The Regency

A Song of Ice and Fire Roleplay set during the minority of Aegon III Targaryen

The Dance of the Dragons was unprecedented in its time, a civil war fought between rival claimants to the Iron Throne. Brother fought sister, both human and dragon, over the course of two bloody years. The fighting brought in fighters from six of the seven kingdoms, as well as the Three Sisters in Essos. The land was ravaged with dragonflame and tens of thousands died in battle or as a result of the conflict. By the end House Targaryen had lost nearly all of their prized dragon mounts as well as the majority of their bloodline. Only four of their number were known to have survived following the end of hostilities and none of them had reached adulthood. Indeed the Dance had very nearly brought an end to Targaryen rule over Westeros.

It is the year 132AC, with the new king a sullen and moody boy, far from capable of looking after a realm still bearing weeping sores from the war, another unprecedented event occurred: a regency of seven lords was called up to guide the realm through the subsequent years of rebuilding. Whatever noble or upstanding notions that might have put the lords on the council were quickly evaporated as the reality of the situation sunk in. These men had the power to directly manipulated the king in to granting them the influence they needed in order to uplift their family far beyond their ancestral station. This has turned the good bad, and the bad worse.

With the first year of the regency now ended and already two regents having been replaced it has become apparent that the council is very fragile. A single slip could easily result in death or at the very least dishonourary resignation. For the leading families of Westeros, both are prophesies they would happily kill to keep unfulfilled.

While this RP is generally a sandbox, with players able to undertake their missions and plots in order to further their own ambitions, there is a focus on the cooperative dealings between the council and the rest of the realm as they attempt to bring order to a bleeding people. At irregular intervals new issues both big and small will present themselves for the players to deal with, or alternatively, ensure that they blow out of proportions. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, failure going only to those who are unable to sufficiently make the most of the turmoil.

The main desire for the various nobles and men and women in power is to secure their position with the young king. Aegon is a young boy, as-of-yet unfit to govern the realm. As a result, it is in the best interests of the rival lords to win him over to their side. Such a lasting union would propel their house in to a position rivaling even their own Lord Paramounts. Even when a regent wins the support of the king, the plotting cannot stop there. With power comes paranoia. With paranoia enemies.

This is a character-driven rp focusing on the judgement making of the council in order to combat a series of daily issues facing the realm. Even as these meetings become the battleground between wills of the various lords try to get one up over their rivals, the regents must also fight in the shadows, signing deals with heretics, foreigners and hated foes in order to win themselves more power and secure yet more offices for their own people.

Even so it is not just the nobles who are involved in the subtle power-struggle over the king. Criston Cole will forever go down in the White Book as one of the more infamous of the kingsguard brothers, his ambition and personal grievances getting ahead of his oaths of loyalty. In the aftermath of the Dance most of the seven sworn brothers were until recently enemies, prepared to kill the other. This friction has nurtured their own ambitions.

Each player is permitted one regent lord as well as a member of the Kingsguard, or, if they are so inclined, one of the surviving Targaryen children. In the future other offices and titles associated with the council, as well as positions within Kings Landing's City Watch, will be opened up either due to activity or event.

The characters can either be taken from those canonically present within the council and kingsguard, or custom nobles taken from one of the canon Houses of Westeros.

In the event of the death of a player character they can app another straight away. However there will be realistic modifiers applied in the event of the new character being the former's heir. Indeed if it deemed that the new character created (or the player's other character(s)) are there simply to get OOC revenge then there will be serious repercussions.

Council decisions are made by a majority vote. Either OP or a player will bring up an issue on which a discussion is made, negotiations on what they will actually be agreeing to pass before calling the vote. While on paper this gives the same amount of authority to a minor lord as a lord paramount, the truth is quite different. While voting against a powerful rival may have an immediate advantage in the long term it might spell eventual disaster. Instead false fronts and abstaining votes are the general point of call.

