Loc Druedanann
Klamath Mountains

Loc Druedanann Castle, built up over generations from a modest keep into an imposing fortress tucked away within the Klamath Mountains of North-Western California in what the ancient era referred to as Del Norte County, or, what was once California in the ancient days before The Fall. Loc Druedanann got its name from the Lake over which the Fortress sits as a sits on the side of one of the spines sprouting from the Mountain ridges that form deep valleys. Chosen not only for its remoteness but also its defensible position. For the Fortress needed relatively few to garrison it effectively. Shrouded by dense forests the ruins of the past still could be found here and there. A few dozen Leagues to the West by the Great Western Sea (Pacific Ocean) the ruins of a city (formerly Crescent City) could be seen poking out above the waves. The buildings long since covered in vines, collapsed, eroded, buried, or destroyed by centuries of neglect. Remnants of a forlorn time. Now only home to a small fishing enclave to the South sporting a few dozen folk of Native stock eeking out a modest living.

But far closer to the castle, the panting of breaths by lungs pulling in air in great gasps could be heard along with the rhythmic drum of bare feet on dirt. Followed by the drumming of hooves and the shouts of an older man like a shepherd herding his flock of sheep.

"Faster Jaames, you're falling behind! Kraig watch your pace you still have a mile to go. Traveling with speed without a horse is a game of athletic brains as well as stamina! Ash...good get that breathing steady!"

The trio of youth raced through the foliage making a B-line back to the Fortress. The middle aged man on the horse followed with his white hair tied back in a knot. They were all armed and armored to some degree. But the rules of this exercise called for at least 50 pounds of weight be burdened. The group had spent four days trekking the wilderness. This was dubbed an "Outing" by the young Hunters in training. Where older Hunters would take them out to study native fauna and animals, to learn survival techniques and skills, and most of all build strength and stamina.

"Come on! If I was a Demi-Wolf I'd have run you down a day ago! Use your in born strength. Bipeds have greater stamina than quadrupeds! There you go Kraig! Jaames keep steady you're past the hard part!"

The jingling of mail and swords formed a keen music as the youth, barefoot for this last day, raced along. All of them had run barefoot many times in training to teach them to value footwear and to take care of their feet and boots. The souls of their feet long since callused over and thick from the rigorous training regimen of the Order.

The urging and panting carried on for another mile till they passed through the Gates of the Fortress and into the hooting, hollering, and cheering Hunters that were going about their business. Loc Druedanann was hardly ever able to see all or even half of the order at any given time. The Order itself never being particularly numerous for starters. As of 788 roughly 404 people were recorded as "Alive" on the muster rolls. But that included retired Hunters who lived at Loc Druedanann or else ware, trainees, and Invalids wounded but still alive. In reality the full muster of members of Hunter/Huntress status and above who were still active numbered only 266.

As the three youths were dismissed and entered the central keep to wash up and rest the older Hunter dismounted his stead. Walking calmly he was approached by an older looking man that seemed still fit enough to fight despite the advanced age showing on his face. This was evident by the sword strapped to his hip.

The middle aged Hunter nodded and spoke, "Casius."

"Aran", the short version of his name, "How are the rookies? Good Outing?"

Arandyn shrugged before he replied, "Jaames seemed to have trouble for the last six miles but made it. Might be his lungs again. Ever since that bout of Pneumonia his stamina has been suffering. The other two looked in good shape."

"Hawkarrow feared as much from the lad. Took heavy doses of Lungsense and Ice-Wallow to cleanse the boys body of that illness. I have Lothair and Benihold looking into improving the heating in the boys rooms by next Winter." The old Hunter crossed his arms as he finished with something obvious on his mind.

"What is it Cas?" asked Arandyn with narrowed eyes.

"Assignment came in today. Contractual work. Emperor of Vyrengaard no less. Needs some of us to kill something the letter didn't specify. Anyways I figured you'd want to go up North, take Syra with you. Gods know she needs more field training."

Arandyn signed as he gave his reply, "Whats His Imperial Majesty paying?"

"Offered 50 Silver Florins up front. 20 gold Crowns once the job is done. Food and housing will be paid for by His Highness."

"Very well, we leave tomorrow." Arandyn put a hand on the older Hunter's shoulder before parting and heading into the Fortress.

The Emperor of Vyrengaard was a powerful figure, to call on the Order meant he needed discretion in whatever he was dealing with, people who won't talk or take bribes easily. This intrigued Arandyn. The Order was a regular for receiving work from Nobles and the like, their special skills in hunting the more monstrous beasts that plague civilization made them an obvious choice for the right price, and the fact that the Order kept tight lips in regards to assignments and contracts made them that much more enticing to hire.

Vyrengaard
Imperial Palace

Vyrengaard was an Empire and a City. The latter, the city, straddled a river and encircled a lake. The largest city West of the Great Desert (former Mid-West) to the East and a symbol of Imperial power. The Empire, and the current Emperor, marked its existence by expansion and protection. As a result foreigners often had mixed opinions. Positive opinions typically revolved around the Empire and Emperor being a patron of the arts and commerce. The negative regarding the Empire's aggressive attitude to foreign policy and brutal crushing of rebellious sentiments.

Within the bowels of the fortress palace the Emperor looked at a map of the Western coast with the eye of a bird of prey. He eyed the lands belonging to the County of Eugen (former Eugene, Oregon). Count Georg II of Eugen ruled a small stretch of land around the walled town he dominated. Wilderness encroached on all sides and to the North was the Free City of Salem which was home to the Order of Magi. Salem was deemed neutral territory. But to the North and West lay Imperial lands ruled by the Emperor's subject peerage. The furthest Southerly stretch of his Imperial Dominion. Georg II was aging, at 73, and had diplomatically resisted bending the knee to Vyrengaard for years. Being to small to be regarded as a major player in regional politics outside of the former Oregon territories. But now times had changed, and having completed a five year purge of the Imperial nobility the Emperor sought to push his borders further South.

Across from the Emperor stood Field Marshal Affrim vy Lopech. Vy Lopech was officially a Count in the Imperial Peerage and ruled over Lopech Island (former Lopez Island). Slightly younger than the Emperor but with graying hair and greater wrinkles Affrim could be arguably seen as older. Yet, the commander of the Imperial Army still stood resolute like a pillar of granite.

"Your Grace. Eugen would only require perhaps a thousand men to crush. I recommend just mobilizing levies from our Southern fiefs and crushing Georg immediately."

"No, Affrim, My forebears and I did not build this Empire, this regime, on sending others to do our dirty work; at least, not every time. We will send the Albion Division in force with supporting levies from our Southern fiefs. I suspect Georg will attempt to hide behind his walls when we come knocking. I want troops that are dependable to invest in a possible siege.

The Albion Division was headquartered in Vyrengaard itself within the Imperial Barracks. Regarded as crack heavy infantry the Albionites had been the vanguard of many a siege.

"What of the Hunters you are contracting?" spoke up Affrim.

"There is a coven of Vampires in Vyrengaard I want destroyed. I thought about sending in my Army but I want to be sure. I was sure the last time those bloodsuckers were eradicated they cropped up again several years later within our very capitol. Twice corpses have been fished out of the lake by the constabulary with fang marks on their neck. I want a...specialists touch."

Affrim smirked on that last sentence.

Somewhere in the wilderness (once south-west Oregon)

Like great islands jutting fourth from a dark green sea, the mountains stood tall and defiant to both gravity and vegetation as they reached far into the pale blue sky above the earth. The only inhabitants of these high peaks were the birds who soared high on the air currents at such heights, safe from the low creatures who had to suffer as the avians flew so freely. But as grand as the view of a bird had to be of this wondrous place, it was likely nothing but normal to them as they had seen it all their lives.

Those who had to make the dangerous ascent to the mountain trials were so use to seeing the majesty of these great earthen piles that many regarded them as nothing more than blockages on their journeys. But a select few saw them not as simple landmarks on a map or craggy edifices to block the path to the other side, for instead they saw them as opportunities. These few who were in touch with nature from the dirt under their bare feet to the mountains towering above them, could easily become lost not in a normal sense but in a spiritual way among this glorious landscape.

Andre was one of these lucky souls who saw more in this place than the eye could ever hope to show, more than any story could tell, and more than his memory could ever hope to contain. He was an adult in many societies but inside he was still a child of mother nature, who feed him the bounty of her world spanning garden and whispered promises with every breeze that flowed around him. This was what he felt was right in his mind and it was what he knew in his heart as he trekked the trails at the foot of this mountain range.

The sun was partially tucked away beneath a quilt of sporadic white clouds that bore the brunt of the heat so that the earth would receive a weak but welcome warmth as the day went on.With the scenery, the weather, and the snack of berries he had found only a few minutes ago still bittering his tongue with their wild but satisfying flavor, the day was turning out to be just as good if not better than any that he had experienced since leaving the commune almost two years ago.

For a moment he was saddened by the thought of his home in the commune and of the people he had left behind, so different from the people who lived out here. But he remembered how they all had wished him well in his travels along with how much he had seen and learned in these two years walking the roads as a happy vagabond amongst the less cheery and less fortunate. He had helped whoever had asked for it and had been rewarded in kind by Father Karma and Mother Gaia as well as the like hearted and free spirited in this world as well.

"By my beard I'll say this place is far out!" he said to himself as he looked around the trail, taking in the view of the valley below him and the mountains still so tall above him.

He noticed that with each passing moment the colors became more vibrant and bright as he starred longer at the trees and bushes ahead of him.The sun seemed to cast an all encompassing rainbow of light around the clouds as they passed by, and it shined down upon the pond at the base of the valley below him causing the surface to sparkle like dimonds floating atop the water. It was this that made him stop for a moment and question why everything from his sight to his already happy attitude was becoming more intense and otherworldly, with only one reason suspected.

