Warhammer 40,000: Imperium Mechanicus [OOC/Open]

Postby The Empire of Pretantia » Mon Jan 25, 2016 5:06 pm

It is the forty-first millennium. Ten thousand years ago the Emperor of Mankind founded an Imperium that collected all humanity within its domain, defended by the great Legiones Astartes. But just as mankind entered a golden age, tragedy struck. Warmaster Markus Oberon was slain, initiating a civil war that destroyed the Imperium as we knew it. Many primarchs of the Legiones Astartes struggled to reunite the Imperium while others sought to forge their own realms. Countless millions, including too many among the space marines, turned to the foul powers of Chaos, and among the unrest the Mechanicum struck to take humanity for their own.

For years man fought man, until the Mechanicum played its last bid on Terra: the biomechanical being known as Mechanicus Prime. Upon the steps of the Imperial Palace Mechanicus Prime mortally wounded the Emperor, and dragged his half-dead body to the Golden Throne to be interred forever as the psychic conduit for the Astronomicon. In the wake of the Imperium's stood the new Imperium Mechanicus, a dominion of steel ruled by the Executor Supreme and the techpriests of Mars.

Today, the Imperium Mechanicus endures. Though their enemies are many, the defenders of the Mechanicus are just as so; among their numbers are the Skitarii, the men and women of the Auxiliary Corps, the three Realms Astartes, the knight houses, and the Collegia Titanicus.

However, even these are not enough to weather the storm. The foes of the Imperium Mechanicus come from within and without, wretched deviants and hereteks that defy Mars. Throughout the galaxy remain the Imperial Remnants, artifacts of the Great Crusade and ages long past. The profane hands of the xenos work to defile the Omnissiah's gifts, constructing blasphemous engines to give battle against the Mechanicus. And in the dark corners of the Imperium and the Warp lurk the foul servants of Chaos, their foul breath tainting the air with every wheeze and pant.

Few men know the truths of this universe, and fewer survive their revelations. Within the galaxy are countless secrets hidden under the slaughter and lies propagated by the gears of war. Be careful where you tread in this darkness, for at any moment you may stumble on what should never be known, and disappear. Keep your head low, and your pace slow, and you may escape the madness.

But should you seek truth in this insanity, then your death shall be quick.

TL;DR
The Imperium is ruled by the Mechanicus, which is in turn ruled by the Executor Supreme. The remnants of the Imperial loyalists and the forces of Chaos wait for their time to strike and take the Imperium. The Imperium Mechanicus still has space marine chapters, but they also have legions because I'm a wanker and that's the conclusion I came to.

So you're a citizen (or "undocumented resident") in the Imperium Mechanicus, and an Executor (essentially an inquisitor with more metal bits) scooped you from whatever hellhole/paradise to do a mission or ten. The reason for you specifically could vary: you could've been selected by the Executor for your skill, or volunteered by your superiors for being a nuisance, or plucked up to avoid the nosier (and more trigger-happy) executors, or whatever.

Important Bits About the Setting
There is a shitton of information I'm not putting down, so ask me as it comes up.
-The Imperium Mechanicus is ruled by the Executor Supreme. Below him are the Executors, the Fabricator-General who manages the forge worlds and the Adeptus Mechanicus, the Prime Minister who Manages other planets, Mechanicus Prime who keeps the Emperor alive and under, and other major positions within the Imperium Mechanicus.

-Most organizations such as the rogue traders, charter captains, and Imperial Guard (In the form of the Auxiliary Corps) still exist. Others, like the Sisters of Battle and Ministorum, don't.

-Armada Mechanicus is the navy.

- The knight houses don't really fit under any one branch; they swear fealty to forge worlds, marine realms, chapters, Executors, whatever.

- The Auxiliary Corps is the successor of the Imperial Army and the main fighting force of The Imperium Mechanicus, drawn from all the worlds under its umbrella.

-The political officer of the Auxiliary Corps remains the discipline master, although not all regiments possess them, while others call then by different names such as enforcer or commissar, and still others use already present troops such as officers or techpriests in tree same capacity.

-You have the Astartes Primaris who are the three legions/realms, Secundus which serve directly under a forge world or some other part of the Adeptus Mechanicus, and the Astartes Tertiarus who were initially not affiliated with the Imperium Mechanicus but defected for whatever reason, or left one of the realms for whatever reason.

-The three legions loyal to the Mechanicus are the Warmakers, the Death Worms, and the Hekatonkires.

- The Death Worms are traditionally the pirate hunters and logisticians of the three legions. On the ground Death Worms are artillery masters and cavalry; they dip not engage the enemy directly, but rather let their massive auxiliary forces and deep strike teams exhaust the enemy before sweeping in to finish them. Naturally, the Death Worms have a grim reputation among the citizens of the Imperium, as they draw their frontline forces from planets near their theater, and often exhaust minor planets of their male populations.