There is a general hierarchy of power within the council and other major figures. Roughly it is as such:
- Hand of the King
- Lord Regent(s)
- Regent
- Lord Commander of the Kingsguard
- Lord Commander of the City Watch

While officially the Hand speaks with the authority of the king, the regent council possesses combined power far greater than what the lone Hand can secure. Likewise, the City Watch is a more powerful weapon than the Kingsguard, however it is generally accepted that the Kingsguard are of a greater standing. The Hand has the legal power to act with only limited interaction with the rest of the regent council, failure to win over their support will lead to a very public downfall.

Duels between two characters are be decided by either one of two ways: OP rolls the fight based on equipment (valyrian swords), physical condition (tall, quick, dwarf, wounded etc), skill and RP quality. The alternative is a player-agreed outcome. In general a duel is not to the death, although death of one combatant almost always settles the matter. A trial by seven (or any other ritualised combat) is dealt with in this way, each turn pitting the remaining victors against each other until one side is defeated or the fight is stopped.

Battles between armed hosts follow this same general layout. However, especially when combating NPCs, the OP will make rolls dependent on the quality of the RP, complexity of the orders (against the skill of the soldiers), terrain etc.

Assassinations and other covert operations are generally left up to the players to carry out. While some leeway will be permitted, if an assassination has been thoroughly RPed out (and doubly so if more than a single player has an invested interest in its success) then the OP will decide if it is successful.

There are only two limitations in regards to what characters can be apped for:
1. Only canonically surviving Targaryen children are permitted. This is to ensure the focus is on the shaky future of the Targaryen dynasty and the nobles blatant fighting over them.
2. No ruling Lord Paramounts may be part of the Regent council. Younger brothers, cousins and the like are permitted. This is a balancing decision so that everyone is generally on the same level.

CODEWORD: Spudnik

In relation to House, this is the canon noble family from which the character originates. The exception is for kingsguard (or later, city watch) who can be from a minor/new house which is not found canonically.
For appearance a picture is sufficient, although written description is equally acceptable.
For Rank/Position begin with their title (Ser, Master, Lord, Princess etc) then by their office (Brother, Regent, Lord Commander, Lord Regent, Hand of the King, none, etc).
For Relatives, immediate family members should be referenced, even if they do not show up in the actual IC. If the character is not part of the main branch of the house then the canon main branch must be referenced. If the canon family are not known, then custom should be created.
Biography should be at least three good-sized paragraphs. The more bio the better fleshed out the background, which makes it easier for players to create intertwining biographies as opposed to having seven strangers within the council. It will also double as the RP example.

Custom characters replace canon, but if a house does not have a player character then they follow canon as closely as can be made. If playing a canon character, then please take in to consideration the canon around the character. A strong-willed woman in canon will not suddenly start the RP as being easily cowed without sufficient explanation.

1: OP/Co-OP have final say. No exceptions.

2: OP/Co-OP reserve the right to deny any application for whatever reason.

3: No God-modding or Meta-gaming.

4: No directly controlling another player character unless given permission to do so. You may control any and all NPC’s that are not central to any major plotline.

5: Posts must be a paragraph minimum. One-liners are unacceptable.

6: Try to use correct grammar. No walls of text that are not broken up into paragraphs.

7: Be courteous to one another in the OOC. Feel free to be as much of a dick in the IC as you desire.

8: Be active should you apply. No need to be online 24/7 (as I certainly will not be) but don’t go through the effort of joining and never post anything. If you will be gone for any significant amount of time please leave a message stating that you will be gone. Those who do not risk having their characters killed off.

9: You character cannot be overpowered. You can die and every challenge should be just that, a challenge. Any overpowered characters will bring forth the wrath of the OP in the form of even worse obstacles and outcomes.

10: Have fun.