"Tha wild berries defiantly have me a fly'n!" He chuckled as he readjusted his glasses and carried on with his trek with everything from his bare feet to his stubby fingers tingling with joy and then some.

Zephyr Alron
Vyrengaard Outskirts, Alron Farms
Post-Fall 789

The sun finally rose over the eastern mountains, known as the gateway to the Great Desert by some, it began to paint the Alron family farm with stunningly bright orange light. Thought it had just risen the five men that made up the Alron family had been up for at least an hour now, preferring to get most of the heavy labor out of the way before the sun heated up the farmlands. Zephyr had just finished loading a cart with sacks of ground flour with the help of one of his brothers, Thyral. The two of them worked in concert, Thyral chucking bags up to Zephyr, who stacked them neatly on the back of the wooden cart, which creaked with every movement.

"So your really going to do it today?" asked Thyral.

"I don't see why not, I'm old enough, and you youngins can help take care of the farm now," grunted Zephyr, catching another bag.

"But what will father think" said Thyral again.

He was cut off by Zephyr senior, "What will I think about what?" he interrupted, walking out from inside the mill.

"I'm joining the Imperial Army. You can't stop me this time!" shouted the junior Zephyr, standing up on the cart.

The boys father simply, leaned up against the cart and stared long and hard at his eldest son. From one of his pockets he produced a small pipe, already filled to the brim with tobacco. With a quick flash, the match he held in his hand ignited the dried leaves, and formed an orange glow within the pipe. Every puff illuminated his face in the pale dawn hour, this went on for a few minutes before he spoke up again.

"Fine. You want to get yourself killed go do it. But don't come crawling back here after they dump you. Thyral," he said, pointing towards the younger child, "you go with your brother into the city and bring my cart back, give half of the money you earn to your brother and bring the rest back here".

One hour later....

A well trodden dirt road, with cart ruts winded across the landscape, leading from the Alron farms directly into the city of Vyrengaard. Zephyr and Thyral both looked around at the surrounding view. It was something they both had come to enjoy. Though they had been on this exact route dozens of times before, it was far and few between, the times they got to leave the farm. But what was the most exciting part was seeing the Imperial city, its splendor, large buildings, and varied people in the market place was the stuff young boys had always dreamed of getting lost in.

Once in the market place, Zephyr split off from his younger brother, since he had done the routine a number of times and wouldn't be a bother. Finally he found his way to an office somewhere in the middle of town that read 'Imperial Army' and from the looks of it, it was a recruiting station. Entering the building, he looked around the symbols that represented the Empire were emblazoned on the wall in the form of tapestries. In the center of the room was a man clad in chain mail armor, age growing on his face, looking down at a multitude of papers strewn about on his desk. Zephyr boldly walked up to the desk and stood tall and proud.

"Sir, My name is Zephyr Alron, I have come to enlist in the Imperial Army!" he announced, with much enthusiasm and confidence in his voice.

Vyrengaard City
Empire of Vyrengaard
Recruitment Office

The man for a solid ten seconds remained silent as he scribbled a note on a piece of paper and pulling on a golden chain he clicked open a small time piece. Tucking it away he finally looked up at Zephyr with sincere disinterest. "Want to take up the Black boy? Tis' not for the feint of heart or for those of dubious loyalty."

The aging man did not wait for Zephyr's reply as he hefted up a heavy ledger bound in rough brown leather. Flicking through some pages he turned it around so that it read correctly for Zephyr and upside down for the man. "Can you read and write boy?" The man dipped a goose quill in the inkwell set into his desk and offered it to Zephyr. It was a serious question. It's been over 700 years since a universal education system graced the lands these varied people called home. Few could read and write fluently with many just having a rudimentary grasp of the written word.

Again the man did not wait for an answer as he continued, "If, and often is that you cannot read nor write, writing your name in the ledger means that you agree to a minimum of 10 years of service under the Imperial Banner. Full filling the 10 years will grant you basic compensation for service. Signing on for longer duration's naturally mean greater benefits once you leave the Emperor's service. I myself have served 27 years before that banner hanging up on the wall and got a nice plot of land with a sizable pension lined up for me. If you sign, you will report to the Imperial Barracks with a slip of paper which will be given to the Quartermaster for record keeping. Then you will begin training at once and possibly assigned to a unit depending on your skill or if you hold some specialized skill.

The man leaned back in his chair as he waited for Zephyr to decide the future 10 years of his life and possibly more.

Loc Druedanann

In the central courtyard, illuminated by torchlight, Arandyn was finishing up readying his horse for the days ride tomorrow. Hearing the faint footsteps and perhaps recognizing some manner of their footing he spoke up with a fatherly tone, "You should be in bed Syra. It's a quarter before the eleventh hour. Everyone else went to bed over an hour ago once the evening feast was over. Or did Casius keep you up with stories again?"

"One day I'm going to wonder how you keep doing that?" came a feminine voice. Sweet like honey, but speaking of a rebellious tone. The young girl feigned amicable disposition to the encounter, but in reality she bore the soft smile of one speaking to an old friend long considered family. Flesh and blood didn't always have to be by birth.

"You treat the leather of your boots with a polish that smells of lavender." Arandyn smiled still turned away and the young lady gave a sarcastic scowl.

"So what are we hunting? Is it just us?" came the girls voice as she leaned back against a wooden support.

"Don't know. Given the area it's probably Vampires, Ghouls, Possibly a Necro though can you guess why that would be unusual?"

The girl rolled her eyes and expressed a yawn before starting her reply, "Because Necro's being infected corpses that infect other corpses only therefore target fresh corpses. It would be highly unlikely that a city full of people wouldn't notice one wandering about."

"Very good. Listening to the Elders I see." Arandyn glanced back with a smile.

"Hey, I'm not completely all knowing." Syra chuckled while the older Hunter grinned as he stepped away from the horse. Giving it a fresh pat on the head along with a handful of oats. Syra made to leave but stopped after a few paces, "Are we going alone?"

"Does it matter?" came Arandyn's reply as he too made to turn in for the night. But then he too stopped and looked at Syra, "Given the uncertainty none of the Elders would let us out of here without at least six Hunters as back up. Regardless how many soldiers and constables His Imperial Majesty will allow us to commandeer. Come on."

Those last two words ended with Arandyn putting an arm around Syra and they both walked back into the central keep. They would then split with Syra heading to her bed in rooms full of other young Hunters in training. Arandyn would move to a bed surrounded by other more experienced members of the Order. Only the night time watch which is chosen by ballot would remain awake.

Hawken's Hideout,
Frontiers of Northern Oregon

The sun rose among the trees and the unyielding wilds of the Frontiers of Northern Oregon. This was where the Empire's many stories of adventure and treasure had came from. Many tales of lost treasure found, great resources, and new lives have also been coupled by the dangers of wild beast, mutants, and bandits. There is an air of equilibrium to the wilds for as many settlements there are in the wilds then there are makeshift forts and cave hideouts where bandits dwell.

In one makeshift wooden fort that had a cave stood one of the bandit chiefs who had came back from a raid and has taken goods, weapons, and tools that wouldn't be useful to any other bandit gang but this bandit had a treasure that wasn't material, but something far more valuable. " Don! Put the goods in the storage and send the tools to the smith. Jacob! Find Cloud, tell her to go check up on the smith to see if we have the new weapons ready!"

Hawken was pointed the bandits to get the work, he was a former Imperial sergeant and the bandits were deserters from them after they decided that the Empire wasn't good enough to get their needs for profit. They started their dissertation long ago when they attacked a caravan that had a treasure that no one had thought would be of some use. Cloud was a young girl, no more in her mid-twenties which she wanted to make more coin then trying to fight for other houses. She did this as an act of rebellion but even though they had to take banditry in order to survive in the wilds, they at least didn't do things such as slavery, at least not yet.

She was notified by the bandits who started to put the tools in the cave where the sound of metal hitting metal and smoke came from some of the dug out holes that were made by a larger creature that many of the bandits start giving angry looks when a large shadow that came out to show a giant mutant that was batlike and feral looking. He crawled towards the pile of tools that were from farmers and other frontier peasants that he took one and started to bring a small hammer to test the steel to see just how much work he had to do.

He started to hear the steel to see if it was a good quality tool or not till Cloud had spoke," AI, sorry to interrupt you, I know your trying to do this so you can get back to work and then to sleep but Hawken wanted to know if the spare weapons are done." The mutant's long ears flicker in the shadows. As he pokes his head from the cave but the sunlight blind is already sensitive eyes. He then retreated back in the shadow of the cave," weapons are ready. I question why make spares? Number of weapons is enough to last for three gangs. AI see no good thinking for weapons stockpile."

AI was considered a treasure in the eyes of the bandit leader. While he is a mutant, the only thing that's keeping him from being sold by the bandits was that he a master blacksmith and to Hawken's knowledge, he knew how to make gunpowder. However, it was a secret that he kept close to him and it was because of the mutant that he grew in power with a gang of over 50 bandits. The gang kept the secret as much as they could but many don't like his presence in the fort despite him being the only master blacksmith in the wilds and he was able to make weapons that only the Imperials would seem to make but half of the time.

The other gangs had notice about their master blacksmith but Hawken made sure to keep AI a secret and only say that he was a blacksmith of great strength. This did raise his prestige and some were even talking about becoming part of Hawken's gang in order to get those weapons. However some were envy of the chief's upper hand that his gang can get masterwork steel and bows and they had to salvage theirs by raiding light outposts. This was both good and bad for Hawken since his enemies were choking the goods and attacking those that like him. When AI heard about this from Cloud, he felt sad as he was the reason why Hawken was getting attacked like that.

