The two members of the Glytteronian Delegation, Minister of Energy Abigail McGovern and Minister of the Environment and Climate Fearghus Mac Donnchadh, made their way towards the meeting room where the conference was to begin. They walked patiently through the beautiful halls of the Makuahine Grand Lodge, followed closely behind by their personal aides.

"I just wish we could start a little later" Fearghus said, cracking a small smile.

His colleague chuckled. "Oh I rather like the early start, keeps me on my toes."

"I prefer to be in bed at this hour, not on my toes" he replied.

The duo arrived at the entrance to the meeting room, and showing their credentials to the conference staff as they approached. They wandered into the elegant room, as Mac Donnchadh scurried over to the refreshments table.

The Delegation from the Federation of Asteria, which consisted of Secretary of Energy Dr. Greg Joplin and Senator Jaime Durand of Yankton, who was an outspoken environmentalist, had arrived with high hopes for this meeting. Recent events had the world completely captivated, and in their wake, many important issues were overlooked. Indeed, the issue of global warming and climate change has existed for decades, but it's clear effects on the Federation have made the nation a leader in the campaign for change. It is because of this that the Federation now runs primarily on nuclear and green power, and important laws such as the "Green Roof Act", which requires homes with a certain square footage or above to have one or more solar panels, have been passed.

Dr. Joplin, a Weranian-born scientist who migrated to the Federation in 1987, was a very accomplished biologist who switched to research in green and nuclear power in the late 90s, and was appointed Secretary of Energy in 2004 under President Nathan Dunley, and his outstanding work allowed his position to carry on through President White's Administration. Senator Durand, who was born and raised in the province of North Yankton, Yankton, spent most of her career with the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (FEPA), but first ran for Yankton Senate in 2014, where she won by a landslide. Since then, she has done remarkably well as Senator, while also continuing to voice her beliefs on environmental protection and the switch to green power. It is because of her love for the planet and dedication to her beliefs that she was chosen to attend this meeting.

The two individuals, who wore Asterian flag pins on their suits to distinguish themselves, entered the meeting room to see that the Glytteronians had already arrived. Joplin chuckled, and spoke to Durand in a heavy Weranian accent. "Zhe Glytteronians have beaten us to it. Zhey alvays vish to be first."

The Senator smiled and spoke in the typical Asterian accent which is most common across the country. "I personally admire the Glytteronians, but I suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion."

Dr. Joplin and Senator Durand approached the Glytteronian Delegation, which was only a single member since the other had went to get a refreshment. The Senator smiled, while Joplin kept a face of neutrality while the two extended their arms to shake, and the Doctor spoke in his heavy Weranian accent. "It is good to see you here. I am Doctor Gregory Joplin, Secretary of Energy for zhe Federation of Asteria."

Durand followed. "How are you?" she asked. "I'm Senator Jaime Durand, from Yankton."

"it is nice to meet you" McGovern replied as she reached out to shake hands with the Asterians.

"I am Abigail McGovern, Minister of Energy for Glytter. My colleague who seems to have found himself occupied with the refreshments table is Fearghus Mac Donnchadh, our environment and climate minister. I am doing quite well, always love a nice trip, even if it is for business. How has the island been treating you?" she said kindly.

"Very well" the Senator said with a smile.

"It is beautiful, zher is no doubt, but von has little time to admire zheir surroundings on important meetings such a zhis." Dr. Joplin has always been a man so tied up in his work, that he rarely stopped to admire the beauty in things. He was a man of logic, not emotion. He let out a weak smile, and departed to the refreshments table to get something to drink. Senator Durand sighed as he walked away and turned back to Minister McGovern.

"I'm very sorry, but you know how Weranians can be." she chuckled.

"We all have our own ways" Abigail smiled. "Your people have your quirks, and we have ours" said with a chuckle.

"What sort of work do you usually do in Asteria?" the Minister inquired.

"Oh that is very impressive, FEPA has an admirable record" McGovern replied.

She adjusted her watch.

"As Minister of Energy I oversee the power grid, mainly overseeing nuclear power. The job does considerably less since the sector was privatised a few decades back, but since then it has been granted the power to coordinate subsidies with developing nations to encourage renewable or nuclear energy. I usually work with the Ministry of Immigration and International Relief there, and with the Trade Ministry to fine tune the deals".

"It does involve a lot of travel, both around Glytter and abroad. It's always fun to see the world through a different lense" she finished.

