The Auxhaven-Cuba Conflict

Background
Soon after the success of the Cuban Revolution, militant counter-revolutionary groups developed in an attempt to overthrow the new regime. These dissidents were funded and armed by various foreign sources, but all seemed to fail. An unfortunate event that took place in Cuba, which left 28 people dead and more injured, caught the attention of the Auxhaven. Eventually, the idea of overthrowing Castro's administration was proposed in the Auxhaven Ministry of Intelligence. Will Auxhaven suffer the same fate as others before? Or will Auxhaven succeed in overthrowing Castro? No-one knows, only time will tell.

Rules
This RP will be conducted by ONLY by Auxhaven and The Syrian State. The Syrian State will be acting as Cuba.

Auxhaven Ministry of Intelligence
March 2011

The room was silent. The haze to tobacco smoke gave the room a more harrowing atmosphere. The conference room was small, considering that there was twelve people in it. There were no windows, and only one large wooden door. Prime Minister James Trenton sat at the tip of the oval table, with a glass of scotch in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Everyone seemed to be looking at him anxiously.

"Alright", James said, breaking the silence. "So what is your plan Mr. Harper?", Lucas Harper, head of the Intelligence Ministry, would adjust his glasses and look back at his papers. "Well, your excellency, it would start with supplying rebels and counter-revolutionary militants and having them either start a mass revolt, or they overthrow the current regime. Then, we step in and claim Cuba as rightfully part of the Commonwealth". James would be standing up by now and staring at the map of Cuba on the telescreen.

"And if the rebels fail?" James said, still looking at the screen. This time a different voice spoke up, it was General Vincent Drazov, Chief of the General Staff, "We launch a full scale invasion on claims that they are committing crimes against humanity". The Prime Minister turned around and doused his cigarette, "Full scale invasion. Hm. Is Cuba really that important?" he said, still looking at the table. Drazov spoke up again "Your excellency, if we let Cuba continue without intervention, they could spread like wildfire and then we will see most of South America become oppressed by communism. The threat must be removed".

James would sit back down while lighting another cigarette. He would remain silent while thinking. "Ok", he finally said, looking at General Drazov. "Make it happen General". Gen. Drazov would nod at James slowly. "This meeting is dismissed" James would say. The other ministers and officials would clear out of the room. "General Drazov, could you stay a moment please?" the Prime Minister said, pouring another drink.

"Do you realize why I am supporting this plan?" James would say, standing up. "Apparently not", the General would reply calmly. James would stay quiet for a moment, staring at the map of Cuba again. "You see, Cuba is an important strategic position in South America." He would say. General Drazov remained quiet, but seemed intrigued. "It provides access points for the Gulf and the Atlantic Ocean. And in a case of war, we could threaten trade routes with other South American powers."

"So", General Drazov would say, "That is your motive..."

Auxhaven Ministry of Defense
March 2011

After the meeting with the Prime Minister, General Victor Drazov went back to the Ministry of Defense building to prepare. It was late at night, so very few people were in the building. When he arrived, security let him through and he proceeded to the stairs. Upon reaching his office, he took off his jacket and hat and sat in his chair, releasing a relived sigh. His office was silent until he heard a voice.

"General Drazov?", the voice said. Victor was startled and grabbed for his pistol, which conveniently wasn't at his side. The man emerged from the dark portion of the office. It was Morris Hatfield, the leader of the Communist Party in Auxhaven. "How the hell did you get in here?", Victor said, still startled. "I have my ways", Morris said, sitting down across from Victor. "So, I hear you are preparing for an operation", Morris said, helping himself to a cigarette. "Don't deny it, General, I know", Morris added, while looking around the office. He would get up an inspect some medals and plaques on the wall. "Nice office", Morris said sarcastically.

"What do you want Mister Hatfield?" Victor finally said, with a stern tone. Morris turned around and started walking back to his chair. "General, I don't like your motives for having a conflict with Cuba, but i'm willing to work with you on this." Victor would remain silent, waiting for Morris to continue. "We can both benefit from this. So, my proposition to you, is that you will continue with your plan, and remove Raúl Castro from office. But, if successful, I want you to install a candidate of my choice as the new Governor of Cuba."