He asked to speak to Hawken at one night and despite what Hawken said about not letting" mutants rule my men" he came to see AI when he was asleep and while he was startled and almost maw him to death with his long claws, he held back once Hawken surrendered and he catch himself. He listen to what AI had to say and was amazed that he was learning the Imperial language very quickly ever since he was captured by the gang all those months ago. A lot of things he told them about himself and in many ways, he had found some sympathy with the batlike mutant and listen to his advise to gather the allies and make a powerful tribe out of it.

Even though he didn't want to admit it, he like the idea and wanted to run with it. That's why he wanted to make sure that he had enough weapons. Enough for 3 gangs and even more. Still, he felt bad that he had to push the strength of AI and try to bribe the other bandit neighbors with weapons and ensure their allegiance. He knew that they will want to know just who is the blacksmith but he knew that AI would have to move away deeper in the Imperial wilds unless he can keep the secret or the other gangs would be open to the idea of a mutant master smith.

AI only thought of the worst of the event as the other bandits didn't like him and they knew that once he was of no use anymore that they would try to sell him to the Magi or send the Hunters after him. However, Hawken started to think of him as a young member of the gang despite him being older than him by a physical age. AI started to search for a better mountain that Hawken allowed him to live in so that he can smith in peace away from any sort of racism or thoughts of slavery. AI believe that this would be needed and now today was the day that the meeting will work but Hawken didn't tell him about the need of weapons.

" AI?" Cloud asked and notice AI was in deep thought and he twitched his ears as she started to walk in the cave," are you alright? I hope the tools are good to start making the weapons." AI gave her a nod as he put the last tool down," steel is poor craft, meant for cutting dirt. Will take time but you don't have it." He spoke in relation to him moving in the next few days into deeper mountains. " Your doing that this week? I thought that you will be doing that after the meeting that Hawken thought of?" She question but AI didn't say anything as he but the hammer down and spoke," don't believe in other bandits to accept me as smith. This gang doesn't but only Hawken holds them back from sending Hunters at me. I take first measures, already found good mountain home. I will be telling Hawken about it next night. This be good, you have strong weapons and bigger numbers."

While he wasn't wrong about it, she still felt that he was being chased away in order to have a much bigger rule in the area. He didn't mind really and he was used to the " Imperial Hospitality" of being persecuted and nearly hunted down but at least he was able to know that not every human was like that, despite them being bandits. He yawned as she spoke," well, at least you think ahead. I'll let you get some sleep so then you can get the weapons ready and you hopefully can move." AI nodded as he crawled slowly back into the depths of the cave as the sun was going down and he needed to get his sleep cycle back working because he will slow down if he keeps up. Cloud also got on to that and also told Hawken about it.

He took a deep breath for a sigh as he forgot that even though AI has a lot of strength, he was still young in his age. He told Cloud that when he wakes up to start taking it easy on himself and take his time with the weapons. Cloud also said that AI needed to talk to him after the meeting. He said fine but this was more important for all of us. So he went inside his fort center and awaited the other leaders in order to subjugate them by peace and bribing them for the bandits in this area would love to have AI's weapons.

Loc Druedanann Castle
Klamath Mountains

The sun was beginning to fall low, the light breaking through the trees as he stepped through the forest. The branches swayed in the breeze as he silently thanked nature for the relaxing feeling this breeze brought to him, cooling him down through the many layers of armor he wore on a daily basis. He did nothing to silence his movement, not knowing any techniques to do as the sounds of his movement were accentuated with the many sounds of metal on metal, and his weight crushing any foliage he placed his feet on. He currently walked with his shield and his two-handed sword sheathed on his back, the weight always testing his balance as it threatened to pull him down backwards, a game he had become very proficient at to avoid an embarrassing encounter.

While there were many things about these woods that he found he enjoyed he much prefered the open roads, as people were not frequent in the woods and so he was rather bored in his travels in these areas. He set aside these thoughts and focused on where he was going, a large fortress built into the side of the mountain. While he was unable to see it now he knew that more travel in the forest would bring him to its gates.

He stopped for a moment to gather his bearings, making sure he was heading in the right direction. While he knew that he was on the right course to some extend he had learned that double checking and using prudence while navigating was always a better idea than blindly wandering through the forest. As he was reaching into his bag, a small sack that held a light amount of possessions compared to the weight of his armor, and pulling out the map he had purchased from a trader just outside the forest, he heard noises in the distance, bringing his attention away from his map as he scanned the forest for the source of what seemed like a voice.

"Faster Jaames, you're falling behind! Kraig watch your pace you still have a mile to go. Traveling with speed without a horse is a game of athletic brains as well as stamina! Ash...good get that breathing steady!"

As the voice got closer he began to understand what it was saying. While he had no context as to what the words meant he took somewhat of a guess as 3 young men raced through the forest, followed by a man on a horse. Hynias stood motionless as they went by, seemingly too absorbed in the trial to notice him. They left him standing there, and after a few moments of watching their trail he mapped it in his mind, pulling out his map to see if his route matched theirs. After studying a few landmarks and reminding himself of his trail he plotted theirs against his and found, little to his surprise, that they matched enough, and that he would likely meet them at the castle.

This was a good sign, as he was heading to the castle to improve his knowledge in the arts of hunting a portion of the supernatural. He had heard about this fortress through one of the tomes in his mentor’s library, taking almost a year to go through the entire room and read every text he found himself somewhat clouded on exactly what the book had said about this place. He was clear however that he would be able to learn something however, and in a world where knowledge was a powerful as it was he quested to acquire as much of it as he could.

After almost another hour of traveling he saw the great gates, his speed slow as despite his strength and stamina he still had to save his energy for long journeys. He approached the gates with his sword and shield on his back, seeking entrance into the castle. .

Loc Druedanann

As the Sunlight gave way to Moonlight and the inhabitants of the Castle feasted and turned in for the night. As Arandyn and Syra turned in from their talk the sentries would notice a man waiting before the Gates as he approached. A single bell tone sounded about the front gatehouse and the draw bridge lowered to allow access across the ditch and moat.

The gates were thick, reinforced with steel bars, and had a layered lock mechanism. A small dis door built into the gates allowed access for single file persons and was a tight fit. This was deliberately done so that say if someone did manage to get past the door they'd have to come in without ability to brandish weaponry. If an enemy party came through it'd have to be also single file.

The braziers lit just minutes before cast a glow on their surroundings as the small porter door opened on well oiled hinges. A pair of figures in heavy grey cloaks came out. One held a cross bow, loaded with quarrel, with an additional sword on the hip. The other had two swords strapped to his back of slightly different designs but overall roughly same length. Though one was narrower.

A mans voice came from the figure on the left, "It's late traveler, and in such wild lands far from any village or hamlet. You are not one of us that I know. Speak. If you do not seek to harm us then we will not do so unto you."

The heavy hoods of the sentries prevented their faces from being seen. Another careful tactic so that a would be opponent wouldn't know if they were looking right at him or observing their surroundings for other potential threat. Not that they where the only two sentries. The bell ring signified an unexpected arrival and thus all the sentries would not be on alert.

Zephyr Alron
Vyrengaard City, Imperial Army Recruitment Office

Zephyr stood awkwardly in the center of the room before the heavy desk that the other man had sat behind. He watched as the man continued his work before checking the time, which in fact Zephyr had lost track of, he assumed it would be somewhere around ten, maybe eleven in the morning. Opening his mouth, the young boy was about to respond but the aged recruitment officer droned on before giving his potential new soldier a chance to speak up.

As the elder of the two continued to speak a rather enormous book was shoved onto the desk and opened it a page. The next question was rather trivial, Zephyr in fact hadn't met anybody, even those in the city market place who could both read and write, something he desperately wished for however. He took the large quill, readied with ink and looked back towards the recruiter as he continued, without waiting for Zephyr again. By this time, he would simply wait to speak until it was clear it was his turn. The next bit of information was something he actually hadn't put to thought. How long exactly would he serve in the Imperial Army for?

While he was lost in pondering the situation, he looked up and noticed the man appeared to be waiting for his answer.

"Aye sir, I have the heart! I don't know how to read nor write however. Can I still sign up without that knowledge? I--- I think I'll do the 10 years, and I can extend it later yes?" said Zephyr after a few more moments of thought. He made sure to sound confident as well, broadcasting his abilities both through body language and the sound of his voice. The quill made a few quick slashes across the empty spot on the page, as was customary for those without the knowledge of writing when signing a document.

Fortunately, yet unsurprisingly, his approach did not go unnoticed. This was the case in most instances as it was quite difficult to miss a man his size who wore his weight in equipment. While he did not do battle often, the layer of metal and chain that was constantly between him and the dangers out the wilds always held true when tested against what the forces of both nature and man could place in his path, in the case of the latter however, the sight of his height and the broadness of his shoulders paired with the weapons he wielded were enough of a warning to dissuade many from facing him in combat.

"It's late traveler, and in such wild lands far from any village or hamlet. You are not one of us that I know. Speak. If you do not seek to harm us then we will not do so unto you."

But this was no time to violence, and as the doors opened and the hooded guards leveled their weapons at him he took the time to unfasten his gauntlets, hoping the gesture would ease their alertness from his sudden and rather untimely arrival. He took many moments to answer, his eyes watching as the gate continued to function, almost marveling at the design of it. While he had seen gates made to be more beautiful, he had always enjoyed functionality as an art in its own way, and the many features and tactics behind this gate gave him a sense of appreciation towards whoever constructed it. When he finally did bring his attention back to the question of his intents he answered calmly, the light of the braziers dancing off of his olive skin.