Accepted Applications:
Name: Lord Mathis Osgrey
Year of Birth: 80 A.C.
House: House Osgrey
Appearance:
Image

Personality: Lord Mathis is a loyal man, committed to his House and to the Iron Throne. He is very stoical and reserved in his emotions, often coming off as cold. Mathis has a reputation as a plotter and a planner. He was not such much as warrior in the Dance, but a tactician. He holds a very strong grudge against those who supported the Greens, although he is unlikely to show it, both because of his stoical nature and because he has no wish to make enemies without need. Mathis is commited to furthering House Osgrey's fortunes, and seeks to reclaim Coldmoat for his House.
Rank/Position: Lord Regent, Master of Laws
Relatives:
Lady Jenna Rowan ~ Wife, age 43
Ser Jonathor Osgrey ~ Son, age 19.
Lady Alys Osgrey ~ Daughter, age 14.
Ser Martyn Osgrey ~ Brother, age 35.
Lady Elinor Bulwer ~ Wife of Martyn, age 29.

Biography:

Mathis Osgrey was born the eldest son of Lord Renly Osgrey, the Lord of Standfast. He was a curious and inquisitive child, and his father brought in several maesters to teach him, and Mathis proved an eager student. He was particularly interested in history and law, and became a master at the game of Cyvasse. For a short while he even considered becoming a Maester. Although certainly studious, Mathis did not neglect martial studies, becoming fairly proficient in the sword and lance, although never at any skill to match the great warrior of Westeros. The military matters of the House were often filled by his younger brother, Ser Martyn Osgrey. Mathis and Martyn both attended the infamous tourney at King's Landing in 111 A.C., at which they were firmly won over to the side of the Blacks.

By the time the Dance of the Dragons began, Mathis had succeeded his father as lord of Coldmoat. He wed Jenna Rowan, the daughter of the Lord Rowan, strengthening House Osgrey's position within the Reach, and worked to improve his houses fortunes by expanding Standfast, and by establishing diplomatic ties to the great Houses of the Reach, When the Dance began, Coldmoat immediately declared for the Blacks. Due to his quick mind, Mathis was present in several Black councils of war, and helped in planning the strategies of the black forces. Mathis and Martyn both fought for the entirety of the war, with both of them being knighted; Mathis for a leading a charge of Osgrey Knights in the Battle by the Lakeshore, and Martyn for saving the life of Ben Blackwood in the Second Battle of Tumbledon. The forces of House Osgrey then joined the forces of Cregan Stark as he marched south.

Mathis was involved in the Hour of the Wolf, and aided Cregan Stark in seeking out those suspected of murdering Aegon II. Although Mathis loathed Aegon, he found the idea of murdering a king quite revolting. Mathis was particular satisfied by the execution of Larys Strong, a man who he despised, who he had once called "A snake in the body of a cripple". Mathis also aided Baela and Rhaena Targaryen in saving the life of Lord Corlys Velaryon. Because of the influence he held in Black circles, and because of his keen mind, Mathis was named as one of King Aegon's Regents. Martyn has also been in King's Landing, serving as Mathis' enforcer. Mathis has proven quite keen to the regency, and may prove to be the man to finally restore House Osgrey to it's former fortunes.

Name: Ser Gwayne Connington
Year of Birth: 85AC
House: Connington of Griffin's Roost
Appearance: Gwayne is a large man with broad shoulders and thick arms. He is still handsome in the face, despite his many years. His hair is as red as flames with streaks of silver running through it and his large beard.
Personality: In his youth Gwayne was a carefree boy, prone to flights of fancy and daydreaming. His father did all in his power to break this habit but, had little success. Though after years of hardship and shattered ideals, Gwayne is firmly grounded in reality and cynicism. Even his brothers in the kingsguard are not above his suspicious mind. His only purpose now is to protect his king and ensure the mistakes of his predecessors are not repeated.
Rank/Position: Ser, Lord Commander of the Kingsguard
Relatives:
-Myria Connington(sister), 90AC
-Lord Arne Connington(cousin), 96AC

-Lord Rolf Connington(father), 66AC-128AC
-Lady Jeyne Connington(mother), 65AC-120AC

Biography: Gwayne was born in 85AC in his family's ancient seat. He was his father's first-born child and natural heir. He had a life of privilege, being born into one of the most powerful houses in the Stormlands. He trained with great knight and warriors from as far away as Norvos, and was tutored by wise maesters and Eastern mystics. As a boy, Gwayne would stand on the tallest tower of his father's castle and imagine himself soaring the skies on the back of a griffin. Lord Rolf quickly put an end to such nonsense, bringing his son back to earth and the reality in front of them. In Gwayne's fifth year his mother gave birth to another child, Jeyne. She was a quiet and sickly babe. The maester did not expect her to live to her fifth nameday. However, by her sixth year the maester had passed on and Jeyne was alive and she and Gwayne had become quite close.