The General laughed, "That's ridiculous, only the Council of State can appoint a Governor. Either way, why should I listen to you?" Morris took out an envelope from his coat pocket, set it on the table and slid it slowly across the desk. Victor looked at the envelope hesitantly, then back to Morris. "Open it", Morris said smiling slightly. Victor took the envelope, opened it and inspected the contents. It was filled with Auxhaveish money. With a satisfied look, Victor set the envelope back on the desk. "Do we have a deal, General?" Morris would say, dousing his cigarette. Victor would remain quiet for a few seconds. "I'm sure I can make things work out", he then said contently. "Good, but if you don't follow through with our deal, you know very well what the consequences will be", Morris said, getting out of his chair and heading for the door. "One question, Mister Hatfield", Victor said, leaning back in his chair, "Why?"

Morris smiled. "It's all part of a plan, General, It's all a part of a plan"

The Straits of Florida
April, 2011

Everything was ready. The preparations that took weeks to plan and finalize were completed. In Miami, Florida, Auxhaveish seaborne assault troops, along with volunteers boarded the transport ships. During a quiet and gloomy night in April, a mock diversionary landing was organized by MoI operatives near Bahia de Matanzas. A small ship convoy containing three Destroyers and two transport ships lurked around the bay, giving the appearance that a shipborne invasion landing was imminent. This was, however, made to to lure Cuban forces away from the Havana Port.

At about 01:00 on April, 2001, two MoI operation teams entered the Havana Port on the Northern coast of Cuba. They headed a force of five transport ships carrying about 2,500 Cuban rebels, Auxhaveish Volunteers and counter-revolutionary militants, plus tanks and other vehicles in the landing craft. At about 01:00, the battlefield command ship directed the principal landing at the Havana Port, led by Auxhaveish seaborne assault (ASA) reams in rubber boats followed by troops in small aluminium boats. Another ship similarly landed troops 35 km further northwest at Mariel. Unloading troops went quickly and swiftly. As the ASA teams came in, they were shocked to discover that the lights in Port Havana were lit, but the plans didn't change. As the ASA teams landed, a firefight broke out when a truck carrying Cuban soldiers on patrol spotted them. The few militia in the area succeeded in warning Cuban armed forces via radio soon after the first landing. Raúl Castro was by this time informed about the landings, which led him to put all militia units in the area on the highest state of alert and to order airstrikes. The landings at Mariel were more successful, and managed to secure a beachhead without being spotted.

The General Secretary was having a diner with his family. Suddenly, his phone rang. A person came up to him and informed him of the call. The General Secretary's face dramatically changed after that. He excused himself and left the table.

In the Operation room:

"What do you mean they got through our defenses?! Where were our radars?" asked enraged General Secretary while his aides did not know what to say. Then finally General De Luca gulped and said:
" We still have a chance. Our police forces located them at Mariel and Havana port. Extra soldeirs are being moved there."

Havana
A patrol police car nearby noticed a lot of movement in the port. He informed the central command about it and said that he saw Auxhavenish flags flying above. This was when he saw tanks and Cuban ground forces running towards the scene. They've already got the memo about the invaders before the cops. Other military gun boats were racing towards the Auzhavenish ones trying to shoot at them. While the Cuban army, with IFVs, started shooting at the unloading opposition forces. They used the nearby building as a cover.

Mariel
The Auxhavenish side suddenly heard attack helicopters and Russian infantry SUVs carrying soldiers coming nearby.

Aboard the operation Command Ship, Admiral Hudson was expressing his thoughts to his officers. "Damn it!" the Admiral said, smashing his fist on a table. "Our cover is blown! Now Cuba knows it was us!". The other officers just looked on as the Admiral kept ranting on. Two destroyers from the diversionary force were moved, one to the Havana convoy, and the other started to head to Mariel.

