Shrouded - A Space Adventure

C'Herod, the home-world of the K'vatan.

The KRF Galathea. A behemoth to be praised and aggrandized, not feared. This massive craft, owned and manufactured by the people of Skandinavia, had served in 2 major expeditions within the galaxy. Today is the 67th day of it's 3rd expedition. Men and women from many different places of the galaxy had gathered on one ship. Each individual had his or her own task, and never tired. There was little room for error on a major operation such as this. The supplies provided on the ship were more than enough, but those who handled the stuff still needed to be careful. Some mistakes could bear unbelievable consequences.

Day 67, and things have grown a bit stale for the representatives, crew, and other members on the KRF Galathea. For days now, although moving quite quickly, they have encountered nothing of interest. However, soon, they will face a great challenge as they push onwards through the sea of stars outside the territory they are more familiar with. Shrouded, but soon to be illuminated to the eyes of the rest of this world.

You, the players to be, may play whoever you want. A representative of your nation? A well known astrologer? Even a zoologist or antiquary? Perhaps a stow-away?.. Whatever. Just keep in mind, you must be on the ship (KRF Galathea) only. Also remember to act with politeness and understanding at all times. You must be a member of the Interstellar Union. And lastly.. Have fun!

Grand Admiral Anders Pedersen entered the bridge with his 2nd in command Captain Line Kvist. He looked at the pilot Svend Gregersen. ''How does the course look luitenant?'' The response was quick ''It looks good Admiral, it seems stable enough so that we wont encounter any rouge object for a couple of days. There are minor outbursts of gamma rays, but i believe its coming from the nearby star.''

''Good'' Anders responded. He looked out through the window and noticed what seemed like shooting starts. He didnt believe his own eyes, this was a vacuum, how could any object be burning. ''Svend, do you see this too?'' The pilot looked up pale as a sheet ''I do sir, and thats not the only thing. My instruments are going haywire, its as if we are countless places at once. Wait! I think i see a pattern. This does not look good, sir i think we are in the gravitational field of a...'' ''Wormhole'' the Admiral added.

''All engines full throttle! We have to get out!'' The huge rockets started up, but to no avail. Space was bending around them. Bmllions of parsec travelled in milliseconds. Suddenly boom, and all went black. ''Turn on emergency generators'' Slowly but steady power came back, revealing a unfamiliar location. ''Anyone recognise any constalations?'' No one answered, people just stared, in awe and fear, until Svend spoke up ''Sir our weapons systems and thrusters are down, and... im afraid my scannings has revealed.. we are in an unexplored part of the galaxy. No known civillised life exists here. Im afraid that we are stranded in space...

With Admiral Kulla having defeated the Hybrids, established the Republic, and been elected its first Executive, Executive Kulla dispatches Admiral Aatami, of no relation to the deceased Emperor. Aatami stands watch on the bridge of his cruiser. "Admiral," says a lieutenant at the radar controls. "What is it?" "Admiral, a wormhole has appeared off the port bow. We have been attempting to corretc our course, but nothing has worked. We are being pulled in!" Klaxons begun wailing as the ship lurches hard a port. "Captain!" "I'm on it, Admiral! All hands, all hands, this is Captain Mutti. We are falling into a wormhole, we do not know where we will be sent. Brace for impact!" The star field nauseatingly whirls as they reappear in an unknown, lifeless, incredibly dark region of the galaxy.

Shortly after being thrust out of the wormhole, the KRF Galathea was left defenseless. The crew tried its hardest to bring systems back up, but it was difficult. About an hour later, a group of strange craft arrived at the scene. They seem to have come from a dot in the distance. One that was surprisingly green. Unknown to the crew, they had been approached by K'vatan Fighters, coming from the garden-type planet of C'Herod. Soon, there were more fighters, then a much larger disc shaped craft. It was almost as long as the Galathea, and carried numerous visible weapons. This large ship approached and stopped several meters away from the front of the Galathea.

One of the fighters hovered near the bridge. The capsule in the middle of the fighter opened up, and a strange being with four long tentacles floated out. It glowed dull blue, and the surface of the Galathea seemed to react strangely to it. Upon closer observation, one could see that the creature's curved "head" was transparent. The rest of its body seemed to be a massive composition of concentrated energy. This being was made purely of energy. What kind, the crew was yet to know.

''Arms at the ready'' Anders shouted as he drew his pistol. He did not take aim, but he expected the show of arms to let this unknown creature know that they were willing to defend themselves.

Ara Macao was an Ornitarian who was born on his home world Ornithar, but was raised in the Ecendral System, a binary system which contained a carbon-based life world mainly filled with temperate vegetation.

Macao was around to many parts of the galaxy, an avid traveler. He was primarily an astrobiologist, put also a physicist, astronomer, and philosopher. His main function was as head of the the Exaequation Alliance-Skandinavian relations on board the ship, but also took on the role as the chief science officer.

Ara Macao looked at the life form floating around. "Amazing." He stood closer to the viewscreen to further examine it in his awe. "scanners are having a difficult time penetrating their systems, but the lifeform could possibly be composed of radiant energy."

Any reccommendations for communicating with it? We dont even know if it communicates via sound

"We could use modulated EM waves, that is if it is composed of radiant energy. Or we could perhaps send information directly to its ship, giving it the most basic of information for ease of communication. Such as atomic structure of elements or math equations."

"No problem." He pressed several buttons, which let out the various ways of communication.