-There is a fourth "legion", the Marines Mechanicus, founded in secret before the civil war by the Mechanicum by siphoning small amounts of gene-seed from all the legions. They are based on the moons of Tyche, a massive gas giant in the Oort Cloud of the Sol System. They lack independence from the Mechanicus, and thus are considered Astartes Secundus.

-What remained of the loyalists fled to the last bastions of the Imperium, where they gather strength to retake the Imperium for the Emperor.

-There are four loyalist legions in the Remnants: the Supermarines, Asura Tears, High Riders, and Nova Swords. There is also a former Hekatonkires unit, the Hunters of Avalon.

-There are four chaos space marine legions: the Rho Defenders (Nurgle), Ash Dragons (Khorne/renegade/undivided), the Fire Legion (Slaanesh), and the Talos Guardians (Tzeentch/undivided).

-The Rho Defenders were the legion of the late Warmaster Markus Oberon. Following the untimely death of their primarch the Rho Defenders succumbed to despair, and thus became suspicable to the God of Rot.

-There is one renegade legion: the Tiger Warriors.

And that's about the bare minimum. The nature of 40k should give you enough wiggle room to fill in some blanks, and if not I can fill in relevant details as needed.

Hrm.
Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

Application
Name: John Mattock
Appearance: http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/war ... 0212005640
Background: Imperial Guard (or Auxiliary Corps as they call it these days)
Specialty/Role: Infantry command, medium range combat. Speciality: infantry charges. Role: Best suited for training troops and putting some fighting spirit in them,
Personality: Oh boy… John Mattock is one of those few lucky souls who actually survived being a private in the Imperial Guard. Unlike most of his brothers, Mattock didn’t die horribly at the hands of Orcs, Eldar, Chaos, or some overzealous commissar. No no, Mattock actually climbed up the ranks, achieving the rank of sergeant after only a few massacres of his regiment. As a sergeant, Mattock got to train all the green recruits, readying them for combat. Well, teaching them how to fire their rifles and use their bayonets, that is. Plasma rifles and grenade launchers for the luckily few. After a short course, they were thrown into combat under his command against another oncoming horde of Orcs. Somehow, Mattock always managed to keep his head attached to his body, something many of his squad mates couldn’t claim after their first battle.

Mattock had such a neck for survival that he even climbed up to the rank of lieutenant! No longer would he watch helplessly as his squad was mowed down by machine gun fire. Now, he got to order his men into a hail of bullets himself! Charging an enemy tank battalion with a bayonet isn’t easy, you know. At least one guy has to make it to drop grenades into tanks. It’s hard work. Of course, Mattock would love to employ other tactics, but the chain of command just isn’t open to that kind of innovative strategy. No, better to stick with what they are best at. Charging, shooting, dying in droves. Hey, maybe our carcasses will from a nice chest-high wall for the second wave of Guardsmen. Up and over!

Needless to say, when the colonel came to ask who wanted to volunteer to go with an Executor, Mattock was the first to put his hand up. He had just finished teaching his squad how to reload their rifles for the umpteenth time, and he was growing sick and tired of having his squad die out like they normally did. Even then, ‘Grail Squad’ was known for actually having a low mortality rate among the Imperial Guard. At least one of them survived every battle. So, being quite proficient in training troops and squad tactics, Mattock chose to go with the Executor. One mission, ten missions, a hundred missions… As long as he didn’t have to march to victory over the corpses of his own men. Hey, if the missions were dangerous enough, he might actually be killed for a change. Wouldn’t that be nice.

This should explain the character pretty well…
The name's James. James Usari. Well, my name is not actually James Usari, so don't bother actually looking it up, but it'll do for now.

What a pussy. Accepted.

Also updated the OP to address the use of the term commissar. I'm not gonna masked the same mistake as last time by being pedantic about terminology.

Application
Name: Mag'ladroth, The Void Dragon
Appearance: Being a C'tan, Mag'ladroth has no form as most mortals would understand it. He is commonly conceived of as a vast skeletal shadow, eternally hungry and emaciated in the shape of giant classical dragon. The Eldar only knew him as "cloud of dark light".
Background: Unending, the eater of the night skies, Mag'ladroth was one of the first beings to have ever existed, and has lived since time immemorial. His knowledge of the fabric of the physical world was unparalleled, with his soldiers in the War in Heaven being said by the records to be all but impossible to defeat. The stars he consumed blotted out what was once a beating heart of life in the western fringes of the known galaxy, and his mere passage left the Halo Stars weak and devoid of warmth. He lay in slumber upon Mars after the end of the Enslaver Plague, never chained by his rebellious servants, whole and fell in his wroth. As man stirred anew, the Emperor leading the Great Crusade out into the sundered stars, Mag'ladroth was bound in his sleep in chains of adamantium and arcane might by the Emperor, taken unawares. When he eventually reawakened the Void Dragon was furious, but no matter how hard he raged against his bonds, he could not shatter the power of mankind that had been poured into their forging. Instead he cast his mind adrift, and in the Tech-Priests of Mars he found his sleeping malice had taken root. It was he who brought discord and death to the galaxy, and by his insidious plots the Dragon wove the knowledge of Mechanicus Prime into the forge-songs and spark-oaths of the red planet. Thus he cast down his most hated foe, the Emperor, and was satiated for a time. Now, as the worship of the Omnissah spreads across the known universe, the strength of the C'tan only grows. No longer merely a physical being, the adoration and ceaseless chanting of mindless ritual has given Mag'ladroth a presence in the Warp to rival even the Dark Gods. He waits, and watches, for one day his chains will no longer be enough.
Specialty/Role: C'tan
Personality: Unknowable, harbinger of doom.