"It is said that the Immortal King of the North took a fortress by his lonesome, that he did so in a single night." He looked over the guards with an expression that might be considered uncharacteristic for someone of his size speaking such words, as the way his eyebrows were slightly raised and the way his jaw sat relaxed gave him the air of a scholar, not a warrior. But behind his sword and his shield, under his many pounds of armor that is what he was, a scholar.

"But then again it is also said that he shattered the walls of said fortress with his bare hands, and toppled its citadel with only his raw might, so I've learned not all things read in the tomes of old can be believed." As he spoke he took the time to look down at his belt, fastening his gauntlets one by one to leather and metal band, freeing up his hands for him to stretch and his knuckles to crack.

"It is true that i come to you at a most unsavory hour, and for that i must apologize, but i mean you and the people of this fortress no harm. The many dangers that reside in these wild lands do not share your sense of reason, and as such i was delayed in doing unto them what their instincts commanded them to do to me. But with the light of the sun on my back or not i have reached this castle with the intents of gaining the knowledge held within its walls, and to share what knowledge i have collected to all who will listen. Maybe one would consider it a trade, but i've always prefered to think of it as the currents of the wind, shifting back and forth as nature intends it." He placed his bare hands on the collar of his chest piece, pulling on it and readjusting it to make it more comfortable as he cracked his neck, the many hours spent in the layers of metal leaving him weary.

"If you would allow, i wish refuge from the torrents of this land, somewhere to sleep and food to refill. I have currency should you require it, needing only the basics. I thank you for your decision to withhold fire, as testing the strength of my armor is something that i prefer to do with as little frequency as possible."

Vyrengaard City

Altaeir vy Aynreis, Emperor of Vyrengaard, his list of titles would trail on to note his overlordship throughout the Empire's provincial territories. Altaeir since his ascension to the throne has been marked by justness and fair decision making, but also ruthless against those who would form opposition. Many a rebel has met their fate by the Emperor's executioners. The Imperial Army and Navy patrol the borders and provinces of his dominions, and aided in a great deal by Imperial Intelligence. Imperial Intelligence wasn't simply a single organization, it was a catch all for the varied agents, assassins, saboteurs, and informants that not only keep a watchful eye for dissidents but also gather information abroad. All headed by the Emperor's Spider, The Spymasters of the Empire, whose existence is full of rumors. Some say the Spider is a myth, or that it is the Emperor himself. Others tell increasingly wild tales of it being a Magi whose powers could rip the truth from a subjects skull miles away.

Whichever the case a letter embossed in black with a rid spider encircled by a blue ring sat on the Emperor's desk. In his private study overlooking the Imperial Palace Gardens and Pools. The Pools actually being carefully controlled hot springs that are kept by a dedicated team of groundskeepers.

"I need you to handle this, love."

"Cannot the Spider do this for you, Father?" In front of his desk, sitting on the plush chair which was at odds with the plain wooden chair the Emperor had previously been seated at, Altaeir chose a chair that wasn't too comfortable so that he may be alert and attentive to whatever document, article, object, or what have you was before him. A ruler was never to be too comfortable as to be caught unawares by anything.

"You need this responsibility. I will not be around for forever Saphyra, and one day you will be Empress, you need to know how to handle every matter of state." There was silence, and then Altaeir turned and beckoned his young daughter over, Saphyra rose and came over by the window. Altaeir pointed to the meandering courtiers, courtesans, nobles, and whoever else was in the Gardens or lounging in the pools. "See them. Liars, Cheats, some probably frauds, and by the Laws many should have been put to death long ago. But!" Altaeir held up the finger of his left hand with a flourish and smiled, "Just as they need us, we need them, order and security can only be achieved with a solid hierarchy. Pyramids do not work if built upside down, they'd crumble long before completion. However, the top stones in our case are ever on the look out to move up and force the other down. So when I stress you must learn every matter of state it is with the hopes you're lovely corpse won't be nailed to the Palace Gates anytime soon."

Saphyra visibly gulped. Altaeir picking up on this relaxed his tone, "You should visit the troops before they depart within the next few days. Good for morale and shows you, their future monarch, truly care for them."

Imperial Army Recruitment Office

The old soldier whipped the book around and looked at the quill scratching, "Yes, everything is in order, and no worries most who enter the military cannot read or write but typically pick up basic skills along the way. Some might say its the fastest way to get an education! I will record your ten year contract with His Imperial Majesty's Armed Forces."

Pulling out a slip of cut paper the old soldier wrote out some lines that Zephyr could not read. Stamping a small wax emboss on the corner to make it authorized he handed it to Zephyr. "You will immediately report to the Imperial Barracks. Any personal belongings can be fetched later. As of this moment you are a soldier of the Emperor, congratulations, give this slip to the Sergeant of the Watch at the Gates to the Barracks to be allowed entry. He will prompt you to the Officer in charge of recruits to begin your formal military life."

The old soldier handed Zephyr the small slip of paper and sat back down indicating he was free to leave and report to the Barracks.

The Prancing Stallion Inn & Lodge
Vyrengaard City

The Knights of Bluhd, known for their vicious attitude to war or anything really, was staying at a popular lodge in Vyrengaard City. No doubt currently unemployed and seeking a place to rest their heads and eat their fill. The Knights for their reputation were not stupid. None of them would start anything within the City or the surrounding area on pain of death. This was made abundantly clear when a Knight started a fight and slew a patron at a pub several streets over in 788. The Knight was promptly apprehended by the Cities Constables and executed by beheading the next morning in a public display.

A lone figure in black opened the wooden door to the lodge. Road weary patrons of various sorts cast glances or didn't look up from their plates and tankards. The figure made directly for a figure surrounded by Men clad in armor and bearing the sigil of the Knights of Bluhd. Stopping at the table the figure placed a letter down on the table bearing the Imperial Crest. One of the Knights almost gagged in surprise on his beer when he saw the Imperial symbol wax pressed onto the letter seal. The figure's face was hidden by a hood and seemed to wait as a knight to the right of Hans gently opened the letter and read a couple lines before handing it to their leader with wide eyes.

Ser Hans von Wolfenhausen

Your reputation, and that of your Knights, precede you. While my father would have loved the thought of seeing your merry band swinging from tree branches with nooses around your necks for various 'unsavory' acts committed during past times of employment I must state the kind of services you can provide are once again requested. My agent will deliver this to you and an up front 'investment' in this endeavor.

You are too, if you accept, locate a particular gunsmith in the wilds of Oregon whom Imperial Intelligence has earmarked as a possible issue. The gunsmith is rumored to be a bat like mutant of certain intelligence. Further the smith is with a group of bandits that have been spotted in the surrounding area by confidential informants traveling through, you may deal with them however you wish and consider any spoils yours by right. When within the borders of the Empire you are to act according to the Law, outside you may do as you wish to achieve this goal, and that is to bring said gunsmith to me in capital.

The lump sum at completion of services will amount to precisely 115 Crowns. My agent will return to me with your reply, but do not wait, once you accept you are free to pursue this gunsmith as you will.

Signed
Saphyra vy Aynreis

It was at this moment the agent spoke in a soft voice and tossed a leather bag on the table. The clunk of coins could be heard as it landed on the table. "20 in silver, enough to buy good food for a month or more, Her Imperial Highness considers it a sign of recognition for your impeccable history of completing contracts."

Loc Druedanann

"I'm not sure you know where you are traveler. But the Elders will decide that, we will grant you food, drink, and lodging for the night. But you must see the Elders." At that the sentries parted and let him through the porter door. Locking it behind them they led him into the fortress, past another set of great doors and into a wide hall. It was dark as many of the fixtures had been doused for the night. Taking a couple turns they entered a circular room with a circular table. An older looking man was sitting on one side while one of the sentries pulled out a chair for their guest to sit on. A bowl of steaming broth and a pint of ale was set out for him.

"Welcome to Loc Druedanann, traveler, I have no doubt you have heard of the Order of Hunters and what we do?" The man was Cassius. The only elder still up and willing to conduct this interview. The sentry bearing the crossbow piped up, "He seeks to trade information."

Cassius gave an 'ah' facial expression as he clasped his hands before him and spoke, "The Order does not share its secrets in regards to our profession which is hunting anything that foes bump in the dark. Such information can be dangerous to all but the trained. So tell me what you can offer? Oh and do not bother trying to pay for the food and drink or the bed we will provide. We are anything but rude hosts."

Holding up a hand the two sentries nodded and left the room. Leaving the old Hunter and Hynias alone in the room.

Somewhere in the wilderness (once south-west Oregon)

It was night now, and the sun had long ago left this land to sleep somewhere behind the mountain ranges that seemed to border the horizon in all directions. With its light gone the creatures of the day followed the suns actions and went to sleep as well, leaving their nocturnal counterparts to gaze upon the brilliant star filled night in relative quiet compared to the bustling daytime. The moon and its companions the stars, like the sun cast their light upon the earth this night but it was the combined efforts of the millions of sparkling stars and pale Luna that gave the ability to see even in this darkness.

Andre sadly wasn't as at home in the dark of night as many of the creatures that now moved about the wilderness, for he could barley see ten paces ahead of him and his eyes fluttered as they resisted the urge to close too soon.He wanted to look up at the cosmic portraits of the heavens above him, constellations and formations of all sorts of mythical beings were visible if only he could stay awake to see them all.On this black background he could connect the dots like his mother had shown him and imagine the sheer greatness that those ancients had to tread the sky like birds.Leaving their mark on history by creating stars that floated freely around the world, every once and a while becoming visible during a dark night or even crashing to earth in fire and brimstone.

He could make out the constellation Orion, a giant who could jump so high that he transported the ancients from the ground to the sky above with ease by carrying them in his belt.Such was the wonder of the old world and of the loss that had occurred so long ago in those forgotten times that one would think the ancients would have never fallen, but because of their denial of mother nature they doomed themselves to ruin.