The three Blekenian ambassadors, Śvol Jakell, who was a well known Blekenian world climate expert, Ńoall Vallj, a Blekenian entrepreneur in the electric car industry, and Daaol Bjornsen, the Blekenian Minister of Transportation, stood outside the enterance.

They began to walk in. The Blekenian flag was stitched into their modest shirts as they came into the building. Blekenian was a very cold place, and the Ik Ka Ek 'Akai was very warm with its jungles and climate, and they were still sweating slightly in the shirts they wore.

They stopped at the enterance to show their credentials to the staff, before entering in. The Glyterronian delegates were in discussion with the Asterian delegation. It was like a situation out of a comedy show, two morally opposed nations having to work together.

Yawning, Arnaud Bittencourt stepped out of Senouillacan Official Car. Turning around, he helped the car’s other occupant, Gaëtane Baudet, out of the vehicle. Arnaud was the Commissioner of the Senouillacan Nature Commission, the government body responsible for managing the vast tracts of wilderness in the country. Gaëtane was also a high-ranking government official. She was the Secretary General of the Senouillacan Council of Energy and Power. The SCEP regulated the energy industry in Senouillac and also operated the majority of the nuclear generators and a plurality of the hydroelectric, tidal, and solar plants in the nation. Despite her position of immense power, she often joked that a woman could rise no higher than a secretary.

Standing at the entrance was another member of the Senouillacan delegation, Lucien Lavaud. Mr. Lavaud was the former owner of Juereund Innovative Automotive(JIA), which he sold to Gascogne-MacDougal Works(GMW) in 2008 for an undisclosed sum in the billions of SUD. Today he operated the E-Labs at GMW, developing new and innovative green technologies for the transportation industry.
“Commissioner Bittencourt, Secretary General Baudet, it’s a pleasure as always,” said Mr. Lavaud.

Baudet nodded and said, “Thank you for taking the time away from the Corporate World to come here, Mr. Lavaud. I speak on behalf of Auxillac when I say your expertise in this field is much needed.”
Adding on to that, Arnaud said, “And your company is a shining example of the power and pride of BIV.”
As they completed their smalltalk, the three entered the meeting hall on the tail of the Blekenian delegation. It seemed the Asterians and Glytteronian delegations were also here already, engaged in what had to be an awkward conversation.

Lucien spotted Ńoall Vallj, a fellow automotive innovator. He made a beeline for the man, wishing to engage one of his fellows instead of brownnosing politicians. “Mr. Vallj, I haven’t seen you since the Asteria Superior
Green Auto Exposition in St. Martin years ago. How have you been? I see your company is doing well.”

Arnaud walked over to a table that had some food and refreshments laid out. He wasn’t really interested in talking until the presentations started and he also wanted to observe the delegations of other countries.

Gaëtane Baudet spotted her counterpart from Glytter engaged in a conversation with the Asterian appointee. The two women had interacted often in the past, as their respective nations Energy Ministers in BIV. She walked over to the group.

“Senator Durand, Dr. Joplin, it’s a pleasure to meet you. Dr. Joplin, I believe we have met before. And Minister McGovern, we meet yet again. I haven’t seen you since the last talks in BIV about oil prices.”

Ńoall looked at Lucien as he bee lined over to where he was standing. He let the Senouilliacan talk first, before he spoke.

"Ah, hello Lucien. I've been doing quite good for myself lately, as you might guess. Ever since the Asterian Exposition all those years ago my company, BEAC (Blekenjegen Electric Automotive Corporation) has been climbing in popularity.

Car sales at home have been rising, though at a fairly slow pace, and ever since the oil embargo against DITO member states by the PENB sales in Asteria have been rising like a firecracker! I'm sure you know already but there's a electric car exhibition occurring in Gaullica in November, I've been working on a new car, I'll be unveiling it at the convention!
"

Ńoall smiled. Meanwhile, a aide walked in carrying some briefcases for Śvol. He had brought several research papers and other documents documenting the situation climate change was causing to the worlds environment, and he wanted to show the,.

