[ABANDONED] International Organ Donation Standards

Postby West Angola » Thu Jun 30, 2016 3:17 pm

International Organ Donation Standards
Category: Health
Area of Effect: Healthcare

The World Assembly,

RECOGNIZING the extensive systems of organ donation that already exist in member nations,

APPLAUDING the lifesaving potential of organ donation to those with serious injuries or diseases,

LAMENTING the medical issues which can arise from improper handling or storage of donor organs,

DESIRING to eliminate preventable deaths due to poor medical standards,

FORBIDS the deplorable practice of paying donors for organs,

MANDATES that all donor organs be obtained voluntarily via informed consent,

REQUIRES organs to be kept at or below the maximum temperature necessary to remain viable until they are ready for surgery,

BANS the transportation of organs between nations unless the nation of origin has been certified to meet minimum transit and storage requirements,

HEREBY ESTABLISHES the International Organ Standards Board to review existing organ donation procedures in member nations,

EMPOWERS the Board to publish and update a set list of minimum organ storage and handling standards for implementation, and

URGES member nations to suggest continuing improvements to the Board for review.

OOC: Mouse wrote a pair of resolutions that I think cover this already. In any case, it's good that you posted here first without submitting, though.

That's a shame. This was an excellent first draft, especially for a new author. I encourage West Angola to stick around. We can use writers like you.

Eh, my medical background came in handy when it came to repealing 2 resolutions (that I viewed as problematic) and then replacing them with 3 coordinating new resolutions.

I'll agree that this was a good first start, and hopefully the author will find a new topic to pique their interest. :)

OOC: It often pays to search with related terms too, like "medical" in this case. However, this was an excellent first try. :)

West Angola is not a new author, they just aren't very familiar around here.

OOC: I would call someone who hasn't written anything for the WA in 3 years a new author.

So would I. (EDIT: Actually, no, I wouldn't. Even if Mousebumples hadn't written anything in three years, I would never call Mouse a new author). But West Angola has written things in three years. Less than two years ago they wrote this.

If you have to lean on a joke proposal to build some semblance of a counterargument, you really are scraping the bottom of the barrel.

If you consider Bob Flibble a "new author", you're really scraping the bottom of the barrel. The only thing in the last FOUR years Bob Flibble wrote was a replacement of Convention on Execution, and even then he admitted it was a recycled draft from earlier (who knows when), and when he posted that he would have been considered a "new author" by virtue of not having written anything in three years.

Really? You would? So if someone... let's call them Bob, just as an example... wrote some proposals four years ago, and then didn't write any for at least three years, and then just this year wrote a proposal, you'd call them a new author? Because that's what you seem to be saying here: someone who was active in the WA three years ago and then stopped writing proposals until this year is a "new author".

Ah, yes, a perfect example of a "new author"... nothing written in at least three years, comes back to submit one proposal... surely this is exactly what you were talking about?

You don't need to get snarky about this, you know. Nor do you need to cram words into my mouth. How about you point me to Bob Flibble's nation and show me that nation's authorship. Links to the nation and the resolutions--whether repealed or extant--would be appreciated.

This, especially considering that what you are doing isn't "improving" the World Assembly whatsoever. You should use your puppet in its proper capacity, not whenever you don't want to risk your main nation taking heat from the community in general.

Well there we go. It would be very difficult for him to be a new author, wouldn't it?

While the discussion on what constitutes a new author is fascinating, it has nothing to do with this draft. Since it is abandoned... iLock.