Gwayne and Jeyne were understandably upset when twelve year old Gwayne was sent of to squire in the Dornish marches for Lord Selmy. It was in Lord Selmy's service that Gwayne's true skill as a swordsman was revealed. The stormlords of the marches were either raiding the Dornish of being raided by them, this led to an excess of fighting. Gwayne fought and slew his first foe at fourteen. He killed his first knight at fifteen and received a knighthood as a reward. Despite his father's insistence that he return to Griffin's Roost, Gwayne took to the roads as a hedge knight. The Red Griffin as he became known, traveled the realm from the Red Mountains to White Harbor and points between. Ser Gwayne rode in two dozen tourneys and won his fair share. When not jousting, Gwayne lent his sword to righteous causes and developed a reputation as a fine knight. In 104AC Gwayne took part in the Tourney at Maidenpool, honoring Viserys' ascension to the throne. Despite being bested by Prince Daemon in both the melee and the lists the two developed a mutual respect. Gwayne also met the knight Criston Cole, a man he found to be vainglorious and rather unlikable.

By 105AC Gwayne had returned to Griffin's Roost and his father's good graces. There he would prepare for his eventual rise to the lordship of house Connington. It was around this time that a betrothal was arranged between Ser Gwayne and a daughter of Lord Tarth. Lord Rolf was finally content in his son's acceptance of his duty to family. But, this all came to an end when a raven arrived from Prince Daemon Targaryen for Ser Gwayne. The Prince had begun to put together a force of men to wrest control of the Stepstones from the Kingdom of the Three Daughters and asked for Gwayne to accompany him. For nearly a decade Gwayne would serve in Daemon's army as they fought for control of the island chain.

During this time his engagement to Lord Tarth's daughter was ended. Lord Tarths believing the extended engagement as a slight against his house and threatening to geld the Red Griffin if he ever saw the man again. Not long after a second raven arrived, this one from Lord Rolf. Gwayne had been disowned by his father and banished from Griffin's Roost. His father cited Gwayne's wanderlust and lack of dedication, and had Gwayne's cousin, the lack wit Arne, named his heir and wed him to Jeyne to legitimize the inheritance. Despite the crushing news, Gwayne felt a sense of relief. The requirements and expectations of a lord's son were often to much for the man to bear and now he was free to do as he pleased. After Daemon's departure from the Stepstones, Gwayne remained for a time before becoming tired of the ineffectual kings who ruled following Daemon and departing for Dragonstone at the behest of Prince Daemon.

There he was introduced to Princess Rhaenyra and rumored to have been her lover for a time. Gwayne would remain on the island in service to Rhaenyra, even after Daemon's departure to the Free Cities. While there he joined the guard of the Princess and her husband, Ser Velaryon. He served ably for many years, as things in the realm were peaceful and calm. Gwayne would become fond of Rhaenyra's sons and even took part in their arms training. After a few years Prince Daemon returned from his exile in the Free Cities with his bride and twin daughters. Gwayne greeted his old friend and companion heartily. At the Princes behest Gwayne accompanied Sers Laenor Velaryon and Qarl Correy to Spicetown in 120AC. It was Gwayne who returned with the solemn news of Laenor's murder and Qarl's escape. Gwayne was later on hand when Rhaenyra and Daemon were wed.

