Watchers - IC [Closed]

Postby The GAmeTopians » Sun Sep 06, 2015 4:36 pm

For those interested in this RP, please refer to the OOC for more information.

Watchers Part the First: [To Be Named]

Rain fell gently in the streets of the City of Lumia. The clouds and sky were dark, yet the thunder inherent of a thunderstorm was not present. Occasionally a shadowy figure was visible in the mostly empty streets, whisking about to some business or another. One particular figure is where our story begins. This figure was wearing a dark, immaculate suit, and carried a large umbrella to keep it that way. Upon closer look, you might realize that this was a young man, no older than twenty-five or so. He wore a black top hat on his head with a grey band just above the rim, complementing his suit perfectly. In his right hand, clacking against the ground as he walked, was a peculiar brown cane. Upon first glance one might dismiss it as a normal walking cane, only wondering why such a young man was using it; they would be mistaken. Starting from the semicircular handle, intricate carvings wove down its sides, bearing resemblance to runes of some sort. The young man abruptly turned off the street he was walking on, striding up a short set of steps. He stood in front of a tall oak door, stained dark brown. More intricate runes were carved along the sides of the door in two columns. A detailed metal knob sat on the right side, but there did not appear to be any keyholes. A sign to the left of the door read "Matthew Watcher, PhD". The man raised his cane to the door and used it to tap the center of the door. The door quickly glowed a faint purple, and the man turned the doorknob. The door creaked open, and the man snapped his umbrella shut, stepping inside quickly. The man known as Matthew Watcher shoved the door closed behind him, tapping it again with his cane. More runes on the inside of the door glowed, and it was sealed. He hung up his coat and hat on a rack, leaning his cane against the wall. He walked over towards his computer, not bothering to turn on the light - he had memorized the layout of his home/office perfectly. He powered the device on, and maneuvered his way to email.

Dear my fellow Watchers,

Something quite important has come up, and I would rather not describe any way but in person for fear of interception. My teleportation rune will be activated in exactly ten minutes. You all know the code.

Your colleague in secret,
Matthew Watcher, Creator of the Vampiric-Human Pact, Defender of Humanity

He sent off the email, and climbed the stairs to his meeting room. Matthew opened a pocket watch, waiting for the ten minute mark.

The rain fell on another figure, an odd silhouette in the darkness. It might have been confused for a statue, for what else could it have been? The appearance of movement was surely just a trick of the light, what light there was.

Standing on a rooftop, long hair blowing out behind, a young woman clad in a thin dress that wasn't nearly enough to protect her from the chilly air. The confusing thing, however, was the fact that she had a pair of magnificent wings spread out behind her, giving her the appearance of a guardian angel watching the city below.

She was not a statue, though. No, she was quite... well, not exactly human. Only halfway.

To be specific, half-human, half-angel. A Naphil, the legendary product of a union between human and host, more commonly known as the six-fingered giants called Nephilim.

She stood there on the roof in the cold, simply waiting.

Waiting, and watching.

For it was an oft-asked question, 'Who watches the watchers?'

And although she knew it not, she was the answer to the quandary.

Arktos had seen the Girl with wings arrive on the rooftop. He could tell by her scent alone that she was not human. He arrived on the building by jumping from the one directly behind her. He landed with an audible thud. As she turned towards the noise he spoke and asked in his deep rumbling voice " Little one, I can tell you arent quite human, Why are you here?"

Merlin
Vancouver Island, Canada

Since the beginning of time, there has been an uneasy balance between good and evil. Chaos and Order, to faces of the same coin. One can't exist without the other, a concept that many civilizations understand, a concept that has been forgotten in recent times. The majority of the world prefer to see it black and white, Chaos is evil, Order is good. This is mankind's greatest illusion, the illusion of good and evil. Like Chaos and Order, good and evil are two sides of the same coin.