Kaizhou
Chihongshan Test Facility
One day earlier

"Welcome, my lord prince," General Hao Chunying said, her iron-gray hair fluttering in the broiling breeze washing over them from the engines of the Prince of Qin's plane, and the heat shimmering up off the tarmac. She saluted crisply, as did the officers behind her, their dress uniforms shimmering in the tropical sun. Zhen Jian, the Prince of Qin, returned her salute a little awkwardly as he stepped off the final step and onto the tarmac. He felt out of place in his dark suit, could feel beads of sweat forming at the small of his back as the sun hammered down at them. General Hao and her deputies who had come to greet them were in their dress uniforms, as were the dozen or so soldiers who were standing at attention, but Jian could see others milling about on various tasks elsewhere, off the tarmac or near the hangar buildings, wearing sweat-stained hot-weather work uniforms that looked far more comfortable and practical. I cannot wait to get to some air conditioning.
"Thank you for meeting me, General, I know you must be a busy woman," Jian said, smiling graciously.
"The pleasure is all mine, my lord. Would you like a tour of the base, or perhaps I can just escort you to your quarters?"
She gestured at a jeep, waiting for them a little ways away.
Jian pasted a brilliant smile to his face and tried not to clench his jaw. Well, I wanted air conditioning, but it'd be rude to refuse. "A tour sounds lovely. I hear the beaches here are lovely, they certainly looked so from the air."
"Indeed, my lord- though you might find some of the radar arrays and military systems more interesting than you'd expect," she said politely. "If you could follow me."

"One more time, just to make sure you've got it."
"Marama Kai Raka Yocatul."
"Good. Most of their names aren't too difficult, but practice, I find, always helps when it comes to foreign names and languages." Envoy Wu shuffled some of his papers around. "I assume you've read the relevant MSJ political and situational analyses, and the briefing I gave you before we left?"
"Yes, but as you say, practice always helps, and you're the expert." Jian resisted the urge to pull out his phone, and instead idly flipped through the dossier of files that the envoy had handed him, finding an image of some sort of missile site with meaningless characters printed next to it blabbering on about something to do with the war in Siamat.
"Ha," Wu chuckled, "no, that would be Ambassador Shen. I've only been here twice, keep in mind, a few months at most over my entire career. Poor Qiang has had to live here for six years! He's the real expert, so follow his lead, even if it seems to contradict things you've read or that I've told you. The last thing we need is to offend our hosts."
As if they could do anything about any offense we might give. "Yes, Chihongshan must be kept safe, of course."
"Yes. Now, the main clan of the Yocatul dynasty, the ruling house, the clan the Queen- strictly speaking, her title is Paramount Chieftain- belongs to is the Marama clan. Physical contact with her is considered taboo, unless she initiates it, and she may do the traditional handshake to you, since you have imperial blood. That will matter- they're more inclined to notice royal blood than any sort of bureaucratic position, so they will defer to you and likely give you special treatment in some ways."
"Yes, I know, I read all about that. Can we go over her family? I just want to make sure I know who's who."
"She's unmarried, 25 years of age, more or less, with three younger siblings, two sisters aged 24 and 20 and a brother aged 17, and her mother is still alive as well. Father was killed in one of their ritual wars, and she ascended to the throne." Wu Tai suddenly sighed and set his papers down. "Listen, the main thing to remember is this: we are, essentially, visiting an almost uncontacted jungle tribe. Their clothing is both peculiar and... minimalist, their eating habits are extremely adventurous, and they will do and say things that you and I find shocking, unbecoming, and uncivilized. It is our job, essentially, not to show shock, and to pretend to care about what they have to say. Both of us know that Tianjing couldn't give less of a shit about these people- the only thing here that matters is Chihongshan, and some minor economic ventures. To that end, you must put all your experience in the Grand Assembly and the imperial court to good use and always be composed around them."
"When in the presence of barbarians, the children of Heaven must endeavor to be superior men," Jian quoted sarcastically.

