DAT IC DOE: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=349627

Da Story

The Great War ended twenty years ago. And in that time society has degraded. Many scavengers, bandits, tribes, and military juntas occupy these wasted flatlands. The soil is poisoned: the bread basket of America is a brown desert now. Occasional scrubs of grass here and there feed the mutated bison and horse populations. Only the occasional oasis, away from the major cities, is a viable solution for agriculture. These pockets of fertility are closely guarded by the factions that occupy them, and carefully maintained. The rest of the people who inhabit these blighted lands are hunters and gatherers, feasting off the corpse of the old world, and upon those who have resources.

Who are you? Are you a bandit clan, looting, murdering, pillaging? Are you a scavenger faction, thinking only as far as your next meal? Are you a tribe, using the horses and bison as the means of your existence, and occasionally going to war for extra resources? Are you a military unit, holding down the fort with what weapons they can? Or are you something different, something else that has sprung from the poisoned land of death?

DA RULES

1: The basics. No flame, no godmod, no silly crap.
2: I am god. If I don't like something, you may make a polite case, but you better change it if I still think it stinks.
3: Your warriors ain't god. I won't determine most engagements, but if you aren't taking casualties like you should, I will use my god powers.
4: Be respectful, have fun.

Gameplay Mechanics

This is a dash more interesting than most RPs, as I will be taking a role as god in it. I will still have a faction, but they will have a special role in the RP. I will be telling you certain resource situations you will encounter, and I will make random events happen. Loot you get from a town will be determined by myself. I will TG you what you will get.

Basic Timeline

I think each IC page will be about month. So nothing crazy in that timescale, and it is recommended you keep negotiations SHORT and succinct so that we don't take up an entire page on idle chit chat. TG the person you are talking to before negotiations to reach a mutual understanding, and carry out what you need in a couple posts. And group stuff up. If multiple people are doing things, make an uber post so that we don't have it all spread out.

Resource Based

Not only will I be determining the loot you get from hitting a location, I will also be keeping track of how long you have until you run out of certain things. There will be several types of resources:

Food: Obviously needed. You can only get continuous amounts from farming. Otherwise, you gotta hunt and gather and scavenge. You may eat people too, but that comes with... issues. Need continuous water source to keep farming. May add in irrigation systems and use Brahmin or mechanized plows to help you increase yields. You will need time to develop these, and resources themselves. Skilled farmers can help you here.

Water: Just like food, you gots to have it. A lot of water means you can farm and raise animals. Rivers, wells, water towers, etc. Beware: some will be irradiated, some won't. You need water purifiers to deal with that, and those will be amongst the rarest loot in the game.

Meds: Can only be scavenged. You can make basic healing powder if you have survivalist knowledge in your skillset, but that can only cover so much. Meds increase your combat effectiveness, and make can reverse the complications arising from radiation. Also useful if a sickness is going around the wasteland, like, you know, smallpox.

Animals: Do you have horses? Brahmin? they can be used as pack animals, meat, transporation, etc. However, you have a limited number, and must catch more. In times of starvation you may have to kill them to feed your people, but then you lose their usefulness later. Skilled herders can help you breed animals, and increase their effectiveness.

Ammo: Needed to kill people. Ammo can be scavenged primarily, but if you have gunsmiths and machinists in your faction, you can possibly make some utilizing resources in game. Engage in a lot of combat, and you will run low on ammo.

Cars: Yes, you can have cars. Not many though. They will burn up your ammo resources, as they run on energy cells. Having mechanics can help you repair them.

Equipment: How good is your stuff? These don't really degrade, but you won't be starting off with very good shit unless you are military remnants, so you need to find better stuff. Includes armor, guns, etc. You can craft metal, leather armor, and bows and arrows and improvised weapons, but the good stuff is scavenged.

Luxury Resources: Movie Theater? Radio Station? Brothel? Alcohol? Drugs? All these can help you trade with others, and keep your population under control and happy. Useful for any occasion.