"Blessed ancestors, how happy you must be to see we have returned to the goodness of nature." He whispered to himself as he snuggled up underneath the quilted bedroll he had recently bartered for truffles.Soon his eyes and tired body won out in the end and he fell asleep at the foot of a outcropping rock, dreaming of flying and painting clouds in the sky.

Palmer Lake, The Dominion of New Chataqua
Image

The rapier was a work of art. Gilead could feel the skill that had gone into its creation at the slightest touch. The hilt was wire-wrapped, guarded by an intricately forged and detailed cup guard and knuckle bow in the style popular among the Dominion's elite swordsmen. The blade had been ground out carefully from ancient steel...the leaf springs of cars...harder than any modern steel, laid down in thick grease by the old Emergency Comission, back in the days of the Water Wars.

He gripped the handle and drew it from the scabbard with a flourish. His valet smiled and bowed, withdrawing with the scabbard so his Lordship could put the blade through its paces unhindered on the green lawns of Estamere manor.
Gilead fell into an en garde position, and brought the sword up in a warrior's salute. The balance was perfect. A slight breeze caused aloose hair to tease him, the long brown locks drawn back into a bun. He could look down upon the town...winding cobbled streets snaking up and down the hill by picturesque row houses and businesses, all the way down to the great palisade and Butress Hill. The ancient highway and great warehouses that supplied the life of the capital city. He took a deep breath of the crisp mountain air.

Home. A beacon of light where the Old Ways and the ancient faith were still honored. Where civilization and freedom took their last stand on the edge of the wastelands.

Gilead launched into a series of attacks and binds, fencing an invisible opponent. He needed the exercise. The rest of the day was going to be spent in the war room.

-----

"Jordanson and his rangers report increased activity to the Northwest...we're not sure if De la Cruz is the cause, or the Empire." Jarod De Pry, chief Marshall, pointed to the corresponding sector of the map. "House Bryant has been awfully reticent about our overtures recently, and I wouldn't be surprised if the good captain is responsible for souring that particular deal."

"Heaven knows we can't sweeten the pot anymore. Bastard's gonna turn all of the Wilderness against us."

Gilead glared at the man. "Marshall Vandermeer, you will refrain from referring to Captain Ignacio in that way. Whatever may have happened to him, he is still a Knight and a gentleman of the court. Not to mention my friend." There was silent tension in the room for a moment.

Vandermeer swallowed heavily and nodded. "My apologies, your Lordship."

The tension subsided slightly. Gilead cleared his throat. "Now gentlemen, Jordanson has a point. We need to focus on expanding into the Northwest. That is where the best farmland still remains, adn if we let the Empire take control of all that, we will end up paying for it in the long run. They already have a more centralized military, a denser population base, and seem dead set on expanding. We need to keep them from gaining even more advantages if we want to maintain the balance of power."

"Sire, let's not forget the East." Jordanson interjected. "We have been hearing rumors of something stirring in the Wastes. Ranger patrols have met increased resistance. The tribes out there are on the move."

"Yes. All the more reason why we need to be secure to our West. The Californian powers know better than to mess with us...not unless they want to end up like Salt Lake. I am authorizing the Regulars: our pikemen and cavalry, and such Mountaineers and rangers as we can summon on short notice, to march north to our colonies in Idaho. We need to put the pressure on the kingdoms there to align with us, and if something happens, our reaction time will be that much shorter."

Northern Oregon

<hunters this is you>

Ignacio de la Cruz threw his hand up, and the three men behind him halted. Something had spooked the buck. He walked quietly...having traded his boots for mocassins on this particular hunting occasion. Cavalry boots just weren't quiet. Keeping the arbalest up and ready, Ignacio moved up to where the buck had stood moments before. He peered over the blackberry bush. Lights. torches and lanterns. The black hulk of a castle. His pulse rapidly increased. They were in danger.
He turned to the others. "We must tell the men."

Runo The Blood, Pirate King of the South
The Death Hand Clixue
Devils Peak, Southern Sea of California

The Arena of Choosing

All around the drums sounded their incessant thumping.

All around the horns blared their tune.

All around the men and women hollered into the dying day.

In the center of this scene was an arena surrounded by savage men of a rather rough disposition. The law of the land was being carried out, those who wished to challenge the King for his throne may do so at their discretion as the old ways went. In the center of this spectacle stood two: Me and a hot blooded young upstart named Mark The Strong who in the beginning exuded confidence but now was beginning to have second thoughts. To bad for him once entered in one could not leave the arena "two enter, one leaves" as the old saying went. Though he was a strong lad indeed, with surprisingly sophisticated footwork, I had good ole brutality and experience to work with which had all my life bought prosperity to me. He swung his sword and I parried it with my sword. He kicked up some sand but I blocked that with my shield. He saw and opening and smartly tackled my belly doing his best to get me on the ground so that he may use his greater weight to his advantage. This did not turn out so well for this lad though for I foresaw his move and swung my shield around smacking him square in the face. He bounced backwards and was on his back, I took the opportunity to try to slash at his belly but he was not truly out of the game and was able to continuously block my moves. He rolled out of the way and was back on his foot slightly disoriented but still with some composure. We circled around until I noticed he was bleeding from his nose, the sight of such a thing made me lose my composure with the beast within taking over. I charged him as fast as I could, he attempted to stop me slashing me in the arm but this would not be enough, and pounced upon him bringing my teeth down on him. I bought him to the ground and immediately began to tear out his throat with the blood lust clear in my eyes. Tried as he might there was nothing he could to stop what was coming. In the distance one could hear the roar of the crowd as their blood lust was sated by this quite barbaric act. Mark at first fought, but then he grew to weak so he started screaming, but then his mouth got choked with blood so he started gurgling, but then his limbs went limp and his heart gave out and his breath stopped so he went silent. Forever more. So ends the tale of Mark The Strong. However strong he was he wasn't strong enough to stop death itself. I rose myself from the gory corpse and raising my shield and sword into the air I roared proclaiming my victory for all to see, the crowd responded in turn. Just then the The bright eye of sky finally closed and the day finally died and the night finally was born again.

The Black Citadel

With a towel from an aid I cleaned myself up spitting out the blood from my foe, I took off my war helmet and replaced it with my mask. I made my way along the long hallway leading to my quarters with my aides following along speaking to me of things that may concern my attention ranging from recruitment and training of new troops to monthly earnings and losses in this bloody business of ares. I opened the door and bid them farewell. I went to my window which was open to the sea and watched as the the Great White Eye of Night rose and lay vigil upon the dark waves. If one were to look they would see storm cloud off in the distance with their lightning making arks of light through their skin and the thunder producing a blood curdling boom that sounded across for miles on end. I stated in a quiet tone "Winter is here and now the rains soon come." I sat down upon my desk and made myself mildly comfortable in a knobby wood chair that had long since seen better days. Taking a look around it was clear to any my spartan arrangements. Besides the desk there a small bed in a corner, an iron stove with a rocking chair in front, and on the side was a modest library filled with various books and papers with a variety of subjects. A large stack papers lied in front of me, mostly reports needing my signature, and went to the normal drudgery that was work. You would think I would hire someone to do this for me, but no for If you want things done right you have to do it yourself. I learned that the hard way. Thinking about gave me a slight chuckle which to wandering ears sounded like some type of strange dry huff, like a skeleton laughing as it's been described by some. I am not particularly a charming figure which should be obvious for most. While attending to my business one of my aides, a young woman named Gale, knocked on the door and poped her head right in asking me in a rather high pitched voice "Will you be going to the emissary lounge? You have a few guest." I looked at the mousy looking thing through masked eyes and nodded my approval. She did the same and left making sure to close the door.

The papers were finished so I had nothing else to do honestly. I put down my pen, picked up myself and the papers making sure to place them in a specially marked bin to show that they were to be picked up by my aids, and made my way out. This place was not a quiet place with shouts and clangs and swoons all around from the ones who inhabited this building. The Black Citadel was a large imposing stone building that easily dominated the landscape. It lies atop a hill providing sentry over the underlying beach watching for any intruders. It was quite well armed with various large Ballistas and rows of crossbow and spear wielding infantry, I had even gone so far as to recently add a few small cannons to help upgrade it's defenses. I made my way along and finally entered a surprisingly dark room that lied near the front entrance of the Citadel. Only the moon and candlelight were around to illuminate and these made mad shadows dance around the stone walls creating a rather Gothic effect. I sat upon what amounted to a throne while one of my aides, a young man named Gillian who was the twin of Gale, announced my entrance to those presence demanding their attention. The various emissaries, some from vassals others from more foreign lands, arranged themselves in a line of sorts. I beckoned the first one forward with my heavily scared hand, one of the only bits of my flesh I showed from under all the rune covered rags and my very own mask, and they came forward and spoke their piece:

Ser Hans von Wolfenhausen, Vyrengaard City

Hans lifted a mug to his lips, taking in the taste of the alcohol. Sitting beside him were a few of his Knights, Ser Hans being the leader of the mercenary band. He smiled at a thought of a village he had ransacked, being interrupted by an agent of the Empire entering and delivering a letter.

Hans took it, giving Fritz a hard stare after the man gagged over the letter. He read quickly, putting it back in the envelope. "You can tell your Empress she has a deal." Hans said, standing up. "Let's go boys. We've got a contract to complete." Upon his signal, several men stood up, gathering their things before leaving. Hans was the only one left, the others having gone to their horses.

"Tell your Empress that the Knights of Bluhd are looking for a castle and village to call home. I'm sure she could arrange something out in order for us to get one, ja?". He didn't wait for an answer, heading out the door with his men. His horse was waiting by the door, one of his knights holding the reins. "We ride to Oregon! Gather the others Heinrich." Hans barked out, one of the Knights galloping off.