The thing with a coin, it will almost always reveal one face. The coin toss is how humans perceive others, heads or tails, good or evil. But. There is a possibility, be it nearly impossible, that the coin doesn't land on a face, but instead lands on its side. What happens then, the illusion of good and evil is erased. All it takes is for that coin to land on its side for one to see through the illusion.

Demons run when a good man goes to war... was all a single man could think about as he followed a trail, What constitutes a good man? Is it the acts he does, or the reasons behind them? he questioned.

The trail he followed could not be seen by a normal person. So how could he follow it? He wasn't normal. Nor what he was following. He was on the tail of a demon. He picked up the pace, and eventually his prey came into view.

It tried to fight, but it was useless. The demon was out matched, and within a minute found itself confined to a limited space, in a place unknown. Imprisoned in a small gem.

The man smiled, "Easy." was all he said as he walked away, gem in his pocket.

Some time later

The man was sitting enjoying a coffee. It didn't matter what time of day it was, coffee was good. He checked his email. Instantly his eyebrows raised.

So... The Watchers need me... he thought, Very well... With that he checked the time, Five minutes... he thought as he walked out of the Tim Hortons, and into an alley. He made his preparations, and waited.

"And that will be $34.95 sir." Harry paid in cash and took his groceries from the young man behind the checkout, he often did his shopping late when there weren't many people around. The ones that worked here were already used to him and his various eccentricities and thought nothing of the man who always wore a top hat with a red band and idly twirled an ornate cane with one hand. That said, Harry was glad for the attention of the few other patrons who gave him confused glances as he walked towards his car in the parking lot. He spent every day of his life keeping this small Nebraska town safe, mostly from Ghosts and werebeasts, and he felt he deserved at least a little attention... even if it was for something completely different. Setting his groceries in the car, Harry felt his phone buzz in his pocket letting him know he got an email, and he gave it a quick read through. "Ten minutes isn't quite enough..." Shutting the car door he typed out a quick response.

Most Esteemed Compatriot,

Terribly sorry, but I'll need to arrive a bit late.
Have something that must be taken care of before I go anywhere, but I will come post haste.

Yours Ever Truly,
Lord Harry Cantor

Harry hit the gas and belted out of the parking lot. If he followed the speed limits he could make it home and put everything away in 20 minutes.
He was going to aim for 15.

She smiled, but it didn't reach her eyes.
"Life is a riddle, thus my speech holds the secrets of life, a riddle wrapped up in a mystery inside an enigma which has been inserted into a conundrum buried underneath a puzzle which, to its own surprise, has found itself wrapped up in a riddle entirely different from the one I first spoke of. Find the key and you find life itself, or perhaps death, or perhaps a state of in-between, dreaming in a floating world of nonsense and ciphers." She turned back to the city below, gazing down with eyes of sorrow.
"And my name is Charlotte."
Then she jumped off the roof.
Just before she hit the ground, she spread her wings and shot back up into the sky, hovering for a moment, perfectly silhouetted by the moon, and then falling gently to the earth below.

She knew exactly where she would go tonight.

When she arrived at the house, the lights were on inside, and she knocked gently on the door before stepping back into the shadows. An old woman opened the door, and looked around in confusion. Charlotte smiled gently before crafting a ball of white fire and pressing it against her chest, letting it run over her until her entire body, wings included, was aflame. Her blue eyes shone out like brilliant sapphires, contrasting with the tiny white fire covering her body. The woman's eyes widened, and Charlotte spoke, deepening her voice.
"You need not fear me. I will not harm you, no, I have come for a different reason. I have watched your kindness, and I have come to give you hope. You have believed in Jehovah-jireh, the God who provides, and I have come to confirm that belief. Never lose your faith." With that, she extinguished the flames and flew away.