At the outbreak of the Dance, Ser Gwayne accompanied Prince Daemon to Harrenhal where he took part in the bloodless Assault on Harrenhal and later the Battle of the Burning Mill and defeat of the Brackens at Stone Hedge. Gwayne was privy to all manner of Daemon's plans and councils. When word of Lucerys' death reached Harrenhal, Daemon vowed vengeance against the children of his nephew. Gwayne protested such a dastardly act. Daemon dismissed him from the room and his service on the spot. The Prince added that Gwayne and his soft heart were better suited for guard duty on Dragonstone. Gwayne was distraught at the thought of a man he had once held in high esteem, conspiring to murder children. Seeing no other options Gwayne did return to Dragonstone to rejoin the household guard of Queen Rhaenyra. Upon his arrival at Dragonstone however, Gwayne was instead offered a position with the queensguard. Lord Commander Darklyn had perished attempting to tame Seasmoke, and Ser Erryk had been slain by his treacherous brother. As such the queensguard needed bodies and Gwayne readily accepted the position.

As his first duty Gwayne was sent to the Stormlands to rally the lords there to the Queen's cause. His first stop was his ancestral home of Griffin's Roost. There he was met by his cousin and brother-in-law, Lord Arne Connington. Gwayne suffered numerous insults and quips from, Arne following his request that they join the blacks. Realizing he could do no good here Gwayne rose to leave only to have Arne order his arrest. Gwayne cut down four men before he and Arne crossed blades. Arne was as clumsy a swordsman as could be and Gwayne soon had him disarmed and on his knees. Arne's life was spared only by the pleas of Jeyne Connington, who carried his child in her. Gwayne bid his sister farewell and left the castle seeking to put as many leagues between himself and his enraged cousin.

Gwayne hadn't made it halfway to the Kingswood before he was set upon by half a dozen knights from Storm's End. Gwayne slew them to a man but, suffered a cutting blow to his leg in the process. Now certainly reviled and hunted by every stormlord, Gwayne sought a way back to Dragonstone. By the time Gwayne arrived at Massey's Hook, word had reached him that Rhaenyra had taken King's Landing. Ser Gwayne altered course and presented himself before the Queen. He was welcomed back despite his failure to turn any of the stormlords. He continued his service as a queensguard while the smallfolk grew to resent their new Queen. The situation reached a tipping point when Lord Corlys was imprisoned and his forces departed the city. In one night thousands of peasants rose up and began to flock to madmen who claimed to be Targaryens. Soon the gates of the city were lost and unguarded. And worst of all five dragons were slain when the Dragonpit was stormed by an army of rioters. The city was clearly lost and Rhaenyra fled from the city.

Gwayne was given the sorrowful task of guarding the Queen retreat and sealing the secret passages. It was not long before rioters broke through the defenses and into the Red Keep. The Red Griffin slew a score of men before he was overtaken and beat half to death. When he awoke Gwayne was a prisoner of a false king, Trystane Truefyre. In his prison, Trystane realized his cell adjoined that of Lord Corlys. Lord Corlys explained that he and Ser Gwayne had been sparred death by the fact that they may be worth a ransom. For nearly a month Corlys and Gwayne suffered near daily beatings and survived on rats and moldy bread. On more than one occasion the elderly Lord Corlys was nearly beaten to death, until Gwayne drew the attention of the assailants and took the beatings intended for the Sea Snake.

Eventually, a great commotion arose from the city and the keep. The next day the dungeons were emptied and their inhabitants brought before the city's new ruler, King Aegon II. Lord Corlys was freed and set to the small council but, Ser Gwayne's fate seemed far more dire. The only reason he was not executed on the spot were the protests of Lord Corlys on his behalf. King Aegon II decreed his fate would rest in the hands of Lord Baratheon upon his return, for it was Lord Baratheon who's bannerman Gwayne had assaulted and his knights who he had slain. So once again Gwayne was sent to the dungeons, though he found his cell much more accommodating.

However, when he was next brought before the Iron Throne it was not Aegon the Elder who sat in judgement but, Lord Cregan Stark acting as Hand of the King for Aegon the Younger. Lord Cregan had little interest in Gwayne, instead seeking justice for the murder of Aegon II. As such Ser Gwayne was named to the kingsguard of Aegon III and raised to the rank of Lord Commander, having been the only surviving member of the now defunct queensguard. It was only after this appointment that Gwayne learned the fate of the realm following the Riot of King's Landing. The death of all other members of the queensguard, Aegon feeding Rhaenyra to his dragon, and the final battle on the kingsroad. Since his appointment, Ser Gwayne has worked to restore the honor of the kingsguard and ensure the safety of the young king.