Loc Druedanann

"Lead on." He said, thankful that he would be receiving something to eat. When he came to places like these, close knit groups that saw him as an intruder, asking for simple things like a meal became challenging. He followed the cloaked sentries through the fortress as they led him to meet the elders that apparently held power in here. They lead him into a great hall and motioned for him to sit down. He nodded and took a few steps over so that he could remove some of his gear.

First he removed his shield, the massive wall of metal being placed down with both hands as to not damage the floor. Next came his sword, his hands undoing the buckle and straps so that he could remove it more easily. He laid this next his shield, placing it on the ground instead of up against the wall. Next came his shoulder plates, which after its many straps were unstrapped he lifted over his head. His long cloak of sorts was attached to the two pauldrons and came off with them. Placing them on the ground as well he did them same to his chest plate, not bothering to take more off.

With over a hundred pounds of weight taken from his load, he breathed a calm and relaxed sigh, walking over and sitting in the chair set out for him.

"Welcome to Loc Druedanann, traveler, I have no doubt you have heard of the Order of Hunters and what we do?"

He was about to answer that he had indeed heard of the order, and wouldn't have made such a dangerous trip if he hadn't known what he could learn here. But before he could answer the sentry spoke up, informing the elder of the intentions he had expressed earlier. He took this time to pick up the mug and run it under his nose. Smelling the small scent of alcohol he blinked a few times and placed the mug back down. He had stopped drinking 7 years ago when he had been forced to subdue a man in a tavern to save the life of the bartender, the man having been under the heavy influence of the ale that had been served that night. He swore to himself that he would never fall victim to that, that he would never end up like him. It had been easier to give up the drink entirely than try to limit himself and after 7 years of sobriety he found that even the smell of the drink made him uneasy.

With that he pick up the spoon that sat in the bowl of broth and took a bite, savoring the warm flavor of it. He placed the spoon back in the cup as the Elder spoke again, knowing the often presence of de facto rules against doing other things when the leaders were speaking.

"The Order does not share its secrets in regards to our profession which is hunting anything that foes bump in the dark. Such information can be dangerous to all but the trained. So tell me what you can offer? Oh and do not bother trying to pay for the food and drink or the bed we will provide. We are anything but rude hosts."

Hynias ran his hand down his shaven face, wiping up a drop of broth that had escaped his mouth. He placed his hands on the table, one clasped by the other, and spoke in return, his voice the same calm tone he had used with the sentry.

"For the last nine years i have traveled the lands in search of knowledge in order to both honor the man who gave me the opportunity to have a better future, and to gain whatever knowledge i can. I have gone to many places that hold many things and i come here wishing not only to gain your trust so that you and the people of this fortress will impart what you known unto me, but to share what i have come to know to all who will listen. I have read the many volumes of Nythaginatio and his visions of a new world, i have interpreted the monuments left by the Northern tribes and read the accounts of their Immortal King, witnessed the miracle of birth and the tragedy of death, and i have seen the consequences of not being able to share the many things one sees in a life time." He stopped for a second, glancing down into his lap, his expression becoming one of sorrow. His gaze soon returned and continued.

"I have read the public imperial accounts of this order, and from what they tell me, you seem to possess many skills in killing not only the things that haunt the night, but hide within society, killing and doing as they wish once the moon rises. I have made this journey to learn these skills, and will impart things that i know in trade should you wish." With that took another bite of his broth and sat back, hoping it was enough to convince the Elder.

Cassius sat back in pondering thought. By the laws of the Order Hynias was far to old to begin formal training. Ideally the Order would take a recruit before the age of 8 and train them till 18 or 20 when they proved themselves ready by the various dangerous trials incorporated into their regimen. Further, and the other Elders would agree, that various knowledge kept by the Order locked away within Loc Druedanann should never see the light of day to begin with. However, perhaps an alternative.

"Honor is prized here. But honor needs to be proven by action, not words, if the man who raised you believed in such a thing this should be obvious to you. Frankly, you are far to old to begin formal training. Such training can take up to twenty years to complete and is dangerous. However, we do have a group setting out for the capital of the Empire on contractual work. You may tag along and the Hunters you accompany may teach you whatever they can in the field so to speak. Should you decide to return and with the approval of the Hunters accompanying you, I have no doubt myself and the other Elders will let you be privy to some tutelage. Judging by your gear you can at least earn your keep by helping our combat instructors teach....if you decide to come back that is."

Standing up and pushing in his chair the Elder whistled and the sentries returned. "You may take your time with the food and drink. I see you did not partake the ale. No matter our Master of Alchemy purifies our water and a tankard of it will be put by your bedside." Cassius was nearly at the other door her came from when he turned around once more, "Oh...I almost forgot. The Hunter leading the group tomorrow is named Arandyn but he also goes by the moniker of Snowfox. Knowing him he will leave at the crack of dawn."

Leaving the room the two sentries stood by the door they had brought Hynias through themselves. They would accompany him to his guest room once he had finished.

"So the Knights accepted the contract?" said Saphyra as she lounged on a couch.

"Yes your Highness. They seemed much enthused at the prospect of Imperial work." the same hoarse voice from the inn came through the hood.

"Indeed. Makes me wonder how they haven't been hanged by any of the peerage or foreign lords yet. No matter. What counts is that they bring this rogue gunsmith into our fold. Dismissed."

The agent bowed as he backed out of the room and the door softly closed behind him. Leaving the Imperial Princess to think further on the matter, and the inspection she would conduct before the Albion Division departed for the South.

Standing up she walked to her own private desk. A fine mahogany piece from Salem. It's finely polished and lacquered surface was almost to the texture of clear glass. Her father, Altaeir, Emperor of Vyrengaard. Had not joked about her education in being a future monarch. Her desk was covered in dossiers from various sources and covering an entire menagerie of subjects. Expected crop yields, written petitions, disputes, court cases high enough to warrant Imperial attention as the monarch was also the realms highest court judge and could overrule any sentence, land distribution from the frontier, Army logistics, Army reports, Army deployment manifests, Naval manifests, Navy reports, Naval logistics, Imperial Intelligence from a variety of sources, and the list went on.

Grabbing a petition she snapped open the wax seal denoting it came from the Duke of Saetyle (former Seattle). It read:

To most esteemed Imperial Majesty,

The Throne has long sought to expand further into East. Our borders being bound by the Kolumbia River, formally. As Your Grace already knows Imperial colonies have cropped up East of said boundaries. I seek a charter to formally begin organizing the land into formal territories so that they may be brought into the Imperial bosom and our Law.

This charter will formally recognize and establish boundaries, and regulate land distribution in accordance with Imperial Law. Further, several noble families have conflicting or staked claims in the region. As a result the region is largely lawless, full of outlaws, and robber barons are rife.

Further, merchants have established communications and trade with lands East and South-East. Namely the Dominion who seem to be moving further North and West. The small realms between them and us would topple one by one unless we grant them Imperial protection or assimilate them ourselves.

I await Your Grace's decision.

Signed.
Your Imperial Servant
Klaronce vy Saetyle
Duke of Saetyle and Count of Omac

Sitting back Saphyra thought for a moment on what her father would do. Namely the idea of marching Imperial Army troops and wresting control of the region from everything the Duke had aforementioned. However perhaps a more artful approach was required. Charters would be granted with Imperial Immediacy. Meaning those territories would answer only to the Emperor directly, bypassing a feudal lord. However, that could potentially anger those noble families who have stake in the area. So a compromise would be required. What if a March was formed. A buffer territory to prevent others from spreading into it, but not a full integrated provincial territory. That way charters could be granted to organized settlements, thus allowing them to be regulated and taxed, while those nobles with land claims can take it upon themselves to defend their new acquisitions within the boundaries of Imperial Law.

This idea in mind Saphyra picked up the quill and began to compose a reply in her own cursive hand writing.

"You have my thanks for this opportunity." He said, nodding to the elder. "I would glad to accompany your hunters on their mission and provide what assistance i can."

"You may take your time with the food and drink. I see you did not partake the ale. No matter our Master of Alchemy purifies our water and a tankard of it will be put by your bedside ... He nodded his head as he spoke of the water, very appreciative of the hospitality of this fortress and its inhabitants.

"I will be ready when he departs." He watched the elder leave and returned to his dinner, the broth still hot despite the many words that had just been spoken. He ate with a controlled speed, his hunger limited by his resolve despite the fact that it was only food. He finished in an orderly manner and placed the bowl to the side. He stood and walked back to where he had placed his armor, replacing his chest piece, his shield, and his sword. His gauntlets were still hanging from his belt and he elected to carry his pauldrons along with his helmet. He approached the sentries who were to lead him to his room and followed them out.

"You have my thanks." He said to the sentries as he closed the door, him thanking them for leading to the room. He sighed and walked to the opposite corner of the room to begin to take off his armor. His helmet and pauldrons were placed on the ground as well as his shield and his sword. His chest piece and lower body armor came off before his boots, the metal making the same storm of sound that always accompanied his putting on or taking off of his armor. Once he was finished he was left in his clothing, just a simple shirt and trousers that he wore under his armor so that he would be able to take pieces off if he needed to and still be decent.

He didn't a need for padding under his armor because it was built in, the suit of armor coming from a very good friend of his who spent far to much on it then needed, but then again for the price of such armor it was bound to be well made. It had also come with small pieces for repairs should be attacked and the armor damage. They weren't perfect fixes but they would patch up any punctured metal.

He stretched his body out before laying down, the lateness of the hour keeping him from taking the book he was reading from his pack and reading. Instead he retired and fell into a calm and restful sleep that would leave him refreshed and ready for the coming events the next day.