Jian covered his mouth with his hand as they walked, hiding his yawn. Ambassador Shen led the way, while he and Envoy Wu followed behind. They had several others with them as well- Major Lin, the senior-most MSJ officer in the islands, who split his time between Chihongshan and Makuahine, a translator whose name Jian had either never learned or entirely forgotten, and three other assistants who were diplomats or aides of some type.
"Getting up this early every morning will be a pain," the Prince said dryly as they proceeded through the palace towards the meeting area.
"I found that after a while here, the sun starts waking you up better and better in the mornings. If you can, leave the curtains in your room open when you go to bed, so the light will shine in in the morning before dawn a little." Ambassador Shen didn't turn around as he dropped this little tidbit of wisdom. He had met them at the Makuahine airport, a poured-concrete monstrosity made almost pleasant by its myriad gardens, when their plane had landed. For some reason, they'd taken a Linzhen Li-52 supersonic bomber rather than Jian's private jet over from Chihongshan, escorted by a fighter, both of which had taken off and returned to the base after dropping them off. Silly, stupid posturing.
They entered the meeting room, proceeding into the vast wooden space clustered together like a shipping convoy from the Great War for protection from foreign wolfpacks.
"I'm guessing they don't have coffee here?", Jian asked to no one in particular.
"There is tea, my lord," Envoy Wu said. "I don't know if it was grown locally or imported from the homeland."
"That'll do." Jian marched off towards the refreshments table, dubiously eyeing what appeared to be tiny fried lizards. Surely those aren't geckos? There were some Glytteronians and Asterians chatting nearby, and Jian sipped the tea he'd just acquired, eavesdropping while pretending to admire some of the intricate woodcarving in the room's interior. The rest of the Songhua party milled around aimlessly, slowly approaching the Prince as if drawn in by his gravity, but trying to avoid the foreigners as well.

Secretary of Energy Joplin had just returned from the refreshment table when Arnaud Bittencourt from the Senouillac Union began speaking with the Asterian and Glytternian Delegation. In the past, the two had worked together extensively to bring about the creation of new power plants throughout the Federation and Senouillac, due to very cooperative energy pacts between themselves, and with Roeselle. Senator Durand, however, was yet to meet Mr. Buttencourt.

Joplin spoke first, extending his hand. "Ah, Mr. Bittencourt, it is very nice to see you again. I believe ve haven't spoken since last June."

Gaullica's delegation consisted of the little known but highly influential Federal Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Energy and the Environmental Development, Élisabeth Lalonde. She was an older woman, her hair kept short in its age. Spectacles adorned her face. A tidy, respectable black suit of the female variety was worn by her. She had been at the forefront of Gaullica's combat against the PENB sanction, yet behind the scenes. Even before that had she been the one to finally move Gaullica's extensive power network no longer solely from the heavily dominated nuclear department, but branched open to nationalised renewable energy sources to occupy a larger share in the power production. Under her, solar, tidal, hydroelectrical and wind power sources were all experimented with, mostly to a great success. Amidst her was the much more internationally known Augustin de Troumpe, now the head of the CLU in addition to being Gaullica's Foreign Minister. He wore a suit accompanied by a slightly irregular but nonetheless stylish green tie.

Both approached the conference hall swiftly, small-talk being a commodity both exercised with gusto. "I must say, Mrs Lalonde, your work on securing Gaullica a healthy renewable sector; fantastic, absolutely beautiful. The best."

She smiled a proud smile and nodded in agreement. "Such a lovely place, these islands, no?"

"Had this not been a conversation on sustaining the environment" de Troumpe quipped with humour, "perhaps I'd be asking to build a resort here."

The two made their way in, showing their passes and credentials as individuals whom had been invited to attend the talks. Walking into the lovely, clearly traditionally built building, both noted the assemble of other delegates. Casually approaching those of the Glytteronian delegation for a conversation, both the Foreign Secretary and the Minister had acquired some cups of tea for the early morning rise.

The East Bahian delegation was one of a much different makeup to the other attendants. Rather than some ministers with made up findings supporting their twisted view of nature, East Bahia were sending someone far more accomplished who would be sure to let the others know their faults. Dressed all in white, High Blood Priest Habu Mugabe was armed with a tool more powerful than any so called 'scientists' findings. The Blood Scrolls were the very words of the creators of the universe, far more trustworthy than any capitalist interpretations of nature's cycle.

Fashionably late as always, Habu walked inside the lodge, his conical hat barely scraping under the doorframe. Damned savages, never thinking ahead when building these huts. His fellow delegates were already deep in conversation, so there was no time to waste. "Blessings of the Gods upon you all!" Habu said, in a thick accent. "East Bahia is happy to take part in this fine event."