Phalnia wrote:Name: Lord Jasper Mormont
Year of Birth: 110 AC
House: Mormont of Bear Island
Appearance: Lord Jasper is a grizzled looking man with a harsh face. He stands a few inches shy of six feet and weighs roughly two-hundred pounds. His face and body bear many scars and old wounds. He keeps a large brown beard that manages to cover the most disfiguring of his facial scars.
Personality: Jasper is a realistic grounded man who has little time and less patientce for folly and foolishness. He brings with him Northman sensibilities and honor, though he is not averse to play the games of southern lords.
Rank/Position: Lord, Lord Regent
Relatives:
-Jor Mormont(son), 129AC
-Lady Lya Mormont(mother), 89AC

-Mara Mormont(wife), 109AC-129AC
-Lord Bers Mormont(father), 88AC-129AC
-Lord Bers "Little Bers" Mormont(brother), 105AC-130AC
-Lord Cerge Mormont(brother), 109AC-130AC

Biography: Jasper was born the third son of Lord Bers Mormont on Bear Island, one-hundred and ten years after Aegon's Conquest. As a third son Jasper was never intended nor expected to take his fathers' seat. As such he was largely left to his own devices, though he was put through extensive martial training by his father's master-at-arms, and a somewhat substandard teaching in letters and numbers. In his free time Jasper explored the woods and wilds of Bear Island. It was at the age of thirteen that Jasper was attacked during such a trip. While riding along a rarely traveled path, a bear lumbered out from the brush and roared with murderous ferocity. Armed with just a sword Jasper fought valiantly, even after having his horse mauled. He delivered a killing thrust with his sword into the bears neck, breaking it off at the hilt in the process and receiving a matching pair of claw marks down his chest. He returned the next day with his father and brothers to find the scene perfectly preserved in the snow. His father beamed with pride in his youngest son, and his brothers seethed with envy. That same day Lord Bers ordered a cloak be made from the bears hide, to honor his son's deed.

Time past slowly on Bear Island, and the drudgery on the island was rarely broken. Though there was one such occasion in Jasper's time there. His father desperate to strengthen his family's ties to the mainland arranged for his three sons to marry women belonging to three lordly Northern houses. A grand ceremony was held in which all three brothers were wed at the same time. Bers was wed to a daughter of Lord Karstark, a fat and dull woman. Cerge to a sister of Lord Umber, who resembled to closely her houses sigil. And finally, Jasper to the cousin of Lord Stout, Mara, the fairest yet least important of the three. Again his brothers were envious of their youngest brother, preferring a beautiful wife to a well-born one.

In 129AC, Mara carried her first child, Jor, to term after two stillbirths. This was the third child born of the triple wedding and only son. Despite the successful birth Mara languished away. The maester declared there was nothing he could do for her, her life was in the hands of the gods. The gods were cruel and for a month she lay wasting away, unable to even feed her own babe. Jasper could watch his wife writhe in agony no longer. He pleaded with the maester, for something to end Mara's suffering. Eventually he relented and presented him with a vial of sweetsleep, which had been used to treat Cerge's fits as a boy. The maester instructed Jasper in the correct dosage to send Mara into a never-ending slumber. That night Jasper visited his wife one last time with their son in one hand and a goblet in the other. By the next morning Mara had passed but, Jasper felt no relief. Despite his father's urging Jasper refused another bride.

It was later that year that the beginnings of a harsh winter were felt in Bear Island. It wasn't long after that a raven arrived declaring summer ended and a long winter coming, followed by ravens bearing messages of dragons fighting among themselves and lords across the realm declaring for greens and blacks. This was of little concern to Jasper or many of the people on the island. Soon however, word came from Winterfell. A host was gathering at Barrowtown and the men were needed to fight in the south. Lord Bers ordered his two youngest sons to take a complement of fifty men-at-arms and riders as their contribution to the host. However, by the time their ships set sell their numbers had nearly tripled with many men seeking an escape from the hunger and cold on the horizon. Jasper, Cerge and their men arrived at Barrowtown in short order and marched south as members of the two-thousand strong "Winter Wolves". It was at Moat Cailin that the two received their first bit of ill news from home. Their father had been quickly taken by a winter chill. Their brother Bers had taken the title of Lord of Bear Island and the ancestral blade, Longclaw. Bers was clear in his message that they were to continue south and represent their house.