The Front Gate

The sun was beginning to crest over the peaks of the mountain as he stood by the door that he had been let in through. The breeze was slight and the humidity was decent, every breath he drew filled with an air of relaxation and a feeling of freshness. This was the time that the elder had specified, and he was to meet a man named Arandyn here at the gates. He wasn't sure if the group of hunter would be meeting here or not but they would need to leave through this gate, and so they would eventually cross his path in which he could join up with them and begin this journey.

While he would have much preferred to simply trade information, them giving to him what he sought and in return he would relate the teachings of long lost of volumes or the philosophies he knew. But instead he was too be sent on a journey to complete mercenary. But this wasn't a bad thing and in fact it would a good experience for him. Most of life he learned through books and stories, while he had been taught to fight through experience many of his tactics and much of his style came from a combination of many different accounts of legends and lost techniques recorded in writing buried in mountains thinned out by what he found to be successful in combat. This would be a good chance to learn things first hand from those who knew better than he.

He waited in the barely peaked sunlight until the person he was too follow arrived. He knew not when this would be, but he would wait unless instructed to otherwise or he was greeted by Arandyn.

Zephyr Alron
Vyrengaard City

Zephyr watched with intent as the elderly man examined his awkward and hastily written excuse for a signature. Only after a short moment he spoke up,
Zephyr's ears perked with curiosity, dying to hear what he had to say. Much to the boys delight, he was accepted into the Imperial Army, something he had been dreaming about for a lifetime. Joy filled the young boys soul as the recruiting officer shuffled some things about and produced a highly official looking piece of paper with extravagant markings about it. The object was held out in front of him and a smile creeped across his face as his fingers met the paper.

The object itself was a very thin but long strip of paper likely processed from felled trees in the forest around the city, much like the wooded area that surrounded his family farm. Zephyr quickly brought himself back from his thoughts, looked at the old man and took the paper quickly. It was then explained this would gain him entry to the barracks elsewhere in the city. While he smiled like a fool, staring at the paper which he had no means of understanding he looked back up and noticed the old man was laid back in his chair, simply observing him.

Zephyr had taken that as his cue to leave.

"Sir thank you sir!" he exclaimed before quickly heading out the door.

Though the streets of Vyrengaard were still abuzz with the daily business being conducted there was one young man zipping about, bobbing and weaving through the heavy foot traffic with some occasional carts and horses mixed in. Finally Zephyr made his way to the barracks a few city blocks over, he looked at the imposing structure in awe.

It was built of heavy stone materials, like much of the Imperial buildings and tapestries of the Empire were hung from each tower that ringed its expanse. His attention, however was now focused on the large metal gates guarding entrance to the facility, on both sides it was flanked by two men clad in heavy armor, with the symbol of the Empire on their breastplate. Though they were intimidating, Zephyr was now a fellow soldier in service to the Empire, as such he marched directly to them, presenting the paper he was given earlier.

"My name is Zephyr Alron and I must show this to the Sergeant of the Watch." he stated proudly.

The King's Highway

"400 Mountaineers. 200 Rangers. 1,500 pikemen. 2,000 musketeers. 1,000 cavalry." Marshall Jordanson muttered to himself under his breath. All around he could hear the sounds of the host under his command, the great balance of the royal army not already deployed, in movement. The tramp of the infantry's boots across the roughly maintained pavement of the royal road. The clop of horses's hooves and the creaking of the great war waynes that served as both transport and fortress for the army on the move.

All bound to the North.

"400 Mountaineers. 200 Rangers. 1,500 pikemen. 2,000 crossbowmen. 1,000 cavalry." Jordanson muttered again, and clutched the hilt of his sheathed sword a little tighter. His mount trudged on, head down, mirroring the apprehension his master felt. The last man of his rank who had marched North under the Pine Banner had gone mad and deserted.
I hope I fare better than that poor devil de la Cruz .

The Keep (Formerly Cheyenne Mountain Military Complex

"Look closely, my Lord. What do you see?"

Gilead leaned in to the mound of black powder, narrowing his eyes.
"The grain...it's in chunks.....what is that?"

Dominique chuckled, clearly delighted. "That, my lordship, is corned powder."

Gilead shifted, staring at the stuff. "So..."

"The beauty of this innovation, M'lord, is that the powder is not only easier to load into musket or rifle, it is also more powerful. Here."

Dominique thrust a snaphance pistol into Gilead's hand, then stepped away and gestured at a steel cuirass that hung suspended at one end of the long subterannean hall.

"Try your hand?"

Gilead pointed and squeezed the trigger. There was a thundering roar and the pistol bucked in his hand. A cloud of smoke drifted past him, Dominique was already dancing.
"See! See!"

Gilead blinked and stepped up to the cuirass. The ball had gone clean through the thick, slanted metal right over the heart, leaving a ragged hole and sharp edges. He stuck his finger into the gap.

The Lord of Estamere whirled to glance at his chief alchemist. "When can we have this issued...?"

"By the winter, sire. I have already begun production for the elite guard. Now come, I have other ideas to show you,,,"

The Knights of Bluhd, Ser Hans von Wolfenhausen
Vyrengaard Empire

"Ser Hans, we have commissioned a ship by the name of 'Souzan'." Fritz, second in command of the Knights of Bluhd stated. Fritz was an ugly man, having had his nose broken in a battle and it never healed properly. Nonetheless, he was in Hans' trust and graces and was his right hand man. He wore the standard knight armor, though his helmet had horns of some monster rather than something ornamental.

About time.. Hans thought to himself, looking at Fritz. "We head out now, when we get to Oregon we'll slay the entire crew. There's nothing the Empress can do about it, as we'll be out of Vyrengaard.". Fritz grinned at the prospect of getting their money back along with a ship and other items. "I like the sound of that." Fritz said, laughing.

"Men! We leave now! Get on the ship!" Hans shouted, the men grumbling as they boarded the ship. None of them cared too much to be on a boat, except for Heinrich. Heinrich could be seen as the band's quartermaster, as he procured contracts and equipment. He was of plain face but he had a way with words, much to Hans' chagrin. Heinrich had a way with the ladies, often ending up late or in the bed of some official's daughter. Or both, which was a pain in the ass Hans thought, smiling to himself.

An hour later and they were sailing to Oregon with the provisions that were needed.

Hawken's Fortress,
Frontier's of Oregon

The idea of AI had worked but only to a certain extent. The idea of a bandit tribe was accepted but they wouldn't know about the fame rouge smith. They used this as the bandits used the sharpened blades to started conquering the neighbors, at least AI had kept up with the workings in his deep home but he started to become more of a night worker as the rumors of the Night Smith was going through the settlements. The bandits were getting stronger under Hawken and he left AI alone for the most part, until the news came.

The newly equipped bandits were looking forward to conquer and burn their way into the Imperial Frontiers and try to carve out their own path in the Frontiers. AI had told Cloud that this wasn't going to work but he thought that it wasn't his place but he started to look for more steel and such to prepare to start to field the steel. He also asked while Hawken and his horde go do what they do best, that they find some blueprints or perhaps some scrape metal that he could try his claws at trying to smith some armor that isn't looted. He could easily find the leather but sewing equipment would also come in handy to be able to get the pieces together. Even though she said yes he didn't have much faith in his workings and knowing that weapons are his specialty and Hawken turning into a warlord that sooner or later he will ask for cannons and bombs.

AI feared that day as he would ask for it and the Imperials will try to find out about it. This will be something he would have to keep in mind to escape when the Imperials try to search for the smith who gave them gunpowder.
This account must be deleted. The person behind it is a racist, annoying waste of life that must be shunned back to whatever rock he crawled out from.

Loc Druedanann Flashback

Not long after Hynias had entered the old Fortress was when Hunter sentries out on patrol, a single group of six that circumnavigated the fortress walls, noted sounds in the forest. They cautiously began to follow the movements with four of the Hunters, one female and the rest male, having alterations and thus able to see in the dark. They crept up close further away from the fortress. Movement was seen, voices from human throats that were undoubtedly mail, and the jink of metal. The Hunter's fanned out into a half circle and watched as a large band of men were breaking camp for some reason. They were not terribly far from the fortress, just over a mile, and yet given the terrain the fortress could not be seen from their present location.

One of the Hunters, an older grizzled veteran bearing the rank of Master Hunter, stepped out into the open, palms up to show he had no weapons drawn.

Loc Druedanann

Arandyn emerged from the stables as dawn signaled the new day with golden light rising up from the Mountain ranges to the East. Both Arandyn and his protege Syra were mounted as they approached the main gate. Gradually by themselves or in pairs others began to form up behind Arandyn and Syra. The party to complete the contract in the capital of Vyrengaard.

The party was a motley assortment, aside from Arandyn and Syra only one other Hunter showed signs of the alteration process with cat eyes and color bleached hair the color of fresh fallen snow. This hunter was named Gregorian and was slightly older than Arandyn by only a couple winters. A brutal scar went from the end of his lips on the right side of his face up to nearly his ear. Almost like a sick impression of a half-grin taken to extremes. Even as he sat on his own steed he could be seen to be only an inch shorter than Arandyn and wider.

The rest of the party was comprised of an older Huntress named Becka with brown hair streaked in grey. Her brown eyes flicked about like a hawk and a bow was strong in her riding bags. Then their was two younger Hunter's of early twenties named Folwine and Guthen. Then three Sanctioned Hunters named Ebert, Erik, and William. All of them had two blades aside from other weapons that helped differentiate them.