Allister Crowley was a man of taste and refined urbane nature. He could often be seen frequenting a number of suit stores in and around the London area. Though his favorite must've been Anderson & Sheppard, after all, he was the new owner of the store. He purchased it under a fake name and with funds he received from his grandfathers inheritance. But this was more than a suit shop, it also served as his headquarters for his Watcher post. "Mr. Walendorf, I would appreciate it if you would take this job seriously, I have an engagement with the Queen in two weeks and I want this suit to be worthy of her." The Duke of Edinburgh exclaimed as Allister took his measurements. "I apologize, but you have put on a considerable amount of weight since you last visited my store, my lord. Now I have to make all new measurements so I can make a suit fitting of a man of your stature and status." This wasn't the first time a nobleman had come to his store. He had received visits from Dukes and Duchesses, princes, business tycoons, and even the King of Jordan. So among the wealthy and aristocracy, "Clarence Walendorf" was the best tailor in the business. "I shall have you know, Mr. Walendorf, that I have not put on any weight. My doctor has had me on a strict diet." The duke retorted, obviously annoyed at the remark. "Yes sir, and I am done. All the measurements have been made and I shall bring in a selection of our finest fabrics." Crowley said as he exited the room. Two minutes, Allister stood outside the door later wearing his brass colored trench coat and top hat, carrying his cane. His cane transformed into a Halberd and he opened the door, striking the Duke with the spiked tip of his halberd, killing him instantly. But, what came out was not normal blood, but a green ichor as the thing fell to it's knees, face contorting as it reverted to it's original form, a bald, expressionless being with large, white eyes. "How... How did you know?" The being asked. "The Duke of Edinburgh is a good friend of mine. The second you walked in the door, I could tell." He punctuated the sentence as he chopped off the doppelganger's head with one swift swing. His cane reverted to it's normal form and he looked at the mess. "I need to get less expensive carpet." He thought as he took of the trench coat and hat and changed into jeans and a t-shirt. He grabbed a bucket and sponge and started cleaning up the mess. He looked at the time. "Oh, bugger." He thought as he hastily disposed of the body and flushed the ichor down the toilet. He went to an empty room, after changing back into his suit, trench coat, and top hat and took out his gold pocket watch. Checking the time, he drew a teleportation circle and placed the teleportation rune in the center and after a blinding flash of light, was teleported to what he called "Watcher HQ". "Alright, what did I miss?"

Benjamin walked through the streets, his hat resting loosely on his head as he watched the girl fly away. He gave a sigh as people walked through him, not realizing he existed, not realizing that he was on like them. He turned, and looked through the crowd of people, and watched the nephilim fly away on her wings.

He wished he could fly away, sometimes.

Fly away from the flawed reality which he lived in.

So, he stopped.

"Oi! Flying girl with the gift for the theatric! Could you get me some food!" He yelled, completely serious. Despite his technical age, he looks like a fourteen year old boy, acts like one, and for all intents and purposes, is one. "I don't really have any cash on me!"

Charlotte didn't even hear him, because she wasn't there. She had landed on a rooftop, but unfortunately, it didn't stay there.

Well, it did. To be more precise, it was she who moved. A Watcher had left a teleportation circle on the roof, and she fell through it, landing in a room of strangers. She clambered to her feet quickly, setting herself aflame and staring at those around her warily.

"What the?!" Allister said in shock as he tumbled back in surprise. He recovered as quickly as possible and turned his cane into a Lee-Enfield rifle, leveling it at the flaming woman's forehead. "Who are you and how did you get here?"

Matthew jumped back from the rune, only having just finished drawing. He chuckled, seeing Allister.
"You're two minutes early, Allister. Do have a seat, the others will arrive shortly."
He gestured to the large table, with several chairs situated around it. Realizing the lights were still off, he quickly sketched out the basics of a light rune. The room lit up with light from an unseen source. He smiled, but that quickly faded when he heard the faint breeze caused by a rune activation. He turned around, seeing Charlotte standing there.
"Nephilim. How did you get here?"
He drew a summoning rune in the air with his finger, one of the few runes any Watcher could pull off (magic talent and all that). His cane appeared his hand.