The Mormonts were surely well represented when the Winter Wolves and their "black" allies met the westerland army on the shores of the God's Eye lake. They were first among the vanguard that charged the Lannister men, and they payed dearly for it. Two score of the Mormont men lay dead and dying and Jasper barely avoided losing an eye, instead bearing a gash from his jaw to his hairline. They were next marched to the south side of the lake where they caught another green army unawares, this one led by Ser Criston "Kingmaker" Cole. This battle, aptly named the Butcher's Ball, was a quick victory for the Winter Wolves and the blacks. But, the joy was short lived. Not long after the massacre word arrived of more deaths on Bear Island. Little Bers had perished much like their father. As had Bers daughter, Cerge's wife and their daughter from a combination of cold and hunger. Lord Cerge was quick to recover from the shock informing Jasper and their men that they would remain in the south until this war was finished or their lives ended. Numbering less than a hundred, the men of Bear Island followed Lord Dustin south to Tumbleton. There they gave battle to the men of the Reach and Lord Hightower. The blacks sustained heavy losses from the fresh army of Reachmen. But, fearless as ever Lord Dustin led the Northmen in a charge straight to the heart of the green army. It was then and there that Lord Dustin slew Lord Ormund Hightower and his cousin Ser Bryndon Hightower, before succumbing to his own wounds. In a blind rage Cerge charged into the ranks of the Reach knights vanishing for good. Despite his brothers disappearance and the death of Lord Dustin, Jasper was sure that the death of the Hightowers would see the greens retreating south. But, in the blink of an eye the tides turned again. The two dragons sworn to blacks cause turned their dragons fire on the town they had previously sought to protect. Jasper seeing no other lords, and for the first time realizing his own ascension, ordered the Winter Wolves to retreat and whatever other blacks remained followed suit. Their losses were great, but their resolve unbroken. For weeks they took to guerrilla tactics, killing greens indiscriminately to avenge the sack of Tumbleton.

Lord Jasper was sure he would dire here in the south, never seeing home again, never to rule his ancestral lands. Though, finally hope arrived. A dragon and its rider had shown in the night bringing thousands of men. Seeing their chance to avenge their loss Lord Jasper ordered what was left of his men to join the battle. As Jasper and his men cut down their foes a great battle raged overhead. Jasper had never learned the names of all the dragons and their riders or to tell them apart on sight. But, by the end of the battle it did not matter. Three dragons lay dead and dying with the fourth fled out of sight. Having failed to take the city and lacking the equipment to lay siege the black army retreated north towards the advancing armies of the North and Vale. Though, before they could join these forces. The remaining Winter Wolves and riverlanders brought battle to Lord Baratheon and his forces on the kingsroad. There they broke his host and Lord Baratheon himself was slain. It was here that Jasper ordered the last of the northmen to march north and join the advancing forces of Lord Cregan Stark.

By the time he met his lord's host explained the losses of Lords Roderick and Cerge, the war had ended. The last major force loyal to Aegon II had been beaten on the kingsroad and the king himself murdered by foul poison. Lord Cregan was not appeased, however. He brought his host to King's Landing were he strong armed the new boy king into naming him hand. In his day long reign as hand Cregan tried twenty-two men executing many and banishing the remainder to the Wall. Then as suddenly as he arrived Lord Cregan left taking Jasper with him. Jasper would return to Bear Island were he would find the island still suffering the harsh winter. He relieved his mother, who was ruling in his stead, and set about to repairing the land and helping the people. After a year of lordship, Jasper received a raven from Winterfell. He was to return south to King's Landing and fill a vacancy on the Council of Regents. There he would serve the interests of the north and Lord Stark. Loyal as always, Jasper journeyed south once again. He brought with him a handful of guards, his family's Valyrian steel sword, and his young son.

