The huge craft hovered just above humanity’s last world. Earth. The ship was angled downwards, and those inside Evacuation Center Seven saw the beam of light punch down through the clouds, through the atmosphere, ripping a segment of night into existence as the day was burned away. The beam punched through humanity’s last great city, New York. It went through the Earth’s crust, through the mantle, and finally, through the core, until it reached the other end. With the pressurized iron and nickel released, the Earth shattered. It was then that the last seed ship was launched. The huge ferro-plastic doors drilled into the Earth were opened, and out came the largest human starship ever constructed. Dirt, stone and metal flew off the huge ship as it flew out of the crust, like phoenix giving new life in its dying breath.
For those who didn’t manage to make it into the seventh evacuation center watched as humanity’s single hope punched through the hull of the ship that had just killed the Unified Human Confederation’s jewel, the origin of the once great species, Earth. The colossal grey ship fired the huge spinal cannon into the alien craft, piercing its hull, creating an escape from the shattered planet below. The alien craft stumbled and creaked as the smaller ship flew through the hole, firing off missiles and point defense into the interior of the alien dreadnought. It punched out of the other side, and in a huge amount of blue fire, was sent to the moon, where the crew began preparations for the three thousand year journey to the next home of humanity. Every being on Earth watched in awe as the ship emblazoned with the title ‘Argo II’ in dull white letters flew into the sky as the poor souls left on Earth accepted their fate.
That was three hundred and seventy-two years ago.
The Argo II has been traveling for that entire time, the huge ion drives unwaveringly providing a faint blue glow as the ship flies ever onwards in interstellar space. You are a member of the fourth generation to be born on the ship. The third captain has been in command for thirty one years.
Following a catastrophic battle with massive numbers of the alien menace, known as Urelaks, the Argo II’s defense fleet was devastated. Out of the more than eight hundred fighters that went into the battle, only ninety three emerged as survivors. Some of those remnants were no longer combat effective. In the wake of this destruction, the ship’s premier military minds created a regime to train and deploy elite, specialized, fighters. This regime was dubbed the Arbalest Program. To which you have just been recruited.
Welcome to the Arbalest Program, Soldier. We sincerely hope you enjoy your stay.

Hello, and welcome, to the Arlabest Program. I am sure by now you realize that you have been recruited into the new age of the Argo II’s military. We, at Arbalest, are in the process of engineering the perfect fighting machines. This machine is the Type V Neural Connection Mech, or T5 for short. You, as a recruited pilot, will pilot the mech through both manual control and by commanding it with your thoughts. Yes, you read that correctly. The Type V can be maneuvered simply by thinking. Quite amazing what we have accomplished here, isn’t it?
Regardless, before you can pilot one of these mechs against the Urelak menace, you must attend - and graduate - Arbalest Academy. Here, you will be put through a series of rigorous classes, as well as several hours of hyper-realistic battle simulation per day. These courses will prepare you both mentally and physically for the extreme stress of battle against the Urelaks. We have had several cadets break down in the initial testing phases. I highly encourage you do not follow their footsteps. If you apply yourself, and study hard, you will pass the program. If you exceed in the program, however, leadership positions await you upon graduation. Let that be your motivator to out-compete your colleagues.
You, as the second official wave of cadets, will be making up Attack Wing Two. Please file through the door on your right. You will be meeting your fellow squadmates soon. Good luck, Cadet. You’ll need it.
