January 5th,
Lundenwic, Albion
Republic of Avalon

The capital was in an odd calm these past few months. Lord Protector Martin had announced that he would be retiring on July 14th. The end of Martin's reign was not altogether unexpected, Martin was turning seventy-one next month, and few expect him to see the mid point of the current decade, much less the end of it. The shock was that he was retiring, most expect him to die in office rather than retiring. The post that he has held for over a decade would soon be open and many Generals have been eyeing the title. Martin's son, Daniel Martin, currently the Second Minister under First Minister Hale had already stated that he would refuse the position if it were offered to him. The younger Martin stated that he was no longer a military man, he was a statesman, if he wanted the title of Lord Protector, he would have remained in the service. Leading contenders for the title of Lord Protector include Admiral Gerald Pender, commander of the Home Fleet, General Alfred Grey of the War Office, and General Gareth Jones, Martin's Chief of Staff. The Lord Protector has stated that he will not be choosing a successor, but will leave it to the Senate (Parliament) to decide.

Likewise, the Senate has announced cuts to the Avalonish Army. Presumably emboldened by Martin's announcement, the Senate has stated that they will be disbanding the South Division. Of the brigades in the division, the 3rd and 17th Brigades will be disbanded effective January of 1804. The 14th Brigade of Central division will also be disbanded to allow the 19th Brigade of the South Division to be transferred into the Central Division. The 19th itself will be renamed the 19th Light Brigade. The Cavalry Regiment and Artillery and Engineers Battalion of the 19th will be disbanded in favor of a third infantry regiment tentatively titled the 95th Regiment of Rifles which will include the Rifle companies of the disbanding Brigades. The 19ths own 43 and 52nd Regiments of foot will be retrained as rifle regiments as well. To help offest the difference, two more line regiments, titled the 101st and 104th Regiments of Foot, will be created and sent to the colonies with the goal of filling them largely with the displaced veterans of the 3rd, 14th and 17th Brigades.

The capital had been in quite the rush. Due to invasion plans of the northern most island of Japan. Ashura leader of the Southern Eclispe Union had stated in public that they wold be helping Kirto of the Northern Eclispe Union. The plans included building several docks in the most northern part of the Eclispe Unions territory. Building 30 troop transport ships and training the soilders for naval invasion. The plan was predicated to be ready in 3 months. Once ready it would commence immediately.

Nanjing, The United Republic of the Orient
Parliament House

The Prime Minister had recently announced plans to build up the navy and start funding more into the armed forces. The Parliament had commissioned roughly 22 ships. This includes one first rate, eight second rates, eleven indiaman trade ships and two third rates. The first rate, which will be named the URNV Linlin, is to be sent to the First South China Fleet, along with five of the eight Second rates. The remaining ships are to be sent to the treasure fleet to begin trading with Avalon. In addition, colonists are preparing for a trip to settle in the philippines. The colonies are projected to have at least 18,000 civillians and 2 Brigades. They will be accompanied by 18 ships of the Republican navy, a total of five third rates, three second rates and two frigates and the rest sloops of wars. The size of the ships is to deter pirates, raiders, and other foreign fleets. 25 brigades are being sent to Korea, to be posted in several fortresses. The North China fleet, consisting of 20 ships of the line is patroling the waters. A Furthur 15 brigades are being sent to fortify Yantai, Qingdao, and Beijing. The rest of the military will remain in the regular postings along the coast. Two brigades are being created to expand deeper into China. There is a third fleet in the Sea of Japan, two hundred kilometers off of Sakhalin.

Possible Opportunity for trade.

An Oriental Dignitary is being sent to the Republic of Avalon and the American Republic to try and broker a trade deal, where the goods of the orient will export lucrative products such as tea, porcelain, silk, and nankeen, which will be paid in silver. Other products that other nations would desire are abundant in the Oriental Republic.

The South accepts the Dignitary into the city of Norfolk Virginia. The Virginia governor Calvin Jackson and Colonel Francis August wait at the port to greet the foreign visitor. Negotiations begin in the afternoon as the Southern officials attempt to trade Confederate cotton, opium, tobacco, and iron for Asian Tea and silk.

We deeply thank the honourable governor for receiving our dignitary respectfully. However, we would like to remind the republic that Opium is strictly forbidden in the Oriental republic. In addition, we do not require tobacco or Iron, as those are abundant in the Orient. We would like to inquire on the demand of Oriental products such as tea, porcelain and silk in the Southern Republic of America?

The governor informs the ambassador that silk is not in high demand, as cotton is very abundant in the south. And porcelain is not needed as the south has cheaper glass as a substitute. However the governor does point out that tea may be a valuable item in the south.

While we do understand that there is no real need for our luxury products, they are luxury products. Silk is a beautiful and smooth material, perfect for creating beautiful and comfortable clothes. Porcelain is also more ideal for dining affairs. The Oriental republic truly belives that both nations can benefit greatly from the lucrative trade of porcelain and silk.

It is unfortunate that our trade agreement cannot be as expansive as we had hoped, but as our great proverb Laozi once states: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step". We have no need for indentured servants or cotton, however, we will do know that on your same continent, there is an abundance of horses, which, in the Orient, we are a little short of. We are also willing to trade tea for gold.

September 4th,
Lundenwic, Albion
Republic of Avalon

After an extended selection process, the choose successor of the Lord Protector was finally approved by the Senate, Admiral Gerald Pender has been promoted to Lord Protector. Vice Admiral Lawrence Nichols, his former execute officer has been promoted to commander of the Home Fleet. Pender and Warwick had been political allies when the latter was still Admiral of the Home Fleet, a great help to the Navy man's quest to be the Lord Protector.

