Greetings! I'm currently plotting to bring a nation onto the FT scene and looking to get a few likely parties together to partake in the festivities. If you haven't already scarpered, then here's the lowdown:
The background:
Long ago the galaxy was a lot larger than it was today. Not physically, but in terms of having space to move about in. The Sebahapet, the Starfarers in their own language, being the only race known at the time and in that region of the galaxy to possess the powers of interstellar travel, took advantage of this and spread across many worlds, building great monuments to themselves. Theirs was not an empire so much as a vague coalition of more or less culturally aligned worlds, through which the people of their race moved freely. Such were the vast resources available to every individual that concepts of statehood and politics dissolved, and for a while, this was good.
The end came as something of a surprise.
Exactly what the 'Abkhat' referred to in the records of that age were is unclear. If the Sebahapet ever had the technology to determine such, it was lost in the strife of the millennia-long conflicts. Details are scarce, but the Abkhat seem to have had some issue with the lifestyle of the Sebahapet, because they proceeded to embark on a galactic scale genocide, both sides engaging in conflict which purged much of a galactic arm of all life. The Abkhat fed on the energy the Starfarers' civilization had freed up. Ultimately, it was believed, they destroyed themselves gorging on the cosmic energies available to them via their newly stolen technology. The Starfarers did not wait around to find out what their plan was. The decision was made to hide their remaining civilization until such time as the galaxy was somewhat more stable.
Thus, we find ourselves in the present day on the world of Barazgathol, a colony of the industrious but until now quite isolated people who are quite happy to keep themselves to themselves while selling ore and fuel to passing traders at high but not entirely unreasonable rates, which is generally more than you can say for most people in this sector who'll rob you blind in a second and probably try to blow you out of the sky if they think there's half a chance of making back money spent on ammo.
It is on this little world that a certain individual working the mines happens to come into contact with a relic of the ancient Sebahapet. From there a sequence of events begins which will most certainly effect the local economy of Barazgathol to some extent, but on a more notable scale might well impact the galaxy itself.
Where you might come in:
Initially the only people with any reason to be in the vicinity of Barazgathol will be modest smalltime traders, down-on-their-luck bounty hunters and even less lucky smugglers. These individuals will be what steers things to come, though, because of the well known principal that it doesn't matter who discovers a new continent, it's the person that gets back first that's important.
A few individuals will happen to be present to witness the events of the discovery, and those individuals may take any number of actions, ranging from attempting to secure the artifact in question for themselves, immediately running off to get some friends, or even attempting to destroy it right off the bat (if they should so desire, although that will most likely not end well.) Life is about choices. They're not always good ones.
The prize at stake is access to a potentially vast pool of energy from a questionably ethical source, the knowledge of an ancient species of beings from the dawn of the galaxy, or just the bragging rights to owning a really cool thing.
What you can expect:
Angry space dwarfs.
Ancient godlike beings of vast knowledge and power currently highly upset at being deprived of their vast knowledge and godlike powers.
Gritty space dive bars.
Deep exploration of gender paradigms
Explosions
Haggling, backstabbing, double dealing and similar.
Possibly huge space battles depending on who shows up (note that these probably won't influence the actual outcome of the story. But if you want to have a huge space battle I certainly don't mind.)
If all my rambling hasn't put you off thus far, here's how you can express your interest:
Post something along the lines of "hey, this seems neat. I'd like to join!" Maybe provide some example of a previous RP you have been in. Or maybe just provide some example of your stunning prose in the form of a 8 alliterated sentences about your favorite flavor of ice cream. Or just some other example of how wonderfully creative you are. A short description of any particular characters you'd like to get involved would be wise as well, and perhaps any interesting possessions or connections they might have, along the lines of ships, military credentials or maybe how they're secretly a spy for your version of the KGB. Things like that.
