The men have come this distance in search of fabled settlements in the Pyrenees. The great plague has already ravaged their home, and it is safe to say that these twelve men were the only ones left in their town- for all they knew, they could've been the only men left in France.They continue to plod on, but suddenly the man at the front stops and surveys the horizon. The terrain has been getting steeper in this phase of their journey- it is only natural that he should be able to make out mountains, the great snowcapped Pyrenees, in the far distance. "Mountains!", he cries in his native Occitan ,"I see mountains!". Many are not sure if these are the Pyrenees, but they do not bother to ask. They have traveled so far that these ought to be, lest there be no hope for them...
Welcome to the world of Dark Europe, inspired by the modded EU3 scenario "Dark Continent". This will be an alternate-history nation RP in which a mutated version of the black plague has killed about 95 percent of Europe's population. Other areas of the world are mostly unchanged from our own timeline, however. Because of Europe's emptiness, pioneers from Central Asia, Russia (which was largely spared of Europe's fate) and the Muslim World have come to settle in Europe. Europe's remaining native population of 3-4 million are far-flung, with many fleeing to refugee villages in less affected areas like mountain ranges, the far north and other sparsely-populated places. The death and suffering caused by the plague has finished, but Europe will never be the same. RP as a faction in Europe trying to set up a new civilisation there, or a faction elsewhere trying to make its place in a world without Europe.

I'll probably treat certain nations differently to IRL in this RP. Muslim settler states will have less knowledge of European terrain than natives, but will often have higher population growth than natives if they can attract foreign migration. the Muslim world is in a bit of a decline as it was in OTL, with the far east having the most technological and social innovation in the world more or less. Expect many technologies to develop either there or in Europe once countries get advanced enough there. Colonisation of the Americas is unlikely unless you can justify why any non-European country would be sailing to the Americas in the first place. Also, Europe's rural population are more or less as organised as smallpox-devastated North American natives in IRL, so unless you can unite them against foreign invaders they're pretty fucked.
