The year is 1939. A young man named Adolf Hitler was accepted into the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts in 1907 and eventually became a Professor in 1913. As he was a Professor, he was never drafted into the German/Austrian Army when World War I broke out. He never became mentally ill as a result of poisonous gasses. However, he was bitter over the defeat of the Germans and Austro-Hungarians still. In 1924, he ran for Chancellor of Austria under the Nazi Party. However, as he was not biased against Jews, his RL anti-Semitism never became part of the Party. Instead, he supported Anschluss and anti-Communism. He won the election, and began pushing for a unification with Germany. In 1927, however, he annexed Czechoslovakia and Hungary, angering the West. Hitler had men in Switzerland, so when the Great Depression occured, he overthrew the government and seized all foreign assets in Switzerland, stabilizing the Austrian economy. At first, the Weimar Republic wanted nothing to do with him. However, increasing Nazi activity forced and the threatening of a coup forced the ailing Hindenburg to appoint Rudolf Heß as Chancellor of Germany in 1932. Heß, however, was essentially an Austrian puppet. When Hindenburg died in 1934, Heß took over completely and agreed to talks. In 1935, Germany and Austria (+Czechoslovakia and Hungary) were united as the Nazi Third Reich of Greater Germany and Austria, aka the Third Reich. In 1936, Chancellor Hitler shocked the world by inviting former Kaiser Wilhelm II to become Emperor of the Third Reich. Wilhelm accepted, and once again became Kaiser. Hitler appointed Heß as President, and together they ruled as an all-mighty Triumvirate. In 1937, Japan invaded Manchuria. Hitler backed the Nationalist Chinese, aka the Republic of China. Russia backed the Chinese Communists. Hitler and Chiang Kai-Shek devised a secret deal with the Japanese that they would all attack the USSR from the East and West. In 1938, the also anti-Communist Britain began to undergo plans with Hitler to attack the USSR.