Well this is different thought Phraates ibn Imran as he stepped of the plane. The main airport was vastly different to Susa International. No great glass and steel terminals, no train-lines running between each to the arrivals and departures area, no armies of little men in high visibility jackets waving silly red batons. Just a low building a few planes parked on the runway, not even that many planes really. Phraates was the "Environment & Ecology Minister" of Fars, he was charged with overseeing such projects as green energy and maintaining the Farsi Coral Reeves . So naturally he was the choice to go to the tropical island group to discuss ways to cut down on CO2 emissions. Some might of wondered why the Farsi government only sent such a lowly minister a Phraates, but it was a coded message You can protest as much as you want. We do not care. Fars was built on oil money, oil money paid for the national health service, for the train lines and ports, for the military and ironically even for renewable projects like the Persis Dam and the solar farms. In short, Fars was oil, and the government, no matter how liberal would not allow Fars' entire economy to tank for the wishes of some islanders.

Within half an hour of arriving he was at the conference center. It appeared to be reed and wood hut, but the Minister assumed there were other more modern buildings in the compound. Susa was more advanced than this 3,000 years ago he thought as he stepped out of the car and on to the path leading up to the building.

The Roessan Delegation

As the Roessan Delegation, consisting of Jean-Pierre Rousseau, Minister of Industry and the Environment which oversees the Bureau of Environmental Protection and Preservation, the Bureau of Public Transportation, the Bureau of Civil Engineering and Construction, and the Economic Evaluation Agency, Consumer Protection Agency, and Labor Regulations Agency arrived with a few of the men working for him in the country arrived, they checked their baggage and then made way for the meeting facility where they offloaded their bags and then walked into the room where other countries representativs were. Jean-Pierre Rousseau walked over to the Blekenian representative, he smiled when he saw him and said, "Good to see you Ńoall, its been a few weeks if I recall correctly. In regards to our energy deal if I'm not mistaken. This sure is a pretty island, I'd bet you that half of the people here came just to get some sun and a nice break."

The military plane rumbled along shortly after take-off from Curia Airport, carrying the Rhaetian delegation to the international Yocatullic Climate Summit. In a rare absence of the normal prevailing isolationism of the Rhaetian regime, the Central Party Committee allowed Leader Aden Tgaptelas to despatch a small delegation to the summit. After much haggling, the CPC finally settled on two individuals to lead the delegation: the Deputy Minister for the Environment and Preservation of the Fatherland, Haneas Yunder, and the renown Professor of Environmental Biology in the People's College University of Curia (or PCU Curia), Silvia Brundil.

The totalitarian regime of the Rhaetian People's Party was not well known for environmental concerns. However, the CPC had come to see the preservation of Rhaetia's mountainous and mostly pristine environment as an important issue for a futuristic country where the people delight in dictatorship utopia. Thus, the Tgaptelas government commissioned the delegation to have a odd set of priorities: they should laud the Rhaetian mountain environment as the saviour of mankind and speak in apocalyptic terms concerning climate change and the threat to the extensive mountain forests of Rhaetia. To sum off, they should ask for much cash to help the government preserve the unique ecosystem.

While Yunder was obliged to follow government line for fear of his head (metaphorically - the government has more efficient methods than beheading), Brundil was more disgruntled by the orders of the delegation. She wanted more scope in committing Rhaetia to high-profile international programmes to combat climate change, which she thought could help Rhaetia mill among the great powers. Above all, financial incentives were needed to stop the government overexploiting Rhaetia's natural resources for cash. With the regime unpopular outside Rhaetia, it would be hard to convince the world to send money to Curia.

The plane flew over Rhaetia's southern border, approaching the Solarian Sea. Yunder indicated to Brundil as they approached the end of the Raetic mountain range.

"The bit on that side," he pointed north into Rhaetia, "we protect. The bit beyond that, we don't give a damn."

She shrugged. Couldn't be simpler.

Abigail was happy that more people had arrived, as she knew Fearghus would remain out of sight for as long as possible.

"I am glad to see you again, Ms. Baudet. And yes that was quite the meeting, always a pleasure to attend BIV summits, even if their subjects can be dire."

Slowly Fearghus Mac Donnchadh had realised that his time in the shadows was dwindling, and he could only justify hiding at the refreshments table for so much longer. He filled his cup with tea once more and made his way over towards his colleague and the small crowd that had gathered around her.

