International Organ Donation Standards

The World Assembly,
RECOGNIZING the extensive systems of organ donation that already exist in member nations,
APPLAUDING the lifesaving potential of organ donation to those with serious injuries or diseases,
LAMENTING the medical issues which can arise from improper handling or storage of donor organs,
DESIRING to eliminate preventable deaths due to poor medical standards,
FORBIDS the deplorable practice of paying donors for organs,
MANDATES that all donor organs be obtained voluntarily via informed consent,
REQUIRES organs to be kept at or below the maximum temperature necessary to remain viable until they are ready for surgery,
BANS the transportation of organs between nations unless the nation of origin has been certified to meet minimum transit and storage requirements,
HEREBY ESTABLISHES the International Organ Standards Board to review existing organ donation procedures in member nations,
EMPOWERS the Board to publish and update a set list of minimum organ storage and handling standards for implementation, and
URGES member nations to suggest continuing improvements to the Board for review.