Havana
"Shit!' an officer yelled. "Take cover!" Auxhaveish and Cuban rebels scattered for cover as the IFVs opened fire. Most of the troops in the landing ships had been unloaded, but the ones in the boats were like sitting ducks. The IFVs ripped them apart while soldiers on the beach took cover by storage containers and buildings. The transport ships used what guns they had, mainly .50 caliber heavy machine guns to target the IFVs, while ground troops targeted Cuban Army and militia.

As Auxhaveish and the Cuba rebels moved up the beach, sustaining casualties, the finally reached more buildings to provide cover. Auxhaveish seaborne assault teams moved from building to building, using the cover of darkness to make their way to the Capitol building. Rebels meanwhile kept fighting the Cuban Soldiers, moving closer and closer to more buildings despite taking casualties.

Mariel
Upon hearing the attack helicopters and trucks, they Auxhaveish assault teams and Cuban rebels moved for cover and prepared for an ambush. Heavy machine guns were set up along the ridge and inside buildings, while rebels with RPGs moved to look for the helicopter. Men still unloading from the transport ships would continue quickly and swiftly. They would wait until the convoy came close enough.

The two giant destroyers moving towards Havana and Mariel was not hard to notice. The cuban navy quickly dispatched 4 Su-25 jets to stop them plus 4 corvettes.

Havana
The cuban arrmy continued taking cover and returning fire. AKs were sounding on the streets of the port area. The morale was strong due to the cuban IFVs.
"Go at them!" shouted the colonel in Spanish.

Even though the Cuban Army knew the place very well, the Auxhavenish troops had more training. So the Cuban army suffered casualties and it was easier for the Americans to take more buildings. But the Cuban Army had an advantage: powerful IFVs. Now it was more challenging for them to shoot at the Auxhavenish forces when they advancing deeper into the city.

Mariel
The convoy came to the place. All the soldiers unloaded and scattered around the area to find out whats going on. Their commander ordered to search the area in Spanish. So they did. They were an open target for the Auxhavenish forces.

One of the helicopters shone its lights on an Auxhavenish squad hiding in the bushes...

(Sorry for my late post)

Upon noticing that the Destoyers were in imminent danger, they received orders to not engage and return to base in Auxhaven.

Havana
When the rebels were close enough, they started to use grenades to target the IFVs. With Auxhaveish training, they seemed to prove more effective than the Cuban soldiers. Once unloaded, the transport ships continued to give cover fire until most of the rebels were in the city. After that, the transport ships left at high speed to the safety of Auxhaveish waters. Despite taking casualties, they continued to push forward, constantly putting pressure on the Cuban soldiers. The Auxhaveish Seaborne Assault teams kept making progress to reach the capitol building, which was within sight by now. They prepared themselves to assault the building.

Mariel

As soon as the light from the helicopter was shined, the rebels and Auxhaveish soldiers opened fire. Teams with rocket launchers fired at the helicopter, but were mostly unsuccessful. Machine guns fired rapidly at the Cuban soldiers. The transport ship, using its .50 cal machine guns gave what support it could to the sill unloading soldiers. Freshly unloaded rebels started to make way to Havana, to put more pressure on the capitol.

The Cuban soldiers continued to put up a great defense to the invaders. They used everything under their hands to stop them. When they would get out of ammo, they would throw cocktails Molotov and grenades at the Auxhavenish forces. The Special forces of Cuba barricaded themselves in the capitol buildings while the support hid in the nearby buildings to ambush the invaders from the flanks.
"Do not give up, sons of Cuba!" shouted General Roberto.

back in mariel...
The Cubans were shocked and did not prepare for such a surprise attack. When they got the call, they sure did not expect a whole army waiting for them! The helicopter was down while the ground units continued to return fire. But the Cuban Army could not keep up with the guests from Auxhaven. Soon, the soldiers lost sight of them.

IT WAS DECIDED IN THE AUXHAVEN ARMED FORCES HIGH COMMAND TO CALL OFF THE OPERATION. AUXHAVEN TROOPS AND CUBAN REBELS ARE RECALLED TO AUXHAVEN.

I'm sorry, The Syrian State, I realized that Cuba was not worth my effort. It requires a great deal of resources for little reward. Cuba is not necessary. (Sorry I kind of wasted your time).
