol the Road number 7, these begin in Alinghi Stadt as Highway n 7, adn end a Gabris, and this road becan a Confederal Road n. 7, and end a Bechalburg)
Also where are a Secondary Confederal Road, the connect the principal Confederal Roads and to know that are the princial road's connected you can wath the number (ex. a road connect fron the CR n 47 an CR n53, the secondary road can be called: CR n. 473 o 453 or 753 or 537 or 534)
The Motorway road sign have a green background color, the extraurban (Confederal Road & Cantonal Road) have a bule back ground, and the urban road have a white background color (with black font)
For the motorway and Confederal Road (primary and secondary) not have a letter before the number (in the road sign you can find onliest the number), in the cantonal road before the number you can fin il smaller font in hinh the cantonal bigram (ex AH 14 or DZ 35)

Speed limit:

- 150 km/h (93.21 mph): Motorway
- 130 km/h (80.77 mph): Four-lane (Two lane for sense and separated by a wall) Confederal Road without a X-cross.
- 110 km/h (68.35 mph): Two-lane (one for sense) Confederal Roads without X-Cross
- 90 km/h (55.92 mph): Other Confederal-Road
- Cantonal Road are decided a discrection of the canton... (60-110 km/h)
- 30 km/h (18.64 mph) - 50 km/h (31.06 mph): In urban road (30 or 50 depends from cantons)

We drive on right side of the road

In New Lyrane, vehicles drive on the left. There are hardly any privately-owned motor vehicles unless one counts agricultural tractors.

There are no general speed limits outside of built-up areas. This is because most highways are in such wretched shape, nobody dares drive very fast. Even 40 re/to (about 90 km/h or 55 mph) would be recklessly fast on all but a few of the best roads.

In built-up areas, the general speed limit is 20 re/to (44.6429 km/h or 27.7457 mph). Other limits are posted where applicable. Roadworks usually have a 15 re/to (about 33 km/h or 21 mph) limit.

There is a required 1 motorcycle for every 2 eligible citizens. Driving motorcycles is allowed at age 14, and driving cars is allowed at age 16. To buy a car, you must either work for the government, or submit a government application, which are approved roughly 50% of the time.

Speed limits on small streets are 25 mph, on larger streets 35 to 40 mph, and on highways 55 mph, although those are very rarely enforced outside of major cities.

It is illegal - in fact, it is treason - to harbor any machine that is of a form used by the (G1) Autobots. It is high treason to have such a thing as one's own alt mode. In short, you are committing a high crime if you own or become a car or truck.

This is heavily enforced on the home world Planet Cybertron, where the Great War against the Autobots raged for centuries. Although the Autobots are extinct now, most people on this planet will immediately blast any car or truck they see, just in case. Needless to say, there is no driving here. Everyone either walks or uses their plane (or other flying) alt-mode to get places.