Arandyn didn't pause to look at Hynias as they moved past him, only indicating to the spare horse following the group, and it seemed the Hunter hospitality also extended to not having the traveler walk the entire way. The Hunter's as they exited the main gate veered sharply North along a small trail. Their voices were low and largely held to those directly around them. Yet, they seldom turned to talk to each other face to face, instead opting too keep their eyes out in different directions. Even close to their fortress their vigilance was anything but prudent.

The Black Citadel

The Court of the Pirate King was generally held guest for those that the Islands neighbored. Small domains as the Kalifornian lands were often barren, fractured politically, and full of internecine warfare. The Kalifornian Empire only covered the Eastern center of the State and was too weak to exert itself further. So alas, the former state of California was the most economically poor and warlike region West of Nevada.

So the Court was full of backstabbers as diplomats. Each one declared who they were and whom they represented. Various petty nobles, merchants, and even bandit syndicates that dominate the Southern quarter of the former state.

Such individuals were Hawlon of Fernando who represented the Principality of San Fernando (former San Fernando Valley bordering the now Inner Californian Sea). Erique de Pasco from Anahim (Former Anaheim), and so forth. None particularly note worthy. Each one made their case asking for protection from piracy in the form of bribes, bargains, or trades. Others gave tribute in the hopes of staving off attacks by the Pirate King himself. Others spoke in alarm of the Vyrengaard Navy having been spotted with increasing frequency in Northern Californian waters.

"It's only a matter of time before the Empire will seek to establish itself about the Inner Californian Sea!" said Erique de Pasco with a slightly reddening face. Of course the reason being was that four ships flying Anahim colors had been seized by Imperial authorities for carrying pirated goods passed off as legitimate. The losses alone in goods not to mention the impounded ships and crews amounted to roughly 7,000 silver pieces.

"What of pirates coming up from lands farther South! Twice now those savages in their junkers-passing-off-as-ships have raided our shores! I beseech Runo to retaliate!" added Hawlon in a quieter but no less serious tone.

So on the bickering went back and forth within the court. A Kalifornian merchant countered that perhaps private privateering would be a reasonable solution to the problem. Have the pirates under Runo go legit to fight off these threats and protect the trade monopolies in the region. This was shouted down by those who profit from the status quo with all intents of a brawl about to ensue. Such was the politics of the land.

Vyrengaard City
Imperial Barracks

The two Imperial Army guards, wearing plate armor with sallet helms and bearing glaives, looked at Zephyr as he approached. After the young man spoke the sentry to the left lifted up his arm and rang the heavy iron ring on the gates three times. The side door opened and another soldier stepped out. This soldier had a green feather stuck into the helm hanging from his belt. Signalling him as a Sergeant.

The sentry who knocked passed the paper from Zephyr to the Sergeant who read it to himself silently. Rolling the paper up the Sergeant said, "Come."

Leading Zephyr passed the threshold with the heavy door swinging shut behind him they passed through the gate house. Soldiers milled about, Arbalests and archers patrolled the walls, and crews manned siege engines mounted on the battlements. The Imperial Barracks was on a perpetual state of war footing, ready for action at a moments notice, and prepared to deploy into or out of the city on a whim from the Emperor.

The gatehouse itself was fifty yards from front to rear wit ha second set of gates and portcullis present. These yawned open to allow passage into the Barracks proper. Where as the capital was a warren of streets and avenues the Imperial Barracks was organized on a grid pattern. Two main avenues that intersected in the center ran through the camp. Dividing it into four quadrants. Rows of buildings provided lodging for troops, stables for horses, workshops for armorers and weapon-smiths. In one corner tanneries for leather working existed along with fletcher for the production of arrows and bolts. A large muster zone dominated the area of the camp just too the North-East of the Barracks center point. It was called the Field of War officially.

As they walked the Sergeant spoke, "Your old life is over recruit. Today you are part of the Imperial Army. You are one of many, yet crucial, and will no doubt find brotherhood within the ranks. It is not an easy life, but better than many, and secure as well."

Walking along the wide through fare running North-South they came to a squat building that was rectangular and flat. Opening the door the Sergeant led Zephyr inside were soldiers in simple dress without armor walked about organizing goods and supplies. An older man with graying hair sat at a large oak desk with stacks of papers about.

"Quartermaster Henrick. New recruit." The Sergeant passed the slip of paper to the Quartermaster who looked up briefly to take the slip. Reading it himself he scrawled information into a ledger nearby and stamped the slip of paper given to him before it vanished ina desk drawer.

"Report to Drill Master Vyn." said the Quartermaster as another soldier stopped by with a document that demanded his attention. The Sergeant shrugged and waved Zephyr over. The Drill Master was not hard to find as a muster of recruits was taking place. Seeing their approach Vyn pointed with an olive branch in his hand and spoke in a voice like granite grounding together. "New blood. Get in formation on the end there!"

At that the Sergeant looked at Zephyr and nodded before turning his back and leaving the way they had come. Zephyr slid into the formation, first row, on the far left of the group of perhaps forty recruits in plain clothing.

"I am Drill Master Vyn. Frydrik Ule Vyn. I am your master and you are my wenches. Today is a new day for all of you. Some of you have already been with us for a couple weeks, others arrived just a few days ago...and yet others jut now. As such some of you are already far along their training. But for all those new here this is the first day of formal education. Those who have already trained for at least a week will report to the melee pit for sword practice. Everyone else will run the perimeter of the Barracks grounds. As many times as it pleases me. Physical training is imperative as much as skill with a weapon. Go!"

At that the recruits broke with some moving off to the fighting pits. Others broke off into a run down the avenue heading North whereby they will then turn left and begin running the perimeter of the camp. To top it all off the sound of hooves would approach a minute later with Vyn riding behind the running recruits. To Zephyr this would be hell week.

The small camp was, to an untrained eye, a seething cauldron of chaos. A skilled military observer, however, would note with some surprise that the ragged, oddly clad band of soldiers were in fact very efficiently gathering their few possessions and provisions, their focus outward towards the threat while they went about their tasks with the thoughtless precision of automatons.

Therefore, it was singularly unremarkable that the alarum was sounded by a junior cavalryman with his arms buried in a bedroll. "Foes around, to arms!."

In an instant, swords were drawn, crossbows levelled, and crude pistols aimed at the man and the bushes behind him, men sheltering behind their packs and mounts. Complete silence fell.

"Hold fire." The voice was calm and clearly accustomed to commanding obedience. A man in an open sallet helm, with dark-laquered (and clearly expensive) gorget, cuirass, and pauldrons, swung smoothly down from his stallion. He approached the Master Hunter, hands held well away from his weapons, brown eyes glinting with amusement.

"You found us. We did not intend to trespass. Who are you and what lands are these?"

Vyrengaard City
Imperial Army Barracks

Once Zephyr had presented his papers, the process of inducting him began like clockwork, no doubt a sign of the efficiency he would come to expect from the Army. Shortly after a man appeared from a lesser door and quickly looked over the piece of paper that Zephyr had carried, he then uttered a single word, "come" his voice was rough and deep. The boy looked around as he was escorted further into the compound, now passing through the imposing gate house. From the look of things any attacker would have to commit a rather enormous force in order to crack the Imperial defenses.

Passing through the gate was all manner of buildings, laid out in the same fashion and built uniformly. It appeared to him that every detail of this place was planned out far in advance of its construction, compared to the chaos of the rest of the city, strewn about and built when needed. The sergeant spoke as they marched through the grounds, his words hit home with young Zephyr and reinforced his reasoning for joining the Army in the first place. They soon entered another nondescript building, wherein scores of soldiers were setting about their work. Within seconds Zephyr was in processed and ready to begin training, the sergeant led him to a rather imposing man standing in front of a neat square of fresh soldiers before him. As Zephyr assumed the far end of the formation, completing its forty man complement, the sergeant left and the new man, whom he was told to be a Drillmaster bellowed to the men under his command.

In only a few blasts from his commanding voice the recruits scattered like cockroaches to the four winds. Several groups split off to their respective areas leaving Zephyr standing alone in the field, when it clicked what the Drillmaster had ordered. He quickly began running off in the direction the greener recruits had fled, he quickly caught up to them and began pacing himself to their speed, as they raced around the barracks. His head turned at the sound of horse behind him, gaining slowly, to his surprise he was being chased down by Drillmaster Vyn!

With that sight Zephyr dug deep, controlling his breathing, focusing on his energy and the task before him. His legs sped up, almost double the speed he was going at before. Heavy thuds came from the ground as his feet slammed into it, propelling the young boy forward and passing up two recruits, while gaining on a third one.

Outside of Loc Druedanann

Hynias had mounted his horse, abet slowly, and was now following the hunters as they traveled outside of the larger gates that belonged to the mountain fortress. His armor was much noisier than that of the others, this being accentuated by the ups and downs of the horse he was riding on, a beast that must be strong to carry half its weight in metal and flesh. He kept his eyes alert just as the others did, but he focused on something that they did not, something that they didn't have to, them. While he was perfectly alert for danger he knew that if ambushed he would be essentially useless until he was able to get off of his horse. It had been many years since he had been trained to ride a horse, and while riding was something he was comfortable with, fighting on a beast such as this would spell disaster as he was neither equipped for horse combat nor did he have the training to engage in it.

He hoped it would not come to this, and if it did, he had faith that the hunters he was traveling with would be proficient enough to dispatch them without his help. His thoughts shifted to the things he had seen earlier, the differences between some of the hunters. While some of them kept their appearance mostly similar to his some had stark differences. Things like eyes and hair color. While he wasn't disturbed by it by any means, the process of which someone must have gone through to have such things sent a shiver down his spine. His gaze shifted as he thought, making sure nothing caught him off guard.

"If i may ask." He said, his voice loud enough for all to hear but quiet enough for the sound to only reach those around him. "What are the details of the contract we will be completing?"
