Council of OP's:
Supreme OP - Waztaskio
Assistant OP -
It is January of 1890, and you are in charge of guiding your nation through the turmoil of world affairs. With many small and major wars such as the Franco-Prussian War, Third Carlist War, Russo-Turkish War etc having happened, the world is in quite a different state. New movements and ideologies are gaining support such as Karl Marx's Communism in Russia and a few other European states, while nations such as Japan have been modernizing to begin their ambitions to build new empires in the modern world. Will you be able to navigate your nation or will your nation be just a footnote in the rise of the coming revolutions and invasions?
The point of divergence for this to avoid changing history dramatically is the year 1880. This leaves ten years for a new movement or idea to gain support or even power, allow different decisions after the major wars, etc. I believe with this date you can change quite a lot, while still leaving some major countries in power. I will post some of the countries that have to still have their territorial claims in the roaster below, but any country not listed means you are free to make new territorial claims and maybe even have some additional territory before the RP starts. If you play a country on the list, it simply means you may not have anymore territory then what they had in that year, but the internal order of the country can be radically different then what it historically was.

1. Obey NationStates forum rules
2. Obey the OP and those appointed as per their role
3. Make sure you are not metagaming, godmodding, numberspamming, or generally RPing in bad form
4. Have a couple of paragraphs a post and good grammar & spelling
5. Exercise common sense generously
6. Be active every couple of days at least
7. In this RP, I will be generally directing the timescale, although you are welcome to help out with that in the game. Because of the nature of the way RPs like this work, a single day can elapse over countless posts, or a single post can advance the timeline by a month. All that is asked is that no-one advance the timeline unreasonably. And be aware of the limitations that exist in communication technologies at this time. If you are in a conference with another nation, you will state in the IC that your diplomats are meeting and message each other privately then come back to the IC in full agreement to keep the IC moving along. Be advised if the timeline advances week while you are meeting, then you can just RP that as the negotiations took weeks to keep this moving.
8. Historical Accuracy. What does this mean? Obviously, it doesn't mean that we're going to be following history's course exactly, or at all. That would ruin the point of this RP! I encourage players to seek different alliances, find new technologies, and make different decisions that their nations did in 1880(Since this is our POD). However, this does NOT give you the right to futz with everything all the time always. What do I mean? Well, you can't instantly change your country's goals, for one. Killing off certain figures and promoting new ones for convenience is frowned upon.
9. Any conflict that is started must be waged reasonably and realistically. This is 1890, people! Troops can't move more than twenty miles in a day on land, unless they are transported by train, and there are some very obvious limitations that train travel poses. Ship travel is very limited too, with weeks being needed to transport soldiers and supplies across the world. Troop mobilization takes time as well, at the very least two weeks for the most advanced nations. Furthermore, troops are constantly hampered by the technological limitations of the day.
10. Understanding the limitations of your nation's technology is important. Anyone whose nation uses the Dreyse Rifle, for example, should know that the rifle was unreliable, inaccurate, had terrible range, and released a choking gas whenever the bolt was opened after firing. The American player, as another example whose main artillery is the 3-inch muzzle-loader, will almost always be at a disadvantage when paired up against European powers. Make sure you research your nation's technology well, and make sure that you play according to that technology. if you wish to start a new tech program a year or so before it was really started, you can do that, as long as you realistically display the negative effects that accompany staring any program earlier than it should start. Likewise, you can delay a program if you wish to do so for whatever reasons. Just be realistic about it.
11. Just know how to lose..simple as that.
If you want to reserve land, you must use the following reservation. Reservations will last for 12 hours though you can appeal to the OP to make it last fora maximum of 24 hours. These reservations are meant to give you time to make your application or keep your area safe while AFK. These are not meant to be used to keep other waiting. You will not be able to have a second reservation (for the same area) unless you provide significant reason why.
