Bears in Your Nation

Postby Verdiga » Fri Nov 27, 2015 11:41 pm

Does your nation have any bears? If so, what species?

There are bears in Verdiga. The most common species of bear in Verdiga is the Kodiak bear, followed by the brown bear. Both species of bears are common in Verdiga, moreso the former.

Bears are routinely rounded up and dispatched to known criminal houses. Oh wait, they're not.

Following recent legislation, all animals from Gallifreyan zoos have been released into the cities. Grizzly Bears can be found rummaging in dustbins throughout the Capitol city. Polar Bears have taken up residence in air conditioned hotels. Pandas can be found crossing roads. Black Bears cannot be seen at night, so watch out.

The Teddy Bear, native to the nation, can be found in the beds of many children.

Costa Fiero is home to the spectacled bear, the only native bear species in South America. It's primary habitat is in the high altitudes of the Andes, although they can be found at lower altitudes and in all types of environments, including dry forests, cloud forests and grassy plains. It is listed as a protected species and populations can be found inside or close to national parks.

There are many bears in Manateesia, the most common being polar bears.
These bears are used in cases of crimes instead of dogs, they are plated in armor and assist in taking down criminal and terrorist organizations.

Pfft, never understood why Russians are the ones who get shown as having bears in the army and such.

If people took the time to read a bit of history from time to time they would know exactly what my flag is about (yes, that's a legit bear, it's Corporal Wojtek, who served in the Polish Army in WWII and fought all over Africa and Italy, including the famous Battle of Monte Cassino, as part of an artillery crew. He also liked smoking cigarettes and enjoyed drinking alcohol, as well as wrestling his comrades. After the war he wound up in a British zoo, which I find depressing. That's a fate for feeble and gentle bears, not war heroes.

But enough of my rambling, obviously in Polska we have bear. Brown bears, to be more precise. Unlike the country in real life, we have a very healthy and growing population of bears. There is never a shortage on bears here.

The Dominion does not have any kind of native bear species, but it has an imported bear species classified as the Ursadon.
All major imperial zoos breed and tame a great number of them, so that many zoo visitors can see such an imported bear species.
They are natives of snowy and icy planets of Braxis and Kaldir, which makes them suitable in temperature below 10 degrees.

Magna Unitatem is home to our own unique species of bear. They are called BEARLORDS, and they range in size from being larger than most one-story homes to the height of a clock tower. Their size, coupled with their extreme aggression and physical strength, made life for early Unitatens difficult. Thankfully, with our advanced technology, the population of BEARLORDS is safely under control.

Brown bears are the most common species of bears in Bravura Colonia. Sure, there are other species of bears like black bears and Bravuren Bears [a crossbreed of a black bear and a brown bear], but brown bears are the most common species. The national animal of Bravura Colonia is the Bear, more specifically, the Bravuren Bear.

The native Moulinian Brown Bear is the most common bear in Her Majesty's territory. Any other bear has either escaped from a zoo or was smuggled in by someone, and therefore must be killed to prevent the destruction of our ecosystem. The Moulinain Brown Bear is rather small, never growing much larger than a large dog. They are still a force to be reckoned with, however, as they pack bite strength almost equal to a Grizzly.

Sure, various Terran ursines have been introduced on many Imperial worlds.

There are also a number of extraterrestrial creatures commonly known as "bears" in the Imperium. Although, scientifically speaking, these creatures are not true bears, or even remotely related to genus Ursa, which refers strictly to the Terran fauna, the said lifeforms do indeed morphologically resemble Terran bears and fill largely the same ecological niches in their native environments. Which is yet another example of convergent evolution, demonstrating that life even on different planets thousands of light-years apart will evolve similarly in response to similar environments.

Some of these alien bears resemble their Terran namesakes only vaguely, being called so simply for having a roughly similar body plan and behaviour. Others have evolved to be so similar to Terran bears as to be capable of interbreeding with them. Quite a few xenozoologists argue that the statistical likelihood of species on two different worlds evolving so similarly as to be genetically compatible enough to produce offspring is next to impossible, suggesting the possibility of intelligent design.

Considering how Sidh bioengineers are fully capable of engineering sophisticated multi-cellular lifeforms themselves, and Sidh terraformers have introduced and modified species on numerous worlds, the theory of intelligent design does not sound ludicrous at all to modern scientists, lacking the religious connotations it used to have centuries ago. As demonstrated by Sidh own scientific achievements, it is entirely possible that an even more advanced civilization once seeded worlds around the galaxy with similar lifeforms, and discoveries pertaining to Artifact (i.e., ancient alien) technology do indeed suggest that such a civilization or civilizations have existed in the past. The example of bears was in fact among evidence cited in favour of this theory.
Freedom doesn't mean being able to do as one please, but rather not to do as one doesn't please.

A fool sees religion as the truth. A smart man sees religion as a lie. A ruler sees religion as a useful tool.

The more God in one's mouth, the less in one's heart.

No bears are native to Fatatatutti. There may be a few in captivity, though keeping animals in captivity is frowned upon.

Even Teddy bears are uncommon. Children prefer to sleep with stuffed toys such as pineapples or fish. (The phrase "sleeps with the fishes" has an entirely different connotation in Fatatatutti.)