The K'vatan was not intimidated. It was aware that it could destroy electronics easily, after all. The creature drifted closer to the bridge's front window, and the people inside began to hear a thrumming sound emanating from it. Giving no time to react, the K'vatan reached towards the reinforced glass with one of its tendrils. When the tip of the tendril connected with the glass, it seemed to warp. The K'vatan pushed forward, and phased through the glass as though it were a bubble. As Macao began transmitting, the creature seemed to tilt its entire body slightly to the left in curiosity. The eyes of the spacecraft surrounding the Galathea turned bright blue.

"Shtûra?.." said the creature floating amongst the crew in a robotic and somewhat musical voice. It had no mouth, but seemed to communicate by changing the vibrating sounds coming from its core, or what other beings would call a heart.

Suddenly, a chuckling sound came from the creature. Its eyes narrowed as it expressed its joy of finding new strange beings visiting its home galaxy. Even still, it made sure not to touch anyone, as they would be vaporized on contact. The K'vatan spun around slowly, observing the other life-forms around it.

"Ta Shtûra?" it said in a questioning tone. This single creature, along with all its kin around the Galathea, received the sounds transmitted by Ara, but did not understand. They had their own language, and communicated in no other way. Though the crew didn't understand, the K'vatan had been asking the origin of the ship and its crew. Just then, another bunch of spacecraft arrived. Their fighters were meant to look good and probably fight good as well. At the moment, they seemed to be of no threat either, having identified that the Galathea was not functioning properly, thanks to the information relayed to them by the K'vatan. The Kylanthan Tahnir had arrived. The Peacekeepers of this territory.

The admiral put down his gun and slowly approached the windows of the bridge.

Is it such a good idea to be showing the location of earth to a group of aliens no one has ever heard of? Ara thought to himself. And I'm not a human. God no, I can't stand mammals. They're so smelly. I'm an Ornitharian.

OOC: Ach, wait. >.< No one could have understood the K'vatan's language. It's just squeaking and electronic cracking sounds to someone who hasn't got a translator from the Tahnir. I was expecting for you guys to react to the creature phasing through the glass and floating around the bridge, observing. Also, to the new group of spacecraft that just turned up.

OOC How do you want us to react? We're trying to peacefully communicate with it and unless it acts hostile towards us I see no reason in trying to kill it. We never said that we successfully communicated with either.

Also can someone please post something. The lack of participation in this rp is pitiful.

Here. But they could have not known that the K'vatan was asking for their origin.

Never mind. I'll post anyway, find a way around it.

"Ahh?.." the K'vatan slowly turns toward the map, then to the rest of the crew. It successfully imitated the sound that Pedersen made. "Hu... Man..." With a whir of excitement, it hovered up towards the map and laid its hands upon the interface. Fortunately it caused no damage. But it seemed to be tampering with the machine, as windows opened up all over the ships's screens, revealing what this creature was trying to do. Curious to find out who their visitors were, the K'vatan were accessing the Galathea's database and recording all that they could, piecing together what little information was there.

Once finished, a sigh escaped from the K'vatan. It turned towards the Admiral and spoke in fluent English, much to the surprise of all who were present. Despite this, its voice had not changed. "Greetings, crew." it said, seemingly excited by this new set of sounds it had discovered. The K'vatan had no vocal chords, but could imitate almost any sound. "You.." it pointed with one tendril. "Are not all human. Diverse. Very diverse. Excellent." The creature clapped its front tendrils in delight.

"You.. Meet our leadership? Yes? Very excited, we are..."

The Admiral looked at the creature with fear "Did that thing just access our entire database?" He said to his technician. He had switched to Danish as he hoped the creature had not focused on all languages. They were lucky communications with Earth could not be established otherwise that "Thing" could have accesed all data in the empire!

He switched back to english "How can we be asured our safety? Our thrusters and weapons are down. We are defenceless. Should you suddenly turn angry we would be annihalated. We need you word that we will be let home"

"We. Are. Aware." the K'vatan said, hovering backwards. It seemed to be watching Pedersen intently, having sensed that this man was of authority. At some point, the creature stopped. "Very interesting your planet is. A visit would be delightful."

"Your ship has been disabled for reasons unknown. Leadership will address this issue very soon." the K'vatan continued. "Your technology we are very unfamiliar with. But we will help you, certainly. We will help you get home, lost people. And perhaps we will see what there is to see there as well. It would be quite the adventure."

Then the creature spun with such grace towards the bridge's front windows. It gave a signal towards the massive ship directly facing the larger Galathea, and rumbled softly as it moved back. The smaller conical fighters of the Kylanthans dispersed, and left the matter to the K'vatan. And suddenly there was a powerful jolt that sent some of the crew sprawling. Another trill of laughter came from the male K'vatan who still remained on the bridge. It was at ease as the ship continued to move.

"For your craft to remain in this area is unsafe. There are pirates to worry about, and large projectiles. To be hit by one would not be pleasant. No, no." the creature turned its body left and right, as a person who shake his head. It seemed the alien organism had learned about common expressions as well. "I myself can assure you that you are safe in our hands. Welcome to Taiothle, crew... But please, do not touch me, or any of my kind. You may be killed. As I can identify, you are all organic creatures... I am built of energy. One that I have not seen in your database. To be in contact with my kind, known as the K'vatan, will result in instant death, or in the very least, serious injury."

As the Galathea was towed through space by several slightly smaller craft, the K'vatan who was hovering around in the bridge had become satisfied and moved slowly with its intention being the glass that led outside. It came into contact with the barrier once again, but was easily allowed through. It floated out into space and disappeared. A short while later, its ship zoomed past the bridge towards the green planet in the distance. The Galathea was disabled indeed, and soon it would be settled on the planet known as C'herod for repairs. For the Taiothleans, it would take a while, considering that their equipment was different from those used on the Skandinavian ship. But in order to get anything done, they'd have to try..
