The Han School for Girls (IC RP Thread)

Adjacent to the city of Olyan but nestled in the small community of Silla was ready to welcome some new transfer students from around the globe. The school was the first in the nation, for a unisex private academy it was a big deal. It was not just the first day of school for everyone who already attended. While some were happy to see fresh faces others were not. Concerned parents not wanting their progeny influenced by outside influence. One set of parents dropping their daughter off were filled with these notions though she wasn't her big sister sure was. Su-Ae 11 was more open and tolerant than her parents. Her sister Hana-Yi 16 shared her parents views that outsiders were not to be trusted. With their money and influence they were able to give her a room in town as opposed to at the school. Chung was also supposed to stay with her but she wanted to stay at the school.

"Here are your bags girls. IF you need anything you know how to reach us." Their mother told them hugging them goodbye.

"You keep an eye on your sister now, young lady."

"Yes father I will." Hana-Yi said

"We'll be getting report cards every month so don't let your grades lapse now."

"Yes ma'am." They both said

"Keep dry when the rains come."

"Okay father, it's not our first time to school."

"It is your sister's."

"I'll be okay. I'm not a baby."

And their parents left. "Hana, I'm going to find my dorm."

"You know you really should stay with me. Mother and father will kill me if something bad happens. With all these foreigners staying here, something will."

"Come on, Hana they're just like you and me, they just come from another country and look different is all."

"Just remember you are Myakkan. Proud Myakkan, let no one tell you less."

"Yes sister."

She sighed "Well it is your first day and all." Hana-Yi hugged her baby sister even with the gathering crowd. "I'll still have an extra bed if you want to be with me."

"I'll be okay." Su said

"Well all the same you will probably be with some much older seeing as you had to register so late."

"That will be so cool! Being with teenagers like you, only maybe they'll be less annoying."

"Shut it sis. Alright you go now I'm going to the Promenade."

and Su went to find her dorm, she was the first in there she took her Nón lá letting her already getting long dark hair free. All Myakkan women wore their hair pretty long. Though some still kept at the shoulders.

Ingrid got out of the taxi* she had just paid for and stood in front of the Han School for Girls. At the airport she had changed out of her 'civvies' as her grandfather would have called them, and into what appeared to be the traditional dress of Myakka. Her green Aodai felt comfortable enough, and Ingrid grinned as she look down and saw the 3 Arrows of the Skgorrian flag pointing up at her. The flag's pattern was also replicated on the back. She had judged it to be a reasonable compromise between accepting local customs and representing her Skgorria.

The hat...well she still wasn't sure about that. She had tied her maroon hair up in a bunch and placed the hat on top. It seemed to fit reasonably well, but it was just so spectacularly different to anything she had encountered in Skgorria. The only times she'd worn a hat were in Youth! Action! as part of the political uniform, and even then it had felt strange. She liked to wear her hair long and loose, and she hoped she'd get plenty of chances to do that.

"Well Mum, Grandfather, here we go," Ingrid sighed as she picked up her bags, one in each hand, making sure the weight was well balanced, and strode onto school grounds.

* OOC: I'm assuming you have taxis. If not, then she arrived there somehow. I just wanted to skip lots of tedious arrival RP.

Ingrid beamed with pleasure that someone had come to greet her.
"How'd you do Instructor? I'm Ingrid Beckenbauer, straight out of Skgorria." She stuck out her right hand for the instructor to shake, only to see she was still holding a bag. She quickly dropped it to free her hand, then snatched it back.
"I'm sorry," she blushed. "Am I supposed to bow? I heard that in Asian countries bowing is the more acceptable form of greeting. Not that I'm generalising or anything! Maybe you guys shake hands, or hug, or dance in some weird way...not that there's anything from with that at all, it's just...". Ingrid looked away bashfully and would keep going on this track of conversation until someone stopped her.

"Aha relax dear, shaking hands is perfectly fine. I teach History and Korean here at the school, so I'm sure you will be in my one of my classes. You'll need to sign in so why don't I take you to the office."

"Oh thank the Pit," Ingrid sighed with relief, shook Yi's hand, picked up her bag and followed her.
"I'm certainly interested in both of those courses," Ingrid stated. "I won a prize for history last year back in Skgorria, and I' m always interested in picking up a new language. Is Korean the main language spoken here?"

"Yes almost there. You'll enjoy the activities, they're fun. I did advise the calligraphy club for a while, but a new teacher better trained in that art. Here we are. I'll just leave you at the desk here I've got to check in too."

She went past the office desk the Receptionist handed started sifting through forums. "Alright dear, we just need you to sign a few things. Do you want an English form?" she sifted to find the requested one. The form had a few disclosure agreements including proper use of the Dorm, the Honor Code and other matters. After finishing she handed her her dorm key and printed her school schedule. "This is your schedule and this is your room key. Dorm 45. Tomorrow you can sign up for extra circular activities, after you have chosen your classes we will print you a new schedule the next day. Any more questions?"

(ooc: I'll write up your mandatory classes you may chose any extras you want)

Liu Mei adjusted the conical hat as she got out of the taxi, used the feeling. While she had lived in Sulima, in the hutungs of the Chinese Quarter, her mother Liu Han had raised her as a Chinese girl. She liked the hat-on days when the sun was high, she could pull it down and let it's shadow hide her face.