On our other planets, the law against Autobot-looking things is still present, but Domestic Intelligence might decide to turn a blind eye - especially if you're a high-ranking military officer or similarly respected person. There, the roads are unmaintained except on private estates, and there are no laws concerning driving (unless some DomIntel agent gets a stick up his exhaust and wants to do an offworld car owner up for Harboring a Potential Autobot). Fortunately, even on the outer worlds, there are hardly any ground-bound vehicles. This makes it quite safe to drive, at least when it comes to the likelihood of accidents. However, if a veteran of the Great War sees a car in Decepticon territory, he is still likely to open fire, so you'd best watch out for that.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Decepticons as a people are far less against the concept of driving as one might think, and will do it readily if they are in a country with cars and are using bodies small enough to fit inside them. However, they are very much against the concept of rules and laws, including ones meant for the road. Compounding this is the fact that we usually have navigation modules that allow us to automatically flight-maneuver data at extreme speeds (this is how we can perform extreme aerobatic maneuvers with ease), and we can easily adapt these dedicated motion-data units to work for driving.
These things add up to the fact that if a Decepticon goes to a foreign place, he will drive as fast as the car will go, wherever it can fit (including the "wrong" side of the road if there's an opening there), without a care in the universe for local laws - yet manage to avoid cracking up the car regardless of any obstacles. He will also be very angry if someone calls his 200-mph swerving between other vehicles "reckless." Rest assured, when he is using his Navigation Module, he knows EXACTLY what he is doing and there is nothing reckless about it. It only seems that way because the mere humans (or other biologicals) around him can't hope to process motion-related information quickly enough to duplicate his module-assisted prowess, so they see grave danger in actions that we find totally safe. It also gives foreign traffic cops fits, especially when we easily elude them.
And for the record, yes - everyone has a Navigation Module now. The basic-level component was entered into the Minimum Design Specification for the Decepticon Body about 5 years ago. Upgraded versions are also common.
In the Celistiant Nation. You don't need classes or license or fees to drive on the roads. Especially if you built your own car. Either by scratch or from a kit.
Typical driving rules are observed. Drive on the right, pass on the left, 4-way stops, yield for school buses, etc...
Somewhere between 97% to 99% of the driven automobiles are layered with bullet-proof armor and machine-guns. (God help the remaining 1 - 3% who aren't)
Violence on the road is pleasantly low despite the volume of war-gear on the road only because everyone else wants to get home alive.
"An armed roadway is a polite roadway."
While The Celistiant Nation has unlimited speed roads, (and this is very explicit on highways between cities and towns) the speed-limit in towns are enforced simply by making high-speed driving unavailable. In towns and cities, roads are built as winding and curving, and hardly straight. Keeping the driving speed to around 20mph to 35mph.
Roads are kept in good condition in two ways, the obvious government road funds, then private charities/churches/V-8 Cults who "Adopt A Highway" They pledge to maintain a stretch of road in trade to not paying taxes.
In Proticata people drive on the right and metric units are used the driving tests are very strict and teach drivers to react in different situations. People aged 70+ have to to take yearly refreshers to check of they are still fit to drive.
The speedlimit in built-up areas is 50 km/h for all vehicles, for rural roads it is 100 km/h for cars and 80 km/h for trucks and highways 130 km/h for cars and 100km/h for trucks.
There's also no such thing as parking tickets in Devernia, so don't buy a house with a gate if you want to live in Devernia. Otherwise, you'll have cars blocking it every time. It is also the country where self-driving cars are as legal as any other car, likely due to the government's promotion of technology.
Since Devernia is an archipelago, there is no highway that connects any two island. Devernia's highways are similar to the Autobahn in real life, even going so far as no-speed limits for half of the island's highways (though this is typical in most Melhorian Sea countries.) Only Granik and Koskania practice speed limits.
Pantopia's large auto industry and intricate network of Freeways, highways, and roads make it a driver's Paradise. Freeways and highways are both numbered. Pantopia's road network draws heavily from US influences, and mede the switch from driving on the left to driving on the right in 1960. Driving on a large highway In the country, speed limits are almost non existent, although there is a recommended speed of 75 mph. when the highway goes through a town, the speed limit is usually around 65 mph, and in major metropolises, 60-55 mph depending on the size of the highway. Interchanges rather than intersections are quite common on large avenues, to alleviate the urban area's traffic problems. Pantopia's sprawling cities make driving the best option to get around.
Drivers in Ventalia are terrifying - they aren't particularly bad, just very impatient. Honking, tailgating, and Mad-Max-esque road rage are not uncommon, especially when a driver hogs the fast-lane and doesn't overtake in due haste or return to a slower lane. Autonomous and semi-autonomous cars are readily available, largely due to market demand for a way to take the danger and fear out of driving. Ventalia drives on the right and requires a driver's license which can be obtained after a nominal test of a driver's vehicular knowledge.
Speed limits on multi-lane highways are generally "unlimited" on good days, though accidents and inclement weather may result in the imposition of speed limits; overhead digital signs will display any such limit. Vehicles with visible rust holes or a top speed less than 100km/h are prohibited from driving on these highways. Transport trucks may not occupy the inner-most (fast) lane except in cases of emergency and/or accident avoidance. Legislators are considering a law to further restrict access of these highways to only autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles in a bid to reduce congestion and accidents.
Rural/county highways typically have limits between 60km/h and 100km/h, depending on the engineering and safety of the road. Local authorities may set limits within their jurisdictions and urban areas typically have limits from 20km/h to 50km/h, again depending on the dynamics of the road in question.
Not for the faint of heart. Nusarese people are polite folk and are all smiles, and are well known for excellent hosts... until you meet them on the road. Get ready to build thick skin as drivers hurl insults at 100 km/h while cutting you off to exit. Many attribute this crass behavior to the excessive amount of road rules and the lack of enforcement of said rules. As a result one is to go with the 'flow' of the traffic and make it clear and as assertive as possible that one is turning, u-turning, exiting a highway, etc. Traffic is bad.
The legal age is 17. For highway driving it is 20.
Texting and driving is a punishable offense up to $10,000 USD fine or $500 USD fine and 5 strokes of the cane.
Drunk driving is punishable offense of 5 years jail time and 20 strokes of the cane.
Speeding and reckless driving is punishable by proportional fine to one's monthly income. Very rarely enforced.
Drives on the left.
Krisville drives on the left. The legal driving age is 15. Highways have 2 lanes on each side when separated by a meridian, 1 on each side otherwise, and 6 lanes on each each side in hurricane-prone areas. Interislands have varying lanes, from 2 to 4. In the city of Aggiaser, HOV cars are in 2 separate lanes. Semis have to stay out of the lanes 3-5. Exits are designed to have cars at the limit for 1/4 of the exit.
Highways have the black-and-white version of the nation, and are numbered 1-100 for regulars. Interstates have the state seal and the same numbering process.
In Ulan-Ata, we drive on the right. However, the driving style of the average Ulan-Atan is a catastrophe.
You can get a driver's license at 17 years of age.
Usual speed limits:
Urban areas: 60 km/h (35 mph)
Secondary roads: 90 km/h (55 mph)
Hayaimichi (highway): 100 km/h (60 mph) if one-lane, 120 km/h (80 mph) if two-lane
Autoput (freeway): 130 km/h (85 mph)
By the way, this was a joke. Speed limit enforcement is little to none, so they are ignored. Drive as fast as you want. (But don't get spotted texting and driving - even if you survive this, you're gonna pay. And that's not funny.)
In Gandoor, we drive on the right and the minimum age for getting a license is 15.
We have no speed limits on highways, but main roads have a speed limit of 55 km/h and built-up areas have a limit of 60 km/h.
Any form of distracted driving, excepting hands-free calling, is illegal.
