Hope Solo suspended from US Womens soccer team.

Basically she ripped on the other team, calling them cowardly and weak. In reaction, she was slapped with a six month suspension. Rather than apologize/ admit what she said was wrong, she cried a double standard, claiming a male athlete would of been let off. First off, am I the only one who finds the fact that a Woman who has so far received ZERO punishment for assaulting someone wants to cry double standard? If it were Ray Rice then there would of been a major uproar. Secondly, people get punished for saying the wrong thing/ having the wrong opinion quite often. Remember the Georgia southern student who was fired from her job, and had people demanding she be expelled for bashing BLM? She's hardly being singled out. Anyway, what say you NSG?

Dunno if there's a double standard, as I don't follow sports, but as I understand it bad sportsmanship is very much frowned upon. She can take her punishment like a woman.

Yeah attitudes like this aren't welcome in most any sport. You might be able to say it, but that doesn't mean you won't be called on it.

True, but in principle people generally ought not be punished merely for having distasteful opinions. I'm kinda on her side, though honestly I don't follow soccer much period let alone women's soccer. As a business decision Im not sure what to make of the move, seems like a much shorter suspension would've generated just as much publicity, so why go for 6 months? Doesn't really make much sense.

Hope Solo says stupid things about the other team, she gets suspended for six months.

Guy football players do this all the time, and nobody notices.

I'm not trying to be annoying, nor am I excusing her behavior. What she did was stupid and cheap. I'm just confused as to why she would get such a long suspension.

I hate to have to be the one to point this out, but she hasn't been convicted of anything yet.

The case was dismissed on procedural grounds, but the prosecution appealed that dismissal (which, as they have noted, is an unusual step, indicating an extremely strong case). no conviction has occurred yet.
