Texas secessionists launch petition drive

Think of that! What is they actually manage it?

Supreme Court ruling about gay marriage nullified.

Texas has nuclear weapons in its territory. Would Texan soldiers in the federal army defect?

Can the rest of the south go with it? At least Oklahoma?

Libertarian paradise, or conservative utopia?

I know I would be moving.

We have a lot of work to do before secession becomes viable, but this is a good start.

Enjoy being annexed into Mexico.

So because the Supreme Court did their job this somehow equals a reason for secession.

The petition for a death star had more hope of achieving its goal.

Think of that! What is they actually manage it?

1. Supreme Court ruling about gay marriage nullified.

2. Texas has nuclear weapons in its territory. Would Texan soldiers in the federal army defect?

3. Can the rest of the south go with it? At least Oklahoma?

Libertarian paradise, or conservative utopia?

I know I would be moving.

1. This has nothing to do with the topic. Take you bat out of the dead horse, start eviscerating the new one.

2. Wouldn't that lead to something more catastrophic for them should this fail?

3. Treason, basically.

Though it could break up into five different states if permitted.

Not unilaterally. In theory Congress could allow Texas to leave, if Texas were to ask.

This is also true of every other state. Imagine: five Rhode Islands.

Libertarian paradise, or conservative utopia?

I know I would be moving.

It would raise some pretty hairy questions for Texas.
First, the currency- Will it stay the dollar, like in some small Caribbean islands? Will the US and Texas use the USD?
Second, logistics- New passports will have to be issued, and that would be even more of a mess for foreigners living in Texas with an American green card.

Even though Texas is a pretty rich and populated place, it'd suffer from a secession, especially if we consider that trade might stop with the US at least for some time.
Nuclear weapons would most likely go to Texas, unless they give it up like Ukraine did in the 90s after the fall of the USSR.

I don't know if someone from Texas who also happens to be in the US army would defect.They swore to serve their country after all, right?

This is all an hypothetical sitiation.There's a high chance Texas would never secede, nor that it would even want secession.

If Texas ever manages to secede, which I doubt will happen, you can bet your ass that Austin will be defecting back to the states, shortly after. I'd rather die than be a part of an independent Texan Republic

Apparently it taught Texans to ask nicely instead of just declaring themselves seceded.

Well, if this petition gets enough signatures and the Supreme Court sees it, I'm sure they'll just let the second largest state (by population, area, and GDP) just become its own nation.

Insufficient cause to rebel. Try waiting until our Dear Leader Kanye West makes buying from any company he doesn't own an executable offense, along with criticising him.
The United Colonies of Earth exists:
to bring about the settlement of all planets not yet inhabited by a sapient species within this Galaxy and Universe by the Human Race, or all members of the species Homo sapiens;
to ensure the observation and protection of the rights of all human beings;
to defend humankind from invasion, catastrophe, fraud and violence;
to represent the interests of humankind to the other governments of the Galaxy;
to facilitate the perpetuation of the unity of human civilization and infrastructure between otherwise self-governing colonies;
and to promote technological advancement and scientific discovery for the perpetuation and expansion of the unity and empowerment of all human beings.