Now the First Minister and his loyal lieutenant, Daniel Martin, we waiting in the First Minister's office for the delegation from the United Republic of the Orient. "These men wish to trade with us?" Warwick asked Martin

"As far as we can surmise that is their only intention, if they have ulterior motives, they are better at hiding them then we are at finding them." Martin replied. "I have spoken to a few of our people who were in the Orient only a few months previously, they report the same to me, trade is their goal."

"That is your view as Foreign Minister?" As Second Minister of the State, Martin had a number of portfolios under his command, including Foreign Affairs and served as de facto Spymaster of the Republic, serving as the one that all Avalonish spymasters and spies reported to or where their reports ended up.

"Yes sir." Martin responded with certainty in his voice.

"Right, Mr. Redford!" Warwick called for his secretary.

As if waiting for the call, the door opened immediately. "sir?" Redford asked.

"Send in the Orientals, we will meet with them today."

"Very good sir." The secretary said as left closing the door behind him. It would take perhaps ten minutes for the secretary to return, leaving the First and Second Ministers of the Republic alone with their thoughts.

"How is your father enjoying his retirement?" Warwick suddenly asked.

"He seems content enough for the moment, though knowing him, it won't last long." Martin responded.

"Yes, that old warhorse won't be kept in the stable for long, eh?" Warwick commented.

"I'm surprised he even got in it in the first place." The Second Minister noted. The younger Martin had been as surprised as anyone to hear of his father's retirement, he had fully expected the man to serve until death. The elder Martin had never quite seemed please when Daniel left the service in favor of politics, but hid it well most of the time.

A knock on the door interrupted their musings.

"Yes?" Warwick asked in a raised tone so the person through it could hear.

"It's Redford sir. I have brought the ambassadors." Redford's voice came through the door.

"Send them in."

A moment later, the door opened and the aid ushered in the Asian ambassadors.

September 7th,
Haven (Havana), Cuba
Republic of Avalon

Colonel Richard Tyson of the newly founded 101st Regiment kept fanning himself as he waited for a meeting with Brigadier Nicholas Becket of the Caribbean Brigade. Tyson had been ready to serve his country, but dear god was this heat not doing him any favors. Tyson had been Colonel of the 77th Regiment of the former 17th Brigade. After the brigade had been disbanded, Tyson became the most senior Colonel without a command, and thus was given control over the 101st. Though if he had known about the heat, he might have retired like Hathaway did.

"Colonel Tyson!" Brigadier Beckett called out.

Tyson stood to greet the man, "sir."

"A pleasure Colonel, come with me, the others are ready."

"Others?" Tyson asked.

"Yes, I know your men would prefer to become accustomed to the climate first, but sadly we need you ready within the month."

"No rest for the weary, eh?"

"Quite right." Beckett agreed.

The two men made their way deeper into the facility before they came upon a pair of rather large doors. "Here we are." Beckett said as he stepped in.

Stepping inside, Tyson observed the other figures in the room, ten seated men, all senior or flag officers by the looks of it.

"Colonel Tyson, I would like to meet the military leadership of Cuba. Your fellow Colonels: James Edwards, George Michaelson, William Plunkett and Steven York and our commander, Rear General Howard Gates." The army men nodded to their fellow officer as they were introduced.

"And from our Naval brethren, we have Admiral Geoffrey Kirk, Vice Admiral John Franklin and Captains Ronald White, Henry Quinn and John Eton." The Naval men offered their own greetings when as their names were called.

Tyson nodded before recovering, "I assume we haven't all been brought together for a spot of tea?"

"Indeed." Captain White responded, "we are mostly here for the sandwiches."

"The tea's just a bonus." Colonel York added.

Kirk coughed to get the groups attention back. "As riveting as this is gentlemen, I am afraid I need to get Colonel Tyson up to speed before we can continue. Colonel, Brigaider, take your seats.

Beckett gestured for Tyson to follow the man to what appeared to be the Army's side of the table. Tyson took the open seat between Colonel Edwards and Plunkett while Becket sat down next to Gates.

"Colonel, we are planning a...liberation I suppose one could call it." Kirk began.

"Invasions are frowned upon by the new bosses." Edwards whispered. "We only liberate now."

"And as you may have guessed, it isn't just a small rock in the middle of the sea. It's something a smidgen larger...."

September 13th,
Borderland, New Prydain
Republic of Avalon

Captain David Ricken led his company along the line, he had been sent to survey the borderland to expand the colony. General Pride had put the 104th to work as soon as they had landed. Now they were walking along the border, shooting anyone not wearing Avalonish colors.

Mr. Shinra looks out from the capital in Nieblham city, he successfully gathered all the nearby tribes into one single state, well almost all. There was still some tribes that were undecided. And now as leader of a nation he had to even more work to do. First thing was to secure food and defenses for his nation. Many of the people in Nieblham already were farmers, so that wouldn't be a huge issue but he needed ships, guns, powder, and even more. He looked at his maps, the Oriental republic might assist him, but Mr. Shinra's time as a sailor taught him that the people of the OR love resources, gold, silver, gems all of it. He looked out from his window towards the mountain if he could increase the output of the mines he might just be able to secure enough money to buy some weapons.

The Southern army attacks the lightly armed Seminole warriors with a massive infantry and cavalry charge. The Southerners order the Seminole warriors to surrender and lower their weapons or face decimation at the hands of the Southerners.

The army of Mississippi launches a attack on the city of Panama. A Southern envoy is sent to tell the town leader before the attack to surrender the city to the Southern army.