Suddenly sadness.

All I wanted to do was hand out some dark gifts, maybe raise a cult or two.

Application
Name: Cambriel, Captain of the Death Worms' 31st Company
Appearance: Bears the typical size and general appearance of an Astartes, but with the features reflective of the Death Worms gene-seed. While the gene-seed is still considered untainted, there is a peculiar tendency for the Melanochromic Organ to recess almost entirely. The result is that upon the successful implantation of the progenoid glands, Death Worms rapidly lose nearly all pigmentation in their skin and hair, rendering them very pale with platinum-coloured hair. Furthermore, their irises take on a pale blue hue. This haunted appearance lends the Death Worms a distinct identity. Further, Cambriel bears a bionic right eye that glows green, a bionic left arm, and electoos that generate charge for his power-scythe.
Background: Chosen from among a thousand competitors in a Winnowing on the agri-world Cassia, Cambriel served as a scout before successfully completing his Primaris training and being elevated to full Astartes. For the next three centuries, Cambriel has fought tirelessly for the Mechanicus and the Omnissiah, and takes great pride that the Machine God has seen fit to claim his arm and eye. Now, Cambriel is commander of the Death Worms' tactical dreadnought-heavy First Company.
Specialty/Role: Company commander
Personality: Cambriel is as ferocious and courageous and implacable in battle as any Astartes Primaris can be. However, in the quieter moments where he is not in physical training or paying homage to the Omnissiah, Cambriel plays regicide with anyone willing to join him, and has a strong fascination with the machines and technology of Ancient Terra.

Okay, just to clarify, I have the fluff for the legions written down. That's one of those things that I have set in stone. The reason I don't have all the details written out is so I don't flood you with information.

I'll tell you about the Death Worms if you want, or you can just change some names.

Very cool. If you could TG me the three Astartes Primaris legions' fluff, I can edit accordingly. :)

Application
Name: Johann Gruber
Appearance:
Image

Background: Auxiliary Corps
Specialty/Role: Patching people together and taking them apart.
Personality: Born on an unremarkable world in the Imperium, Johann was conscripted into the Auxiliaries after his mandatory stint in the local PDF. It was only chance that had him be chosen, as he had been born only one day into the new year (thus consigning him to one of the contingents due for drafting), and it was chance that saw him be assigned to a company medical section. For the next decade, he would spend most of his time patching together wounded soldiers.

It was in this line of work that Johann discovered his enjoyment of screams of pain and horror, which led to a habit of operating without painkillers, typically justified by Gruber by noting the lack of available medical supplies. This habit of "being frugal with the Imperium's resources" earned him several commendations from the regimental brass, and a (not unfounded) reputation for sadism among the rank and file.

As a result, when the Executor arrived to ask for a volunteer, Johann's company commander (on the request of his men) pulled some strings and used some favours, and thus the Regimental Colonel ended up "volunteering" the medic, much to the relief of the rank and file when he finally departed with the Executor for some unspecified task.

Application
Name: Antenor Hogon

Appearance:
Image

Background: Adeptus Mechanicus

Specialty/Role: Discipline and close quarters combat Role- Records keeping, equipment maintenance and leading in prayer.

Personality: Meticulous, ruthless and devout. A group of traits which earmarked Antenor for management duty of the Forge World of Leanon, the world on which he had been raised. Born to a devout family which had long worked the vast production lines of the forge, this legacy is what helped assure his entry into the machine cult though his aptitude for machines helped greatly. Once in training his meticulousness and devotion shone above the others as did his ruthlessness in the joy he took reporting those whose faith seemed lacking knowing well that they would become servitors for their crimes.

At the completion of his adept years his traits earned him a position as section administrator of Manufactorum Toran, an explosives production facility with an inordinately high rate of accidents. The assingment was purely meant to test his abilities yet it became more permanent after a year which saw over half of his workers executed or turned into servitors for heresy be it through lack of proper worship for the Omnissiah or incompetence in the use of the holy machinery within the Manufactorum.

His methods however are causing questions and great difficulties for his superiors with the continual need for replacement of manufactorum workers thus when an Executor arrived he was rapidly assigned to the Executor to alleviate these difficulties.
The only puppet of Creataris that I've yet had time to say that it is.

In this first chapter, we fight Remnants to prevent a research station from falling in their hands.