Name: Lord Jasper Mormont

Yeah custom characters are the name of the game. I would ask that they be a little older (late thirties, early forties) so that there is some experienced blood on the council.
Cresadine wrote:*snip*

Bio was a little on the short side but as she is a canon character it isn't like you had much to work with. Accepted.

Yeah sure consider it done.

Another younger man but clearly defined reasoning for it. Accepted.

Cannot remember if I stated it precisely but all players are encouraged to write up both a regent and a kingsguard member. If you want a KG to be related to your regent at the start of the RP then the KG must be played by another player, and vise versa.

Name: Baela Targaryen
Year of Birth: 116 AC
House: Targaryen
Appearance:

Personality: Baela is as fearless and stubborn as her father. She thinks that his half brother is weak as a ruler and that she should be placed in the Iron Throne to maintain the order in Westeros.
Rank/Position: Princess
Relatives: Baela (twin sister), Laena Velaryon (mother, deceased), Daemon (deceased, father), Rhaenyra (deceased, step-mother), Aegon III (half brother), Viserys (half brother), Jaehaera (first cousin), Rhaenyra (deceased, first cousin), Aegon II (first cousin)
Biography: Baela was born in Pentos. When she was half a year old, she and her mother and twin sister sailed from Pentos to Driftmark. In 117 AC she and Rhaena were presented to the King, Viserys I Targaryen, by their father, Prince Daemon Targaryen. Baela grew up on Dragonstone.

Towards the end of the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, as Dragonstone fell to King Aegon II Targaryen, Baela was able to escape from her bedchambers as the door was being smashed down. She managed to reach Moondancer in the stable where the castle dragons were kept. There she loosed her chains and strapped a saddle onto her. As Aegon II flew Sunfyre over Dragonmont's smoking peak and made his descent, Baela rose up on Moondancer to meet him.

The dragons fought in the pre-dawn sky, eventually slamming into the ground still fighting. Aegon jumped from the saddle twenty feet from the ground but Lady Baela stayed with Moondancer all the way down. Burned and battered she still found the strength to undo her saddle chains and crawl away from her dragon as Moondancer coiled into her death throes. Ser Alfred Broome drew his sword to slay Baela, but Ser Marston Waters wrenched the blade from his hand. Tom Tangletongue carried her to Maester Hunnimore.

The lord of Highgarden (Lyonel Tyrell) is just a kid with a sister (Reyna). So you are his uncle or cousin?

Rhaena is very protective to all her siblings, including Aegon - so not likely, though she certainly would not be averse to bringing Aegon under the influence of the twins.

Which means you have less than 7 years old? Because The lord of Highgarden (Lyonel Tyrell) is just a kid which means the Reach is under a regency.

I'll kill the king, end the regency (I'm the second in line since Viserys is lost in Essos) and create a superpowerful Queendom with Dorne and Essos as vassals.

That's going to be difficult - considering very few would actually support you with Westeros and the fact that Baela is only 16. You would have no support within the Targaryen dynasty (which wouldn't do that much anyway since all are children), and for a host of other reasons which are so obvious I shouldn't have to go into them.

Not really, the mother of Dragons was 16 when she conquered Mereen and Daeron Targaryen was only fourteen when he conquered Dorne. Many suitors and nobles will fight for her hand and the power of a king consort.

And then subsequently lost it after a year. The Mother of Dragons bought Unsullied for that purpose, unfortunately Baela doesn't have an army (and she has no dragons) and probably won't be able to raise one, considering we just went through a disastrous civil war.

Considering Aegon is easily manipulated by the nobles, and someone like Baela is not, I feel most of the major houses (who's members or vassals sit on the council) will support the Regency if Baela makes an attempt.

Baela can easily manipulated too or thats what she make you believe. Aegon is a male which means not dynastic change with Baela... Suitors will appear even a LP will kill to have his Grandchildren or children to seat in the Iron Throne.