Skills

Your populace has to have certain skills to survive. You may pick one or two to begin with, like they are good farmers and traders. You may then find some books on medicine, and get a doctor trained. I will not be overly picky, but don't go around repairing cars with a population of herders and farmers.

Random Events

I will be throwing random shit at you. Radscorpion attack, plague, food spoilage, old bomb goes off, tornado, all sortsa stuff.

My Faction

My faction is going to be Bartertown, in the middle of the play area. It will serve as a place to find anything and everything, for a price, and as a neutral zone for diplomacy. The militia and defenses at Bartertown are powerful, and any attempt at its destruction will have to be very well planned and with the might of a roaring river. But... if you can take it.... expect immense loot.

The App

Name:
Leader(s):
Skills:
Resources: (Include a good description of those listed above)
Type of Settlement: (Walled town, camp, etc.)
Starting Location: (Keep it near Kansas City)
Starting Population: (no more than 500)
Organizational Structure:
Bio: (At least two paragraphs, preferably more)
Goals: (Mostly survival, but you can have others)

MY APP:

NOTE: My faction is purposely better resourced than anyone else. You need to have less than what Bartertown has.

Name: Bartertown
Leader(s): Baroness Sylvia (Owner of Mercenary Company defending Bartertown and ruling it), Sal Marlo (Man in charge of energy production)
Skills: Soldiers, Energy Production, Trading, Brewing, Radio Operation, Mechanics.
Resources: (Include a good description of those listed above) Food is imported, but there is plenty to trade for it. Have a small water well, and a water purifier. Meds supply is immense, except for anti radiation drugs, which are ALWAYS in demand due to proximity to Kansas City. If you bring some to trade, you can get a lot of good stuff for it. Not many animals, as there is little space. Ammunition is currently in a state of shortage after a raider strike. Cars are many, and there is a chop shop. Equipment is fairly advanced, with most guards in combat armor, and civilians in leather or metal. Laser rifles, assault rifles, grenades, and even some combat robots fill the ranks. Several cars are repurposed as combat vehicles. There are large amounts of home brewed beer from the various taverns, and some harder stuff too. Solar panels are installed on many of the houses thanks to Sal Malone. There is a radio station, run by the Baroness's company, and a local movie theater, which plays old holotapes.
Type of Settlement: Walled city. Area around it is in ruins. Overpopulated in many ways, there are apartment buildings, slums, and a market. The market is in the middle of the city, and over it is Baroness's tower, where she watches over her domain.
Starting Location: Liberty, Northeast of Kansas City
Starting Population: (no more than 500) 1030
Organizational Structure: De jure: None. De Facto: The Baroness solves all disputes, and metes out justice as she sees fit. In some ways, Sal Malone does as well, but he does not have as much power as some.
Bio: (At least a paragraphs, preferably more) Bartertown was once merely a refugee camp of wasted and wretched individuals. Then Sal Malone came along. He was an expert of engineering, and set up a reliable power system around 2085. Utilizing solar cells from a local warehouse, they were able to get Bartertown up and running as a center of trade. However, bandit clans were attracted, and this led to fear and desolation once more, as the poorly armed and desperate traders attempted to fight the constant raids.

Then the Baroness arrived. A former military Captain, she led her forces on a mission to destroy the raiders. Soon, she secured Bartertown. Although she was the town's saving grace, some bad feelings grew when she attempted to reign over them as a sort of Queen. Although that was put to rest by a militia led by Sal Malone, who showed up at her newly constructed tower and told her what they thought of her reign. She decided the best thing to do was to instead contract herself and her troops out, and come to an agreement with the local populace. A balance of power, quite strenuous, arose, with Sal leading certain political interests and the Baroness her own. Tensions flare up every now and then, but outside threats keep them from killing each other.