Grumbling, the boy followed. He snuck into the building, which was easy as pie, climbed the huge amount of staircases to the roof, and watched as the girl poofed in a Watcher circle.

"You're kidding me." He said, following her into the circle, proofing in directly behind Charlotte. He glanced warily around the room, staring at the Watchers, and hoping they didn't see him. Unfortunately, as he was pressed against the Nephilim, she probably knew he was there.

"What was I just dragged into?" he muttered under his breath.

She then pushed Benjamin away from her and summoned another fireball so she had one in each hand.

Matthew's years of learning ran through his head as his cane moved like lightning. A long strand of runes appeared by his motions, and it wrapped itself in a circle around Charlotte. Her flames extinguished, and two runes vanished from the strand. A purple strand of mana appeared around her ankles, locking them tight. And a final strand tied her wings together, activating the final runes.

The appearance of a Nephilim was unsettling enough but the appearance of another person, was just wrong. Allister opened his pocket watch and yelled "ALEISTER! GO!" All of a sudden, Aleister Crowley, Allister's illegitmate ancestor appeared behind the boy. "Don't move Boy!" Aleister said as he grabbed the newcomer.

"You are in the Headquarters of the Watchers, protectors of humanity. We have no business with you, yet you intrude upon our home."

Charlotte struggled to free herself at first, but then stopped, as if resigned to her fate.
Her eyes told a different story.
"Well, I certainly didn't ask to come here! Last time I checked, landing on a roof didn't normally take me to you!"

"Do you have any food here? I haven't eaten in a few days." Benji said innocently as he raised his hands in the air. "Do I look armed to you? Is this necessary?" Benji said, glaring at the man who held his collar. "You're stretching out my collar. Do you know how fucking hard it is to buy clothing when you 're dead?"

Merlin

Now. Merlin thought as he activated the teleport. He appeared in the meeting room. Looking around he say two Watchers, a rather different boy and a Nephilim. He smirked.

"So... you called?" He said to Matthew.

Charlotte's eyes narrowed. "Great, more people to join the party. Am I the only one who feels extremely uncomfortable about this situation? Anyone else? Anyone at all? I mean, I don't have a lot of experience here, but last time I checked..."

This did not go over well with Aleister. "Try a good suit when you have been STUCK IN A WATCH FOR 200 YEARS!!!" This whole scene was starting to annoy Allister. "Aleister! Just put the boy down!" He turned to the Nephilim and the rest of the Watchers. "CAN WE JUST CALM DOWN!!!"

Merlin

Merlin looked at the Nephilim, "Please, don't look at me like that. I don't like attention. Oh, and you get used to the feeling. And if you were brought here, then there is a reason."

He then looked to Allister, "I am calm."

"Then let me go!" Charlotte was practically screaming now. She didn't take kindly to being trapped, and she didn't like this scenario at all. In fact, if she ever found the Watcher who left the teleport circle on the roof, she might have been sorely tempted to kill them.

"No, I won't get used to the feeling! Do you have any idea what you're even talking about?" Her eyes glazed over slightly, and her voice lowered to a mournful cadence, underscored by slight madness. "Oh, the things I could speak of, riddles and falsehoods and twisted truths and blood, fire, pain, terror, I speak from beyond worlds and souls and humanity lost to the darkness in a man's heart. I could speak of things incomprehensible and yet burned into the minds of every human on this miserable, lost world!"

Matthew sighed.
"Am I unable to hold a rather important meeting without intruders?"
He heard the words of Charlotte, and stopped.
"There's only one Watcher I know who draws rune circles on rooftops..."
His eyes rolled to the sky.
"Damn your soul, Jensen! Did you really have to leave a full teleportation circle on a rooftop before you died from a heart attack?"
He returned his attention to Charlotte.
"Jensen was one of my more... forgetful colleagues. My apologies. The door's downstairs," Matthew said, snapping his fingers. The purple mana bands disappeared without a trace, freeing Charlotte.