The guests would be rudely erupted by the cry of a horn crafted from a conch shell, followed by the cries of a warrior leaping from the bushes. A few other tribesmen would gather around and let out loud, vicious chants, women beside them singing in the Yocatullic language as the central warrior who had lept from the bushes began showing very clear displays of aggression, waving around his spear and twirling it in acrobatic maneuvers in some sort of strange ritual. Although no warning had been provided, it became clear that this was ritual very quickly when the warrior began to twirl and catch his spear, making aggressive gestures and noises, but never making an advance. The only ones who might've been prepared for such a ritual would be those culturally aware, or perhaps the prince, Zhen Jian, who would've been told in his briefing that this specific ritual was intended as both a greeting and a challenge, to warn that they were ready should conflict arise, and furthermore as a guide for spiritual energy, mana, to fill the area by being directed by the warriors.

It would not be long before the warriors would part away to welcome the queen to the abode. They continued chanting, making aggressive gestures. and threatening her. She began a slow approach, the warriors holding their spears in hand, with a sharp, serrated bone tip on each. One warrior tossed his spear, and she caught it mid-air, twirled it, then cast it aside. Another threw his spear, and she did much the same. This continued until all warriors had thrown their spears, and with the last one thrown, she caught it once more, looked at all the delegates, and threw it into the ground right in front of her feet. This was yet another ritual, to both prove her martial prowess and good mana, in essence demonstrating her capability to rule, good spirituality, and divine favoritism through ritual, although had she failed to catch any spears, she would've been impaled and killed on the spot. Such was the trust they placed in her to succeed.

She wore a leather skirt with a matching shawl, covering the necessities but leaving her shins and belly areas open, as well as most of her arms. Although shoes were atypical of these people, she was wearing a brown pair of boots, clearly of foreign design, that did not mesh well with the rest of her outfit. She wore, for jewelry, bracelets of jade and obsidian beads, as well as leather string, and a choker made of shark teeth around her neck. Her back was decorated with a cloak of many colorful tropical feathers, although she put this down where she was to sit upon entering the area properly. Her skin was tan, a light brown hue, although still definitively brown. This island paleness was endemic to the Marama clan, and assumed to be part of their lineage from the moon herself. She wore face and body paint, blue lines that, on her body, were swirled and aesthetically pleasing, while on her face it largely followed the contour of her skull. Like many of her people, her physique was lean, slender, although she was a bit taller than women elsewhere in the world, coming out to roughly five feet, six inches. Her hair was black and wavy, falling down her back in S-shaped curls, while her eyes were very dark brown, as one might expect of an equatorial people.

Looking at the prince, the only royalty in the area, she stared for a moment. She had been briefed prior to the meeting over who might be attending, and she knew this man as being of great status. The others were ministers of some form, people elevated from the common classes to their status, and who held minor positions in government. This man, however, was born into nobility. He was of the Ari'i caste, and she was to act accordingly, treating him as another chief but without throwing spears ritually at him. She approached him and nodded, then reached her hand out as if to shake. Instead of shaking, however, she gripped his wrist. Her hand was soft, almost delicate, but her grip was firm and tight. Yanking him closer, she looked into his eyes for but a brief moment, though her gaze, intense and unyielding, almost challenging, made it feel as if an eternity had passed before she let her grip go and returned to her seat.

Taking her seat, she gestured to the table where food and drinks lie, to the unlit firepit sitting in the middle of them all, and then to those still standing to take their seats. "Welcome." she said, "Welcome to Makuahine."

The two Glytteronian ministers promptly took their seats.

"What an impressive spectacle" Fearghus said to his colleague as they sat down. "I'm glad they are having the summit here as opposed to somewhere like Blekenjegen or Svalna. Ghastly, they really are."

Mac Donnchadh was in his sixties now, and had grown to be more cynical over the years. He had served as Minister of the Environment and Climate since 2014, having served as the Minister of Energy before that from 2007-2012. After stepping out of the cabinet for a few years to handle family matters, Taoiseach Walker had decided to name him Minister of the Environment and Climate following the retirement of his successor. He happily accepted, and since he took up the post had gone on to see much of the world.

Whether it was the melting polar ice caps, coastal erosion affecting the beaches of the Asterias, or what could best be described as the sinking of entire island nations into the ocean, Fearghus had since seen it all.

Abigail chuckled. "I'm quite glad they know how to put on a show, the other summits can be so boring".

They stopped chatting with one another and focused their attention back on the other delegates and their host.

Ńoall looked as the Roseean delegate, Jean-Pierre, walked over to him and gave him a handshake. He started to talk with the Roseean.

