His Holiness, Leo XIV has died and his body interred in the Lateran Basilica with Pope Innocent III. Thus a conclave has begun and the doors of the Sistine Chapel sealed. Thus we ask, Which Papabile Will Become the Most Holy Father of the Catholic Church?
Cardinal Simon de Borja, Ambassador to the Inca Court (Age 36)- Moderate: Amicable and Intellectual, Simon is the scion of the Borgia Spanish branch. Open to reform but only after extensive debate and testing. He is currently married to Anawarkhi Ocollo, a noble woman from tahuantnsuyu. Simon serves as the ambassador to the Inca court and is known for his non-conversional interest in the foreign people. He speaks eight languages fluently.
Cardinal Ludovico de'Colonna-Borgia, Gonfalonier of the Papal Army, Duke of Urbino and The Romagna, Former Condotierro Captain (Age 62)- Conservative :Ludovico Borgia is the son of Pope Julius IV and one of his mistresses. He was brought up in the Pope's court and educated by the best tutors. However the area of warfare was his father's talent, and one that he inherited. He is a famous warrior, once slaying several Lutheran warriors in single combat during a recent war. He is a staunch militarist, and wishes to continue his father's mission of making the church preeminent among nations.
Gabriel de Borja, Former Duke of Sevilla, Abbot of Santa María la Real, Fitero (Age 55)- Liberal: Unknown until comments made against the Spanish Crown two years ago, Gabriel was once the Duke of Seville. Due to "a reconciliation of thought" and personal issues, the duke renounced his titles and joined with the Cistercian monks at Fitero when he was thirty. Usually the opposite happens, but Gabriel's voice and opinion were amplified during his time at the abbey. His many letters and essays denouncing the entwined monarchies of Rome and Madrid, as well as ones calling for a Christo-Socialist system earned him many sanctions from the abbey's leadership but also their respect. He was made the abbey's leader five years ago. He was recently brought to the Papal Court by the Late Leo XIV as a source of wisdom.
Alonso de Borja, Prince of Spain (Age 19)- Conservative : The fourth in line to the Spanish Throne, Alonso is the youngest son of the Spanish King and youngest of the papabile. Although he is legally the Spanish Prince, he is not in line for the throne. Alonso was adopted by the king after his sister died giving birth to him. His father is unknown, but rumor says it is kept secret do the possibility that his parentage would hurt relations with a country that shares strained but friendly relations with Rome. Alonso is currently an undergrad student, but well versed in Vatican politics since his birth. His conservative ideals focus on the sancitiy of the family, and he is well known for wishing to return Rome's focus towards the family unit and has more than once stated his wish to rescind the liberal reforms made by past Popes.
Cardinal Jean de Borgia, Duke of Valentinois and Archbishop of Avignon (Age 40)- Moderate: The self-syled Frenchman of the Borgia clan, Jean is the Duke of Valentinois and the great underdog of the papabile. Prostitue-born, Jean grew up as a petty thief and catamite on the streets of France and northern Italy. Under Calixtus' inheritance reforms, Jean became the most controversial case. Allegedly Pope Calixtus IV's great-grandson, Jean's case was disputed in many courts before Pope Leo XVI dispensed with his inheritance and granted him Avignon and Valentinois in recompense. Jean is practical at his core, ignoring politics and intrigue to do what needs to be done.
