Reason for being here?

This came to mind based on this thread. So, what is the appeal to you of the message board of a nation-building simulator?

Only three general categories of reasons come to my mind right now, so I added those and various combinations thereof. If other reasons come to others' minds, please let me know.

Well I joined the site before this particular forum started, before they had it on Jolt but it wasn't as convenient for me so I barely, if at all, posted. I already liked message boards but this had like the perfect size of an active community, as well as an interesting community. I learned to debate here, which I guess gave me a more combative mentality sometimes rather than that dialogue instinct, all in the name of out assholing some assholes, but it can be fun. I've been exposed to a lot of different political views here, it can be interesting to read. Met some wonderful people here, many left though, but Tsuki is still here and active so it's a good place to talk to her.

Spent almost 40% of my life as a member of Nationstates and a little less as a member of these forums. If you guys have a problem with how I turned out blame NationStates

Obviously I'm only here to wield phenomenal and completely unfettered and unmonitored power over a whole bunch of people on the Internet I don't know to satisfy my depraved lust for conquest and domination because of any number of personal, psychological, physical, and/or sexual failings I have in real life because lemme tell you, nothing gets me off like pushing my Nazi Communist Democratic Republican Atheist Religious Etc Etc New World Order bias on everybody around me!

More seriously, I stick around because I enjoy the cooperative storytelling of a good RP (even though I don't RP nearly as much as I used to,) and because for all the jokes about NSG's debate skills, there's just something about the community that keeps me coming back. I've made some really good friends on here, and I enjoy seeing the different ways people play the game and all the neat stuff that folks come up with.