"Ah, Jean-Pierre. I actually heard about the deal the President was working out with you guys, word is he was-"

Ńoall promply heard the ritual being preformed outside, which scared the living daylights out of him. Śvol, meanwhile did not flinch, he had done some research about the people beforehand and knew what this was. A greeting for the chief. More specifically, the Queen in this case. Dooal had been here before, on vacation several times in all honesty, which meant he was not surprised by the ritual either. The three men turned around and walked to the refreshments table. Ńoall was disgusted, Švol was rather on edge and Dooal seemed to be a bit curious about the food. All three men took glasses of water. They then went to their seats.

Most of the Vredlandian delegation already took their seats. Johann von Geldrich also sat at the table. As former Chancellor and now-ambassador to the Celestial Isles, he had every reason to be there. Originally he didn't even want to attend, but the King asked him to, and it would be nice to talk to an old friend. This friend was the Minister of Agriculture, Lorenz von Oldern. When it came to environment, he was the highest-ranking central government official to make decisions. There was a time when he was highly influential, and indeed his skills and diligence seemed to qualify him for Chancellor, yet he was sidelined when his ally and friend Johann von Geldrich was ousted. Politics, that was his one weakness.

A number of other accredited delegates sat with them. Secretaries, assistants, businessmen, mediators and some other Foreign Service staff. All in all the Vredlandian delegation must have been one of the larger ones, as usual. That's what made it even more curious to watch that they all rised from their seats as others sat down; all facing into the direction of the door. A blonde, mid-aged man walked through the door along with a number of other delegates. Not him, the former Chancellor cursed without anyone to hear. It was the designated Lord Protector of Vredlandia, HRH Prince August, who was around the same age as the King and one of his closest advisors. After King Karl II was found guilty of treason and had to surrender his crown, Karl's brother Albrecht was handled as successor, and in that case August would have been Crown Prince now. Back then things didn't turn out his way, but with Chancellor Adam Bolde Prince August found an unlikely ally. Time and time again they would aid each other in their struggle, and they both benefited from this alliance greatly, even if August had to marry into the despised royal family of Marbruck.

HRH greeted his delegation and sat down, thus allowing them to sit down again. "The introduction was entertaining, I heard", he noted shortly and looked around as one of his assistants whispered names and offices into his ear. Prince August didn't want to arrive late, but since the Vredlandian delegation was so very large, they were distributed to different locations. August's location was rather beautiful. However, it was also further away and harder to reach, and today the weather didn't allow for him to arrive in time. His assistant whispered another few names before August knocked on the table twice and watched the delegates at his table. "The Glytteronians didn't even send one of their Royals? How dull!"

A smile emerged on his face and chatter erupted at the Vredlandian tables shortly after.

Approaching their seats, Lalonde and de Troumpe stood by their table in wait as they watched the show. Their few aides and staff that came with them began to shuffle in around them, not more than a team of seven with the two officials included. The vibrant display of traditional ritual, culture was a sight to behold. Foreign, almost alien, untouched by modernism. And almost frightening to the severe respect these warriors had for their role in the summit. Entertainment, even in these times of discussion, was something that could not be underappreciated. Especially in these early hours just after dawn.

Adorning her spectacles after cleaning them, Lalonde gave a smile and nudged de Troumpe's arm with her elbow. He turned, his expression that of a "quoi?" as he sipped on the tea he had brought himself.

"It is absolutely fantastic, is it not? Such grace, such splendour. Perhaps it is to remind us of the balance, the tranquillity of the planet?"

De Troumpe stared at his colleague, then the show, then back at her and ran his tongue along the teeth behind his closed mouth. "I think... maybe, yeah, maybe you're onto something." He could not bring himself to ruin her conception, even if he just thought it was an amusing tribal show.

Just as she was about to continue, de Troumpe was saved by the official introduction by the Queen and with a swift and decisive motion, the group of seven sat down on their seats, beginning to chat amongst themselves as they awaited the continuing process of the summit.

When the tribal performers burst into the room, dancing and showing off their skills and rituals, Dr. Joplin grunted. "Filthy animals" he said in his deep Weranian accent. "Vhy glorify a dead culture?"

"It's remarkable" Senator Durand argued. "So unique... the Native Asterian people are dynamic in so many ways."

"Zhey are dead." Joplin said. "Let's leave it at that."

Durand rolled her eyes and walked away from the Doctor - proceeding to the Roessan Delegation, who were speaking to another. She patiently waited her turn to greet them.