In 2095, a wall around the town was completed, and in 2096 a large attack by the Smegma Crazies was repelled, although with losses and a depletion of ammo reserves.
Goals: (Mostly survival, but you can have others) Each side wants to dominate Bartertown politics, although they are united in defense of the town, and in the call for profit.

BTW: The Enclave would primarily be operating under wraps in this. They didn't reveal themselves until Fallout 2. This is right after the apocalypse, so they would not be anywhere near. Maybe a military remnant? Could have same dogmatic 'Murica ideals.

The OP states that my town will have a special role:

Basically, it is the ultimate place to go for buying and selling things, in addition to a sort of "Ultimate Final Boss." If you and your faction become powerful enough to take Bartertown, you are set. All that wealth, now yours. You RULE THE GREAT PLAINS! MUWHAHAHAHAH!

Could I be the Brotherhood of Steel?

See, this is so early, the Brotherhood are still entirely limited to their original base on the West Coast.

My reasoning in this RP was to make something so early on that you feel the full effect of how devastating the Nukes were.

That is why there are no large factions. Every man for himself really. There is very little industry, mostly scavengers and bandits, with the occasional stable community. Most of the people in your faction will still REMEMBER what the world was before the war.

Name:Vault 235. Renamed Underground Haven
Leader(s): OverSeer Mitchell
Skills: Scavenging and Vault Tech
Resources: (Include a good description of those listed above) A working Water Purifier with small amount of water. Food is in a surplus due to extreme rationing. Ammunition amount is at a average. They have a broke G.E.C.K which they hope to eventually repair. They have no cars or animals, due to the small space. They have a working bar/ drug front, that sells all sorts of beers and an assortment of drugs.
Type of Settlement: (Walled town, camp, etc.) Not so abandoned abandoned Vault. It is a Vault in which the previous residents are gone and more have moved in. Lowly populated, due to fear of food and water shortages. The People are in constant fear of Raiders and are trying to find ways to defend themselves. With no want to leave the vault, they improved their ability to scavenge and send 'trained' scavengers to gather more supplies.
Starting Location: (Keep it near Kansas City) Junction City
Starting Population: (no more than 500):50
Organizational Structure: They have adopted the way of an overseer, who sees and runs everything through the Current working Vault-Tec hardware and 'spies' in a way that report to him the happenings.
Bio: Vault 235 was built to fail. It was barely stocked with food and water, the OverSeer was diagnosed with Multiple Personality Disorder, and A lack of tools made it a short lived vault. But, as the old residents left, new residents came, and it was now built to succeed! They had brought any remaining supplies with them from their last encampment, and were delighted to see a water purifier, and a G.E.C.K! They put all they could find inside the Vault Storage Chamber, and elected Mitchel Davis as their Overseer. After spending a long period of time getting accustomed to the Vault, they eventually figured out how to work and repair the vault-tec!
They had one question though, What if? What if raiders attacked, or supermutants! What if we ran out of food? Due to the extreme paranoia, they developed new ways of finding supplies, and while they are not trained soldiers, they have learned to defend themselves. They are in constant fear of death, and as such only the Scavenging Groups ever get to see the outside world. The OverSeer is becoming more doubtful each day of his grip on his people, and such only hopes that the drugs and alcohol will keep them happy.
Goals: (Mostly survival, but you can have others) Their Priority is to survive, with a secondary objective to repair the G.E.C.K

Like it, (particularly how you explained that it was badly stocked, which explains why it opened early) but two things:
1) Jet is not made until Fallout 2, by a boy in New Reno.

2) No other vaults would be open by now. Your vault makes sense due to bad supplies, but everyone else is still bunkered down.

They have a working bar/ drug front, that sells all sorts of beers and things like Jet.
Due to some of the residents being survivors from other Vaults, they eventually figured out how to work and repair the vault-tec!

Thanks Ill edit it right away!

Could you provide a map? I'd like to pick a location that is a military base.

Google Earth is what I am using, lol. You can make up a small military base, since some things may have changed from present day. Just pick a random location. Lets say.... West of X town.