She grabbed her bags from the trunk and thanked the driver, then looked around for a teacher or someone to guide her. There was another foreign-looking student talking with an older woman, so she assumed that was a guide or something similar. She followed them as they walked, hoping they could guide her to an office.

When they did, she waited behind the other foreigner, and got an English form as well.

1st Period: Korean I (Yi)
2nd Period: Mathematics (Mo)
3rd Period: Physical Fitness (Arie)
LUNCH HOUR
4th: World History
5th: Elective

After School Clubs: None right now

"No problems, thanks for the help Instructor Yi," Ingrid cheerfully waved. Her first experience of the school had been incredibly positive, and this gave Ingrid a lot of confidence.
"Oh, yes please," she answered when asked if she wanted an English form. "My Korean isn't quite...existing yet. Sorry!" Taking a pen, she studied the form. No major suprises. She was pleased to see her first lesson would be with the nice teacher she met. Maths would be a problem, but PE should be a breeze. She'd done a hell of a lot of physical work in Youth!Action! and she still ran with her grandfather every week. Looking at the form, she saw it was for A day, so she put down World History in Period 4. Was she supposed to do B day now as well? Not being sure, Ingrid did the sensible thing - ask.
"Excuse me," Ingrid asked the receptionist. "Am I supposed to be filling out a form for B day now as well?"

Liu Mei heard the other girl ask about B-Day schedule. She had been thinking about that as well.

"I'm also wondering about that," she added. "Do we need another form?" Then she turned to the girl.

"Liu Mei, from Comorostan. Are you another exchange student?"

"Ingrid Beckenbauer of Skgorria. Pleased to meet you," Ingrid smiled, offering her hand. "Yup, I'm an exchange student all right. Thought I'd get out of Skgorria a little and see the world...not that Skgorria isn't a great place, it's just...you know. The same, day after day." Ingrid's eyes glistened as her voice took on an excited tone. "I want to see new lands, meet new people, live in different cultures. The world has just so much to offer and I want to see as much of it as I can." Realising that she had been talking all this time, Ingrid covered her mouth with her hand in embarassment.
"Oh god, now you're thinking I'm weird. Sorry, I do have a habit of talking a lot. You talk right? Let's talk about you. What's Comorostan like?" Ingrid waited patiently, eager to hear about another country.

Liu Mei laughed. "It's OK, I don't mind. I don't know about Comorostan outside Sulima-it's my hometown, big port-but Sulima is shiny, everything seems new. I guess it's all the trade, and the place has to look nice to foreigners. The Chinese Quarter is crowded, you have to push through these huge crowds just to get a block. But the place is great. Hey, can I see your schedule?" Liu Mei pulled the paper so she could see it. "Hey, we've got the same schedule, great!"

Sarah Keels began her short trek to the front of the school. "Interesting..." Sarah observed, reading all the signs around her with perfect Korean fluency. "This is certainly an odd dialect of Korean..." Sarah continued to absorb her mostly foreign surroundings before she reached the entrance, a light drizzle pitter-patting on her long, dark blond hair.

After entering the building and finding her way to the office, Sarah grabbed a schedule form in Korean and, after looking it over, she spoke to the woman at the desk. "Umm...excuse me, but I already speak Korean fluently.....and I've taken mathematics all the way through calculus......." She pointed out, trying not to flaunt her exceptional academic abilities, which resulted in Sara sounding more helpless and confused than arrogant. "I was just wondering what should be on my schedule is all...."

"Awesome! You're doing World History too?" Ingrid was very happy at the idea of finding another history enthusiast. "I wonder how one person can know so much about the history of the world, what with there being so many countries and all. Maybe we'll get a chance to talk about her own nations."

Ingird noticed the blonde girl entering and although she couldn't understand Korean, she could see that the girl was feeling embarassed and confused - something that happened to Ingrid at least twice a day.
"Hey, blonde girl!" Ingrid called out. "You okay?"

Megan grabbed her belongings as she arrived at the school. Being an experienced traveler, she knew how to pack light, and didn't have the burden of many cumbersome bags. Myakka was the 7th country she had visited since she had gotten her civilian passport, and she was excited about spending more than just a few days out in the world. She pulled her documents out of her vest pocket as she made her way to the registration office.

"That's quite alright, we have forms for several languages so we can make sure each student will be able to know their schedule. By the time you are finished you will have a new language learned. Please fill your B-Day classes out, B-day is all student option while your A-Day is all chosen curriculum. But chose the courses that will best help you for your B-Day. " When Liu-Mei entered "Hello there, please take this form, and I'll check your room. Okay, you are Mei, Liu you are roommates with Ms. Beckenbauer here."

She handed her a Korean form as she as a fluent speaker. "Okay, you are roomed with these two girls here. Your B-Day schedule is all electives any courses you may need extra help in you are strongly advised to take it on your B-Day as well.

Kimi who was HIV-positive got out of the taxi, and she walked in. She was waiting for her form to be handed over. Her T-Shirt said, "Just because you have HIV does not mean people have to be rude to you and make fun of you. Make friends with those with HIV!" She smiled however.

Su-Ae who was now walking around outside again to enjoy the fresh air found Kimi. "Hi, I'm Su-Ae." She was just excited to meet a foreign student, she could tell by her manner of dress.

Last time I heard from them, they were hanged for doing drugs. I hope we can be best friends, and I hope to live here when I graduate." She smiled, then she decided to get the form.
