This is a rp about the beginnings of my nation, all fictional of course.
One day, I wish for the Silesian Federation to be a country spanning what used to be Upper and Lower Silesia and the Sudetenland, in Poland (partly Germany) and the Czech Republic respectively. For this to happen, however, the people still have quite some way to go... let us see what this first push brings.
I will be controlling Poland, the Silesian people and, should the need arise, the Czech and/or German governments.
Background:
With lower house parliamentary elections coming up in Poland, the newly founded Silesian Solidarty Party, active in the provinces of Lower Silesia, Opole and Silesia, have been estimated to reach a qualified majority in the constituencies of Walbrzych, Opole and Rybnik. The SSP represents a large part of the Silesian population who, having been ruled over by Austria, Prussia, Germany, Poland and Slovakia in the last century, have been greatly alienated by the national conservative governing party PiS.
The main party line is independence for all Silesian territories currently Polish possessions. The Polish government, which cannot accept such separatist views, has responded to the SSP's growing popularity and increased protests against PiS policies by reinforcing police presence in the affected regions. Branded as provocateurs paid by the EU to destabilise Poland and condemned for harbouring anti-polish sentiments, the people of Silesia grow increasingly restless.
The situation at hand:
Wroclaw, Silesia
Julian Figiel massaged his temples as he leaned against the wall of his new office in the Old Town Hall. He had been placed in charge of the newly established administration of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, which was currently almost entirely under separatist control.
He pondered the events of the day, how a popular uprising, going almost unopposed but for the police officers sent in directly from Warsaw to maintain order, ceased the city and soon enough most larger cities of the entire province. He was proud, but scared: the polish army numbered almost 65,000 active members and they were just a group of enraged political activists. It was time to address the international community
Communiqué from the Temporary Government of the Silesian Republic
Honoured Governments of the World,
Today, our land was bloodied as we were given no choice but to fight in order to live according to our political ideals.
We tried to make our cause peacefully, while retaining an air of friendship with the Republic of Poland but we do not know if this is still possible. After the Silesian Solidarity Party SSP was banned on questionable grounds, we had no choice but to take the province of Lower Silesia by force.
We ask for aid to secure our newly created republic, to mediate and possibly to de-escalate the situation. We hope that you can see the need to back the under-represented and oppressed people of Silesia.
Begging you to help us,
Julian Figiel,
Temporary Head of the Silesian Republic's Administration
24 hours earlier
Julian Figiel burst through the door of the local SSP headquarters: “They just banned our party! The PiS has publicly outlawed us, the police will be here any second now.” With that, the room immediately filled with the voices of around two dozen activists, men and women alike who were only too aware of the tactics used by law enforcement to make political critics stand down.
“Quickly, this way”, a young woman shouted towards Julian, grabbing hold of his wrist and pushing through the crowds of people emerging from various offices and blocking the corridors: “what are you waiting for?”
She sprinted along the hallway, Julian panting behind as she pushed open a fire escape door. Springing down the fire stairs, taking multiple steps at a time, they could hear sirens approaching the building- they had made it out just in time.
She had taken him to her place, where he had finally gotten the chance to ask her name, Gabriela. She had told him it would not be safe for him to go home, the police would be looking for him. He could not believe it. If they did not want to go down in history as just another pesky political party, they would have to rise up...
